EPISODE 11
SONIA’S POV CONTINUES
At the dining Joshua made an announcement to all his staff, he told them about a contract that they have been pursuing for a year has finally being awarded to them, they all hit their gla-sses and congratulate themselves for a job well done.
Since mercy already occu-py the last chair on the dinning I and held our food in hand and eat standing beside them too, so as not to miss out on the gist.
finally dinner section was over, they all went to the living room where they share a few gla-sses of alcohol.
I was so tired from the day’s stress that I couldn’t wait for them to leave before I went inside to sleep.
JACK’S POV
I saw the way Sonia was just dozing off on the couch where she sat down, I fear she might fall off from the chair so I went to seat beside her, as she was about falling I grabbed her quickly and allowed her to rest her head on my shoulder.
I didn’t look at anyone’s face so they wouldn’t start reading meaning to the harmless gesture I showed her.
After a few minutes sleep, she je-rk up and looked at me
SONIA
I’m sorry
(she whispered)
JACK
you don’t have to be … go inside and sleep….. I will clear off this.
SONIA
No, no, it’s fine…. I will just wait.
JACK
go inside and sleep, I said I will help you clear it up…. go get some rest.
She hesitated for a while before she got up and went inside…. she turn to look if her friend was coming with her, but obviously she wasn’t because she was having a blast of her life.
Around 10pm, they all started to leave one by one, all claiming they need to wake up sane for the next day’s job.
Well, it was a value excuse so Joshua didn’t try to stop them….. but Amanda stayed back, it wasn’t the first time she has slept in the house after all.
soon the whole house was empty, I started to clear the dish while Joshua got up and went to his room.
Mercy saw that Joshua had left, she got up too to leave, but why would I let her own when she enjoyed the most at the party?
JACK
going somewhere?
MERCY
I’m feeling sleepy, I want to go and sleep.
JACK
why? who are you expecting to clean all this?
MERCY
it’s Sonia’s job,she will do it in the morning.
JACK
(Her statement angered me)
if cleaning and doing all the tidying is Sonia’s job, what are you doing here?
MERCY
I … I came to know where my friend is staying.
JACK
And you are using how many days to know here?
MERCY
what’s with all this interrogation, this house doesn’t even belong to you..
JACK
Yeah, it doesn’t belong to me but I’m the head of staff and whatever I say is law too.
MERCY
Is law? like you can even tell your boss to leave this house and he will?
JACK
let me show you what I mean….. first thing tomorrow morning, make sure you eat enough food and drink white tea to clear your hangover then go back to your house…. Sonia is the only employee we recognize…. we don’t know you.
MERCY
(She scoff)
is that what Sonia asked you to tell me? if she wanted me to leave so badly she could have just said so herself instead of sending you to me…. wait why will she even send you to send her own friend out? do you like her? are you guys dating?
I couldn’t believe my ears, was it because I asked her to leave that’s shy she quickly came to a conclusion that I’m dating her friend?
I didn’t give her an answer to that silly questions of hers…. Amanda held our little conversation so she came closer.
AMANDA
don’t worry, I will do the dishes
JACK
you shouldn’t border, I’m sure mercy wouldn’t like us to paint her as a bad person, would you?
mercy was about saying something when she saw Joshua descending the stairs, she immediately agreed to wash the plates… .. she headed for the kitchen, Amanda chuckled and rushed to meet Joshua.
I left them in the living room and went into the kitchen to a-ssist mercy.
AMANDA’S POV
I have being working for Joshua for two years now, and his someone that you can’t help but fall for… my two years of working with him, I haven’t seen him or heard him talk about any woman before, the only woman he has ever talked about was his mother….. who died years ago.
Seeing that he doesn’t have a woman in his life, I decided to be the woman that fills in that space.
I have done everything for him to see how much I love him, but he doesn’t see it… and I’m too scared to open up to him about my feelings, what if he rejects me?
I don’t care how long it takes, but I’m going to stay beside him until the day he finally realize that I am the woman for him.
my feelings for him are so obvious that all his staffs knows it, but how come he doesn’t see it?
Well, it doesn’t matter, what matters is his very nice to me and treats me like a princess instead if a staff.
After dinner he went into his room, I felt sad, thinking he had gone inside to sleep but my joy came back to life when I saw him descending the stairs again.
AMANDA
I thought you went inside to sleep
JOSHUA
you are still here?
AMANDA
Yeah, I’m sleeping here tonight, I’m good drunk to drive.
JOSHUA
You shouldn’t drive when you are drunk, my new worker has occu-py the room you usually use…. but the other rooms are best too, you can use anyone.
AMANDA
awwwn, and I really liked that room, because it’s cozy and it’s always warm.
Well the truth is I like the room because it was closer to his, I feel like we are in the same room anytime I sleep in that room…. why did that girl have to pick that room?
JOSHUA
you can just reduce the AC if the cold is too much…. I forgot my phone downstairs so I came to take it….goodnight.
He said and left after taking his phone.
I sat down for a while, I wasn’t happy that I will be spending a night in s room that is far from his.
JOSHUA’S POV
everything went well tonight at the dinner party, my staffs did enjoy themselves and I was glad they did…. I overheard jack talking to mercy, I was already on my way going to my room when I suddenly remembered my phone so I turn back to get it immediately when I heard them talking.
I’m not the type that easily hate people, you know mum taught me better than that…. but this mercy of a girl? I didn’t like her at all, I can’t say I hate her though, hate would be a strong word to use…. like she actually thinks her friend sent jack to send her away? what kind of friendship is that? that you have to suspect your friend or even think so evil of her… it’s non of my business who Sonia makes friends with, but I don’t want her bringing toxic people like this into my home.

EPISODE 12
MERCY’S POV
How dare Sonia plan with her stupid boyfriend to send me out? how can she be this ungrateful, someone we took in, feed and gave her a roof over her head…. how dare she treat me like this?
after that st*pid guy, I don’t know his name and don’t care to know, after we finished washing all the dishes I went inside only to see her sleeping peacefully, I was so angry, I felt like strangling her but I held myself.
I angrily went to the bathroom to bathe before I came back to sleep too.
The next morning before any of them will wake up, I packed all the things and left the house….. it’s not like I was happy leaving, but it was better to leave on my own accord then them throwing me out like a trash.
Mum was still sleeping when I entered the house, I didn’t border to go to her room, I just went into my room to sleep.
Around 10am I woke up and came to the living room, that was when she noticed that I even came back.
MRS GLORIA
when did you enter the house?
MERCY
I came in early this morning
MRS GLORIA
what happened? you look sad
MERCY
it’s nothing, I’m fine…. where is my father?
MRS GLORIA
your dad traveled to the village yesterday, baby what’s wrong? you don’t look your normal self.
MERCY
(I signed)
mum, you know this life eeh, you can’t trust anyone you know that right?
MRS GLORIA
even God said “the heart of a man is desperately wicked who can know it” but what happened? who has shown you their wickedness.
MERCY
who else if not Sonia, mum you won’t believe Sonia landed a job with a very rich man… not just rich, handsome, and single…. since she isn’t interested in making use of the opportunity I decided to help her… but this girl planned for me to be sent out.
MRS GLORIA
I don’t un-derstand, can you make it clear to me?
MERCY
what’s there that you don’t un-derstand mum, what I’m trying to say is, Sonia is not a good person, I mean after all we have done for her.
MRS GLORIA
Did you say the man is very rich?
MERCY
mum, his not only rich, the richness is smelling all over him…. last night he had a get together with his staffs, guess what he was celebrating.
MRS GLORIA
what? please tell me.
MERCY
they were celebrating the contract he won, worth millions of dollars….. that man is rich.
MRS GLORIA
But you weren’t employed there, how then did you think they would have allowed you to stay there?
MERCY
is that what you are telling me? instead of you looking for a way for me to go back into that house, you are telling me this.
MRS GLORIA
is not lIke I don’t want to help you, or even want you to marry a rich man…. is just that your first approach was wrong, you told you dad and I that you were going with Sonia to know where she has gotten a Job….. but you stayed there for three days, I called your number but it wasn’t available… staying there has shown them the kind of person you are…. sometimes we need to pretend so we can get what we want.
MERCY
so, what do you think I should do now mum?
MRS GLORIA
you will get yourself ready and go back to school, at the end of this year’s semester, I’m sure I would have think of something that you can do.
MERCY
mum If I end up with someone like Joshua, I wouldn’t he needing my certificate, there won’t be any need going to school…. let’s just forget about school and focus on him.
MRS GLORIA
don’t be silly, you just have one year to finish your education, you want to waste all those years of your life? even our resources? if you don’t go back to school and round up, I won’t be helping you get that young man.
MERCY
mum!!!!!
MRS GLORIA
Shut your mouth, that’s why you went there without a plan and they sent you out….. you were supposed to go there with a plan B even plan C in case the first two failed…. if you want to stand out then finish your education… what’s the point of looking down on Sonia when you are an un-dergraduate?
MERCY
mum, so what you are saying is that you can’t help me for now?
MRS GLORIA
I want the best for you, that is why I got day and night just to make sure you go to the university, finishing your school is what will make me feel fulfill, even if you don’t want to use your certificate, because you ended up with a rich man, at least you are a graduate.
MERCY
what if Sonia won his heart before then? or another woman ?
MRS GLORIA
I’m sure with all the money you said the man has, he would not want to end up with someone like her.
MERCY
you never can tell mum, aside his money, I like him too…. mum this guy is too handsome, his like how Bible describe Lucifer…. God’s own favorite Angel.
MRS GLORIA
that is why you need to go to school and prove to him that you are worth his love and money.
MERCY
you are right mum, you know what’s good for me, so I’m going to do as you have said.
MRS GLORIA
That’s my beautiful daughter, just have some patience and round up your study.
MERCY
I will mum…. thanks
I got up and went to seat on the couch she sat and gave her a warm hug.
SONIA’S POV
I was surprised when I woke up and didn’t see mercy, she didn’t tell me she was leaving, was something wrong at home that she had to rush off quickly without telling me? was her parents okay? or was it a sudden test or examination?
my head was just filled with so many things, I didn’t know which one was the reason why she had to go without telling me.
I set to work immediately and started to clean the house, the dishes was already washed which I was guessing jack helped me to do it…since he was the one that promise to help me the previous day.
I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn’t even realize I was carrying a long face untill jack told me
JACK
what’s with the long face Sonia, I noticed you have been carrying this face since morning.
SONIA
Huh? I’m carrying a long face? how? when?
JACK
(He smiled)
you are sad right? what happened?
SONIA
I didn’t realize I was looking moody….
JACK
you are angry that your friend is gone isn’t it?
SONIA
more like I’m surprise, why will I be angry that she’s gone? I know she staying here was out of the line but because of the help she and her family have rendered to me is why I kept a blind eye.
JACK
because they helped you that was why you risked losing your job? what if JJ had sent the two of you away?
SONIA
then I would left happily because at least I will still have a place to return to.
He stare at me for a while, shook his head and turn to go…. he turn back to look at me and said ” take off that face, it doesn’t suit you”
