A big silence suddenly ensued between the both of them, Melanie stared into his eyes which he did not fail to return.
Was he asking her to be his indirectly? That was the thought running in her mind.
“What kind of bet is that?” She chuckled nervously.
“It’s all in your favor,” she bit her li-ps and tried to move out of his hold.
Axel stopped her by tightening his arms around her, her body almost crashing into his.
Melanie released a soft gasp, her hand going to his chest reflexively.
“You haven’t answered me…” Axel muttered, staring down at her li-ps.
His eyes traveled back to hers and he quickly took his gaze away. It was as though there was a magnetic force in her eyes, drawing him close to her.
“Are you in?” He asked.
“You… Is this an indirect way of asking me out?” Melanie uttered the word that has been disturbing her.
“Because, whether I pas-sor fail the bet, I’ll still end up as your girlfriend,” she muttered.
“If I ask you to be mine, will you?” He asked in a whisper.
“Wh… What?”
He smiled and released her. His hand went to her hair and brushed it gently.
“Don’t think too much about Paisley, alright? She isn’t worth your tears at all, just forget about her” he said.
He stepped back and inse-rted his hands into his jeans pocket.
“By the way, you look beautiful” he a-ssessed her dressing.
“But I love your natural self more,” he smiled handsomely.
Melanie blus-hed lightly by his words.
“Are… Are you really gonna stop smoking?” She asked.
“You don’t trust me? I mean whatever I say, I will… Just for you,” he winked and left the clas-simmediately.
“What the hell! Is he flirting with me?” Melanie gro-aned, trying to steady her heartbeat which was beginning to beat than its usual rate.
*”Let’s make a bet,” he murmured.
“If you pas-sit, you’ll be my girlfriend,” he said.
“What if I fail?” She asked breathlessly.
“I’ll be your boyfriend,” he whispered.*
She recalled his words.
“What bet was he talking about?” She mumbled.
Her mind went to the ki-ss they shared a few minutes ago and she touched her li-ps.
“I really can’t believe this is happening, why the hell did I ki-ss him?” She hits her forehead.
“And he ki-ssed me, I returned it and…”
“Melanie?” She turned swiftly and got startled when she saw Kylie.
Don’t tell me…. He saw everything??
“Hey…” She waved awkwardly.
Kylie smiled and went closer to her.
“What are you doing here?”
“How long have you been here?” They asked at once.
Kylie chuckled.
“I came here to think alone, just now tho. Are you fine?” He asked.
“Yes,” she breathed out.
“I also came here to relax,” she bit her li-ps.
“Oh, that’s cool. We can stay together, right?” He asked.
“Yea, sure”
Kylie sat on a chair opposite her, staring at her face.
“You look beautiful, you’ve always been” he smiled
“Thank you,” Melanie mumbled. His words had no effect on her, but if it were Axel, she would have been a blus-hing mess by now.
Just what’s wrong with her?
“Did you hear what I said?” Kylie’s voice jolted her back to reality.
“Huh?”
“I said, the students are all talking about you and Axel. They feel like something is going between you two,” He said.
“Of course not, there’s nothing between us. Absolutely,”
“I thought as much. I knew there can never be something between you two,” Kylie muttered.
“Why?” Melanie asked.
“You’re two worlds apart from each other. He’s a playboy, a player. He smokes and drinks, mostly sleeping with girls anyhow. He isn’t good for you, Melanie. He’s a bad influence,” Kylie said
“You’re right,” Melanie mumbled. How could she forget the kind of person he was, yet she made him go closer to her?
What if he was just saying those words just to get to her, like his friend Ace??
Kylie stood up and walked to her, he held her two hands in his and she gazed at him
“I’ll never hurt you, Melanie. Never, I’ll always make you happy,” he whispered.
Melanie raised a brow
“I’m not the kind that you’ll have haters around you when you suddenly date me. You’ll be safe, I’ll never use a single thing to hurt you” Kylie continued saying.
“What are you saying?” Melanie forced a smile, trying to release her hand from his but he made it impossible for her to.
“I love you,” Kylie dropped.
“What?” Melanie’s eyes wide-ned.
“I always do. Since the day I set my eyes on you, it was love at first sight,” he smiled.
“I love every single thing about you, your smile, your pretty face…. Every fuc-k ing thing. Give me a chance, Melanie. I promise never to hurt you, I’ll always love you till eternity,” Kylie muttered, staring at her with de-ep affection in his eyes
Melanie blinked her eyes in shock, still staring at him.
“I’ve always wanted to tell you how I feel, but I just need you to see me as a friend first. You’re a jewel, Melanie. I’ll never break you, I promise. Just give me a chance in your life,” he went further.
“Erm… Kylie,” Melanie slowly released her hands from his.
Kylie’s face dropped but he quickly covered it up.
“I’m sorry. I really don’t know what to say, but I can’t return your feelings. You’re just a friend to me, I really don’t think of you as a guy,” Melanie said
“I’m sorry” she whispered.
“It’s fine. I’ll wait, I don’t care how long it takes,” Kylie smiled
“Kylie,”
“I won’t give up on you, Melanie. I won’t” he muttered.
Melanie sighed.

Audrey got to a corner and started yelling her lungs out. Her face was very red as the anger was visible in it.
“fuc-k , how dare that bit-ch ! He ki-ssed her, he kis…” She continued shouting and the students pa-ssing by began to think if she’s gone crazy.
“Stop staring or I’m gonna pluck your eyes out,” she growled.
The students averted their gaze and scurried away in fear.
The seniors in Monash University were known to be bullies, they bully the freshmen a lot and they wouldn’t wanna fall into a trap to it
“I’m going to destroy her! I’ll destroy her stay here! I’ll destroy her life!” Audrey screamed.
She ruffled her hair in anger till she began looking like a mad woman but she cared less.
She wouldn’t ever let any girl that tries to get closer to Axel go, not to talk of dating him.
His dic-k is meant for her alone, no one else.
****
EVENING***
“You still won’t talk?” Lauren asked Melanie. They just finished their last lecture but they’re still in the hall
“After you returned, you just started zoning out. Is everything okay?” Julie asked too.
“Actually… When I left, I met Axel” Melanie bit her li-ps.
“Axel?” Melanie and Julie chorused at once.
“Yes…. We talked for a few minutes and…”
“Gosh,” Melanie covered her face with her palms.
“We ki-ssed,” she blurted out.
“What?!” Lauren gasped.
“What the fuc-k !” Julie yelled.
“You ki-ssed or he ki-ssed you?” Lauren asked slowly.
“We ki-ssed. I ki-ssed him first and then… He ki-ssed me again, I couldn’t resist it and…” Melanie gro-aned.
“You ki-ssed Axel and he ki-ssed you back?” Julie asked slowly.
“Yes. I actually told him to stop smoking and he promised to do so only if I stopped him, I didn’t even think twice before ki-ssing him,” Melanie said.
“It was… I had no control of myself at that moment,” She covered her face again.
“This is so surprising. After that, what did he do?” Lauren asked
“He…” She explained to them.
“Do you think Axel likes you?” Lauren asked after Melanie was done explaining.
“I mean, asking you for a bet. Doesn’t that show he’s asking you out indirectly, right Julie?” She faced Julie.
“Axel doesn’t date. He has an ulterior motive, how can he suddenly ask you that when he has no feelings for you?”
“How could you say that? You need to see it the way he helped Lanie when her clothes got stained, he cares about her. He…”
“Axel doesn’t like you or anything, Melanie. He’s not different from Ace, he just wants to use you and then dump you!” Julie said harshly.
“What?” That was from Melanie.
“Julie, how could you utter such words from your mouth?” Lauren scolded, staring at her in surprise.
“If you love yourself, stay away from him” Julie muttered and stood up, then she left.
Lauren looked at Melanie.
“Lanie, you don’t need to think much. You should know Axel can’t do that, people do change, don’t they?” Lauren said.
Melanie shook her head.
“No. Julie is right, he’s no different from Ace. Kylie said that he’s a playboy. He definitely has something under his sleeves that’s why he keeps coming closer to me,” she bit her li-ps.
“Lauren,” she stared up at her.
“But, why does it hurt just by thinking of it? My heart’s,” Melanie sniffed.
“Must I always get fooled just because I’m soft?”
“Lanie,” Lauren called softly.
“C’mon,” she pulled her to her shoulder and began rocking her like a baby.
“People do change and I’m sure Axel is never gonna play you. I mean, I don’t know him but with the little I’ve seen about him, he isn’t a bad person after all,” Lauren a-ssured.
“And if he ever tried anything with you, I’ll break his head and the thing between his legs,” Julie gritted.
Melanie chuckled and hug-ged her to herself by placing her hand around her waist.
“I mean my word, Lanie. I don’t joke when it comes to you, you mean a lot to me, swears” Lauren murmured
“I love you, Lauren,” Melanie smiled.
“I love you more, Lanie… My best friend,” Lauren grinned.

Ace walked dejectedly to their suite. Melanie never showed up even after he waited for hours.
He entered the house to find only Axel present. He sat opposite him and shut his eyes with a gro-an.
“Are you okay?” Axel asked.
“She’s mad at me. I really don’t know what to do just for her to forgive me, I’ve tried my best but it’s all futile. She doesn’t even want to see me anymore,” Ace said bitterly.
No one needed to tell Axel he was talking about Melanie.
“I really don’t know what to do,” Ace said.
Axel suddenly felt guilty. He couldn’t believe he was falling for the girl his friend loves. His ex-girlfriend.
“Can you help me?” Ace suddenly asked.
“Huh?”
“You stay together, can you help me talk to her? You can, right?”
Axel stared at him.

MELANIE’S APARTMENT, 8PM***
“You don’t sound too good, are you okay?” Aaron asked Axel over the phone.
“I guess not. I just feel tired. Are the guys with you?” Axel asked..
“Yes, they’re in their rooms. I just called to check up on you” Aaron said.
Axel smiled lightly.
“Thanks buddy,”
They talked for a while till Axel ended the call. He stood up and was walking to the kitchen to get himself a bottle of beer when he saw the door opening.
His eyes grew wide in surprise, seeing Ariel with a big traveling bag with her.
“What are you doing here? How did you get in?” He questioned, staring at her in disgust and anger.
“The door was opened so I came in. Besides, I’m your fiance so there’s nothing wrong in me coming to your house” Ariel shrugged.
“Fiancee??” Melanie asked as she came out of her room.
Axel quickly turned.
“Mel…”
“Yes, I am. And I’m here to stay since he refuses to come home” Ariel declared.
“As you can see, I’m here with my luggages, which means I’m here to stay and nothing else,” Ariel grinned, staring at Melanie.
“What?” Melanie stared at Axel.
He has a fiancee? Like, they’re getting married??
