(At L & D Restaurant)
Mike: I’m glad I’m getting off work early today.
Joe: Yeah, You’re really lucky man. How’s your wife, Tara?
Mike: She’s good.
Joe: She’s a full time housewife.
Mike: It doesn’t matter, I work… I pay the bills
(A lady enters the restaurant and goes to sit on a table)
Joe: Looks like we have a another client.
Mike: Clearly. I’ll go take her order.
(Mike walks up to the lady)
Mike: Good day Madam, May I take your order?
Lady: Are you the waiter?
Mike: Uhhh, No… I’m a cook
Lady: Where’s the waiter?
Mike: Actually Madam, The cooks are usually the ones taking the orders… This is kind of a local restaurant
Lady: (scoffs) I should’ve known better!
(She gets up and exits the restaurant)
Joe: What was that about?
Mike: She refused to eat because I was the one taking her order.
Joe: Some people are just so rude and condescending
Mike: (sighs) Tell me about it. I just can’t wait for my shift to be over…
(Meanwhile)
(At Evergreen High)
(Mike’s son, Christopher and his best friend Tyler are at the locker area)
Tyler: Man, Geography cla-ss was boring today.
Christopher: (chuckles) Is there any day it isn’t boring?
(Tyler sees Christopher’s crush, Claire, talking with her boyfriend, Kelvin)
Tyler: Chris!
Christopher: (bringing his head out of his locker) What?
Tyler: There’s Claire.
Christopher: (he looks on to see Claire & Kelvin) So?
Tyler: Go tell her you like her.
Christopher: No way, She’s too cute… I can’t face her.
Tyler: Ugh, Be a man Chris!
Christopher: Even if I do tell her, What difference is it gonna make? She’s still gonna be head over heels with that d0uche bag that calls himself Kelvin.
Tyler: Atleast you’ll get over your anxiety whenever you’re with her.
Christopher: Fine.
(Just then, They see Kelvin leaving Claire)
Tyler: (shoving Christopher) Kelvin’s going, Now’s your chance.
Christopher: Alright. Fine, Fine, Fine!
(Christopher slowly approaches Claire)
Christopher: (sweating) Uhhh, Claire…
Claire: (rudely) What?!
Christopher: Umm, How was Geography cla-ss?
Claire: Go straight to the point!
Christopher: Okay. I was wondering if we could catch a movie during the weekends… What’d do you say?
Claire: Look Chris, You tried to ask me out about six times already this semester… And what has been my answer all six times?
Christopher: No?
Claire: Exactly!
Christopher: But…
Claire: Listen, I CAN’T be seen with you!
Christopher: Why?
Claire: Because my enemies will laugh at me! (rudely) Now do me a favor… STAY THE fu-ck AWAY FROM ME!
(Claire bangs her locker shut at Christopher and catwalks away)
Tyler: (he walks up to Christopher while watching Claire leave the hallway) Oof. Tough luck.
Christopher: I just don’t get what she sees in that Kelvin guy.
Tyler: Well, The b!tch loves b@d boys. (He glances at Christopher) Are you a b@d boy?
Christopher: Nah, I’m a good kid.
Tyler: That’s probably why she doesn’t like you then.
Christopher: Well, There’s no way I’ll try to become someone else entirely just to please Claire.
(The bell rings)
Tyler: Time for Biology.
Christopher: (gro-ans) Ugggghhhhhh…
(Back at L & D Restaurant)
(In the CEO’s office)
Lori Denman: (counting money) Mmm. $260,000 in one week. Business is really booming!
(Someone knocks on her door)
Lori Denman: (keeping the money in her drawer) Come in.
(Mike enters the office)
Lori Denman: Oh it’s you Mike.
Mike: Yeah, Good afternoon Madam Lori… You sent for me?
Lori Denman: Yes Mike, I did. I wanted to discuss with you about something.
Mike: Okay. Go on.
Lori Denman: Have a seat first.
Mike: (he sits down) What’s it about?
Lori Denman: I just want to commend you, You’ve been doing a very good job and helping my restaurant to flourish… You might even be the best cook here. Anyways, I just wanna say you should keep it up (grins) You might even get a promotion soon.
Mike: That would be nice.
Lori Denman: (she takes out $10,000 and drops it on her table) I want you to have that, As a token of my gratitude.
Mike: (he takes the money) Thank you Madam.
Lori Denman: Well, That’s all. You may go now (she winks at him)
(Lori Denman smiles at Mike as he leaves her office)
(The Johnson’s Residence)
(Mike’s wife, Tara cleans up the house while watching TV)
News Reporter: And just in… A family of five recently got burnt to death and their whole house was burnt down as well, It’s still very unclear what started the fire but this is indeed a tragic loss.
Tara: Truly tragic. (She checks her wrist watch) It’s almost 4pm and the kids aren’t back yet. Maybe Mike will pick them up since he’s getting off work early today. (She continues cleaning)
(On the highway)
(Mike is in his car, driving back to his house)
Mike: (singing along to the track playing in his car)??? Just live your life, oh, ay, ay, ay, Ain’t got no time for no haters. Just live your life, oh, ay, ay, ay, No telling where it’ll take you. Just live your life, oh, ay, ay, ay, Cause I’m a paper chaser…. ???
(Just then, He sp-ots a figure lying helplessly by the roadside)
Mike: (curiously) What in the name of…
(Mike stops then gets down from his car and rushes to the person)
Mike: (shocked) It’s a young girl… (He shakes the girl gently and she slowly opens her eyes) How did you get here?
Girl: (breathlessly) Help me.
(She suddenly loses consciousness)
Mike: (He looks around) I have to get her to the hospital.
(Mike carries the girl into his car and drives off to the hospital)
(Later on)
(At Evergreen Central Hospital)
Mike: So Doctor, How is she?
Dr Angus: She’s fine now, She was just suffering from mild exhaustion that’s all.
Mike: Can I see her?
Dr Angus: Of course you can. It’s ward 12
Mike: Thank you.
(Mike goes to the girl’s ward)
Mike: Hello
Girl: You saved me…
Mike: Yeah. I found you lying unconscious by the roadside so I picked you up and brou-ght you to the hospital not too long ago.
Girl: Thank you so much Sir.
Mike: Do you remember what happened? How you arrived at the roadside?
Girl: I ran away from home.
Mike: Why? What happened?
Girl: The house I was living in caught fire, So I managed to run out but before I could call for help… I fainted.
Mike: What about the people inside?
Girl: They burnt to death.
Mike: They were your family?
Girl: (sobbing) Yes… They were all I had in this world
Mike: That’s too sad. (He cleans her tears) What is your name?
Girl: My name is… (she sm-irks ev!lly) Katherine.

(In Katherine’s ward)
Mike: (smiling) Katherine… That’s a nice name
Katherine: Yes it is. I was named after my great grandmother.
Mike: That’s sweet, I’m certain she was as graceful as you are. (He gets up from her bed) I should leave you to rest.
(Katherine suddenly clutches Mike’s wrist)
Katherine: No, Don’t go. I don’t want to be alone… I’m scared. Please stay with me.
Mike: (he slowly sit back down on her bed) Sure.
(Meanwhile)
(At Evergreen High)
Christopher: Man, I’m so psyched today’s Friday.
Tyler: Me too
Christopher: I’m gonna use my phone and play video games all night.
Tyler: (he gives Christopher a fist bump) That’s what I was thinking too.
(Suddenly, Kelvin grabs Christopher from behind then brutally sl@ms him ha-rd against a locker)
Kelvin: (angrily) What’s this I’m hearing?
Christopher: (confused) Huh…
Kelvin: Claire told me all of the nasty things you said to her
Christopher: I only told her I like her, That’s all
Kelvin: You like her? (laughing mockingly) Hahahahaha! How would she ever like you when she has me? You’re merely a p@thetic lo$er with nothing to lose
(Tyler intervenes)
Tyler: Hey! Let him go!
(Kelvin shoves Tyler to the ground)
Kelvin: Mind your business you punk! (To Christopher) Now where were we? Oh that’s right… (He punches Christopher in the stomach) Stay! (He punches him in the stomach again) away! (He kicks Christopher) From Claire!
Christopher: (he clutches to his stomach in discomfort) Oww…
(Kelvin slams Christopher back against the locker then leaves them)
Tyler: (watching Kelvin leave) Man, What a j€rk. (He turns to Christopher) You okay?
Christopher: (getting up from the floor) I’m okay…
(Later)
(At The Johnson’s Residence)
Tara: (calling Mike) Ugh, Why isn’t he answering my calls or my texts?
(Just then, Her children – Christopher, Billy and Rachel return home from school)
Tara: Welcome home kids.
Christopher & Billy: Thanks Mom.
(Rachel runs to Tara and she carries her up)
Tara: Mmm, Did you miss me?
Rachel: (nodding her head) Yes Mom.
Tara: I missed you too sweetheart, And guess what? I’m making your favorite food tonight… Tofu!
Rachel: (squeals excitedly) Yay!
Tara: (she looks to the door then looks at Christopher) Where’s your father?
Christopher: We don’t know Mom.
Tara: He didn’t drive you all back home?
Christopher: No, We came home ourselves.
Tara: (worriedly) My goodness, Where could he be? (She keeps on trying Mike’s number)
(Meanwhile)
(At Evergreen Central Hospital)
(Dr Angus takes Katherine to the waiting room to Mike)
Mike: Is she better now?
Katherine: (smiling) Yes. I am.
Dr Angus: We decided there was no need to admit her since she has recovered very well.
Mike: Yes but there’s one slight problem now… She has no home, Her previous house got burnt down along with her family
Dr Angus: (To Katherine) You have no relative?
Katherine: None that I know of.
Dr Angus: We could refer you to a foster home…
Katherine: No, I don’t want to go to a foster home, I’m too old for that.
Mike: How old are you?
Katherine: I’m 17
Mike: Hmm, You’re almost a young adult. (he stares around for a while) I have an idea, How would you like you come live with me in my home, I have a son your age and I’m sure you both will get along just fine.
Katherine: (smiling) I would love that.
(Mike catches sight of the box in her hand)
Mike: What’s in that box you’re holding?
Katherine: Ohh, This box contains the pictures of my loved ones. I just want to always remember them
Mike: That’s fine
(Later that night)
(The Johnson’s Residence)
Tara: (checking the time) This is almost 8pm for goodness sake! Where on Earth could your father be?
Christopher: (he shrugs his shoulders)
Tara: (she grabs her coat) I’m going out to look for him.
(Just then, Someone knocks on the door)
Tara: Who is that?
Christopher: It might be Dad.
Tara: I’ll go check.
(Tara goes to open the door and sees Mike then she hugs him ti-ghtly)
Tara: (breaking the hug) Ugh, About time! Do you know how worried I was? Where have you been?
Mike: I ran into a slight issue.
Tara: Well I’m glad you’re okay, But what happened to your phone? I tried calling you but it kept going straight to voicemail.
Mike: (he takes his phone out of his pocket) Ooh, My battery died.
Tara: Whatever. Just don’t do that again, You scared the h€ll outta me.
(Mike kis-ses her)
Mike: I’m sorry honey. I promise, I’ll call if I’m gonna be late, Okay?
Tara: It’s fine.
Mike: Anyways, There’s someone I want you all to meet. (He looks outside) Come in Katherine!
(Katherine enters the house)
Katherine: Wow. Your house is beautiful.
Mike: Thank you. This is my wife, Tara.
Tara: (she waves her hand shockingly at Katherine) Hi.
Mike: And these are my kids, Rachel… She’s 9 years old, Billy, He’s 12 years old and Christopher, He’s the eldest, 17 years old.
Billy & Rachel: Hello.
Mike: Everyone… Meet Katherine
Tara: Uhhh, Mike. Can I speak with you in the kitchen? Privately?
Mike: Sure. (To Katherine) Make yourself at home.
(As Tara takes Mike to the kitchen, Katherine watches them with narrowed eyes)
Tara: Who is that girl?
Mike: I just told you. She’s Katherine.
Tara: No I meant who is she? Where did she come from? How did you meet her?
Mike: Her names is Katherine and she’s a citizen of Evergreen Falls. I found her lying unconscious on the road on my way back home so I had to take her to the hospital to be treated
Tara: And then you brou-ght her to our house… A total stranger for crying out loud!
Mike: She needs my help.
Tara: (sighs) We need to contact the police right away. They can “help” her.
Mike: And what are they gonna do? Take her away to an orphanage or a foster home? Listen, She’s too old for that. Katherine just lost her family in a fire…
Tara: What a coincidence, I just saw on the news that a family of five got burnt to death in an ghastly fire outbreak. Is she part of that family?
Mike: I don’t know but I’m going to give her back the life that she’s lost… End of discussion.
(Mike leaves the kitchen and Tara sighs worriedly)
(Later that night)
(Mike takes Katherine to her room)
Mike: Voilà! This is your room.
Katherine: (amazed) It’s magnificent, I love it.
Mike: It was for firstly designed for my Mom when she wanted to come to my house, Hope you don’t mind?
Katherine: Not at all, It’s perfect.
Mike: Alright, Go freshen up then you can come downstairs and have dinner.
Katherine: Okay Uncle Mike.
(Mike leaves her room)
Katherine: (she sits on the bed and fondles the pillow) Soft and squishy… (She hides her box un-der the bed)
(Just then, Christopher barges into her room)
Katherine: (slowly rising up from the bed) Haven’t you ever heard of knocking?
Christopher: Who are you?
Katherine: (calmly) I don’t un-derstand your question.
Christopher: I know you’re not as innocent as you seem, You’re up to something.
Katherine: Like what?
Christopher: I haven’t figured if out yet… But I will!
Katherine: Whatever! If you will excuse me, I want to go to shower and then after, I’ll need to take a long long snooze. 9 hours is a must!
Christopher: (scoffs) Fre@k.
(As Christopher leaves the room, Katherine starts at him d€vilishly)
