CHAPTER 39
THE WEDDING DAY
“Isn’t he here yet?” Carly asked for the umpteenth time.
“He’ll be here soon” Aurora said calming her down.
“Why is he so damn late?” She frowns rubbing her palm together.
“Don’t frown you’ll ruin your makeup”
“Do I look like I care about that now? I’m so nervous to death” she breathes in focusing her eyes on the door.
Minutes later the door finally opened and virtually everyone gasped on seeing the person entering.
“What is she doing here?”
“Omg I can’t believe I’m looking at her right now…she’s damn pretty”
“My role model…I’m so lucky”
“Carly…?” Mercury called nervously as she moves closer to her.
“Oh you’re here” Carly said nonchalantly.
“We’ll excuse you” Aurora said leaving with the girls.
“You look so pretty Carly…I’m happy for you”
“Thank you…you look prettiest…oh I mean…you’re more prettier…no that doesn’t sound right..you’re a prettier…you look stunning” Carly said and Mercury chuckles.
Carly clears her throat.
“Look I know this isn’t the right time but I’m terribly sorry Carly for leaving just like that…I had no choice it was sudden and_”
“You didn’t even called…not for once…you didn’t took our feelings into considerations Mec…that was total bad of you”
“I know…?” Mec said keeping her low down.
“Come on…people might think I’m bullying you on my wedding day…I haven’t forgiven you but I’ll just spare you for today…I don’t wanna ruin my wedding day” she said and Mercury grins running to hug her.
“Carly…I missed you so much…?” She hugs her back.
They stayed like that for a while and Mercury disengage when she heard her sniffing.
“Oh you shouldn’t cry Carly…the wedding will start soon you shouldn’t ruin your makeup”
“This feels so unreal Mec…I…?”
“It’s okay…please don’t cry…?” She wipes away the tears and she nodded.
“I’m happy you two are finally together…you two were being so stubborn that I thought it wouldn’t worked out”
“You knew about it?”
“I didn’t know about you but I did knew Olive likes you…for sometime…but he was being so obstinate when I asked him to confess his feelings” she said and Carly chuckles.
“He has always been so obstinate..? By the way have you seen him?”
“No…I came to you straight on getting here…?”
“Oh…you should see him…he always talked about you a lot…he didn’t admit it but I know he must have missed you so much”
“I’ll go see him then…I’ll see you later Carly…congratulations on your wedding” they hugged one more time.
Mercury head for the door she reached her hand to open it but before she did someone else opened it from outside.
The two stood both in surprised and shock staring at each other.
“Cla…Clark…?” She called after a moment of staring.
Clark got hold of himself he ignored her and went over to Carly.
“Crybaby Carl” he called and Carly runs to hug him.
“Oh you shouldn’t run like that…you’re a new bride for fuck sake” he said as Carly wraps her hands around him.
“What took you so long? You kept me waiting since forever”
“I’m sorry baby…I was busy with wo_”
“Work! This is my wedding day Clark…you went to work before coming here?”
“I’m sorry okay…I’m here already…?”
“Clark I’m so nervous to death…what if I made a mistake? What if I flop…what if I ruin it?”
“Shut up already…everything is gonna go well…?” He hugs her.
Mercury just watched at the doorpost with regrets.
She’s back but…will she be able to get close to them like before?
Will she ever have the chance to be their friend again?
Will they take her in again? She left the place.
She went to see Olive who was happy to have her back also.
Kings acted like he doesn’t know her.
And Danny just smiles but she can feel he still very much mad at her also.
Clark won’t even spare her a glance.
The wedding goes on.
Mercury keep looking at Clark and the pretty lady beside him as they both whisper something to each other.
She sighs.
“You okay?” Candy asked and she smiles.
Leo came in and sat with them.
“Hey babe..?” He kissed his cheek.
“You’re back” she smiles.
“Yeah…kinda late…what did I miss?”.
“They are just exchanging rings”
“Ohh…?”
Mercury took the glass of water to drink but stopped when she saw kings glaring at her.
She smiles at him but he rolls his eyes looking away.
LATER.
It was time for the bride to toss the bouquet.
All the single ladies March forward to the dance Hall including Ivy.
“Aren’t you going?” Candy asked but Mercury shook her head.
“But why? You’re single you should be up there”
“See…I’m not stopping you from going…you can if you wanna go” Mercury said.
“Really…actually I have been thinking about that handsome guy since earlier” she points at kings.
“Kings?”
“Uh? He’s so cutee despite his cold personality…who knows I may catch the bouquet and he made catch the garter then we would get married and lived happily” she grins.
“What a wild imagination you’ve got there”
“Later…?” She squealed and join the ladies.
Carly looks back at the ladies her eyes finding Mercury but she couldn’t find her there.
She looks at the crowd and saw her sitting.
She beckons on her to come but Mercury shook her head.
“Come on go…you’re keeping them waiting” Leo said.
Mercury sighs and got up heading to the dance floor.
The crowd started cheering calling her name.
She stole the limelight immediately.
Clark looks at her as she walks to the dance floor staying at the end.
His eyes met hers and he quickly looks away clenching his fists.
How dare her come here? He thought unknoting his tie which has starts to suffocate him.
Carly finally toss the bouquet and all the ladies jump to get it especially Candy and Ivy they both seem determined.
Ivy got the bouquet but Candy still trying to get it mistakenly pushed Ivy.
The bouquet fell from her and Mercury unconsciously grab it.
Silence fell in.
Reporter won’t stop taking her pictures as she hold the bouquet.
“MJ is getting married?”
“Will she resign now?”
“She looks like a goddess with that in her hand”
“Marry me gorgeous”
Mercury looks at the bouquet in her hand.
Oh no…this isn’t good she thought.
Leo won’t stop grinning where he sat.
His happiness knew no bounds right now.
“Congrats Mec…you just came back and now…it seems you’ll be getting married soon” Carly said and Mercury forced a smile.
“I hope not…?” She mutters to herself.
“Congrats..you’re lucky” Ivy said and she smiles back.
“You rock girl…?” Candy squealed as she went back to her sit and Mercury sighs.
She hate this.
DURING THE RECEPTION.
A chair was placed at the center with Carly sitting on it.
Olive go on one of his knees and went underneath Carly’s gown trying to remove the garter.
The crowd cheers and Carly blushed.
It was on both her legs but he went for the one on the left.
“Get it man! You can do it”
“Go deeper…deeper!”
Some guys shouted and Olive tries to remove the garter from her leg with his his teeth.
“What’s taking you so long man!”
“Are you stuck?!” Someone said and everyone bursts into laughter.
Olive brought down the garter and placed a soft kiss on her thigh before withdrawing.
Carly chuckles and Olive stood up showing them the garter.
They all shouted hailing him.
The bachelors start moving to the dance hall.
Kings eyes met with Candy and she winks at him.
They all gathered there and Olive was ready to toss the garter.
Mercury stays nervously where she was.
Olive teased them for a while making the guys feel impatient.
Finally he threw the garter and calmly he caught it.
Mercury literally fainted where she was.
She knew this isn’t gonna end well the moment she caught that bouquet.
She looks at Leo who smiles at her before sitting on the chair.
The crowd won’t stop cheering.
“This isn’t actually happening…?” Candy said to herself where she stood.
“It is dearie..it is happening and I sense war coming” Danny replied and Carly looks at him.
Danny smiles at her showing off his cute dimples.
“What’s with him?” Candy frowns looking back at Mercury.
“They’re dating aren’t they?” Danny asked again.
“Who and who?” Candy asked not looking at him.
“Mercury and Leo”
“Yes they are?”
“That shithead”
Candy looks at him now.
Danny smiles at her and leaves.
“What a weirdo…but it’s a pity my cutie didn’t get it”
Clark went on one of his knees also holding the garter.
Ivy watch intensely where she was.
She knew this is gonna end good.
Mercury Sat nervously there regretting she went out to catch the bouquet.
Clark face was full of indifference…he avoided her gaze as he inserts the garter on her leg.
He raise her leg up with one of his hand and drew the garter up with his teeth to her thigh.
Mercury shut her eyes closed as he did this.
The crowd keeps on cheering.
His lips brushed her thigh and Mercury shudder.
Clark also seems shocked and he stops for a while.
After the intense wait Clark stood up dropping his gaze.
He didn’t spare her a glance and be went out of there.
Mercury also went back to her sit.
She looks at Leo and he gave her a small smile.
Mercury could tell something is definitely gonna happen later.
She sighs.
“I’m gonna use the bathroom…?” She said standing up.
Leo only nodded.
Mercury washed her face and sighs for the umpteenth time.
She just came back but too much drama has already occurred.
She fears for the one that’s gonna happen in future.
She dried her face and her hands and head out.
She was about returning to the reception when she heard some sounds like someone gasping for air.
She traced the sound and saw someone sitting on the floor.
“Clark!” She shrieked running to him.
“What happened Clark? What’s wrong with you? Are you okay?” She held his face but Clark pushed her away trying to stand.
“Are you sick? What’s happening?” She held him again.
“Just!….get lost” he whipped his hand away and leaves staggering.
Mercury made to go to him but stops when she saw the pretty lady running towards him.
“Clark! I’ve been looking for you…come on let’s get out of here…?” She held him taking him out of there.
Mercury just stood watching them as they leave.
Ivy looks back at her with some expression she couldn’t not understand.
Mercury just wonder what’s happening to him as they left.
