He sat on the chair playing his favorite song on the piano.
“Somehow I feel you can do it…my guts tells me so”
“You’re the only one who can help her Olive” the words keeps ringing on his head.
He continues playing.
“She’s an harlot Olive you should ssty away from her” Mia words rings in his head.
He continues playing.
Carly’s expression the other day replayed in his head.
“Aish!” He hits the piano repeatedly.
“Are you okay son?” His father asked standing by the doorpost.
“Dad…I’m…I’m good…?”
His father nodded leaving.
“How annoying…?” He stood up and went to meet his father in the sitting room.
“Dad…I need your help”
CARLY’S HOUSE.
“Mr Sylvester…what a surprise to see you here” Mr Johnson said ushering them in.
“I had a business to do at the neighborhood and just decided to drop by…your house is near anyway I’m sorry it’s sudden”
“No worries I’m actually happy to see you here…hello young man”
“Good day Sir” he smiles.
“Wow…I can say your son is just as good looking as you were years back”
“Oh please I’m still good looking…?”
They all laughed.
The maids served them some drinks.
“It’s such an honor to have you here seriously…”
“Just make sure to return the visit”
“That I’ll surely do” he chuckles.
“Yeah…where is our beautiful wife?”
“Oh she’s out of the country”
“With the kids?”
“Yeah…the kids also”
“You must be quite lonely in this big house”
“Oh come on…the maids are with me with the guards and besides I don’t stay home everytime…I do go on business trips…in fact just returned from one”
“Oh I forgot you’re a busy man..it must be luck I got to meet you today”
“That’s for sure…that’s for sure…?”
“Where’s Carly? I haven’t seen her around” Olive finally said.
“Carly? Ohhh you must be close with my daughter?”
“She’s my classmate…where is she?”
“Since she’s your classmate then you two should hang around..so you won’t get bored with us here?…but I thought your kids are out of the country?”
“Yeah…except her…but em…she’s isn’t around either…she went to meet a friend of hers”
“When will she be back?” Olive asked immediately.
“She’ll be staying over there…so she says…you know girls..they like those things” he chuckles nervously.
“Yeah…we did that back when we were in school also…I can remember spending some nights at your place with others”
“That was such long ago…fun days”
“I’m gonna take a stroll around…you don’t mind right?”
“Sure you can…go on”
Olive stood up.
“I’ll be back…?” He went outside his eyes surveying the entire place.
“Really guarded I see…?” He murmurs to himself .
The maids won’t stop gaping at him.
Some even flirts with him but he seems less bother with them.
He only came there for a reason.
“Son” he heard turning back he saw hi father and Mr Johnson coming to meet him.
“We’re heading to the shade over there…mind joining us”
“You guys go ahead I’ll to use the rest room”
“Alright make it fast son…?” He nodded and went back inside.
Both outside and inside is full of guards.
Hmmm…this is gonna be hard.
He went upstairs as directed for the restroom.
According to what Mercury told him, Carly’s room is the third on the left.
Seeing how the guards are also outside the room she must really be in there.
He thought of what to do.
An idea came to him.
He went back downstairs when no one is watching…he did something mischievous and suddenly wire starts sparking and before they knew it fire broke out.
The maids start running around shouting and the guards tries to pull out the fire.
He ran upstairs and alert the guards of the fire…reluctantly they left downstairs and he quickly went to the door but hell it was locked.
What did he expect.
How will he get the key now?
This is the only opportunity he has.
No time either.
Ruffling his hair in anger an old woman came in sight and handed the keys over to him.
He looked at her for a while before collecting it.
He unlock the door and rushed inside.
Carly was lying on the floor unconsciously with bruises on her body.
“Carly!” He shrieked and he hold her in his arms.
“Hurry” the old lady said and he piggy back her.
He locked the door back and turned to the old lady.
“Thank you…?” He said leaving but had to stop when he saw the guards running back towards them.
It seems they haven’t seen him yet.
“Follow me” the old lady said leading him to God knows where.
They went through a door and they place seems like an underground or something.
“Hurry hurry…?” The old lady said as she rushed down the second stairs climbing down another.
They heard footsteps chasing them and Olive tries to increase his pace but he missed his steps instead rolling down the stairs together with her.
“Argh!”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m…?
“Hurry they are catching up…?”
He stood up and carry Carly and some minutes later they finally arrived at the backyard of the house.
The old lady locked the door before the guards could catch up with them.
“I just need to take her to the car” he said to the old lady.
“I entrust her to you…please…save her I’ll get rid of the guards for you…you must get her out of this place it’s now or never” she and to him and he nodded.
“Wait here…?”
She leaves and he waited eagerly.
“What are you guys doing over here….there’s is fire inside find something to do about it!” The old lady shouted at the guards outside the house.
“What’s happening Dinah?” Mr Johnson asked.
“Sir…a fire outbreak please you have to save them…?”
“Go check it out” he said to the guards.
“Hope everything is okay?” Mr Sylvester asked.
“I hope so…?”
“It seems something serious I won’t bother you..?”
“I promise to return this visit I’m sorry for the inconvenience”
“Till later” they shakes hands and Mr Johnson head inside immediately.
Olive has managed to sneak Carly inside the car when the guards left.
“Dad… Let’s leave now” he entered the backseat while his father entered the car also.
“Fast fast go!” He said and the driver ignited the engine driving off from the compound of Mr Johnson.
“Is she okay?” Mr Sylvester asked looking at worried Olive holding Carly in his arms from the mirror.
“She should be…? Can you drive faster you’re too damn slow”
AT THE HOSPITAL.
Carly was rushed to the emergency ward on the stretcher.
“Son you’re bleeding!” Mr Sylvester exclaimed pointing to his clothes.
Olive held his stomach he actually got a cut earlier when he rolled down the stairs.
“It hurts…?”
THREE DAYS LATER.
Carly opens her eyes slowly.
Everything was blurry at first she looks around.
This is a hospital. She thought to herself.
She tries to move then discovered her something was pulling her hand.
She looks down to it and saw Mercury sitting beside her she was asleep and was holding her hand.
“Mercury…?” She mutters.
Just then the door opens and Danny walked in.
“Oh C you’re finally awake?” He said.
“Danny?” She mutters trying to sit up but a hand suddenly wrapped around her hugging her so tightly.
“Carly…are you okay? Are you okay now? Does it still hurts? How are you feeling?” She asked checking her body.
“Do you still recognize me?” Mercury asked with her gaze on her.
“Mercury…?” She whispers.
“Oh Carl!” She hugs him again.
“Hey move let me hug her too” Danny pushed Mercury away and hug Carly.
“Took you long enough sleeping beauty…?” He whispers in her ears.
Carl just sat there saying nothing.
Ten minutes later the trio sat there in silence waiting for the others after making a call to them.
Carly haven’t said anything to them and Mercury and Danny won’t stop staring at her.
The door finally open and kings rushed in.
“Babe!!” He rushed to hug her but Carly rushed down from the bed and ran to Clark jumping on him.
They all stood watching her and Clark wrapped his arms around her hugging her back.
Carly cried on his shoulder and Olive just stood at the doorpost watching them like others.
AN HOUR LATER.
“initially he only starve and locked me up for days…but then…he started beating….kicking…and…” She held Clark’s hand tightly.
“You can stop now Carly” he saidand she shakes her head.
“He whips me almost every time…it hurts so much everytime he does that…I couldn’t tell anybody…I was scared…he threatened…he threatened to….?”
“It’s okay…?” Clark hugs her again.
“That despicable man he should be locked up right away!” Mercury gritted standing up but Leo held her back.
“Carl…did he also touch you?” Danny asked and everyone waited eagerly for her response.
“No…he didn’t” she replied and they all heaved a sigh of relief.
“Don’t worry Carl…from now on everything stops…we will all protect you” Clark assured and she nodded.
“Thanks guys…?” She mutters and they engaged in a group hug.
“We’ve got you from now on…?”
THE NEXT DAY.
Carly was getting ready to sleep when the door suddenly creaked open.
“Mercury…?”
“Hi…?” She smiles.
“Mec you should be in school…?”
“Ohh…I’m playing hooky” she itch her hair.
Carly stares at her.
“Just leave it Carl…it’s boring anyway”
“You should be preparing for the exams not bunking classes”
“I’m not playing truant…I’m here to study with you…see?” She shows her her schoolbag and Carly sighs.
Mercury went beside her and sat on the chair beside the bed.
They went silent.
“I brought some lemons…your favorite”
“Thanks…?”
“I’ll peel it…?”
“Okay…thanks…?”
“How…how is your body?” She asked peeling the lemons.
“Getting better…?”
“No discomfort?”
“Hmm…?”
“Okay…?”
“Here…?” She gave her the lemon after a moment of awkward silence.
“Thanks…?”
“Tell me why do you like lemon so much out of all the fruits out there?”
“Cause…of the taste”
“The taste?”
“Hmm….the taste reminds me of how sour my life is…maybe bitter?”
“Lemons are not bitter”
“But my life is…want some?”.
“No thanks…?”
Carly smiles and put the lemon in her mouth.
“Owww…poor teeth…?” Mec gritted and Carly smiles.
“It’s my teeth”
“Yeah good for it…?” She murmurs and Carly chuckles.
Mercury smiles looking at her.
“You’re smiling more lately…I’m happy…?”
Silence creeped in.
“I’m sorry Mec…?” She said after a while.
“I’ve been expecting that”
“Yeah…took long enough right?”
“Can’t blame you though…that stubbornness and ego of yours is to be blamed”
Carly chuckles.
“Why didn’t you tell me? I asked you that night…you should have just come clean then all these wouldn’t have happened”
“I was scared…I couldn’t…?”
“Carly…he could have killed you and no body will know…it isn’t right…you should have opened up at least to me…I…was…i am your friend right?”
“You said was there”
“Ignore that”
“Yeah…I will…?”
“Carly-”
“Mec…believe I wanted to…but how can I with the things happening…I couldn’t…I was…?”
“Full of pride and stubbornness right?”
“Maybe…?”
Mercury sighs.
“Come here” Carly moves closer reluctantly and Mercury wrapped her hands around her.
“It’s okay…the point is..we found out before something worse happened”
“I’m sorry for everything Mec…I was bad and mean to you”
“Not only to me but yourself…and…im sorry also…for everything…?”
“Believe me Mec…I…i missed you a lot…I…?”.
” I know…?” She looks at her and clean her tears.
“Look at those tears of yours…it ain’t pretty at all…you look haggard my dear friend”
Carly wipe her tears away.
“How long do I have to say here”
“At least for a week”
“A week? That’s too long…I have to go to school and exams are starting very soon and I have to_”
“Shhh…that’s why I’m here right? To study with you and keep your company…you’re the top student in our class I’m sure being absent won’t make you fail your exams”
“But Mec-”
“Don’t! We’re studying together and that’s final”
“You’ll bunk off your class for me everyday…I can’t let you do that”
“Don’t worry about that…we’re taking turns”
“Uh?”
“We really should stop chit chatting now…let’s study…this is our final year we shouldn’t be slacking”
“I’m glad you know that…for a person who is playing truant”
“Just eat your lemons”
“Thank you Venus…for everything”
“I was expecting that…eat…?” She smiles.
