???? Chapter Forty-Eight ????

~One on One~

????PAULO????

“You are here.” Naomi said, scrolling throu-ghher phone without even sparing him a glance.

“Seems like you’ve been expecting me.” Paulo said.

She shrugged, grabbing the steaming mug of tea from the table and gulping it. “Maybe.”

“Why did you do it?” He asked.

She dropped the mug down on the table and continued with her phone. “It’s for your own good.”

“Stop saying that crap!” Paulo yelled at the top of his voice, surprising both Naomi and himself. She slowly looked up at him, her eyes were wide-ned in complete shock. “You can’t keep justifying your wrongs by saying that shit all the time.”

“What wrongs are you talking about, Paulo?” She asked, coming up to her feet. “Is it the wrongs of trying to protect everyone involve in the case?”

“Do you Ace wants this? Do you think Ace will be happy to know that his mother is doing everything within her strength to put an end to this case? Or do you think I’m going to stop searching simply because you asked them to suspend me?”

“They suspended you?” She asked, feigning innocent.

“Stop acting clueless. You asked him to suspend me if i don’t drop the case.” He said, glaring at her.

“Then why didn’t you? Huh?” She sighed, running her fingers throu-ghher hair. “Why are you making things difficult for everyone? Just drop the case. I beg of you.” She pleaded.

Paulo scoffed. “Why are you protecting the murderer?”

“What?”

“You heard me. Why exactly are you refusing to tell us who this fu-cking murderer is?”

“I…I…” She gulped hard, looking away.

“Did you know Ace received a note from this ‘unknown murderer’?” He asked, air quoting the unknown murderer, using his fingers.

“What?”

“Oh, seems like you don’t.” He went closer to her. “Listen, no matter how ha-rd you try to stop this case… it won’t work. I won’t stop searching until I catch this fu-cking psychopath. And hey, you can keep trying to stop me, do you know why?” She didn’t say anything. “It motivates me to search more.” With that said, he turned around and left the house.

????BALLERINA????

“Today was so fun.” She said, giggling.

Ace parked his car in front of the palace and turned to look at her. “Yeah. Thanks for lighting up my mood.”

“Don’t mention.” She smiled. “But I failed to do one thing.”

Ace raised a questioning brow at her. “What?”

“Make you smile.”

“I told you, I can’t smile.” He stated.

She rolled her eyes at him. “Impossible. Everyone is capable of smiling, Ace. Even the devil is.” Ace said nothing, looking away from her. “Here,” She handed him the flyer of the ballet show. “Can you come along with me?”

“Where?”

“You can read, right?”

Ace scoffed, going throu-ghthe flyer. He slowly lifted his gaze to meet with hers. She was staring directly into his eyes. “A ballet show.”

“Yeah. But not mine. A colleague of mine invited me… i can’t say no. But, I can’t go alone either. So do you mind coming with me?”

“Do I have an option?”

She slowly shook her head, smiling. “Nah.”

“Fine. See you next tomorrow then.”

“Yeah. I will send you all of the pictures we took, okay?”

“Hmm.”

She opened the door and got out of the car before waving him off, she watched him drive away then went inside.

“My princess.” Heather knocked softly against the door, waiting patiently for a reply.

“Come in.” Ballerina said from inside.

Heather turned the doorknob and walked in. Ballerina was lying down on the bed, staring up at the ceilings. “Are you alright, my princess?”

“Shouldn’t I be?” Ballerina replied rudely, not looking at her maid.

“I’m sorry if this question I asked was dumb.” Heather quickly apologized, bowing her head.

“Why are you here? I can’t remember calling for you.”

“Oh yeah. I’m actually here to see you for something.” Heather said, stepping closer to the bed.

“What?”

Heather clears her throat before saying. “Doctor Charles is dead.”

Ballerina jerked out of the bed, coming to stand in front of Heather. “What?”

“I’m just receiving the news, my princess.” She said calmly, sniffing.

“Have you been crying?” Ballerina asked, watching Heather closely.

“It’s quite heartbreaking, my princess. How are we going g to solve the case if the only witness we know is dead? What are we going to do now? The only person ma’am Claire talked to was him and now that he’s gone… who is going to help us out of this mess?” She cried.

Ballerina let out a de-ep breath, wrapping her arms around Heather and hugging her closely.

She was right.

Heather was right.

How was she going to solve this case now?

Who will she run to for help?

Will they ever be able to figure out this murderer?

Will she have a happy ending?

Tears streamed down to her face.

What even killed him? Or no, who killed him?

It can’t be the murderer after her life that killed him, right?

Doctor Charles didn’t die because of her, right?

What’s going on?

Why does the people she love choose to die early?

Was she meant to spend all of her life alone?

Why does her story have to be so complicated and fu-cking annoying?

Why can’t a day go by without any death or fear?

Heather hug-ged her back as well, crying her eyes out.

Ballerina felt like crying as well but seeing Heather cry like this kind of weaken her heart.

She cares for Heather as much as Heather cares for her.

But ever since that necklace incident, she has been behaving so different towards the poor girl.

She hardly talks to her.

She hardly goes out with her.

She doesn’t tell her anything like she normally used to.

Everything were different between them.

And honestly, she miss being with Heather.

Heather have been there for her even before she became blind.

Heather loved and took care of her.

She treated her like her sister.

Even her mother have also worked for the palace, she had given birth to Heather in the palace and had taken care of her in here as well.

Ballerina and Heather were best of friends. And that’s why Ballerina doesn’t see her as a personal maid but as a sister she never had.

Why did she even suspect Heather of betraying her?

Why did she listen to Paulo against her own best friend!?

But what if Heather was truly involve in all of this?

????NARRATOR????

She moved away from the door, smiling.

Everything are going according as plan.

And very soon, just very soon, the princess will be overthrown and the throne will be given to her boss!

But how will she get closer to the princess?

What does she need to do?

She fold her arms across her chest and was staring at the door as she thought of a better plan.

Jersey suddenly walked past her. She stared at her… immediately, an idea struck her and she started smiling.

“The only way to get closer to her is by saving someone that she loves. This is getting more interesting.” She smirked.

????ACE????

He won’t deny it, he had so much fun today.

She made him feel something he has never felt before.

After the death of his father, he had locked up his heart to love but right now, it doesn’t seem to be the one looking for live but love looking for him.

He wants her close all the time.

He enjoys her company so much and wish they didn’t have to get separated.

He was getting addicted…and it was scaring the shit out of him.

His phone started ringing, pulling him back to the human world.

He grabbed his phone and answered the call.

“Paul.” He said as soon as he answered the call.

“Hey man, where are you?”

“Out. Why?”

“Can we meet?” He asked.

Ace hesitate for a while, wondering why exactly Paulo wanted to see him. “Is there a problem?”

“Not really. But it’s relating to the case. Will you come over or I should come over?”

“Where do you want to come over to?” Ace asked him.

“Shut up, man and come over.” Paulo stated, after realizing that he had just asked a stupid question.

Of course, they can’t meet at Ace’s house because of the ‘third wheel’ which so happens to be Ace’s mother.

And a-ssuming she was a part of the case maybe everything would have been better and would have been able to meet up at his house but since she was against it… they clearly can’t have meeting at his house unless they go to his room or she’s not around.

Honestly, the woman can not be trusted.

“Wait, she did what?”

“You heard me.” Paulo sighed, taking a gulp of the alcoholic drink.

“Why the hell will she do that? Like seriously?”

“She clearly doesn’t want us to go on with the case for a reason I don’t know. But whatever she’s hiding is really huge.” He said.

“What did you find out?” Ace asked.

“Something very big. I found the witness.”

Ace eyes went wide at this revelation. “Are you kidding me right now?”

“I can’t do that, Ace. I seriously found the witness. The little girl who was with you that very night with your father.”

“Who is she? Is she willing to talk? Where does she live? How do I contact her? And why are you just telling me?” Ace asked all at once, getting so impatient.

“Calm down, will ya?” Paulo scoffed. “Firstly, she is just like you.”

“What do you mean?”

“She doesn’t remember what happened that night.”

“She doesn’t?”

“Yeah. She doesn’t even know she is a witness of a case.”

“Wow.”

“Actually…you know who this girl is.” Paulo said quietly.

Ace raised a single brow at Paulo, questioningly. “I do?”

“Yeah.”

“Wait, who is she?”

Paulo hesitate for a little while before saying. “Princess Ballerina.”

????BALLERINA????

“MY PRINCESS,” Eva yelled loudly, barging inside Ballerina’s room without even knocking.

Ballerina jerked out of bed, worriedly alongside Heather.

They’ve been together talking about stuff and laughing about some things that are funny.

Ballerina really missed hanging out with Heather.

“What’s going on?” Ballerina asked.

Eva was breathing heavily. “You need to come downstairs, my princess. Jersey… Jersey, I don’t know what’s wrong with her but she seriously doesn’t look good….”

“What!?” Ballerina sprinted out of the room and hurriedly ran downstairs, pushing anyone that comes in her way.

All of the maids surrounded Jersey but that wasn’t what caught her attention… the fact that a particular maid was trying her best to help her pet dog out was what caught her attention.

“Chloe?”

Chloe looks up from the dog to Ballerina. “My princess.”

“What’s going on? What happened to her?”

“You don’t need to worry, my princess. It’s just that… she got choked but I’ve taken it out already…she will be fine.” She said to Ballerina, smiling.

A tear rolled down to Ballerina’s face as she stared down at her dog, it was breathing very fast.

She can’t believe she almost lost Jersey… the only she practically have aside from her maids and guards.

She really love Jersey. And if not because of Chloe, she would have lost her.

Ballerina suddenly pulled Chloe into a warm embrace.

“My princess…” Chloe was caught unaware with the reaction from the princess.

Ballerina let out a de-ep breath of relief, tightening her arms around Chloe. “Thank you, Chloe. I owe you one for this.”
