Two days Later
The previous day was really uneventful.

Nothing special happened.
Desmond left to work very early in the morning and returned late too after which he told Amanda that Henry is back to work but before that, Amanda have heard it alre-ady from Chioma who she spoke with.

Nothing again was said between them. Everyone retired to his and her room.
“”
But as Amanda was preparing Odeya’s breakfast and school lunch, Desmond walked in and she was quic-k to notice due to the sound of his fli-pflops.

She turned and greeted him “Goodmorning sir,”

“Thanks Amanda. plea-se I want a plate of that too,” he said.

Amanda was surprised. “You mean this spaghetti?”

“Yes.” Desmond answered.

‘Okay what the heck? He has never taken anything p@rt from tea in the morning, why is he wanting to eat spaghetti suddenly?’ Amanda wondered.

Yesterday, they really didn’t speak with each other like the last two nights.

It was stupid, but sincerely, she was hoping that he calls her out for another drink but last night, none of that happened.

“Okay sir,” she answered.

He walked to the refrigerator, opened it and took out a bottle of cold water and a drinking glas-s.
“For two months that I brou-ght Odeya to Nigeria, none of her nannies were able to stay more than a week with her. She was sas-sy and a bunch of complainer and insulter. I’m surprised about you Amanda,” he said and drank the water which he had poured into the glas-s cu-p.

Amanda couldn’t un-derstand why her heart skipped at that.

It felt like when your b©yfri£ndis praising you for being the best girlfriend in the world.

Amanda felt really excited but she had no idea what to say.

Thank goodness he spoke again..
“You’d make a good mom to your kids, your man would be very lucky to have you as his woman,” he told her and, it felt like a torture to her.

Why’s he telling her that.

Is he trying to pl@ywith her heart, mind, b©dy and soul?

But what Amanda didn’t notice was the smile on Desmond’s face as he left the kitchen.

She rushed to the door, peeped out to make sure he was really out. She walked back to the counter.

“Why is he telling me something like that?” she sighed.

*
Desmond walked back upstairs to prepare for work.

As he took his bathe, it was the best moment to think about his conversation with Henry yesterday.

«««««««
“I can’t believe I’m back here. It’s like a dream. I can’t imagine myself with you Desmond and without this company,” Henry said.

They were in his office.

“That’s okay. I can’t loose you because of the stupid thing I did. Like I told you yesterday, Really, it was my fault. If only I haven’t eaten those meals she brou-ght. I think it all began with them. But I’m grateful to God that it didn’t get to far to st©p,” Desmond said.

“Desmond, I hope you find a place in your heart to sincerely forgive her soon. She’s being cured right now but they said she’d nee-d your forgiveness to get fully okay,” Henry said.

“I pray that I do,” Desmond said and dropped a file in his hands.

“Here, help me to take the blue file to the manager and the green to the HR.”

“Alright sir,” Henry said then stood up to leave but got st©pped by Desmond.

“I think I’m in love,” Desmond said.

Henry turned with wi-de eyes.

“Really? Who’s the lucky girl?” he asked.

Desmond chuckled. “I don’t really know why I suddenly fell for her. But I noticed how sweet and beautiful she is. She’s natural, nice, un-derstanding and can change someone,” he said.

“Wow!” Henry exclaimed and walked back to the table. “Who’s she?”

“My daughter’s nanny, Amanda,” Desmond said.

Henry jaw dropped. “What? Tell me you are joking right now.”

Desmond exhaled. “I want to make her my wife. Such a person that was able to change my daughter in just a week. Such a person that was so damn bothered about Gold who wanted to make my house a living hell for her. I think she’s one of a kind. I’ve never met a lady like her,” he said.

Henry nodded. “Sincerely she is one of a kind. She calls my sister every day to ask about Gold and promised to do her best to make you change your mind. Sincerely, I think she deserves your love Desmond. She’s a good woman,” he said.

Desmond smiled. “But I think it’s too early to tell her about my feelings.”

“I don’t think she will refuse a man like you Desmond unless she has a fiancé,” Henry said.

“She has no fiancé and she won’t say ‘yes’ to my proposal,”

“Why?” Henry asked.

“Cos she won’t believe it’s possible. And again, she made a promise to my daughter to bring me and Vanessa back together. Funny right?” Desmond said.

“Really. Vanessa is married. I think it’s time you tell that to your daughter,” Henry said.

“I think so..”

“And tell Amanda about your feelings too. I believe she is a different woman, beautiful and endowed.”

Desmond smiled. “You can go now. We will talk after work,” he said.
“Alright,” Henry said and walked out.

“Argh I can’t believe it..” Henry muttered with an amazed smile.

After preparing and dressing up for work, Desmond went downstairs and as usual, met Odeya having her breakfast with Amanda next to her.

They both shared quic-k glance and Desmond settled down opposite Odeya.

Amanda prayed not to make eye contact with him.

She stood up “A minute sir,” she said and left.

Desmond inhaled
“Deya, how was your night?” he asked.

“It was fine, dad, and yours?”

“Fine as well.”

Amanda soon returned with Desmond’s meal in a tray. She carefully dropped it in front of him but as she was doing so, her arm brushed on his.

It was electrifying for the both.
Amanda quic-kly jumped back and both stared at each other in the eyes for few seconds then Amanda was the first to look away.

She left to the kitchen and rested her b-utt on the counter. She sighed and sl@pped her forehead.

“What’s this!?”
*
“She doesn’t look okay right, dad?” Odeya asked after Amanda hurried to the kitchen.

“Really?”

“Dad she likes you,” Odeya said causing Desmond to pause the meal he was chewing.

“But I told her you and mom is gonna be back soon,” she said.
Desmond sighed.

Amanda only returned when she heard Desmond leaving.

He was alre-ady at the exit door when she returned back to the dinning with Deya’s lunch box.

Desmond noticed it, turned and glanced at her before walking out.

“I thought maybe you sle-pt off in the kitchen,” Odeya said.

Amanda chuckled awkwardly, “of course not.”

“Okay, because of my daddy?” Deya asked.

“Huh?” Amanda raised her brows.
“I told him that you like him but he said nothing. It means that he doesn’t like you too,” Deya said.

Amanda felt hurt by that.

It’s just a talk from a little girl but she felt hurt by that.

That Desmond doesn’t like her.

Not wanting to think much about it, she quic-kly wore Deya her bag.
“Let’s go,” she said.

When Amanda returned from Odeya’s school. She got reckless.
She walked to and fro her room in thoughts.

“Is it really throu-gh that he doesn’t like me? If he doesn’t then why did he ask me if I want to marry him two nights ago?”

“Does he still love his ex wife and want her back?”

“What do I do, I’m going crazy?”

“I fell in love with him, I’m so stupid!”

“If only I never helped his mom, I wouldn’t be here now! No no, I can’t regret helping her, no!”

“What do I do about this!”

“He doesn’t like me.”

The time was exactly 3:30pm when Odeya saw her dad walk into their clas-s.

“Hello Mr Okoye, are you here to pick Odeya?” Mrs Tonia, their form teacher asked him.

“Yes I am,” he said.

“But I thought it’s her nannies that pick her up now,” Mrs Tonia said.
“I’m going home so I decided to pick her up. I’ve called her nanny she won’t be coming, come dear, let’s go,” he said.

Odeya stood up from her seat and walked to him.

“Dad, but what’s wrong with your voice and why ain’t you at work?” she asked.

“Oh, I had cough, let’s go,” he said and gr@bb£d her hand.

“Bye Deya,” her clas-smates said ad they left the clas-s.

A taxi was waiting for them.

“Dad, why a taxi and not your car?” Deya asked.

“My car suddenly got faulty. I will take you home and pick another one. Let’s go baby,” he said and Carrie her in. The door closed and the taxi man zoo me off.

Just as they were pas-sing the school gate, Peter and Amanda drove in and Odeya saw the car.

“Dad, but that’s my nanny. I thought you said you informed her not to come?” she asked.

He gave her a grinning smile that scared her.

“Do I really look like your dad?” he asked.

“You are not my dad? But you have his face, his b©dy and also wearing the suit he wore today,” she said.

“Kid, I’m not your dad. Now sleep awhile. You are going to meet your mother.” he said.

“My mother?” Odeya asked.

He didn’t answer but took out a handkerchief, pressed it on her nose and she fell asleep.

“Step on the g@s Don,” he said to the driver.

“Her dad took her?” Amanda asked for the second time as she stared at Mrs Tonia.

“Yes, it hasn’t been up to ten minutes that they left, but he did say that he told you about it,” Mrs Tonia said. Amanda g@sped.

“He didn’t. He didn’t tell me anything,” Amanda said and immediately took out her phone from her trou-ser pocket. Thank goodness she c@m£ with it. She made a call to him which went throu-gh and he picked up in one ring as if he WS expecting her call.

“Hello sir,” Amanda spoke first.

“Amanda,” he answered. There was this kind of softness in his voice but that isn’t the time for Amanda to notice.

“Sir, I’m in Deya’s school right now and I’m told that you alre-ady picked her,” she said.

“What!! Pick her? Why would I do that? Where’s my daughter?”

Amanda’s jaw dropped. Fear gr!pp£dher, she went numb as she stared at Mrs Tonia.

“What’s wrong?” Mrs Tonia asked.
“He he said he ne..never picked Odeya,” Amanda stuttered in fear.

“What? It was him. It was Mr Okoye.” Mrs Tonia said, then quic-kly took out her phone and made a call.

“Hello Mr Adam, plea-se come to my clas-s. There’s a problem.” she ended the call and looked at Amanda.

“It was really Odeya’s father. Look at that,” she said and pointed at a CCTV c@m£ra at the ceiling. “That’s a CCTV c@m£ra and it will be a proof to this. It was her dad who picked her up.”

Amanda was shaking with fear.

“What’s wrong sir?” Henry asked Desmond who was hurriedly picking pu-lling on his suit and taking his briefcase.

“I don’t wanna believe that my daughter is in danger.” Desmond said.

“What do you mean?” Henry asked.

“Someone picked my daughter from school. I don’t know how but that person claimed to be me. I gotta go,” Desmond said and rushed to the door, opening it, he turned to Henry who was exclaiming “Oh my God!”

“Don’t tell anyone about this. I have to go,” Desmond said and finally left.

“How on earth! What!?” Henry exclaimed.

slee-ping Odeya was carried in to a well and expensively furnished room that appeared like an exclusive h0tel room.

There was no b©dy in the room but as Rock dropped Deya on the be-d, the ensuite door opened and Vanessa walked out. Seeing Deya, she let out a wi-de smile.

“She has gotten dark and tiny. This isn’t my Deya.” she said then walked to her and t©uçhed her face. “But you never st©pped being beautiful Daughter. I know you’ve missed me so much. Don’t worry baby, mom is here to take you home. This country doesn’t suit you my baby.”

She looked at Rock and smiled. “Good job Rock. You should wait outside for me. I will take Care of this.”

“Okay” Rock said and left.

Vanessa turned back to Odeya and began c@r£ss!ngher hair.

“I missed you my little girl. Mom missed you. Your dad think he can take you away from me? He had no idea what I can do.”

*****************************************
After seeing the footage, Desmond turned to the Mrs Tonia and the head mistress of the school.

“Look here, my daughter had been kidnapped right before your eyes. I don’t care how it happened.. I want my daughter back right now” he said.

Amanda was in tears.

The head mistress was about to say something when Desmond’s phone rang. He didn’t hesitate to take it out from his pocket. It was a restricted number.

He glanced at everyone in there, including Amanda and Peter before picking up the phone and placing it on his right ear.

“Hello Mr Desmond Okoye,” Even in the next sixty years, Desmond can never forget the voice of Vanessa. It was her.

“Vanessa,” he called. Then it hit him. Why’s Vanessa suddenly calling him?

Do Odeya’s kidnap had to do with her?

“Don’t worry yourself and don’t bother telling the police. I got my daughter back. Ha ha it wasn’t so ha-rd tho. You should get another daughter soon. Odeya is mine alone. She’s still asleep. I know she’d be so happy to see me. I’m hanging up now, alright..bye”
“Vanessa, Vanessa! Where’s…” the call ended.

“What’s that sir?” Amanda asked.
Desmond sighed. “It’s not a kidnap. Don’t worry about this. I will take care of it,” he said to the school authorities then turned to Amanda. “Let’s leave.”

“What? It’s not a kidnap? The police would soon be here,” The head mistress said.

“Tell them it wasn’t a kidnap.” Desmond said.

“Then who took her?” she asked.
“Her mother,” Desmond said then turned and walked out. Amanda and Peter hurried up to meet his pace.

“Sir, it’s her mom?” she asked him.
“I just said so,” Desmond answered.

“What are you going to do sir?” Peter asked

“I will get back my daughter,” Desmond said then entered his car and drove off.

Amanda and Peter entered theirs and zoomed off.

******************************************
Odeya woke up and was confused on where she was then she saw her mom standing with a glas-s of wine in her hand.

“Mom!” she shouted.

Vanessa smiled. “My pretty baby. Mommy is here for you. Do you want some wine huh?”

Odeya sat up on the be-d and looked around. “Where I’m I mom? Where is dad and my nanny?” she asked.

Vanessa chuckled. “Do you nee-d to worry about them when your mom is here to take you with her?”

“Mom, are we in Canada?” Deya asked.

“Nope but we will be there by tomorrow, you have missed your home right?” she asked.

“How did I get here mom? Dad picked me up from school. How did I end up here?” Deya asked.

“You don’t have to think about it. You should be happy that you finally got to me dearie. Come on, you nee-d a shower and you nee-d to eat.” Vanessa said and went to the landline.

“Come over and bathe my daughter,” she said into the landline.

“Mom where are we? Why ain’t we at dad’s house? Where is this?” Deya asked.

“Deya, I have nothing to do with your father. I am here to take you with me. So don’t talk about your father” Vanessa said.

“Mom if dad is not going with us then I’m not going with you,” Deya said.

Vanessa smashed the glas-s of wine on the wall angrily and it shattered.

Deya wasn’t scared by that. It was what her mom always do.

“I told you not to talk about your father!”

“Why mom?”

“Because you have a new father.”
“A new father?”

******************************************
Desmond, Amanda and Peter were back but only Amanda and Desmond were inside the house. Desmond told Peter to go home.

Inside the sitting room, Desmond was seen pacing up and down, in thoughts with his phone ti-ght in his hand. Amanda is only a few step away, standing still with her eyes on him. He told her not to say anything but she can’t help it.

Did his ex wife really kidnap her own daughter? That’s unbelievable.

Desmond after thinking for awhile put a call throu-gh to Vanessa who picked up after few rings.

“Hello Mr Desmond Okoye,” she spoke first in a very mocking way.

“Vanessa, I want to see my daughter. Where the hell did you take her to? How were you able to deceive my smart Odeya?” he asked.

Vanessa laughed ha-rd . “She’s my daughter. Do I nee-d to deceive her? That’s funny.”

“Before I get the police involved in this, bring me back my daughter before today ends.

“Dad!” Desmond heard Odeya’s voice and screamed. “Deya! I promise to come get you OK?”

“Dad, I can’t have another dad but you right?” Deya asked.

Desmond sighed. “Yes you are right dear.”

“Dad, I’m not going to leave without you and my nanny,” she said.

“Shut your mouth Deya.. Who’s the damn nanny you’ve been mentioning?” Vanessa hurled at Deya.

“Vanessa!” Desmond shouted throu-gh the phone.

“I have no business with you anymore Desmond. I’m taking my daughter with me. Well you can call on the police if you want. Goodbye!” Vanessa said and hung up. She looked at Deya for a moment and smiled.

“Don’t you dare think or talk about your father when I’m here,” she said.

“Why shouldn’t I?” Deya asked.
“You’ve changed a bit daughter. This new character doesn’t fit you as my daughter. Have you forgotten all that I thought you?” Vanessa asked.

Deya didn’t answer.

The door opened and a lady walked in..

“Sorry ma’am that I took some time. Her food would be brou-ght in the next three minutes,” she apologized to Vanessa.

She went over and tried carrying Deya but Deya beat off her hands.
“Get your hands off me”

“What Odeya, don’t you wanna have a bathe?” Vanessa asked.
“Bathe me then,” Deya said.

The lady tried carrying her again but she beat off her hands again.
“I mean you, mom… Bathe me”
Vanessa raised her brow. “What nons-en-se Deya? I’ve never bathe you, you know that.” she said.

“Then take me back, I have to say goodbye to Jeremy and bring dad and my nanny along.” Deya said.
“You aren’t seeing your father again cos you have a new father.” Vanessa said.

“Then I won’t go with you because I can’t have a new father. I only have one dad.” Deya said.

Vanessa glanced at the lady who’s face was down.

*****************************************
(Few hours later )
Desmond have been in his room for five hours. Amanda had prepared his dinner.

She served them on the dinning then went upstairs to call him.
After breathing in and out, she gently knocked on the door, knocked again and slowly opened the door.

She walked in and saw Desmond sitting at the edge of the be-d with his phone in his hand.

“Sir, dinner is re-ady,” she said.
“Okay.. I’m coming,” he muttered without turning.

Amanda stood there staring at him. He said nothing and let her stare at him as long as she want.
The she asked. “Sir, you shouldn’t think too much. She’s her mother and won’t harm her.”

“Vanessa is harmful. My daughter can not live with her. I tried so ha-rd to get Odeya from her. Why do you think I did so?” Desmond said.

“I don’t think getting the police involved will be of any help. I suggest, you meet with her and talk things out. Odeya must be very happy to see her mother after three months. She had always wanted to see her mom and go back with her. If it’d make her happy, then let her.” Amanda said.

Desmond turned and looked at her.

They stared at each other’s eyes.
“What do you mean Amanda?” he asked.

“I..I mean, you should make up with your ex wife, for Odeya’s sake,” Amanda said.

“Don’t talk nons-en-se Amanda,” he said.

Amanda inhaled.

He stood up and walk to her. Amanda faced down but he put his hand on her jaw and brou-ght her face up.

Her heart beat raised.

Their face c@m£ so close to each other.

“Don’t you ever think of becoming Deya’s mom someday?” he asked.
Amanda could hear her heart beat.

“Even after knowing why you were given this job, why do you still talk nons-en-se?” he asked.

Amanda felt goosebu-mps on her skin.

He re-moved his hand from her jaw, exhaled and walked out of the room, leaving Amanda in a confused state.
