About ten minutes later after Desmond left to downstairs, Amanda walked down few blocks of the staircase, to check what he was doing and when she saw he was picking on his meal, she stood there staring at him for a brief moment before walking back, to her be-droom.

Entering her room, she picked her phone and made a call to her mom. Her mom picked up after few rings.

“Hello daughter, how is everything going?” Her mom asked.

“Not fine mama..” she then made her voice as low, “Odeya was kidnapped this afternoon by her mom. It still baffles me.”

“Chineke mo! Isi gini? – What did you say?” Her mom exclaimed.
“I’m relieved its her mom. I was so scared.” Amanda said.

“Madam Monica haven’t heard about this?” Her mom asked.

“He doesn’t want to tell her yet. Mama you must not tell her yet biko. He’s trying his best to get Odeya before her mother takes her out of the country but he don’t want to let lady Monica know about it. He think it’s going to break her down.” Amanda said.

“It’s okay. I’ve heard. But What sort of a mother would kidnap her own child. Is this what they do over there eh?”

“Mama.. Tell me, what can I do in this kind of situation. I want to be of help but I can’t believe I ended up suggesting nonense.” Amanda said.

“What do you think you can do my daughter. Just stay by his side. Stand by him and don’t let him fight it alone, inugo. Help him to get his daughter back. That’s what you have to do.” Mama said.

Amanda sighed. “Okay mama, I will.”

“Do you love him?” Mama asked.
Amanda looked at her f!ngersshyly and answered “yes mama, I do”

“That’s good. What about him ehn. Any sign?”

Amanda breathed out.. “Mama, I think he likes me too.”

“Not like but love. Osim Like, which kind like. He loves you eh?”
“It makes me speechless mama,” Amanda said.

She heard her mother’s exciting laughter which st©pped just immediately. “Oh I shouldn’t be laughing when my step granddaughter is in danger.” she said.

Amanda sighed. “Mama, let’s talk tomorrow.”

“Where is he now, Desmond?” Mama asked.

“He’s eating downstairs but he isn’t really eating.” Amanda answered.

“And where are you?”

“In my room Mama..”

“Doing what? Ngwa pua je kwuru ya -Go out, Go to him now.” Mama ordered.

“Mama..”

“Go go go… He nee-ds you. I’m dropping the call. Don’t call me again this night.” Mama said.
“Mama wait..” Amanda called but the line had dropped alre-ady. She sighed.

“Mama… you are unbelievable..” she muttered and walked to the door.

Opening it, she flin-ched on seeing Desmond standing by her door.
He had two beer cans in his hands.

Stretching one to her, he said, “Let’s have just one.”

Amanda shook her head, “Not again sir,”

“Should we go out then or something?” he asked.

Amanda raised her brows, “huh?”
He chuckled. “Does it look too tense tonight? A lot of things been happening.” he said and walked into Amanda’s room.

In her room?

Okay, Amanda then noticed he reck of alcohol. He had drank before bringing those.

He settled on her be-d and opened one of the beer.

“Sir, you you shouldn’t be here, I mean in my room.” Amanda said and wiped the little sweat that had formed on her forehead. “And you have been drinking” she added.

“Don’t worry, I won’t hurt my hand this time,” he said and took a sip. “Come have a seat, don’t stand there like some soldier.” he said to her.

Amanda inhaled. ‘He’s sitting on my be-d when there’s a chair there. Oh I’m so tensed.’

She slowly walked to the chair close to the dressing table and sat down.

“That’s your drink.” he said.

She shook her head. “No sir, I’m fine.”

He shrugged.

There c@m£ a pretty long silence before Amanda decided to break it.

“About Odeya..”

But Desmond cut her short. “About her, she can take her if she want.”
Amanda raised her brows. “What? You mean Vanessa, sorry, I mean her mom?”

“What are you sorry about? Her name is Vanessa. Deya had wanted to go back to her. Now she have the chance to. I should let her.” he said.

Amanda stood up. “Sir, you can’t let her. You are only saying this cos you are drun!k. St©p drinking plea-se” she gr@bb£d the beer from him but unfortunately, it poured on his white shi-t.

Amanda g@sped. “Oh my God, I’m so sorry sir” she said and without thinking, gr@bb£d her duvet and began wiping it on the sp©t but her hand was gr@bb£d by Desmond’s who chuckled and said, “you are only ma-king it worse. Don’t worry about this, but worry about this” he placed her hand on his left che-st.

Amanda’s heart raised. “Sir?”

“Don’t you feel anything? Don’t you feel my beating heart. Don’t you feel anything at all Amanda?” he asked.

Amanda swallowed ha-rd . “S sir.. I don’t un-derstand.. plea-se can can you let go of my hand.”

“What did you say? Your husband is holding your hand and you’re telling him to let go?” he asked.
‘My husband? No, he’s just drun!k’ Amanda said within.

“I’m sorry I have to take my hand,” she said and f0rç£fully took it, but Desmond gr@bb£d it again causing her to fall on him and him on the be-d. Only a moment of eye to eye stare and Desmondl-ips was on hers.

Every thought was lost for a moment before Amanda got back to her s-en-ses and quic-kly jacks herself off him and rushed to the ensuite, ban-ging the door close.
She had just been k!$$£d by Desmond.

She fell back on the door and shut her eyes.

‘Oh my God.. What just happened. What do I do?’

She t©uçhed herl-ips.

‘He really k!$$£d me! he did..oh my god’

Her heart was beating fast and loud that she could hear it.

She felt goosebu-mps on her skin.
She was sweating too.

“I.. I am sorry Amanda, I shouldn’t have done that. I know I’m drun!k,forgive me.” she heard him say from her room.

She shut her eyes ti-ghter.

Then she heard the door open and close.

He left.

She breathed out and slowly opened her eyes, gr-abbing the doorknob, she opened the bathroom door and slowly walked out to the be-droom. He left with the cans.
She wiped her face with her two hands and exhaled.

“He k!$$£d me, he really did.” she muttered and found her self smile.

Soon she was slowly walking to the exit door. Getting there, She gr@bb£d the doorknob and slowly opened it to peep out but there was Desmond, standing by the door.

He had been standing there.
Both stared at each other.

They could feel the heat of their love for each other.

Desmond glanced at the beer cans in his hands then back to her. “I’m sorry for k!ss!ngyou Amanda. I was drun!kand I still am.” he said.
Amanda took a step.

“But I can’t help it Amanda, I think I’m…no..” he paused and shook his head.

Amanda took another step.

He breathed out”..I I’m in love with you Amanda. ”

Amanda took the last step which was the last and which got her very close to Desmond. Without a saying a word, she stood on her toes, wra-pped her arm around his n£¢k and placed herl-ips on his. He k!$$£d back without hesitation.

This time around, it was beautiful.

Desmond wra-pped his own arms around her slim w@!st, careful not to get down to the h!ps yet.

Even though he smelt of alcohol, Amanda didn’t care.

All she cared for was the beautiful k!ss. The k!sswhich is about to change a lot of things.

A k!sswhich she had yawned for so long.

None wanted to st©p this k!ssbut they eventually did and when they did, both began laughing.

What was even funny?

“Why are you laughing?” Amanda was the first to ask.

“But you are too.” Desmond said.
Amanda covered herl-ips with her hand and shyly turned away.

But she wasn’t shy few minutes ago, what suddenly happened again?

Desmond smiled.

“I noticed that you love late night movies, should we watch one?” Desmond asked.
Amanda remembered Odeya.

“Odeya..” she said.

“She’s fine wherever she is right now.. Trust me on that Amanda. And didn’t you tell me not to worry too much that Odeya would come back?” Desmond said.

“I’m worried..” Amanda said.

Desmond took her hand and turned her over to face him.

“Let’s watch movies or do you prefer we go out or something?” he asked.

Amanda chuckled. “It’s late.”

Desmond smiled.

**
Both held hands as they walked down the staircase to the sitting room. Amanda saw that Desmond didn’t eat anything from his food.
“I had no appetite then” he said.
“Me too,” Amanda said.

Both sat down on a three sitter couch and settled for a Nollywood movie.

“You like nollywood?” he asked her.

“Yeah, but only the interesting movies.” she answered.

He smiled and the next thing, he la-id his head on her th!ghs.

“I might fall asleep soon,” he said but he never did until the movie got over. It was such an interesting one and filled with comedy.

The time was past one.

Desmond looked at Amanda. “Wanna sleep?” he asked.

“I..I don’t really know. I’m not sleepy.”

“I am,” he said and got up. “Let’s go to be-d” he said and dragged her up.

They went upstairs holding hands and when he got to his door, he refused letting go of her hand.

“Goodnight s sir” Amanda said.
“Don’t call me that from onwards. You can start by calling me honey” Desmond said.

Amanda looked away shyly.

He placed his hand on her jaw and raised her face.

“Let’s go on a d@t£ soon, I love you Amanda,” he said and k!$$£d her. “Goodnight darling.” he said.

Amanda could ha-rd ly breathe.

When she finally entered her room, she let it all out. All the times she had held her breathe.

“I can’t believe this,” she said and coll@psed on her be-d.

***********
As Desmond was about to l@ydown, his phone rang. It was Vanessa.

He picked up.

“Hello Ex husband.” she spoke first.

“How’s my daughter?” Desmond asked.

“She’s at the right place.. Just the right place. I am her mother, you cant distance me from my child. I had to do anything to bring her to me.” she said.

“Then can I ask you for a Favour?” he said

“What favour?” she asked.

“Take care of her and if she ever cry of wanting to come back, bring her back.” he said.

“She can’t do that. She knows I’m the one she deserve to grow up with, not you.”

“Let me talk to my daughter in the morning. Bye”

Desmond said
*
“I missed you Desmond.” she said but the call had ended alre-ady.
She dropped the phone and sipped from her wine then turning to the slee-ping Odeya, she said. “I don’t know why but I’m suddenly remembering our moments together, your father and I.”

Amanda woke up with half a smiling face and half a sad face. It felt like living in two different worlds at the same time.

One, she was happy that Desmond confessed his love for her, on the other hand she was sad that Odeya is somewhere else.

She miss her.

As she brushed her teeth, she wouldn’t st©p thinking about the k!ss. She had a night filled with dreamful sleep. Dreams about Desmond and her.

‘I wish I could st©p thinking for a moment’ she told herself but alas, the next minute she is recalling and reminiscing again.

She washed her mouth and face, wiped off and walked out of the bathroom.

Her phone began ringing and she went for it and a hiss escaped herl-ips as she saw the caller. ‘ekene’
She ignored the call and looked at herself on the full length mirror. She noticed that her pajamas was getting worn out.

“I have to buy a new one.. And what’s this sp©t on my face. Why now?” she unpacked her hair and repacked it.

It was at that moment that she saw her erected n***les visible on the night go-wn.

She quic-kly gr@bb£d a br@, re-moved the night go-wn, wore the br@ and changed into a green jogger and a grey polo shi-t. She was scared to look S-xy in front of him.

gr-abbing her phone and throwing it into the jogger pocket, she headed to the door.

On opening the door, she met Desmond standing at the door, on his slee-ping wear.

Amanda wasn’t expecting that causing her to wi-den her eyes.
“S..sir” she stammered. Her heart beat raising instantly and a bu-tterfly feeling in her stomach.

Desmond ru-bbe-d his n£¢k like someone who had been tired from standing for too long.

“You always woke up earlier than this time, right? what happened today?” he asked.

Amanda opened her mouth without knowing what to answer.

She quic-kly turned and checked the wall clock in her room. It was 6:03am.

She turned back to Desmond who was now smiling at her.

“I..I ” she had no idea what to answer, worse they were staring at each others eyes. Amanda quic-kly looked down and greeted. “Good morning sir”

“How was your night Amanda?” Desmond asked, looking at her keenly.

“It was okay sir…and yours?” she asked.

“I had a lot of sleep. I shouldn’t have right?” he asked.

Amanda looked up at him”sir?”
“Will you st©p calling me sir?” he said.

She looked away shyly and said, “It won’t be easy”

“It is very easy..” Desmond said then after a second silence, said, “you look great. Had no idea green and grey could fit so perfectly.”

Amanda couldn’t explain how she felt at that moment. It was such a simple way of saying to her, you look beautiful even in such dressing.

She couldn’t help the smile that showed up on her face which Desmond saw too.

He took her hands. “Let me take you somewhere today”

She turned to him. “Ain’t you going to work?”

“I’m sorry I have to but I’m gonna be back as early as 12pm. I have something to tell you too.”

“What’s that?” Amanda asked.
“Vanessa and I spoke again last night. She gave me an address of where to meet her. I’m going there after getting to the office. I’m just gonna talk about my daughter with her then come back for you. If I bring Odeya with me, fine and if I don’t. She would take care of her.” Desmond said.

Amanda after a while nodded. “Alright. I’ll be here waiting.” she said.

Desmond smiled and k!$$£d her. Withdrawing he re-leased her hands which he had been holding.
“I just nee-d my usual breakfast.” he said.

Amanda nodded. “Okay sir…oh,”
Desmond chuckled then k!$$£d her on the cheek. “I’m going to take a shower. Wanna join?” he asked.

Amanda looked away shyly, with a smile.

Desmond smiled and went into his room. Once he did, Amanda’s phone began ringing again. She wanted to ignore it, with thought it would be Ekene but then took it out and saw it was her mom calling.

She inhaled, exhaled and picked up. Placing it on her ear she said. “Mama, I’m going to call you back.” and without waiting for her mom to talk, she ended the call, dropped the phone back in her pocket and headed to Desmond’s room.

Mama Amanda stared at her phone for awhile then turned to Ekene who was standing, vexed up.

“You have seen it now ehn. I have called her and she said she would call me back. My daughter is very very busy now and don’t have time talk more of a time for someone like you. A neighbour named Mommy Dera c@m£ out from her ap@rtment.
“Mama Amanda, is this boy still coming here?” she asked.

“Yes o. there’s no way I haven’t told this boy to stay clear off my door and my daughter. Thank God for where she is now.”

“Next time he comes, make sure you teach him a lesson. Get him arrested.” Mommy Dera said.

“Hia.. Arrest. Arrest that even me will pay. Na all this boys I go call to deal with him.”

Mommy Dera bur-sted into laughter. “Ah mama Amanda. Is it not just small money that you will just give them to arrest him and let him stay in the cell for awhile”
“Don’t even say that. If is Ekene, Cell is another of his home.”
Mama said and both bur-sted into laughter.

“But anyway, your daughter. How is she? Hope you do hear from her?” Mommy Dera asked after laughing to her fill.

“Yes o. She said she will call me back sef. I’m waiting for her call.” Mama said.

“Biko if she call, give me phone to say hi.”

“Are you not going to work today?”
“No i’m not. Let’s rest today biko.

“Abi, na true my sister.”

(Desmond residence)

Desmond walked out of the ensuite and was surprised on what he saw on his be-d.

A black suite and trou-ser l@yon the be-d. A white shi-t. A black with white str!pe tie. His black shoes, all out.

Who could have done this but Amanda.

Desmond was too overwhelmed not to smile wi-dely.

It was such a sweet sight.

Who had ever done this for him except his mom when he was still in secondary school. She’d iron his school uniforms herself and l@yit out for him on his be-d.

He walked over and picked up the shi-t.

“Like she knew I was going to wear this. How did she know?” he asked himself. Smiling, he dropped it and took his phone. Dialed her line and it rang.

^•
Amanda was cleaning the kitchen when her phone rang. This time around she thought it was her mom calling again but when she took it out, she smiled when she saw it was Desmond calling.

“Why is he calling me when we are still in the same house. This is what living in a mansion causes.” she muttered as she picked it up and placed it on her ear.

“Hello si…” she paused. She almost said ‘sir’

“Amanda, I just saw you come into my room without my permission and then you t©uçhed my wardeobe without my permission too. What do you want your punishment to be?” he asked.
Amanda inhaled.. She knew he wasn’t upset with the way his voice sounded.

“I’m sorry. I thought you’d be at the office fas-ter if I help with that.” She said.

There was a little silence before he broke it. “You make my heart flvster Amanda. I thought it’d be a crime for a woman to make my heart flvster again but I found out that it only depends on the kind of woman I fall in love with for the second time. I believe it wasn’t a crime for Desmond Okoye to fall in love with Chimamanda Ekeh in only but few days. I do watch such in movies and ha-rd ly believes such could happen in the real world. Amanda I believe you were meant for me even before we met. I believe you are the woman I’m supposed to marry. I’m gonna marry you Amanda and no time will be wasted.”

Amanda placed her hand on her mouth.. She felt tears in her mouth and she was afraid to bur-st into a cry.

Even though it was only but a few words, it was really tou-ching and beautiful to her.

“Hey you can’t say, yes, I will marry you?” Desmond joked after waiting for awhile and no response was coming. Though that wasn’t the response he was expecting.

Amanda was about to say something when he cut in. “..Do you know how to fix a tie, if you do, come upstairs to my room.”
No response. Amanda’s tears were pouring.

“Did you hear me? Did I say something wrong?” Desmond asked, getting frightened. He would run downstairs in the next second.

Amanda shook her head as if he’s seeing her do that. “No..no sir..I mean.. I do. I’ll be there in a minute” she managed to say amidst tears then ended the call.

Desmond stared at his phone screen like he would get the answer of why the change in her voice from there.

“Was she crying?” he asked himself.

•^•• He had put on the trou-ser, shi-t, and was on the his shoes when a knock c@m£ on the door.
“Come in Amanda.” he said.
The door opened and she gently walked in. Her face had been thor0ûghly wiped but her eyes were still a bit red.

“That was a lot of time. I might end of being late at work while waiting for you.” he joked.

“I’m sorry..” she said.

“I didn’t say that for you to tell me sorry.” he said.

He stood up. “Here, help me plea-se” he said stretching the tie to her. She collected it and stepped closer to him. But it was still a bit far. Desmond’s hand went behind her and he pu-ll-ed her almost into him..

Amanda looked at him and he smiled.

She put the tie around his n£¢k and began to fix it. Desmond’s eyes were on her eyes, nose,l-ips, hair as he admired her beautiful face.

Amanda finished up in a minute.
“Done,” she said and tried to step back but Desmond gr@bb£d her from behind and pu-ll-ed her into him.

Then joined his other hand too.

“Thank you Amanda.” he said.

Amanda couldn’t breath.

“I love you so much Amanda. Thank you for coming into my life.” he said then re-leased the hvg and k!$$£d her forehead.

“Let’s go have breakfast.” he said.
Amanda carried his briefcase and they went downstairs holding hands.

They had breakfast of tea and bu-ttered bre-ad together.

Then Amanda gave him his briefcase at the door and he k!$$£d her on thel-ips.

“I will be back soon.” he said and left.

Amanda watched him from the window, as he entered his car and drove out.

I.K locked the gate and began coming towards the house.

“I.K and his trouble.” Amanda said then exhaled. “I miss Deya.”

“Deya, after I meet with your dad today. I’m leaving with you tomorrow. I know you can’t wait to see granny and granpa. They miss you. Your new dad is waiting anxiously to see you too. Get prepared and be happy my baby.” Vanessa said to Odeya who was eating.

Suddenly Odeya threw the plate of food away. “I don’t nee-d a new dad. Take me back to my dad. I don’t wanna go with you again. I’ve made a lot of friends here and they are all nice to me. I don’t wanna go away from Jeremy, from my dad and from my nanny. I can’t go with you to a new daddy. Take me back to my dad now mom.”

Vanessa bur-sted into an annoying laughter.

“Look at my little child talking. You are so bold to talk to me this way honey. You can’t talk this way to me. I can’t take you back to your dad dear. I am your mom who you should be with. I had you in my tummy, I gave birth to you and it was a hell of a pain there in the labour room. You are to grow up un-der my care, you get that?” Vanessa said and gr@bb£d the landline.

“Get here, Deya made some mess.”
Odeya bur-sted into a loud cry.

“I can never leave with you again mom!”

“Then you can’t leave with your dad too!” Vanessa said.

“I will! Dad is a million times better than you!” Odeya said.
“shut your little mouth!” Vanessa said and snatched the glas-s of wine which she held.

Odeya looked at where the glas-s was shattered then stood up and began going there.

“What are you doing, where are you going Odeya? Don’t go there, you will get hurt.” Vanessa said but Odeya was there alre-ady and without hesitating, she matched on the sharp glas-ses and screamed out.

(Hours later, at Queencare Hospital )

Desmond and Vanessa both stared at their selves for what seem like ages then Desmond broke the silence.

“Where’s my daughter?”

“She is my daughter.” Vanessa said.

“Where is my Odeya?” Desmond asked.

“She’s my Odeya. I gave her that name.” Vanessa threw back.

“Why here instead of where my daughter is supposed to be??” Desmond asked.

“My daughter got hurt, that’s the a reason for her being here.” Vanessa said.

“What right do you have to call her your daughter?” Desmond asked.

“Cos she is my daughter and I am her mother.” Vanessa said.

“You ba-rely gave birth to her when I caught you with another man who you were giving your whole self to like a S-x machine.” Desmond said.

“So fv¢king what? I’m married now but you ain’t. I’m fv¢king better than you.” she said.

“Leave Nigeria and never step a foot in this country again. You said this country doesn’t suit you, it should never. Go live with your husband and get another daughter if you want..” he said.

Vanessa chuckled.

“Let’s talk somewhere else.” Vanessa said.

“I’m taking my daughter.” Desmond said.

“Yeah you can. She doesn’t want me anymore anyway. I believe I was the worse wife and mother on earth.” Vanessa said.

“I never thought you’d accept so soon. I hope you go back and make your husband more happy.” Desmond said.

“He’s a cheat. He cheats on me every single day.” Vanessa said.
Desmond stared at her for awhile then exhaled.

“You can’t have odeya back. So don’t even have the thought about me Vanessa. I have someone I so much love and she mean the world to me.” Desmond said.
