Words couldn’t describe the pain Andres felt. His world crumbled and he could hear the loud shattering of his silent heart. He drew back despite her protest and soon she was back to sleep. Andres stared at Miranda for a while before he walked into the bathroom to shower. A cold bathe was what he nee-ded to calm down.
After showering, he returned to the be-droom and wore his pajamas. He wasn’t going to share the be-d with Miranda. He feared she would call his name.
If he heard that name again that same night, he was likely to go on finding Erad himself.
Andres gr@bb£d a pillow and blankets and headed for the living room. So much for choosing a house with only one room.
slee-ping on the couch couldn’t erase the pain Andres felt that night. The truth dawned on him the ha-rd way.
Miranda didn’t love him and no matter how caring he was, she would never love him.
It was a bitter truth and he had to live with it. He couldn’t f0rç£ her feelings and all he wanted to do was run away. Maybe that was the only option.
He thought as he la-id wi-de awake.

Andres stood on the balcony staring into space. He was wearing a pair of jeans and t©p with a glas-s of wine in his hand as he waited for Daniel. It was the first time Daniel would be visiting. Daniel arrived shortly and Tina led him to meet Andres.
“Hey!” Daniel called as he approached Andres
Andres turned and moved to a chair “it took you forever to come” he said and sat down
Daniel sat down too “You don’t look like Andres.. You look….” he groped for the right word
“Like trash” Andres completed
“exactly”
Andres sighed “It’s Miranda”
“what did she do this time?”
“She’s not waking up”
Daniel g@sped “is she dead? Was she sick? How did it happen?”
“she’s not dead and she wasn’t sick” Andres replied “Lisette drugged her at a p@rty last night and the Doctor said the drug was too toxic and the quantity added to her drink so much.. She won’t be waking up in days– if she ever wakes up though”
“Where is she now?”
“in the be-droom”
“you should take her to the hospital so the doctors can keep a close eye on her”
“I’m trying to avoid more scandals” Andres downed his drink and filled the glas-s again
“what if she doesn’t wake up?”
“Miranda can’t die.. She won’t die until she finally kills me”
Daniel saw the hurt in Andres eyes when he spoke about Miranda. He knew Andres worried about his wife but the hurt in his eyes weren’t just worries, something was definitely bothering him.
“That’s not all is it?” Daniel pressed on
Andres sighed loudly “I feel like crying like a baby right now”
“What happened?”
“I tried ma-king love to my wife last night and guess what happened?”
“she cut off your ba-lls in her drun!ken state?”
Andres sh0t his friend a glare “be serious mehn”
“Alright I’m sorry.. What happened?”
“Miranda m0@n ed Erad’s name. Begging him not to go that she wanted him. Miranda never m0@n ed my name ever in our love ma-king.. All these while, I loved her but she never forgot him.
I don’t care what they shared but where is he now? Gone, leaving every memory of him behind, haunting my marriage and ma-king it impossible for Miranda to love me” Andres was yelling bitterly
Daniel was dumbfounded. Andres’ eyes were now reflecting anger and hurt and pain. But he had nothing to tell his friend. If Miranda could still have Erad in her mind in such state, then what they shared was strong.
“You should talk to her when she wakes up”
Andres sighed in frustration “Miranda would never talk. She’ll rather do it more often to make sure I get frustrated and return her but I’m never going to do that. Miranda is mine”
“Then what do you plan on doing because I have no idea on this one”
“I’ll give her what she wants”
“How?”
Andres looked at his friend “she wants me out of her life, she doesn’t want to see me around her and that’s what she’ll get. I can’t risk staying with her and going crazy knowing she loves someone else. It kills me inside”
“Andres I’m sorry you have to be going throu-gh all these” Daniel’s voice was low and soothing “you’re a good man and you deserve better”
Andres opened his mouth to talk but just sighed and said nothing.
“What are you going to do to Lisette?” Daniel asked
“I’ll deal with her.. She can’t go scot free” Andres seethed “what if that man had succeeded? And if Miranda hadn’t been drun!kshe wouldn’t have mentioned his name”
“and she’s lying in there and we’re not sure if she’s going to wake up or not” Daniel added
“what’s the best punishment for her?” Andres asked
“I’ll think of something but for now, let’s talk about your wife”

LATER IN THE NIGHT 🌃
Andres sat on the be-d and watched Miranda sleep. He had changed her night go-wn and wore her a new one. She looked beautiful slee-ping, he had never really watched her sleep before.
He held her palm in his and ca-ressed her. A p@rt of him was scared. She wasn’t moving a f!nger but the doctor said she would be fine.
He t©uçhed her full redl-ips and smiled when he remembered how she used to pout them when she was angry. He loved thosel-ips and he loved k!ss!ngthem. He still couldn’t believe those samel-ips had uttered a word that s£nt his entire universe crumbling.
Andres leaned forward and k!$$£d her forehead then left the room. He enjoyed the discomfort of slee-ping on the sofa. It was better than slee-ping next to a woman that didn’t want him.

THE NEXT DAY ☀
Miranda kept her eyes closed even though she had woken up at least twenty minutes ago. She felt numb and tired like she had been beaten up. She tossed the sheets aside and sat up in be-d. She was wearing a lacy nightie and she was sure she hadn’t chos£n that night dress or put it on unless someone did.
Miranda thought of the last thing she could remember and g@sped.
Lisette had drugged her and she could remember her saying she would be in the next room with a man.
Miranda’s heart started a crazy beat as she stared at the new night go-wn and the room she was in. It was actually her room, then why couldn’t she remember anything after Lisette and the drink.
She heard footsteps approach the room and the door opened. Andres walked in with one hand in his pocket and the other was holding the door handle. He shut the door and leaned on the doorframe.
“you’re awake” he said casually. He was excited but he couldn’t let it show
“what happened?” Miranda asked
“Lisette drugged you and you were almost R@p£d but I was there to save you in time”
“How did I get into this?” she pu-ll-ed on the night go-wn
“I changed you.. Surely you didn’t expect to wear a torn dress for the past two days”
“Two days? I’ve been slee-ping for two days?”
“I brou-ght you home and called in a doctor. He said the substance added to your drink was toxic and it was added in large quantity.. You couldn’t even move a f!nger. I’m surprised you’re awake now cause he said you won’t be waking up for days”
Miranda breathed out in relief. Thank God Andres c@m£ to her rescue before Lisette succeeded.
She looked at Andres who had his eyes fixed on her. There was something about the way he looked at her.
Had she done or said something stupid while she was slee-ping?
She doubted the possibility. Andres said she couldn’t move a f!nger.
“Why are you looking at me that way?” she managed to ask “did I say or do something crazy while I was slee-ping?”
Andres said nothing. Just stared at her. The pool of his dark eyes made Miranda svçkin a breath. They stared at each other in silence and Miranda had no idea what was going throu-gh his mind. But the stare brou-ght back little memories. She recalled everything that happened and her heart skipped a beat.
Maybe it didn’t really happen.
Maybe it was all a dream.
Or had she really m0@n ed out Erad’s name?
“You don’t remember anything?” Andres’ voice snapped her out of her thought. Rich, intoxicating tones that s£nt shivers down her spine.
Miranda swallowed a lump that swelled up in her throat “I don’t think I remember anything”
“Miranda I’m sorry—” Andres was saying “I’m sorry for being such a j£rk, for forcing you to love me, forcing you against you own will.. I’m truly sorry.
I was blinded and trying to lie to myself that I could make you love me but that’s a lie. We can’t f0rç£ the heart, you have every right to love anyone you want.. I never realized that until two nights ago– you know what I’m talking about”
Miranda su-cked in a breath and said nothing. She couldn’t deny she knew what he meant but she just couldn’t say anything about it.
What was he going to say?
“Tradition took away the joy of falling in love and marrying someone we choose from us but I’m re-ady to give you that joy again”
“Andres we can talk about this” her voice was shaky and didn’t come out clear
“I’ll do exactly what you asked for when we first got married” he went on “you wanted us to live together but not as a couple.. You wanted us to go on freely and find someone else.. I’ll do that for you now”
“Andres—
“I can’t f0rç£ you Miranda and I can’t risk my own feelings. Let’s just say this wasn’t what we wanted” he said “you can have the house to yourself, I alre-ady moved out yesterday. Tina will move in with you, I can get Taylor if you want. I’ll always drop by to visit but not as your dingbat husband…”
“Andres—
“call me if you nee-d anything.. I’ll still see to all your nee-ds, everything you nee-d”
And by everything, he meant Erad.. If she still wanted him for real.
“Andres—
Andres pinned her with a ha-rd , dark glance “You don’t have to worry, I won’t be bothering you anymore. Just call me when you’re in nee-d if ANYTHING. If you can’t call me then Tina should call, I’ll see to your comfort, we can always be friends”
“Andres plea-se” she had no idea what she was begging for. Andres was giving her all she ever wanted.
His ha-rd look softened, his dark eyes almost ca-ress.
“None of these would change my feelings for you Miranda.. I’ll always love you, you just have to decide if you’re really sure you like slee-ping alone” he said and started for the door
Miranda’s throat constricted “Andres—
His hand froze an the knob, but he didn’t look back. Instead, he pu-ll-ed opened the door and stepped out. With measure care, he closed the door behind him.
