Chapter 19

In clas-s, I didn’t see Lily. I only saw Vin. When I asked,, where she was. He replied, he didn’t know.
I decided to see her later in the evening. It was so unusual for her to miss clas-s.
After lectures for that day, I went to my hostel. I saw Julie re-ading a novel, in the room.
“Hey,, Julie… I’m back” I said.
She didn’t look at me. She simply nodded.
“What’s wrong Julie,, you have been avoiding me since Saturday afternoon. Did I do something wrong?” I asked.
She shook her head,, without looking back at me. I sighed, and went to the mini fridge, took out the fruit crunches and the dairy milk.
I poured the milk into a glas-s cu-p and poured a little of the fruit crunches into the bowl. I also took a condensed milk which I used in dissolving the crunches.
Few minutes later, I was done with eating. I kept everything away and stood up. I looked at Julie and she was still re-ading the novel.
“I’m leaving, Julie” I told her.
She finally looked at me.
“Where?” She asked.
I was quite suprised but, I replied anyways.
“I wanna see a friend”
“Who?”
“Huh?” I raised a brow.
“I said, a friend. What else ap@rt from that do you wanna know?”
“A guy or a girl?” She asked.
“What’s wrong with you? It’s a girl,, if you really wanna know. A course mate of mine,, by name,, Lily”
“Okay then. There’s something I wanna tell you but thats after you are back”
I stared at her and nodded.
“Sure”
And with that said, I left.
Julie phone rang and she picked it after seeing who the caller was.

“Hey, Lily… St©p crying” I consoled her, gently taping her back, while we were both seated,, on her be-d.
“I feel so hurt” Lily didn’t st©p crying.
“Why would you? His girlfriend is here now so Vin has the right to st©p this friends with benefit stuff-
“But I love him!”
“What? You love who? Vin? I thought you told me, there wasn’t any special strings attached…”
“I don’t know but I think I fell for him. I wonder why he doesn’t feel the same”
“Lily,, This is insane. You actually fell with a guy who you took as a friend with benefit scheme, and you did likewise. So, why fall throu-gh?”
“How would I know? Love is unpredictable”
I rolled my eyes.
“Vin c@m£ to clas-s and behaved like nothing happened,, while you are here wasting your tears… Geez!”
“It’s not your tears” She sniffed.
“Whatever. Anyways, you missed a lot together in clas-s”
“How?,, What happened?” She asked.
“The as-sistant course rep c@m£ down from her post today,, so I and Ann were asked to be voted for. The highest votes would become the new as-sistant course rep”
Lily looked at me and said nothing. I blinked my eyes, surprised by the silence.
“Aren’t you curious, about the winner?” I asked.
“I know you won, young lady” She took her face down.
“How…did you know?” I wi-de-ned my eyes.
“Good grief!” She slammed her palm against her forehead.
“Isn’t it obvious,, I saw it on the group chat”
“Ohh”

I walked into the room exhausted. I saw Julie sitting on my be-d, and immensely staring at the floor.
“Julie?-
“Break up with Axel while I’m being nice” She suddenly said.
“Huh?” I f0rç£d a chuckle.
“What are you talking about? Did you drink?”
“I know about both of you! I thought you were wise! Can’t you see he’s just using you!” She yelled.
“July 13th,, you were the one he met that day at the club, I’m sure”
“I…don’t un-derstand”
“Lemme explain then”
I blinked.
“That day, Axel and I were supposed to have se-x for the very first time. But being a vir-gin,, I was damn scared. He added a high libi-do drug in our coffee and he ended up having an excess se-x urge. I clearly begged him and told him I wouldn’t have se-x with him cause I wasn’t re-ady” She said.
“So, what…what are you trying to say?” I stuttered, trying to put the puzzles together.
“I asked him to go to a bar, and get a harlot whom he should sleep with instead. He left and saw you… You finally sle-pt with Axel. He just wanted to terminate his urge using your pu-ssy and that is all”
“Liar. He loves me! He changed! He wouldn’t do that! Who told you!” I proved, stubborn.
“Must someone tell you something obvious. Doesn’t it make s-en-se? We were both talking about July 13th the other day. You just nee-d to think well and fix the puzzles right”
“Also, the con-dom he used that day and the perfume he used too,, were all mine”

“Axel doesn’t deserve you. He once called girls who bears roses cheap and easy…”
“I think that p@rt has been settled. He…wait,, did he tell you that?” I asked.
“Yeah… Afterwards, he sle-pt with you. It happened that same day”
Then I remembered the word he told me that day,, that made tears run down my eyes.

As Julie later explained?

Chapter 20 {Finale}

I was called to the Dean’s office. The course repres£ntative was supposed to go but I had to go on his stead, because he was busy with one of the lecturers.
I slowly entered the dean’s office and greeted him. He smiled at me.
“You’re the new as-sistant course repres£ntative?” He asked me.
I f0rç£d a smile and nodded.
“Cool,, There’s a guy outside my office,, seating just out of the door. plea-se, take him to your dep@rtment’s president and let them collect the portfolios from him, and take his name down,, okay?”
“Sure sir” I nodded, and walked out.
I saw this handsome, and sweet looking guy sitting on the bench outside. He had his head on the wall and he seemed to be resting.
I nearly got drowned in his looks.
Wait? Was I thinking?
All guys were the same!
I walked to him and looked at his handsome face which glowed un-der the bright sunlight.
I noticed a small leaf on his wine colored hair. I slowly took my hand to it and held it, in order to take it off.
That was when, he opened his eyes and quic-kly gr@bb£d my hand which was on his hair.
I trembled.
We stared de-eply at each other before he asked;
“Who are you?”
I took my hand away from his hold and blinked my eyes.
“Sorry, I saw something on your hair and I just wanted to take it off”
“Did you take it off?” He asked.
“Huh? No… I wanted to but you st©pped my hand”
He smiled and stood up. He was quite taller than me so I had to raise my face slightly to him. He bent his head over.
“You can take it off” He whispered.
I slowly took my hand to his hair and re-moved it.
“Done” I said.
He looked at me and smiled. I felt my eyes blinking fast. I was quite nervous.
“Who are you,, by the way?” He asked, softly.
“Huh?… I’m Rose,, your as-sistant course rep and I was told to take you to the dep@rtment president”
“I’m Elvis Vinson” He said.
“Rose…Rose Ire” I said.
“Beautiful name for a beautiful looking lady” He said and immediately, I hiccu-mpped.
Nervousity was having it worst on me. I also felt my heart flutter when I heard that.
“Follow me” I finally said and walked away.
Elvis smiled, and followed me quietly.

I guess the dep@rtment president isn’t around for now. The time says 11am. Why don’t we wait till 12?” I asked.
“Oh,, okay then” He agreed.
“Let’s wait at the field. Thats the best place to wait” I said, and he smiled.

We slowly ate the doughnut we ordered while waiting, and looking at the field.
“The field is amazing” He said.
“No doubt” I ch!pped.
“You are more amazing” He said, and I coughed. He quic-kly gave me his bottled water which I drank.
“I guess this is our first indirect k!ss” He mouthed.
“Pardon?” I raised my brows.
I alre-ady drank from this bottle and you also placed yourl-ips on it… ma-king it our first indirect k!ss” He smiled.
I looked at him in wonder. He looked at me and I quic-kly threw my gaze away.
“I’m coming. Lemme get us canned drinks from the vending machine. I drink sprite, you?”
“Whoa! Me too” I gushed.
“I guess we do cli-ck” He win-ked.
I smiled.
“Two for us then… Hold on” He said, and left.
I was still eating the doughnut when I heard someone suddenly call my name. I stood up and turned around to see Axel.
He was looking sick. His eyes were red shooted. I sighed and stood up.
“Rose…I…I saw your message last two night. I’ve been messaging and calling but you are ignoring them. I even tried to check up on you but you aren’t normally around”
“…Was that a prank?,, I’m talking about the break up message. plea-se,, tell me yes. I couldn’t sleep a wi-nk since that night. I kept on crying till I got a fever…I-
“Axel,, Its over and thats it! Period!”
“Why? Rose,, plea-se… You know we are meant for each other”
“Not anymore, Axel!” I snapped and started walking away.
He ran to me and held my right hand.
“I’m really sorry if I offended you, plea-se… forgive me. Rose,, plea-se…
“Its over, Axel! accept that!”
“Rose, I love you” He whispered, crying.
I looked at him and could feel my heart beating fast.
“Too late, Axel. I don’t feel the same way… Now,, I’m being nice,, let go of my hand. Someone might see us and think otherwise”
“Rose,, a chance,, plea-se… I’m begging you. I love you so much and I can’t do without you,, plea-se. Don’t push me this way,, I’m begging you” He said, crying.
“Then explain! Explain,, why I’m cheap? I’m easy huh? I offered you se-x cause you wanted to satisfy your se-xual de-sires! fv¢k, Axel!” I blurted in tears.
“Julie’s perfume! The con-dom! Why did you use those while you were with me?!,, Who were you trying to impress, Axel,, hello!!!”
Axel quic-kly dried his eyes.
“It’s my mistake,, and I’m sorry. I never knew it would turn out this way. Let’s…just seat and sort this out,, plea-se”
“There’s nothing to sort out! Its O.V.E.R! Over! Got that!”
“Rose,, I love you…”
“You just saying this?… Well, I don’t love you anymore,, too bad. Let go of my arm now!”
“Hello,, the young lady clearly told you to leave her arm. What are you waiting for?” I heard Elvis’ cool and sweet voice.
I turned my head,, to see him, holding onto my other hand.
Now,, my two hands were busy… with two handsome guys hands clutching onto it.
I looked at Axel and then at Elvis. They were both glaring at each other eyes.
Was this perhaps another r0m@nç£story?… Maybe a tale,, I might live to tell for another day.
But one thing I know is that,, r0m@nç£isn’t what we all think it is. Just like life,, r0m@nç£isn’t a be-d of…. roses.
