Age doesn’t matter Episode 1 & 2

AGE DOESN’T
MATTER
EPISODE 1

The cold evening Breeze blew around my b©dy as I stood straight in the front porch of my parent’s house.
I quic-kly took a big sip out of my coffee, so the wind won’t get it cold.
I sighed heavily as I watched two pretty birds have a noisy conversation they looked happy, I mean their life is so perfect they don’t have to work or go to college they’re just free… And I wish I could be just like them

I’m so tired of being jobless, I see my life the same as vagrants, but thankfully I live with my parents, staying jobless is not what I’ve planned for this month, or this year.
I finished high school three years ago and I could have gotten into any college of my dream, but I plan to work first cause my family is a lot short on money.
We’re not financial stable.
For the past three years I haven’t gotten any job, and honestly I don’t know what to do.
To my own point of view, every job interview I had gone to, I know I nailed every interview but still yet I didn’t get the job. I don’t want to lose hope but somehow all hope is lost.
I sighed heavily as I carried my coffee and head inside.
Inside our small living room I saw my mom sitting on one of our leather couch and chopping carrots on one of her favorite chopping board.

“Honey… Dinner’s almost re-ady why don’t you go set up the table” my mom said and I dropped my coffee mug and breathed out a “sure” before walking away.
After setting up the table my mom and I started to eat dinner without my dad, he’s at work and he comes home late, super late so we always have dinner without him.
Being an only child isn’t forgiving cause sometimes it will just be me and my mom or sometimes just me. We both ate our dinner quietly until my mom dropped her spoon and looked up at me.
“What?” I asked cause her gaze was pretty strange. Though it looked a bit relieved.

“So I wanted to wait for the right time.” she smiled.
“Wait for what?” I asked.
“I found a job for you Elsa” my mom said and I g@sped “Really?”. She ru-bbe-d her n£¢k nervously. “well I won’t consider it as ‘found a job’ well I did see one but–
“When?” I cut her off happily.
“Uhm maybe three or two days ago.” she replied with a nervous smile.
“Why didn’t you tell me!” I smiled standing up.
“You know I’ve been busy with work and I also didn’t think you’d like the job” my mom blurted.
She didn’t think.
“Mom I don’t care what kind of job it is as long as it pays” I said and my mom gave me a strong gaze.

I laughed nervously. “Sorry I said that out of desperation”
She nods in an un-derstanding way and sighws.
“Okay so about the job, don’t get to excited cause I don’t know if it’s taken yet but I hope it’s not and also it’s a teaching job.” my mom explained.
“Teaching job?” I repeated and she nodded.
Worst job ever, I know what teacher suffers most from us, from elementary school to middle school and then high school when puberty starts to take charge of our b©dy and we start to get really cranky and annoying, the stress behind it.

My mom sighed. “See u knew you wouldn’t like the job.” My mom sighed worriedly.
She knows me too much and it feels like I make her worry all the time. Including now.
“You know it’s okay, I mean how ha-rd can teaching be, it’s a piece of cake.” I can’t continue being jobless and as long as the pay is fine I’m willing to work for it. That’s just it.

“Okay honey, After dinner I’ll give you the flyer where you’d find the details about the job and everything about it.” my mom said and my eyes wi-den

A flyer?
“A flyer?” I repeated.
“So you got to know about this job, just by looking at a flyer?” I asked.
“Yes” she nodded.
Okay that’s not considering as finding a job, just by looking at a flyer, and besides it would have been taken by anyone.

After dinner my mom and I headed to her room and getting there I sat on her be-d while she rummage throu-gh her handbag.

“Here” she smiled handing me a golden looking flyer.
I took it from her and re-ad what was written there.

“Mathematics teacher nee-ded!!!”

“See isn’t that amazing you’re smart, you’re good with mathematics you’re good with everything I bet the person you’ll be tutoring will be so happy to get a tutor like you”. My mom beamed.
“So where’s the payment written” I asked turning the back of the flyer to see the white blank page.
“See it’s kind of weird but this is it” my mom said pointing at a p@rticular coloured writing at the bo-ttomof the page.
I looked at the writings and re-ad it out loud “we pay according to your taste”.
“Huh?” I looked up at my mom
“What does that mean?” I asked.
“It means they pay according to what you tell them to… I Think” my mom grinned with a light shrug.
She thinks.

“Wow I don’t know what to say, mom are you sure this is real and it isn’t some kind of fraud or..
“No it isn’t, I as-sure you, go for it tomorrow and you won’t be disappointed”. My mom cut me off.
I sighed and stood up.
“Well mom give me your phone.” I said to my mom and she gave it to me, I dialed the number written on the flyer, on my mom’s phone and called them.
I nee-d to take this job before anyone would.
The phone rang for three seconds until a sweet female voice echoed from the other line saying. “Hello!”
“Hi” I breathed out.
“Who is this plea-se?” the voice asked.
“I.. I saw your job vacancy for a mathematics teacher.!!”
The woman g@sped. “Oh yes, yeah.”
“Okay so is it still vacant or is it taken?” I asked.
“No… No it’s still vacant and we really nee-d someone for this job.” The woman said.
Wow it must be pretty urgent.
“And about the amount?” was my concern.
“Oh we’ll talk about that when you get here.” The woman said happily.
Wow okay.
My mind suddenly starts to calculate how much I nee-d,

“Okay so how can I get your address.”? I asked.
“Oh its written at the t©p of the flyer.” she replied and my head looked down at it immediately.
Wow. It’s not that far from here.
Just take a bus and that’s all.

“Okay seen, so when do I start?” I asked.
“Tomorrow.” she yelled ma-king me flin-ch.
“The earlier the better.” she added
“And what time should I make it there?” I asked.
“You start at three fifteen pm when my son gets back from school, but since you’re staring tomorrow why don’t you come a little bit early.” I could feel the lady’s smile.
A son.
Okay so we’re tutoring a male here.
“Okay sure.” I said with a small smile and the woman thanked me and hanged up..

“Finally!” I breathed out.

“Yes finally.” my mom said cheerfully ma-king me laugh.
“Thanks mom. I wouldn’t have gotten this without you.” I said standing up.
“Of course. Anything for you” my mom smiled, I gave her a small smile.
“Okay I have to go to sleep in early tonight I have a big day tomorrow” I said walking out of her room.
“Okay goodnight honey.” my mom yelled behind me.
*

I plopped down on my be-d immediately I got in my room.
Finally I have a job. I just hope when I get there tomorrow it won’t be anything bad.
And besides I also forgot to ask who I’ll be tutoring if it’s a little boy or a teenage boy or perhaps someone even older. Well I hope my last option is wrong.
That night after taking a cold bath, I got un-der my covers and before I knew it I fell asleep.
The next morning, the sound of singing birds woke me up even before my alarm gets to ring. And I’m serious when I say those birds are super annoying.
Few minutes later I was in my bathroom brushing my teeth.
I took a warm bathe later and went down to have breakfast, with my parents.
“So Elsa, your mom told me you finally got a job.” My dad said as we all gathered around the small dining table.
I gave my mom a look before turning to my dad.
“I don’t know if I’d like to call it a job yet, cause I haven’t actually met them in person.” I replied adding bu-tter to my toasted bre-ad.
“Well I wish you good luck.” my encouraging dad said and I nod with a smile.
My dad left for work that morning leaving me and my mom and er talked about some few things before she left for work too leaving me home alone as always but today everything is going to change.
I hope so.
*
I brou-ght out all my mathematics textbooks, guidebook and notebook to help me refresh my br@in, not that it nee-ds to be refreshed, I’m doing all this out of a little bit of nervousness.
I studied all my books till it was two thirty in the afternoon and I got a call from my mom saying the woman from yesterday about the job, called saying I should be on my way.
I quic-kly moved all my books away and found myself in my closet looking for the most decent clothes to wear.
After feeling more educated and decent in a black mini Sk-irt and a blue shi-t, u gr@bb£d one of my handbag, fixed my phone and textbooks inside with some other things before heading out.
I took the bus and I clearly remembered the address written on the flyer.

I finally got to the street and wandered about looking for house forty seven. It irks me to walk around like this but I had no choice.
But finally I found house forty seven which was one of the biggest house in the street.
The house gate was hvge and thick but it was opened alre-ady cause it looked like a car just drove in.
Nervously, I walked in and met a man in uniform. And I kind of figured he’d be a security guy.

“Good day, uhm may I ask who you’re looking for.?” the security dude ask.
“Oh Good afternoon, I’m here for the job.” I replied.
My eyes not staring at his but the beautiful and enormous compound to see its beautiful flowers.
“The job.” the man repeated. “Oh yes the job, plea-se come this way.” He said
As he led me towards the front door of the house he said. “Mrs hvggins has been expecting you”.

We got to the door and he opened it and we both walked in.
My jaw dropped as we both walked in the living room.
It was just so… I don’t know the word for it but Rich and clas-sy would fit.
“plea-se wait here while I get Mrs hvggins” the man said and I nodded.
I observed the good looking house in front of me and I just couldn’t help but envy the rich.

“Oh my God, you’re here!” I heard a female voice and I looked up and saw a middle aged woman with amazing hair walk down the gigantic stairs at a corner in the living.
“Good day ma’am” I smiled.
She must be the one who called. Her voice matched
“Just call me Freya, I’m not that old to be called ‘Ma’am’ you know” she said and laughed to herself.
I nodded with a smile.
“Okay thank you so much for coming and you too Desmond, thank you for your ha-rd work” she said to the security man. And he nodded and left immediately.

“So young lady what’s your name?” Mrs hvggins asked.
“Elsa. Elsa Hathaway” I replied.
“Okay yes plea-se sit down.” she said and I sat down and she sat opposite me with a hvge smile on my face.
Goodness she’s pretty

“I’m so glad you could make it here, we’ve been looking for a pri-vate tutor since forever but no one showed up for the job, but here you are, I’m just so happy seeing you here.” she explained with a smile.
I don’t like tutoring someone but, I nee-d money.
“Mrs hvggins.” I called.
“Yes dear.” she smiled.
“You said i would be a math tutor to your son, may I ask how old your son is?”
“Oh my Jason will be turning eighteen next week.” Mrs hvggins smiled.
Jason. So he’s seventeen, going to eighteen.
A teenage boy.
Okay so this can’t get any worse right? I’m going to be tutoring a teenage boy, teenage boys are really not the best.
Well some are. I hope he’s calm and coated.
I really hope so.
.
EPISODE 2.

Okay so I’m going to be tutoring a teenage boy who’s going to be eighteen next week.
Well I don’t see how things could go wrong.
Right?
“So… Uhm Mrs hvggins” I called and the woman turned to me.
“So when am I starting?”
“Today!” she smiled.
“Today?” I repeated and she nodded.
“Is there anything wrong dear?” she asked but I shook my head negatively.
“Nope. Nothing is wrong” I lied.
I thought she would ask me to start tomorrow, but you know what, today’s actually fine. What would I be doing at home anyways.
“You it’s better if it’s earlier.” Mrs hvggins said and I nodded.
Yeah we all get that now.

“So now let’s talk about your payment” the pretty lady said ma-king me smile on the inside. Finally, I mean it’s the only statement that made me happy.

Mrs hvggins and I talked about my pay and I couldn’t be more glad, like the payment was more than enough and unexpected. God I’m keeping this job.

It was seven past three in the afternoon and Mrs hvggins had as-sured me that her son Jason is going to be back five minutes past three and now I’ve been waiting for almost three minutes now and the ‘Jason.’ isn’t back yet.
Well he’s just three minutes late, but I’m still kind of Impatient, or was my impatient nervousness, why would I be nervous.
He’s just a teenager.

I started to tap my feet ra-pidly on the floor and I tend to do that when I’m nervous or impatent.
Mrs hvggins watched my gestured and expression and she suddenly knew I was getting impatent.
“Elsa!” she called softly and I turned to her.
“Would you like to get a cu-p of tea?”
“No thanks.” I sighed.
Wish I could tell her how bored and impatent I am now.
“plea-se when will your son arrive.?” I asked softly.
She sighed “He’s supposed to be home like three minutes ago cause his driver had gone to pick him up and his school isn’t far from home and he comes home at the exact time everyday and I don’t un-derstand why he’s late today.”
I bit my bo-ttoml!pand she moved her perfectly dark hair from her face.
“Maybe I should just call him.” she said gr-abbing her phone from the small glas-s table in front of her.
As she tapped the screen with her gorgeous looking f!ngers. The front door opened and her son Jason walked inside.
And yep, he’s a good example of a teenage high school jock.
He’s tall, very tall, he looks bigger than seventeen but when you look at his face you can tell he’s a kid despite his b©dy being more older than seventeen, He had thick black hair and light brown eyes just like his mom, He was pretty good looking, very good looking just like his mom.
They’re all just so pretty and rich… Somehow I’m jealous.

“Jason!!” Mrs hvggins exclaimed running to the door.
“Mom.” Jason smiled walking up to his mother
“Why are you so late you’re supposed to be home at exactly five past three did you know how worried I wa–
“Mom” Jason interrupted “I am not a child anymore I can come home whenever I want, just because I’m three or even a second late doesn’t mean you have to overreact”.
“Overreact? As long as you live un-der this roof you live by your parent’s rules and besides you’re not even eighteen, so don’t go out boasting about doing whatever you want to do, even if you’re twenty eight, you’re still a little boy to me.” Mrs hvggins yelled ma-king Jason smile.
Why is he smiling, even his smiles looks evil.
“Mom. I don’t see you getting all worked up cause I’m here now and also I’ll be eighteen in six days and that’s the reason I was late, the whole school wanted to attend my birthday p@rty, so I had no choice than to get the whole school invited by giving out invitation card one by one. Do you know how ha-rd that is mom. ” Jason rolled his eyes.
“I don’t care, is your birthday more important than a–
“Oh plea-se mom. Of course my birthday is more important, way important, I’m going to be eighteen, do you think that’s easy.” Jason blurted out.
“You’re saying it like I didn’t turn eighteen or like your father didn’t turn eighteen, you’re not the first boy to turn eighteen” Mrs hvggins yelled and I tried to hide my smile as I watched them from the couch I sat still.
“Well it’s important to me and why did you want me to come home so early what do you want to do with me?” Jason asked.
“It’s good you asked, come over here.” Mrs hvggins said and led her son towards me and I had to stand up. For proper introduction.

“Anyways it’s good that you’re back we’ve been waiting for you.” Mrs hvggins said.
“We?” Jason repeated, his eyes suddenly dart to me.
“Jason this is Elsa. Elsa this is my son Jason.” Mrs hvggins introduced and I put on the best smile I could ever fix on myl-ips.

“Hello!” I said with the most sweetest voice I could ever exhibit, I have to appear decent and nice.
Jason began. “Who is she?”
“She is Elsa Hathaway, your new–
“wife?” Jason interrupted,
Mrs hvggins blinked in confusion as she watched her son laugh at his stupid and lame joke.
That wasn’t funny.

“Are you crazy, she is your new math tutor”

“Math tutor? I don’t nee-d a math tutor I can help myself I can be my own tutor” Jason said.
Jason should better accept the fact that I’m his teacher and don’t spoil this job and it’s sweet payment.

“Of course you do nee-d a math tutor cause you’ve been getting too many D minus and F9 on your mathematics text and I can’t let that happen anymore.” Mrs hvggins said.
“Ugh! I thought I hid those stupid report cards from you.” Jason said slowly throu-gh gritted teeth.
“Oh goodness, you know what your father is going to do when he learns of this!” Mrs hvggins said in a threatening tone that made Jason sigh relinquished.
Jason raised his head up to look at me…

“But mom why did you hire a teenager to tutor me I could have just asked my girlfriend to tutor me instead, how do you expect a teenager to learn from a teenager” Jason expound.
Teenager!!! Do I look that small???
Is 5’ft. 8inches small?
I know I’m tall enough for him to realise I’m not small or my face doesn’t look mature enough, I don’t un-derstand who he’s calling teenager.
He’s alre-ady pissing me off.

“Elsa is not a teenager.” Mrs hvggins exclaimed!
“What? She looks sixteen to me. Mom are you sure. Cause I’m pretty sure I’m older than her.” Jason laughed ma-king me roll my eyes angrily.
“Well I’m not sixteen.” I said cooly, I was alre-ady boiling though.
“Oh really? Okay then how old are you?” he asked.
This kid has got to be kidding me.

“Way older than you!” I replied him.
Giving him the strongest glare ever. But he didn’t look away he just held up a mocking glare trying to fight off my glare.

“Jason. Go take your shower and after having dinner your tutoring with miss Elsa starts so be re-ady,” Mrs hvggins said to her son.
“Whatever” he said and walked away like I said. Teenage boys are ha-rd to deal with.

After showering and having dinner, like promised Jason c@m£ down to the living room and stood in front of me…
“Okay so are you re-ady?” I asked standing up.
“Don’t I look re-ady?” he scoffed.
ma-king me want to sl@p his pretty face pretty ha-rd .
I almost forgot how stupid and rude boys like him could be.
“Okay go get your books and let’s start studying” I tried to sound polite but my voice c@m£ out harsh.

“I thought we were studying in my room.” Jason said.
“No, your mom said you have a pri-vate studying room and we can both use that room” I tell him.
“Nope. We’re studying in my room.” he replied and I sighed since he’s the student and I’m the teacher, the only way to solve this maturely is to accept whatever he wants.

I breathed out a “fine” and he sm-irked.

“Okay so this is the way to my room” he said and starts to walk up the glamorous stairs, I quic-kly picked up my bag and some text books that crawled out of the bag.
I trailed behind Jason and tried my best to keep up with his fast legs.
“Jason wait up!” I said and he st©pped and turned to me.
“What?” his tone was rude as expected. No surprise there.
“You can at least help me out with my bag, And books” I said with a slight shrug.
“Sorry, but I think we both clearly have two hands.” he said and let out a sly smile and Continued walking.
He’s Rich but yet he behaves like a proletarian.

I ignored his rude remarks and continued carrying my bag and books.
Jason got to his room and as I got in with him, I observed his teenage room myself it was all white and black, looking very opulent, affluent and clas-sy.

“My study desk is over there.” Jason pointed and my head snapped and turned to a wooden table and chair beside his window, I walked to the desk and placed my books on t©p.
“Okay now let’s start with–
I st©pped talking when I saw Jason alre-ady la-id on his be-d and pla-ying with his phone. I mean what the hell.!
” Jason!” I almost yelled.
This spoilt br@t should better not joke with me. My nice attitude was just sugar-coated.

“What is it Elise” he replied with a smug on his face.
Elise.! Okay that’s not even my name.
“What are you doing your be-d aren’t we supposed to be studying?” I said trying to sound polite.
“Or…” Jason sat up “We could just stay in my room and pretend to study and when it’s time to go you go. There you get plenty of free time and I don’t study… Smart right?”.
He’s so dumb.
I started “Or we could use that pretentious time to study for real and that way we can both benefit something, I mean isn’t that the reason I’m getting paid.”
“Come one Elsa can’t you see I don’t want to learn.?” he whined.
“You’re seventeen, what you have to do now is study, and besides I’m getting paid to teach you so neither of us have no choice” I said sternly.
“You should never teach anywhere, you’re rude as fv¢k.” Jason blurted out.
Look who’s calling someone else rude.
Jason sighed angrily as he got down from his be-d, as he walked up to me, he glared at me but his glare had no effect on me, he’s just a silly child who’s going throu-gh puberty.

“Sit” I ordered and pushed his chair forward.
“I’m not a dog you can’t order me around” he said and sat down.
“Well as your tutor and someone who is older than you, I see no wrong in me ordering you around.” I tell him.
We’re actually kind of the same, getting pissed by everything, rude as hell.
So if he tries to be rude I’ll just give him double, I don’t like taking $h!ts especially from a teenager.

“We’ll see about that” he scoffed.
ma-king me roll my eyes at him.
I stood beside him and dropped the math textbook in front of him.

“Okay so what t©pic did you guys st©pped at, in school!” I asked to know where to start with the tutoring.
“I don’t know!” he shrugged.
I scoffed. “How can you… I mean, why the hell won’t you know, are you joking with me right now!!!” I yelled ma-king him flin-ch.

Okay Elsa calm down! I tell myself and I breathed In and out before turning back to him.

Tbc…
