CHAPTER 85(FINALE+EPILOGUE)

••••
{ HER NAME IS ABIGAIL }

“I want to end it all…monsters shouldn’t live among humans.” With that said, she pulled Frederick with her and jumped off the rooftop.

“No!!!”
_______

Death.

This was the end path she chose. One thing life taught her was that, death is the end game for every living thing.

Her mother died, and the torture she always go through in the hands of a monster she married as a husband ended.

Tara died, and the pain of Hepatitis B ended. Even the past victims who had one sickness or the other, they died and all of the pains stopped.

Death… It puts an end to everything people faces in the world, whether good or bad. It is the end point of life.

Abby glanced over at the man who made her like this, the man who made her a shadow of herself. The man who made her a monster. The man she decided to die alongside with, he was falling a few miles away from her.

Frederick never saw this coming and it took him by surprise when she pushed him and herself off the rooftop. For the first time in his life, he was beaten at his own game.

There was no chance of survival for him. For them.

Frederick closed his eyes, accepting his fate of death. The path that his stepdaughter chose for him.

Abby’s lips stretched into a smile. She had always thought of ways to put an end to this bastard’s miserable life! Make him go through all of the pains he made her go through as a child. She tortured him this past years, using every method he used on her. She gave him a taste of his own medicine. And now, he was going to die along with the monster he created – her.

However, in all of this that has happened, Abby was grateful for a lot of things. She was glad to have met an angel like Emma, a lady who loved and took care of her to the very end. Emma wasn’t just a best friend to Abby, she was a sister. A family.

Abby was also glad to have met a beautiful princess like Tara. She is sure that wherever the teenage girl is, it is a safe and happy place. A place where princesses like her should be. A place where she would feel no pain, sadness or fear.

Abby was glad to have also met a man like Jersey who loved her unconditionally. He chose her over himself. How crazy can that be? Indeed, she was fortunate to have met them regardless of how messed up her life was.

Her happy memories with them that she wouldn’t trade for anything in this world played in her head and that warmed her heart.

Abby gazed back to the rooftop where Jersey, Robert, Ginny and Emma was. They were all staring down at her with their eyes wide opened. Everyone least expected her last move.

“Abby!” Emma screamed, attempting to jump off the rooftop as well to save her friend but Robert wrapped his arms around her waist, stopping her. “Let go of me.” She struggled to pull away from his arms but he wouldn’t let go.

“You can’t save her.” He told her the bitter truth.

“No, no, no. Abby…” Emma wept bitterly, stretching forth her arm as if she would be able to catch her friend that way but fantasy was impossible in the real world.

“I’m sorry…” Abby mouthed and her eyes fluttered close, tears rolling down her face as she accepted her end.

Additionally, she was glad about one more thing… The fact that she was able to cry at her very end. She is human after all.

A few moments later, Abby and Frederick collided with the cold ground, kissing the world a goodbye.

Emma was crying bitterly, kneeling down on the tiled floor.

This wasn’t how she expected things to end. This wasn’t the future she imagined of herself and best friend.

How can life been so cruel and partial?

Abby didn’t deserve this at all. She didn’t deserve the sad ending she got.

Emma clutched her chest, squeezing her eyes tightly shut and sobbed even harder.

Robert approached and knelt beside her before wrapping her arms around her shoulders, consoling her.

“It’s going to be okay.” He mumbled softly.

“How?” She asked in tears. “How is it going to be okay? Am I going to have my best friend back? Tell me, how is it going to be okay?”

“I don’t know. But trust me, she is in a better place now.” He told her, stroking her back gently.

Emma shook her head. “No, I want her here with me. I want my best friend back. Is that too much to ask for?”

“No.” He answered. “But you have to be strong. Abby will want that for you as well.”

“You have to stop crying,” Ginny stated, giving her senior a sad and pitiful look.

“During her dying moment she cried… For the first time in my life, I saw my best friend cry.” She said, sniffling. “I can’t believe she would kill herself in front of me. How could she do this to me?”

Robert pulled Emma into his arms and dropped a soft kiss on top of her head.

“Stop crying, Emma. Please…”

She didn’t listen. She continued crying, staring at the photo of Abby which was of her(Abby) crying. It turns out that Abby took a selfie of herself crying in the room. Emma decided to use it for her obituary because it was the most beautiful picture she has ever seen of Abigail.

“Rest in peace, my sweet sister. You will forever be in my heart. I love you so much.”

••••

Emma was trying to make pancakes for herself but it was pretty difficult.

She groaned at the back of her throat, trying to flip the pancakes upside down but it fell to the ground.

“Oh, shit.” She cursed, mentally scolding herself.

“What are you doing?” A feminine voice said, entering the kitchen.

Emma raised her head up and saw Abigail, wearing black shorts and a blue tank top.

“Are you trying to make pancakes? How many times have I told you to call me first before you turn on the gas, huh? Do you want to burn down the house?” She glanced down at the pancakes on the ground and shook her head. “You are even wasting pancakes. I bought these with money, you know.”

Tears streamed down Emma’s face as her lips started trembling.

“Abby…” She called out in a soft voice, looking beyond shocked.

“Why are you looking at me like you’ve just seen a ghost?” Abby scoffed.

“How…how are you here?” Emma asked in surprised.

“You are the one hallucinating me.” She answered, grinning. “Do you miss me?”

“I miss you so much, Abby. I can’t believe you are gone. It hurts to know that I will never see you again.”

“You are seeing me now.” Abby pointed out, leaning towards the counter. “Do you need my help to make the pancakes?”

“It is difficult to make it. How do you do it?”

The doorbell rang, grabbing Emma’s attention.

“Someone is knocking, do you want to get the door?”

“Uhm, I will be right back. Hold on.” Emma attempted to leave when Abby said,

“I won’t be here when you return and you won’t be able to hallucinate me.”

“What?”

“Emma, you need to move on. I know it hurts but you have to let go.”

“No, I can’t.” Emma refused, crying. “You know what, I am not going to get the door. Let’s just stay here and chill.” She suggested.

“I still have to leave. I am in a better place now. But your distress and pain are making it hard for me to rest in peace. I’m sorry for leaving you like this but you have to live the rest of your life well. Be happy.”

“Abby, please stop talking like this. I can’t let go of you. I can’t…” She vigorously shook her head, more tears streaming down her face.

“You want me to rest in peace, don’t you?” Emma nodded. “Then let go of me and move on. Enjoy the rest of your life and be with the one that makes you happy. However, I will come back to your life again. Someday in the future, I will be back.” She said.

“Abby, don’t go. Please.”

“I have to. I’m sorry, sis. And I promise to come back to you in the future. Believe me, I will be back.” With that being said, she slowly began to fade away.

“Abby!” Emma screamed, reaching out to grasp her friend’s arm but ended up grabbing the air.

Abby gave out a bitter smile before completely disappearing into the thin air.

“No, don’t leave me!!!” Emma screamed in an agonizing voice.

“Emma, are you okay?” Robert asked from the kitchen door, breathing heavily.

Emma didn’t answer and went on crying.

Robert stepped closer and engulfed her into a warm embrace, stroking her hair lightly.

“What happened?” He asked her.

“Abby was here. I swear I saw Abby. She was here with me in the kitchen.” She answered in tears.

Robert tightened his arms around Emma.

She hasn’t stepped out of the house since the death of Abby. Everyone at work has been so worried about her, including himself and Ginny.

She was in so much pain. Abby’s departure was still hurting her and he doesn’t know what to do to make her feel better.

However, he knows how much it hurts to lose someone you love so much.

“I miss her so much. I miss my best friend.” She stated, crumpling his shirt as she clutched it. “I can’t live without her, Robert. I am all alone now.”

“No, you are not.” He said. “You still have me, remember?”

She didn’t say anything but buried her face on his chest, inhaling his scent that somewhat calmed her down.

••••

Robert stepped out of the kitchen with a plate of pancakes and syrup, he dropped it on the table in front of Emma and went back inside the kitchen only to return with a glass of chilled juice.

“Why aren’t you eating?” He asked, sitting down opposite her.

“I was waiting for you. You are not going to eat as well?” She asked.

“Nah. I’m not hungry.”

“Hmm. okay.” She took a bite of the pancake and moaned at the soft delicacy. “Whoa, it’s delicious. How are you able to do this?”

“Well, what do you expect from a guy who lives alone? A bachelor, hmm?”

“Yeah, right.” She took another bite. “It’s really delicious.”

“Thank you.” He smiled. “How do you feel now?”

“Free.” She answered. “Abby promised to come back to me so I’ve decided to live my life to the fullest while I wait for her return.”

“I love your positivity.” He commented.

“You make it sound like I just said something impossible.” She pointed out.

“Did I? Sorry. But on a serious note, it is good to be positive. And I’m glad you’ve decided to let go and move on.”

She took a sip of juice and cleared her throat.

“Robert, I have something to tell you.”

“Okay? I also have something to say to you.” He said.

“Oh. I’m listening.”

“Ladies first.”

“I’m given you the permission to go first.”

“No, I want you to_”

“I like you.” She blurted out, holding his gaze. “Actually, I love you.”

“What?” Robert swallowed the huge lump in his throat. “Are you for real right now?”

She stood up, rounded the desk and went to sit beside him. “I am for real. I want to take Abby’s advice by being with the man I love and living my life to the fullest.” She leaned closer to him. “I’m going to kiss you now, if you don’t feel the same way for me, push me away. If you do, don’t pull away.”

“Emma, list_”

She cut him off by slamming her lips on his, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him wholeheartedly.

Robert was hesitant at first before kissing her back, encircling his arms around her waist and deepening the kiss.

“The feeling is mutual,” He said into her mouth and she moaned in response.

••••

It’s been five years since everything happened.

Five years since Jersey got arrested and sentenced to jail for seven years for tampering with evidence and being an accomplice to a murderer. He might not have joined her in killing those patients but the fact that he hid the truth and started covering up her traces so she wouldn’t get caught made him an accomplice.

It’s being five years since Marshall and Felicia divorced and started living their lives like strangers. Marshall moved out of the house and got fired from work as well. His doctor’s license was rebuked and he can no longer work as a doctor in any part of the world anymore.

Marshall relocated to Boston, where he picked up the remaining pieces of his life and started afresh. However, he remained a father to his sons but not a husband to Felicia. Marshall would usually visit his sons once in a while and sometimes they will be the ones to come over to Boston and spend their holidays with him. Felicia didn’t tell them about his infidelity and he was grateful to her for that.

Felicia started running the affairs of Santos hospital. She became the new director and everyone respected her. There were no murders, no crime and no fear of mysterious death again.

Thelma was fired from work for not saying anything to the cops about Sandra.

And as for Sandra, her doctor’s license was also rebuked. She left the country to Los Angeles with her son and Margaret where she started a new life and relationship with James, her son’s father.

Tessa and Richard got married four years ago and had a set of twins -A boy and a girl.

Emma and Robert got married three years ago and they were both promoted at work while Ginny finished her internship and became a full-time cop/detective and she chose to work under Emma and Robert. They were like her role models.

Ginny was still a rude spoilt brat but deep down, she has a beautiful soul and she is more serious with job than her damn phone.

••••

“You are so annoying,” Tessa rolled her eyes.

“Yes, I am.” Robert stuck out his tongue in a childlike manner, smirking.

“Emma, caution your husband or else I’m going to whack his head.”

“Your husband isn’t far from my reach in case you are forgetting.” Emma fired back.

“What? You didn’t just say that.” Tessa gasped.

“Women supporting women in the mud.” Richard snickered.

“I love you so much, hun.” Robert pecked Emma on her cheek and she blushed, smiling.

“I love you more, baby.” She replied.

“I’ve got a wife also, enough with the oppression.” Richard started and they all laughed.

“So, Emma, when will you be due?” Tessa asked.

Emma ran her palm over her big baby bump and shrugged. “Next two weeks.”

“Oh, gosh. I can’t wait to be an aunt.” Tessa gushed, excitedly.

“Lily and Liam need a playmate.” Richard added.

“Yeah. You should have even brought them along.” Emma pouted.

“This is an adult only time. Nanny Sally is going to take very good care of them.” Tessa said, taking a sip of orange juice. “And besides, mummy need a break. Don’t worry you will under how stressful it is to be a mother. But trust me, it is worth it.”

Emma smiled, rising to her feet. “I will be right back, I need to pee.”

“Do you want me to_”

“No.” She cut her husband off. “I’ve got this myself.” Emma walked away.

••••

A few minutes later, Emma was stepping out of the bathroom when she bumped into a girl.

“Oh, f**k. I’m so_” The girl stopped talking when she saw the face of Emma. “Wait, aren’t you Detective Emma?”

Emma frowned. “Uhm, yes. Do I know you?”

“Yes. You don’t recognize me anymore? Come on, it’s only been three years.”

“Well…hold on a sec, you are Julian.”

“In the flesh.” Julian replied, smiling.

“It’s been such a long time. How are you?”

“I’m fine. You look…” She took in Emma’s new appearance. “pregnant. Let me guess, you got married to Detective Robert.”

“Is it that obvious?”

“Mm-hmm. I saw the love that sparkled between the both of you. And I rooted for you both. Romma.”

“Romma? What’s that?”

“The ship name I made for you two.”

“What? That’s crazy.” They chuckled.

“Congratulations, though. And I’m glad to see you again.”

“Thank you, Julian. Hope you’ve moved on from Steven.”

Julian grinned. “Yeah, I have. And I met someone else. We came here together.”

“Wow. That’s good to know.”

“Yeah.”

“See you around, Julian.”

“You too, Detective Emma. Extend my greetings to Detective Robert and I wish you a safe delivery.”

“Thank you.”

••••

“You’ve caught this, baby. Just one step at a time.” Robert encouraged, leading Emma to the front door.

“My back hurts.” Emma cried, blowing out deep breaths.

“I will massage it for you,” Robert started massaging her back and waist.

The door flew open and Ginny dashed inside.

“Are you alright?” She threw her bag on the couch and rushed to stand on the other side of Emma, giving her support.

“Do I look alright!?” Emma snapped. “How do you even know I’m in labor?”

“Mr. Handsome told me your due date.” Ginny answered.

“Stop calling him that, he’s my husband. Ahh!” Emma gasped.

“Simply because he’s your husband doesn’t mean I will stop admiring his handsome face and hotness.

Tessa ran inside the house with the baby bag she has prepared for a day like this.

“Where is Richard?” Robert asked.

“He is getting the car ready. Let’s hurry and take her to the hospital before she delivers the baby here.”

“I think…the baby is already coming out.” Emma stated, squeezing her eyes shut and balling her fist.

“Hold yourself, baby. We are almost at the hospital.”

“I am having contraction and not blind, Robert.” She said through gritted teeth, breathing heavily.

They came out of the house and saw the car parked in front of them.

“Get in, hurry up.” Richard said.

They all entered the car and drove out of the compound in full speed.

••••

“Any news?” Desmond asked, joining them in the waiting room.

“Not yet.” Robert answered, pacing back and forth. “I’m worried.”

“Calm down, Rob.” Tessa said.

Eventually, the doctor came out with a huge smile on her face.

“Congratulations, your wife has just given birth to a beautiful baby girl.” She announced.

“Yes!!” Robert fist-bumped the air in all smiles and excitement.

“Congratulations.” His friends, family and boss started congratulating him.

“Thank you.” He faced the doctor. “Can I go and see my wife now?”

“Of course. We’ve already cleaned her up and the baby.” She told them.

“Thank you so much.”

••••

“Congratulations.” Everyone congratulated Emma and she thanked them.

“Babe, our baby is finally here.” She said, smiling. “Isn’t she beautiful?”

Robert pecked his baby’s forehead. “Yes, she is.”

“What are you going to name her?” Ginny asked.

≤!≥And I promise to come back to you in the future. Believe me, I will be back≤!≥

“Abigail.” She answered, tears rolled down her face. “Her name is Abigail.”

Everyone in the room smiled.

“Welcome to the world, baby Abigail.” Ginny said with a grin on her face.

“I will love, protect and cherish you.” Emma kissed her daughter’s lips while Robert sat beside them and embraced his wife, dropping a kiss on top of her head.

THE END…
