âIt isnât what you thinkâ Irene said.
âWhatever! I donât careâ Harold said, slammed the book closed, picked his wine and walked out of the libr@ry.
âMr Haroldâ Irene called, going after him.
âWhat?â Harold half yelled. He doesnât know why heâs so pissed that she went to that bar ! Again!
Itâs her life, he shouldnât be concerned with how she lives it but why did it hurt so much.
He just doesnât want her to be a bad influence on Ivory.
âI know i was aâŠâ Irene paused on the verge of tears.
âBut, i quit that job the moment i know Iâll be working hereâ She added with a shaky voice and Harold felt bad he had yelled and spoken harshly to her.
He found himself almost apologising.
No, he canât do that.
âBut you went to the bar yesternightâ Harold stated.
âI think we should just sit and discuss this, plea-seâ Irene said..
âLetâs go back to the libr@ry thenâ Harold said and irene was surprised at how cool his voice had turned.

They both walked back into the libr@ry and Harold sat.
âSitâ He told her but she shook her head.
âWhy?â
âI donât just want to, maybe i will, after i clear myselfâ She said and Harold shrugged.
âSo, i went to the bar yesternight cause Madam Perse had something to tell me. I swear,i didnât even spend up to an hour in her office. We discussed and i also got to tell her that i wonât be working with her anymore, i told her i alre-ady resumed as your daughterâs nanny and the pay is enough for me. Itâs not like that job was something i enjoyed doing so i can never go back to it,now that i have a more decent job.â Irene said.
Harold sighed âWell..im sorry to have had the wrong impression, but who wouldnât have thought the same. â Harold said.
âI should be sorry for upsetting youâ Irene said.
âItâs fine and you shouldnât blame my driver for telling me everything. I asked him if he dropped you home safely and then he explained to me. He owe me his loyaltyâ Harold said.
âOf course, every worker should be loyal to their employee. But, you should have told me immediately you saw me in the morning, you made me worried, i kept wondering how i offended you in the space of yesternight and this morningâ Irene said.
âI think you should have known a little bit of me by now. When Iâm pissed at you, i tend to ignore you to avoid dramaâ Harold said.
âWow! Iâm glad to know that, Iâll try not to upset you another timeâ Irene said, admiring the fireplace.
She wish she could go closer.
âWellâŠupsetting one another is bound to happen but what will really upset me is you going back to that job. If you nee-d anything, just tell me, Iâm gonna provide it for youâ
âThank you but i wonât be nee-ding anything. My pay is more than enough for me to want any other thing. Thanks so much Mr harold for offering me such pay,itâs gonna go a long way in my lifeâ Irene said, appreciatively.
Harold smiled.. finally she said thank you instead of questioning him.
âItâs fine Irene, im so glad i brou-ght you out of that job, like i knew you werenât happy with itâ Harold said.
Irene cheeks suddenly turned red while she remembered the night they had spent together.
âGeez! Ireneâ She scolded herself inwardly.
Why would she even think about that now but that moment is unforgettable, she must admit it felt so good though, Harold had treated her gently even more than Harris do.
âWhatâs wrong?â Harold asked and Irene realised she had that sad look on.
Her facial expressions is always sad whenever she remeber Harris.
He really broke her.
âNothingâ Irene replied.
âYou sure?â Harold insisted.
âYesâ
âSo, weâre cool now right?â Harold asked.
âOf courseâ Irene smiled.
âLetâs go sit near the fireplaceâ Harold said, getting on his feet.
Irene followed him excitedly.
She enjoys watching the fireplace.
That special glow and warmth always interest her.
They both sat in front of the fireplace with their legs folded.
Harold noticed the smile on Ireneâs face.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
âYou love sitting near the fireplace too?â He asked.
âTotally! Watching the firewoods crack and burn to smaller sizes amuses me. The glow of the fire and the warmth is just so beautiful. And this p@rticular one looks more beautiful than the ones Iâve seenâ Irene said admiringly.
Harold smiled.
Irene is the first person to ever admire the fireplace in his libr@ry.
Most people have no interest in even seeing it.
â I love re-ading novels beside the fireplace too cause it always add a magical t©uçh to itâ Irene said, beaming and Harold couldnât help but admire her beauty in the glow of the fire.
âWe have that in common, i love re-ading beside the fireplace too. Like, itâs one of my favorite thingâ Harold said.
âI knowâ Irene smiled.
âReally? How?â Harold asked.
âI browsed your personal information and re-ading beside the fireplace is one of your hobbiesâ
âReally? You browsed my personal information?â
âYeah, i had to cause i kept wondering why a billionaire would want a sÂŁx worker for his daughterâs nannyâ Irene said.
âLike, why?â She asked.
âCause Y has a tail and two br@nchesâ Harold said and Irene laughed.
âI think this is the first time Iâll see you laugh so heartily, you look beautiful at it thoughâ Harold said.
âThank youâ Irene said, pressing herl-ips together.
She suddenly feel she shouldnât be here with him. Sheâs only a nanny and the rate sheâs starting to enjoy his company is too fast.
âDo you have anything against being complimented?â Harold asked, noticing the faraway look in her eyes.
âHuh? Noâ Irene said.
âYou suddenly looked withdrawnâ Harold said.
âWell, i think i should leave nowâ Irene said.
âWhy?â Harold asked, worriedlyâŠ
clas-s=”stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter”>
He canât believe he cares that she wanna leave.
Is he enjoying her company that much?
âMr Harold,i shouldnât be here with you. I mean⊠youâre my employee,im just your daughterâs nanny, i should not talk so comfortably with you. Like, itâs too soon. it doesnât feel right, i donât deserve to be here with youâ Irene said, blinking ha-rd .
âYouâre my daughterâs nanny doesnât mean i canât sit or talk with you, Iâm a billionaire does not mean you donât deserve to be seated beside me. Iâm not a god! Iâm a human like you. I know you wouldnât have said that if it was not me youâre seated with, i donât want to start seeing you as someone who makes wealthy people feel badâ Harold said, with a raised brow.
âNo, but Iâm sure you donât sit with your workers like this, staring at the fireplaceâ
âThatâs because we donât have that in common, i donât restrict my workers from coming into my libr@ry but they never come. I can sit here staring at the fireplace with any of my workers,itâs not because itâs you. Iâm relating with you like i would to any of my workers and i also want you to put my wealthy state aside and relate with me like you would a poor personâ Harold said, breathing out.
He hates ma-king the less privileged feel unworthy, it makes him feel so bad.
âI..i why are youâŠso different? You definitely donât act like a billionaire. Most of them love leaving a wi-de gap between them and the less privileged, Itâs just so⊠Thank you for being differentâ Irene said, de-eply t©uçhed by Harold personalityâŠ
âPromise me you wonât feel unworthy whenever youâre with me. It makes me feel badâ Harold said.
âI promiseâ Irene smiled, admiring the way the glow of the fire made his hair glint.
âSoâŠwe were talking about?â Harold asked.
âHuh? Yeah you were telling me a story about âYâ Which has a tail and two br@nchesâ Irene said and they both laughed.
âI love your collection of booksâ Irene said glancing round the libr@ry.
One can spend years in re-ading all of the books here.
âThank you! But most of the novels here are mystery novels, you might not find them interestingâ Harold said.
âYeah, i saw that when Nola showed me the libr@ryâ Irene said.
âBut there are few r0m@nç£novels though. I know youâll like themâ Harold said.
âHow do you know i like r0m@nç£novels?â Irene asked.
âYou look like someone who doesâ Harold said.
âReally?â Irene laughed.
âNo, i only guessed you would. Most ladies love r0m@nç£novels isnât it?â
âHmmâŠi canât speak for them but Iâm definitely among the ladies who love r0m@nç£novelsâ
âEspecially
the ones that end with âand they lived happily ever afterâ isnât that so childish?â Harold rolled his eyes.
âNo, itâs not. Thereâs nothing more sweet than re-ading a novel with a beautiful endingâ Irene smiled.
âBut you have to admit itâs childishâ Harold said.
âNo itâs notâ
âIt isâ
âItâs notâ
âIt is!â
âI swear itâs notâ
âI swear it isâ
They both laughed and silence followed.
They stared at the fireplace with different thoughts running in their minds.
âIâm starting to feel sleepyâ Irene said.
âbe-dtime. Weâve spent enough time hereâ Harold said.
They both got on their feet and Irene watched the fire once more while Harold put the book on the table back in itâs place.
âre-ady?â Harold asked.
âOf courseâ Irene yawned as they both walked out of the libr@ry.
Harold closed the door behind them and they headed to their rooms.
âGoodnightâ Irene said on getting to her door.
âNightâ Harold said and watched her walk into her room.
He checked on Ivory before finally going to his room.
___đ
âGood morningâ Ivory heard from her sleep.
Irene had walked into her room throu-gh the adjoining door.
She frowned a little bit in her sleep, knowing the voice does not belong to her father.
Heâs the one who wakes her up..
She finally opened her eyes after fighting the thought of going back to sleep.
She saw Irene bringing out her school wears.
She placed her polished shoes next to it and then opened the drawer and brou-ght out her b©dy cream with her hair comb.
âIreneâ Ivory called with a sleepy voice.
âOhhâŠyouâre finally awakeâ Irene said turning to her.
âGood morning to youâ Irene greeted with a smile.
âGood morningâ Ivory said, sitting up on the be-d.
The door opened and a maid walked in with a glas-s cu-p of water.
âGood morningâ the maid greeted.
âGood morningâ Irene and Ivory chorused.
âIvory took the glas-s cu-p of water and gulped it down her throat, she placed the empty glas-s cu-p back on the tray and the maid left.
âDid you ordered for water in your sleep?â Irene asked curiously.
âOr your dad did for you?â Irene asked.
âNo, the helps are aware i drink a glas-s cu-p of water every morning before even stepping down from my be-d. Itâs healthy, you should start doing so tooâ ivory said.
âOhh..okay, so how did they knew you were awake. Our voices werenât so loudâ Irene wondered.
âMy lights is on,you switched it on after you walked into my roomâ Ivory said.
âOhh..yes! I didâ Irene smiled.
The door opened again..
âI alre-ady had wate..â Ivory was saying but st©pped when she saw it was her father.
âDaddy!â She smiled getting on her feet.
âHey princess, good morningâ Harold said and bent to pu-ll his daughter into a hvg,he k!$$ÂŁd her forehead.
He hadnât noticed Ireneâs presÂŁnce in the room.
âGood morning Dad,how was your night?â Ivory asked.
âAwesome, i sle-pt like baby Ivoryâ Harold said ma-king Ivory chuckle.
âBut you c@mÂŁ into my room late, Irene beat you to it todayâ Ivory pouted.
âReally? Whereâs she?â Harold asked.
He had enjoyed the time he spent with her last night and he thought about her till he went to sleep.
He just like the fact that her personality is different and they share things in common.
Chatting with her had felt like he was chatting with a friend.
âSheâs right behind youâ Ivory giggled.
âHuh?â Harold asked, turning.
âOhâŠmyâ He said obviously startled when he saw Irene truly standing behind him.
Irene laughed.
âHow didnât i see you?â He asked.
âI guess you never thought youâll find me here, thatâs why your gaze was glued to Ivoryâs be-d when you walked inâ Irene said.
âThatâs true, i was starting to wonder who brou-ght out ivoryâs school wearsâ Harold said.
âGood morning Mr Haroldâ Irene said.
âGood morning, i hope you enjoyed your first night hereâ Harold asked.
âTotally, thank you so muchâ Irene smiled.
âIâm glad you did. I should be on my way nowâ Harold said glancing at his golden wristwatch.
Irene admired his simple yet clas-sic dressing.
His golden eyes suited the golden bu-ttons on his pure black shi-t.
The sleeves were rolled to his elbows revea-ling his smooth caramel skin.
His styled hair really did a good job to his looks.
This man is incredibly good looking.
âWhich of your companies are you going to?â Ivory asked.
âMarshall communicationsâ Harold said.
âWonât you have your breakfast?â Ivory asked.
âI will when i get to the officeâ
âOkay, have a nice day Dadâ Ivory said.
âYou too. Byeâ He waved walking to the door.
He held Ireneâs gaze for some seconds before finally stepping out.
âBye Nolaâ Harold called as he walked past the kitchen with two b©dyguards behind him.
âBye Harold, have a nice dayâ Nola said loudly from the kitchen.
âYou too, madam cookâ Harold said and Nola chuckled.
He walked outside and saw the car parked.
âIâm not going in this one, quic-kly make the black Lamborghini re-ady for meâ He said and the driver nodded.
___đ
Irene led ivory to the dining room after she had finished dressing her up.
She handed her hair comb to Nola while she quic-kly walked to her room to have a quic-k bath.
She dried her b©dy after she was done and got into a white flowy Sk-irt and yellow blouse.
She packed her hair into simple ponytail and then slide her feet into her footwear, she gr@bbÂŁd her phone and walked out of the room.
âI hope i didnât took long?â She asked getting to the dinning area.
âNo, i just finished eating alsoâ ivory said.
Nola was combing her hair and she packed it into pigtails.
âre-ady!â Ivory said, gr-abbing her backpack.
âBye Nolaâ She waved.
âBye girlieâ Nola said.
âIâll be right backâ Irene said and Nola nodded.
They both walked out of the door.
Tom and Eric were waiting alre-ady.
Irene almost exclaimed seeing a car different from yesterdayâs. Itâs in purple color too but totally another shade.
âYou own this one too?â Irene asked.
âYeahâ Ivory said.
âWow!â Irene exclaimed aloud.
âGood morning ivory, Ireneâ Tom said opening the car door for the both of them.
âGood morning Tomâ they chorused getting into the car.
âGood morningâ Eric also greeted and they responded.
Tom got in and Eric started driving.
___đ
âYouâre different from Ivoryâs past nanniesâ Tom said to Irene as they drove back home after dropping Ivory in school.
âReally? How am i different?â Irene asked curiously.
Nola had also mentioned it to her that sheâs different from Ivoryâs past nannies .
âFirstly, most of them look like they have plans, like they have a mission â Tom said.
âHow do you know they have plans, what if they just look that way without actually having anything in mindâ Irene said.
âI donât know but i think Iâm gifted in knowing when someone has a mission. I warned Mr Harold about Betty severally before he finally found out the devil she is.â Tom said.
âReally?â Irene asked.
âYesâ Eric confirmed.
âWowâ Irene said, thinking about Alex.
Should she ask Tom what he thinks of the creepy man?
No. She resumed here two days again and asking what a worker think of another doesnât sound good to her ears.
She shouldnât be bringing this up.
The man might be harmless, it may just be her mind misleading her but her mind never mislead her.
âSo what do you think about me?â Irene asked.
âItâs obvious youâre not here on a mission. I wouldnât have welcomed you if i thought bad of youâ
âWow, Iâm relievedâ Irene said dramatically and they laughed.
âI must say youâre naturally beautifulâ Eric said, glancing at Irene in the rear view mirror.
âThat got me blu-shing, thank youâ Irene smiled and they all fell silent again.
She was sitting with Tom in the back seat.
âSo Eric, for how long have you been with Mr Harold? I know Tom has been with him for three yearsâ Irene said.
âIâve been with Mr Harold for five years and Iâve been Ivoryâs driver for two yearsâ Eric said.
âWoah,thatâs quite longâ Irene said.
âYeah, working with Mr Harold is so satisfying that i donât wish to leave anytime soon â Eric said.
âThatâs obvious, heâs one of the few billionaires who treats his workers as familyâ Irene said.
âEveryone working un-der Mr Harold now have more than enough money to set up their life but still, no one wants to leaveâ Tom said.
âIncluding meâ He added.
âEven if i resumed officially two days ago, i can tell the type of person he isâ Irene said and couldnât hide her smile, remembering yesternight. It had felt like she was talking to a friend, not her employee.
âWeâre homeâ Eric said, driving into the open gate.
Irene sighed and picked her phone which was laying on her Sk-irt.
Eric parked and Tom opened the car door and stepped out, Irene alighted after him.
âNice talking to you guys, till tomorrow i guessâ Irene said.
âNo, if youâre bored, you can come out and talk to us.â Tom said.
âokay. Byeâ Irene said walking to the door.
âHey! Iâve never seen you so chatty. Whatâs up?â Eric asked Tom and he smiled.
He can boldly say Irene is the only nanny he likes out of Ivoryâs nannies.
She acts so different from others,so cool and responsible and she doesnât go about asking for how to sÂŁdûç£Mr Harold.
âI feel good about her, thatâs allâ Tom shrugged.
âReally? You sure?â Eric tea-sed.
âCâmon man! I have a fianceeâ Tom said with pride.
âI know, i know. Just teasingâ Eric said.
âI also feel good about her, i like the fact that sheâs so different from Bettyâ Eric said.
âMe tooâ
âIâll be backâ Eric said starting the car, he started driving towards the garage while Tom walked to their quarters.
___đ
Irene placed dishes in the dishwasher after she was done eating her breakfast.
âOnce youâre done with that, Iâll show you the rest of the buildingâ Nola said.
âOkayâ Irene said.
She missed Damien so much, he had called her yesterday and she almost cried when he said he missed her alre-ady.
Even with how comfortable she feels here, she still canât wait to go home.
âIâm done Nolaâ Irene said wiping her hands off a napkin.
âOkay dearâ Nola adjusted her apron as she stood up.
âYou so much love staying in the kitchen, donât you?â Irene asked.
âI do.. i donât know when the kitchen bec@mÂŁ my best friendâ Nola said and Irene laughed.
They both walked out of the kitchen to continue their tour of the building.
___đ
The last place Nola showed her was the pool and Irene had been tem-pted to swim but she didnât even when Nola told her that Harold have no problem with his workers in his pool.
The water looked so pure and fine.
âSo, thatâs allâ Nola said.
âReally?â Irene asked, they just pas-sed the door of a room and Irene expected Nola to tell her whose room it was.
Though, It doesnât look like anyone is living there and the door looks so different from the ones in the house.
âYesâ Nola said.
âWhat of that door?â Irene asked.
â That door? Just think of it like it doesnât existâ Nola said.
âWhy?â Irene asked curiously and Nola sighed.
âAll i know is itâs a sacred room and Harold hates anyone going there, heâll sack you immediately he finds you prying. â Nola said.
âReally?â Irene asked.
âDo not try to violate his order â Nola warned.
And as Irene trailed behind Nola, she couldnât help but grow so curious.
What could be in that room?
TbcâŠ.
