And as Irene trailed behind Nola, she couldnât help but grow so curious.
What could be in that room?

Nola will definitely know because she has been with Harold for long.
âNolaâ Irene called as they stepped into the living room.
âHuh?â
âWhatâs in the room?â She asked.
âI do not know!â Nola replied bluntly.
âReally?â
âDo not go about prying, it may lead to the end of your work hereâ Nola warned.
âOkay, just curiousâ Irene said.
âIâll be up in my roomâ she said.
âOkay, Iâll be in the kitchenâ Nola said.
âOkayâ Irene said and they both went their separate ways.
Nola sighed as she walked into the kitchen.
Everyone has always been curious about that room, canât they just act like it doesnât exist.
WellâŠwho wouldnât be curious? If she did not also know about the incidence, she would have been curious too.
âRest in peace Helenaâ Nola muttered un-der her breath.
She sat down and shook her head sadly.
Well..Helena has been gone for years now but her presÂŁnce still lingers in the house.
She was always in the kitchen with Nola, re-ady to help. Just like Irene does.
Helena had been Nola close friend, they were always in the kitchen and if they were not cooking, theyâll be chatting and laughing at funny things.
She was Haroldâs godmother and he loved her so much.
He even spends more time with her than his parents.
Their bond was unbreakable then, anyone would mistake them for mother and son.
She practically raised Harold to be ha-rd working and independent, she always told Harold not to depend on his fatherâs wealth but work ha-rd for his.
She made sure he didnât grow up as a spoilt br@t.
Harold is the only child of his billionaire parents and they were re-ady to spoil him but Helena prevented that.
Nola could boldly say Harold holds his success to Helena and God.
He was so broken when she died.
She was poisoned right in this house and till d@tÂŁ, the culprit have not been apprehended. Detectives tried all they could but they couldnât fish out the person, investigation went on for years until they finally washed their hands off the case.
She died on the same day ivory c@mÂŁ into the world and Harold was more sad than happy.
But he believed that she c@mÂŁ back to him throu-gh Ivory and he had wanted to name Ivory â Helenaâ but Carrle had refused.
Even with the love he had for Helena,he still respected his wifeâs decision.
But he made sure the name âHelenaâ was among Ivoryâs names.
Even after Helenaâs death, Harold still go to her room.
But suddenly he st©pped! and warned everyone not to ever step their feet into the room.
No one knew what happened.
Most people were so curious and they tried finding out whatâs going on,they tried violating his orders and he had them sacked.
Others learned from it and no one dared go near the room afterwards.
From Helenaâs death to harold sudden warning ⊠everything sounds so mysteriousâŠ
âHelenaâ Nola sniffed and she realised she had been crying.
She loves staying in the kitchen cause thatâs where she shared most memories with Helena.
Nola dabbe-d her tears with her apron and then placed her head on the table feeling so sad.
___đ
Irene la-id on her back staring at her ceiling, completely lost in thought.
âAll i know is itâs a sacred room and Harold hates anyone going there, heâll sack you immediately he finds you prying. â Nolaâs words echoed in her ears.
Why?
âWhat happened in the room?
Whose room is that? â Irene wondered.
Câmon Irene.
Itâs none if your business.
But her curiosity wouldnât let go of her.
âRemember curiosity killed the catâ her subconsciousness told her.
Why canât she just act like the room is not there like Nola had said.
But why would Harold restrict anyone from going into that room?
Something is definitely up.
âLet it go Irene, everyone has their little secret. Even you!â Her mind screamed at her.
âOkay okayâ She rolled her eyes.
She
picked her phone and placed a call across her Mum.
She nee-ds to divert her thoughts.
Damien would have gone to school and her Mum might be feeling bored.
đReneâ Her stepmumâs voice broke into her thoughts.
đMum, how are you?â Irene smiled.
đIâm fine Rene and you?
đ Iâm good mum. I hope Damien left you some food before leaving.
đ Of course he did, he even made my lunch in advance. My son is so caring and responsible you knowâ Mrs Neave giggled and Irene laughed.
đThatâs because i am not home. Iâm more caring you knowâ Irene said.
đYes you are, i really miss you.
đMe too mum, you must be so boredâ Irene said sadly.
đNot really, i listen to some music while i knit and Damien arrived early yesterday to keep my company. He will today too so donât bother.
đOkay Mum, but did he bring anyone home yesterday?â
đNoâ Mrs Neave lied.
đYou sure mum?
đOf course Reneâ Mrs Neave said.
Damien had begged her not to tell Irene and she wasnât even gonna tell her in the first place.
She know Irene always quarrel with Damien over the girls he brings home.
đI hope youâre enjoying your work place?â Mrs Neave asked.
đTotally Mum, it feels so great and everyone is so nice to me.
đIâm so happy to hear that. Iâll call you back Rene. My favorite TV programme is about to start.
đ OhhâŠOkay Mum. Bye.
đBye.
Her conversation with her stepmum took her mind off the room she was thinking about.
She yawned and considered taking a nap.
___đ
âWhat desert are we having?â Irene asked Nola.
They were both preparing lunch in the kitchen.
âSalad and cherry cobblerâ Nola said.
âokayâ Irene said and started bringing out the things nee-ded for it.
Nola
stirred the boiling soup on the fire and then closed it back.
Irene sniffed the aroma and smiled.
âYou really are a great cookâ She said to Nola.
âYouâre one too Irene, weâre gonna exchange ideas once weâre done ma-king lunchâ Nola said and Irene nodded.
She loved cooking.
She had so many recipes in her head, her biological mother had been a great cook and Irene inherited that from her.
âI should allow you to make the meals but Harold doesnât allow anyone else make his meal but meâ Nola said.
âI un-derstand,heâs someone who nee-d to have a cook he really trusts.â Irene said.
âYes, there are so many maids in the house but i donât even allow them join me in the kitchen. No one is to be trustedâ Nola said.
She had st©pped trusting the workers after Helena was poisoned.
She knew it was one of them. Definitely one of them but there was no proof and knowing the person who had killed Helena is still in house, terrifies her.
âAnything wrong?â Irene asked Nola.
âNo, just thinking about what to make for dinnerâ Nola said.
âOhhâŠif itâs that, thereâs a meal i have in mindâ Irene smiled.
âReally? Which meal is that?â Nola asked.
âSpiky pickle relishâ Irene said and Nola eyes wi-de-ned.
âWow! Iâve been watching videos on that meal and Iâve never gotten itâ
âIâll be glad to teach youâ Irene said.
âAnd Iâll be glad to learnâ Nola smiled glad that her lie had turned out well.
Sheâs gonna learn something!
Some lies do turn out good though.
But itâs definitely not good to lie.
___đ
Irene selected Ivoryâs house wear while Ivory showered.
Sheâs back from school and she had been so happy to announce to them that she got the highest score in her test.
She boasted to Irene that she had always scored the highest and will make sure it remains that way till she graduated.
Ivory is such an intelligent kid, sheâs a child any parents would pray to have.
Irene settled for a black leggings and blue tank t©p, she shut the wardrobe close after picking out Ivoryâs undies.
She turned to the shoe rack and selected a pair of blue sli-ppers which has white designs on it.
She dropped the clothes on the be-d and the sli-ppers slowly to the floor.
She then opened Ivoryâs drawer and picked her b©dy oil.
âIvory
are you okay?â She asked after waiting for almost thirty minutes.
âYes i am. Someone t©uçhed me without washing his hands, i have to scru-b his filthy hands off my b©dyâ Ivory responded from the bathroom.
Irene sighed.
âWho t©uçhed you?â She asked..
âA clas-smate and he always look so unkempt â Ivory breathed out angrily.
âOhh..but i think youâve scru-bbe-d his t©uçh off your b©dy enough. Youâve spent close to an hour thereâ Irene said.
âIâll be done soonâ Ivory said and she was out of the bathroom five minutes later.
âWhat!â Irene exclaimed seeing Ivoryâs skin had gone pink from scru-bbing.
âWhat?â Ivory asked, pouting.
âIvory, do you hate people tou-ching you that much?â Irene asked.
âYes, without washing their hands!â
âYou shouldnât injure yourself cause someone t©uçhed you, look at your skin. So pinkish. Does it hurt?â Irene asked worriedly.
âNo, but they know im allergic to people tou-ching me without washing their hands. They did that just to get on my nerves, they were so jealous i had the highest score againâ Ivory rolled her eyes, drying her b©dy.
âReally?â Irene asked.
âYes, theyâre all dumbas-s!â
âDoes that means you have no friend?â
âI have few friends who un-derstands my personality but the rest do claim Iâm proudâ Ivory said.
âAre you?â Irene tea-sed.
âOf course Iâm not. I talk to whoever talks to me, i accept anyone who wants to be my friend,i pl@ywith whoever wants to pl@ywith me and i never objected to anyone tou-ching me as long as you wash your hands. Does that make me proud?â Ivory asked. Invite your friends to like and follow our page #creativeafricantales
âUmm..no, it doesnât. Everyone actually have something theyâre allergic to. If they like you, they should respect you and have no problem with that but yâall are still kids. Youâll un-derstand yourselves better when youâre maturedâ Irene said.
âIâm gonna tell them that when i get to school tomorrowâ ivory said.
âFine, letâs get you dressed and go have lunchâ Irene said.
âI love the wears you picked for meâ Ivory grinned.
Sheâs glad her nanny has a great fashion s-en-se.
âWhy do you allow me dress you up even after stating i should not, in your rules?â Irene asked.
âI own my rules, donât i?â Ivory asked.
âOf course you doâ Irene said.
___đ
Nola, Irene and Ivory ate their lunch quietly in the dining room.
Harold is not back yet.
Irene missed his presÂŁnce.
Since she resumed, this will be the first time, heâll be absÂŁnt from the dining room.
But it seems Ivory and Nola are used to it alre-ady.
They ate their desert after their meal.
Irene made sure ivory took some fruits before taking her nap.
She prepared the one sheâll be taking after nap and then walked out of the kitchen.
Nola was taking her nap too.
Irene walked towards the door to go spend some time with Tom and Eric.
She nee-ded to ask them about that room too.
Itâs really bothering her.
She opened the door and stepped out.
Sheâs glad she met them seated in the compound.
Looks like they were enjoying the cool breeze after lunch .
âHey guysâ she called.
âHi, youâre hereâ Tom said while Eric smiled.
âSitâ Eric pointed to the chair beside him.
âThank youâ Irene said, sitting.
âYou finally c@mÂŁ to spend some time with usâ Eric said.
âYeah, Ivory and Nola are having their napâ
âOhhâ
âI hope you both enjoyed your lunch?â Irene asked.
âOf course it was greatâ Eric said.
âDinner will be more greatâ Irene said.
âIâm still surprised Nola allowed you to as-sist her in cooking, she doesnât allow anyoneâ Tom said.
âI think thatâs because of Mr Haroldâ Irene said.
âNo , Mr Harold had pleaded with her severally to allow one of the maids help her in the kitchen but she had always refusedâ Eric said.
âReally?â Irene asked.
âYes and she allowed you just a day after you resumed. She must really like youâ Tom said.
âIâm glad she does. I wanna ask you guys a question thoughâ Irene said.
âGo aheadâ They both said and Irene hesitated.
She sighed before finally speaking up.
âThereâs a room in this house that everyone is restricted to. Why is that? Whose room is it?â Irene asked.
âOh..my, that sacred room?â Eric asked.
âYeahâ
âWell,we were also told we are restricted to that room when we resumed .
But i heard from other workers that the room belonged to Haroldâs godmotherâs. She was poisoned to deathâ Tom said.
âWhat!â Irene screamed.
___đ
Irene was unsettled as she re-ad to ivory in her libr@ry.
She was a bit scared over what Tom told her.
She should have just kept shut and tame her curiosity.
Now she had to deal with knowing someone was poisoned to death in this house and the culprit is not apprehended yet, probably still lur-k-ing in the house.
âIrene!â Ivory called putting an end to her thought.
âHuh?â
âYou just skipped a lineâ Ivory said.
âIâm so sorryâ she pleaded and quic-kly pushed away the thought distracting her.
___đ
Irene taught Nola how to make spicy pickle relish and Nola was so glad she finally got it.
They had it for dinner and Irene was secretly glad harold was presÂŁnt.
He had obviously enjoyed the meal as the rest of the workers did.
Ivory finished eating and said goodnight to everyone.
Irene also stood up, knowing she have to re-ad Ivory some be-dtime stories.
Irene walked to her room and headed straight to the bathroom.
She brushed her teeth and took her night bath, she got into her nightwear before walking into ivoryâs room to re-ad her be-dtime stories.
Ivory had included it in her rules that she doesnât like the smell of food on her nanny before putting her to be-d.
âHey ivoryâ Irene said.
âHi, been expecting youâ Ivory said.
She was laying on her be-d, changed into her nightwear, obviously waiting for Irene.
âSorry i took longâ Irene said, sitting on the couch right beside Ivoryâs be-d.
âOnce upon a timeâŠ..â She started.
**
âThe princess was turned into a mouse by the wizardâŠâ Irene was narrating the third be-dtime story when she noticed Ivory had fallen asleep.
She stood up, she was starting to feel sleepy too.
She covered Ivory properly with her blanket, switched off the lights and then entered her room throu-gh the adjoining door.
She la-id on her be-d and closed her eyes immediately.
đ**Midnight**đ
Irene felt taps on her shoulder from her sleep.
The taps grew more fierce and she had to open her eyes.
âIvoryâ she called seeing the little girl in her room.
She ru-bbe-d her face with her palm and could see how worried Ivory looked.
âWhatâs wrong?â She asked sitting up on the be-d.
âSomethingâŠi..s in m..y roomâ ivory said and the hairs at the back of Ireneâs nÂŁÂąk stood.
âWh..what is in your room?â She asked, her heart beating fast.
âA ghost.â ivory bur-sted out in tears.
Irene suddenly remembered what Tom had told her.
Her b©dy shook in fear and she screamed hvgging Ivory very close to her.
