“Are you not hungry?” Evelyn asked.

“I… I don’t know.” The little girl answered.

“You haven’t eaten since morning, princess. You must be hungry.”

“Can I be honest with you?” She asked the older woman.

“Yes. Of course.”

“I am scared.”

Evelyn quickly sat down beside the child and reached out to hold her hands.

“Scared of what, dear?”

“Everything. I’m scared that something bad will happen to my daddy and nanny. I don’t want to lose either of them.” She sniffled.

“You won’t lose them, Aurora. You don’t need to be scared. Okay?”

“But I have been trying daddy’s number, but he is not picking up. Do you know why?”

“He went to rescue your nanny, remember? You don’t expect him to take his phone along.”

“You are right.” Aurora sniffled once again, letting out a de-ep breath. “My daddy and nanny will be alright. I trust them. And I trust mommy too… She will definitely protect them.”

“Good girl. I love the positivity. Now, come along with me. You need to eat.”

Aurora smiled as she stood up to her feet alongside Evelyn.

“You always win when it comes to the food aspect.” She noted.

Evelyn chuckled and gave out a slight shrug.

“There is a reason why I am the cook of the house, princess.”

“Yeah, right.”

They both stepped out of the room, holding hands.

«BFF’S APARTMENT»

There was a gentle knock on the door.

Ayden went to open the door. It was his boyfriend, Lake.

“Babe,” They kis-sed. “Hey.”

“How are you doing?”

“Not bad. Please come on in.”

“Thank you.”

Lake entered the house while Ayden shut the door and followed his boyfriend into the living room.

They both sat down.

“Do you want me to get you something? Drink? Food? I don’t know. Anything at all?” Ayden asked.

Lake shook his head. “Nah. I’m fine. Thanks anyway.”

“You’re welcome. Not to sound rude, but what are you doing here? You should be at work.”

“Oh, yeah. I came to check up on you and Zara. By the way,” He looked around. “Where is she?”

“Zara went out to get something from the mall. She will be back soon.” Ayden answered.

“I see. Hope she is not crying her eyes out as she did in the hospital?”

“Nope. I knocked some senses into her head and fortunately, it worked. However, I don’t know if it is a good thing or not.”

Lake pinched his brows together. “What do you mean?”

“Well,” Ayden su-cked in a de-ep breath and lowered his gaze. “I know she is hurting. Diamond’s disappearance is really affecting her. It affects me too but I’m trying to be strong.” He paused. “Zara is not okay. I can tell by the sad look in her eyes. She doesn’t want to show her emotions and I’m worried it will get worst. She has her emotions pent up and pretending to be fine. Isn’t that worse?”

Lake sighed and slung his arms over his boyfriend’s shoulder.

“She will be fine, Ayden. Both Zara and Diamond are strong girls. If I’m being honest, I think they are even stronger than you.”

Ayden chuckled and nodded his head. “You are right. They are.”

“So you see. You don’t need to worry about anything. And believe me, the police are doing everything to find your best friend. Good news will come knocking on our door very soon. Fingers crossed.”

Ayden raised his head to look Lake in the eyes.

“You think?”

“Yes, babe.”

It was silent between them for a few minutes before Ayden muttered,

“Thank you. That encouragement and hope mean a lot to me. You don’t know how much I needed it.”

“I am always here, babe. Just call me whenever you need me and I will be here like a superhero.” Lake winked, attempting to lighten up the mood and atmosphere.

Ayden laughed.

Suddenly, Lake’s phone dinged, signifying a new message.

He pulled it out of his pocket and went throu-ghthe text message.

“Oh, my God.” He gasped, abruptly standing up to his feet.

“Hey, what is it? Are you okay?” Ayden asked worriedly.

Lake’s eyes wide-ned in shock as he typed a response and then, glanced down at Ayden.

“I told you good news will come knocking on our door.”

“What do you mean?”

“I just got a notification from an unknown number,” He smiled. “I know where we can find Diamond.”

“What!?” Ayden shot up to his feet. “You are kidding.”

“Thankfully, I’m not. I’ve informed the cops. They are on their way there. I will have to go over as well.”

“I am coming with you,” Ayden stated.

“I’m sorry, babe. But you can’t.”

“Why not?”

“You are not just my boyfriend but also a civilian. Your safety comes first. I don’t want anything to happen to you, my love. I won’t forgive myself.”

Ayden hesitated. “Bu… But… Okay, fine. However, you must come back alive with my best friend. Is that clear?”

Lake nodded his head with a smile.

“Certainly.”

«COFFEE SHOP»

Zara sat down in a booth beside the window while drinking from a cup of Americano.

She lied to Ayden when she said she wanted to get something from a mall.

The truth is that she needed some space to let out her emotions.

Sean and her best friend may think she is okay but frankly, she is not okay!

How can she be when her friend who is more like a sister to her is missing?

It’s been four days since Diamond went missing and there is no single news about her whereabouts.

She had blamed Mikhail for it and that was very wrong of her. Nobody is to be blamed aside from that psychotic bit-ch .

Why was she doing this exactly? Because of a man? Isn’t that so absurd and wicked?

Zara grabbed the cup of Americano and took a sip, sniffling a little as she battle to hold back the tears threatening to fall.

She dropped the cup and look out of the window, tears rolling down her face as she started reminiscing about her crazy best friend, Diamond.

Who would ever wish such an amazing soul bad? Why are some humans so wicked and heartless? They are like beasts in human skin and don’t deserve to be amongst the innocent and good people.

Zara remembers the first day she met Diamond…

≈FLASHBACK≈

“You are ugly.” A girl said, poking Zara’s chest and pushing her backward.

Other girls – most especially the girl’s friends were all laughing. Nobody was willing to help the poor girl.

“Kneel.”

“Leave me alone.” Zara cried.

“Are you crazy? I said, kneel!”

“If she is not going to do it, push her into the pool.” A girl said from the crowd, laughing loudly.

“You heard them, right? I am going to push you if you don’t do as I say.”

Zara cried harder and dropped down to her knees, giving the girls and other students something to laugh more about.

“Get away from her.” A voice said, bringing an end to everyone’s laughter.

The leader of the bully turned around to face the girl who just interrupted their fun. She raised a questioning brow and folded her arms over her chest.

“Who are you?”

“She must be the transferred student.” One of the girls said.

“Oh, I see. You must not know who I am.” The girl stepped forward, leaving Zara behind. “I will forgive you just this once because you don’t know who I am or what you are doing right now. So run along now that I am being nice.”

“I don’t give a fuc-k about who you are. Do I make myself clear?” She glanced over at Zara. “Stop being a weak bit-ch and get over here.”

“If you dare move an inch, you are going to regret it.” The bully leader threatened, not taking her eyes off the newbie. “I can see you want to see what I can do, right?”

“Get out of my way.”

“Excuse me?”

“Bloody get out of my way, you smelly doll!”

Everyone gasped in surprise while some started laughing, enjoying the scene of the bully getting bullied. Isn’t that interesting?

“You piece of shit!” The girl tried to hit the newbie in anger but ended up falling into the swimming pool when the newbie dodged the hit and knocked the girl off her feet as well.

“A piece of advice, always know your opponent before attacking. And also, the name is Diamond.” She grabbed Zara and dragged her along out of the hall.

≈END OF FLASHBACK≈

Ever since that day, they became best friends forever. Always doing things together. And then, Ayden joined the crew. They were nicknamed the three Musketeers.

A smile played at the side of Zara’s li-ps as she stopped reminiscing.

Diamond has been strong and independent right from the beginning. She refused to be intimidated, humiliated, and abused.

Diamond taught her how to be strong and fight for herself.

Fresh tears streamed down Zara’s face but she was pulled out of her emotions by the buzzing of her phone.

She glanced down at the caller ID, it was Ayden.

Zara quickly wiped off the tears on her face and cleared up her throat before answering the call.

“Yes?”

“Hey, Zara. Where are you?” She could hear the excitement in his voice as he asked that question.

“I am…” She looked around. “in a coffee shop, drinking a cup of Americano. What is it?”

“You need to return home right now.”

“Uh… why? What is going on?”

“Diamond’s location has been found.” He said without hesitating.

Zara jumped up to her feet, grabbing other customers’ attention but she didn’t even bother to spare them a glance.

“How? When? Where?”

“I will tell you when you come home. Hurry up.” He hung up the call without waiting for her reply.

A waitress approached Zara.

“Are you okay, ma’am?” She asked.

“Here,” Zara took out some money and paid for the cup of Americano.

“Wait up for your change, ma_”

“Keep the change.” Zara cut her off as she grabbed her bag and started heading to the door. “Thanks for the services. I will definitely come back here.” She rushed out of the coffee shop.

“Okay… Thank you?” The waitress whispered and smiled before clearing the table.

«ROSA’S HOUSE»

“Hold on a sec, I will be right there!” Rosalie said at the top of her voice as she went to open the door.

“Hi.” Felix waves a little just as she opened the door.

“Fe… Felix. What are you doing?”

“I came to see how you are doing. Are you not going to let me in?”

“What? Please come in.” She opened the door wider and took a step back.

“Thank you.” Felix entered and she closed the door behind them.

“Uhm, I wasn’t expecting you to come over here.” Rosa said in a mutter.

“I know. As I’ve said, I came to check up on you and to apologize as well.”

She furrowed her brows. “Apologize for what?”

“I remember what I did last night. I’m sorry for you calling you over to the club in my drunk state.” He said.

“Well, the one who you should apologize to is Kerry… I mean, Jerry. He helped me take you home.”

“Jerry? Like the bartender?” He questioned.

“Yeah.” She nodded.

“Oh. I didn’t know that.”

She smiled. “I know. Make yourself comfortable, I will get you something to drink.”

“Okay. Thank you.”

Felix sat down while Rosalie went to get him something from the kitchen.

A few seconds later, she returned with a glas-sof juice and handed it over to him.

“Here,”

“Thank you.” He collected it and then took a sip. “Damn. Refreshing.”

She smiled. “I’m glad you like it.”

“So, did I do anything stupid?”

“Anything stupid like what?”

He shrugged. “I don’t know. You tell me.”

“Well, you didn’t do anything stupid. None that I know of.” She said.

“Ah. Thank God. I thought I embarra-ssed myself in front of you.”

“You didn’t. You have nothing to worry about.”She told him.

A comfortable silence fell between them until Felix spoke up.

“Rose, I have something to tell you…” He faced her.

“Uhm, okay?”

He hesitated, dropping the glas-sof juice on the table. “So… Uh… Woah. I don’t know where to start.”

“You can start from anywhere, Felix. I don’t mind.” She said calmly.

“Well, okay.” He moved closer to her and reached out to hold her hands. “Rose, I don’t want to beat around the bush. I am as frightened as fuc-k .” He squee-zed her hands lightly. “But I can’t hold my feelings in anymore. You deserve to know about my feelings for you.”

Rosa creased her brows. “What do you mean, Felix?”

“I like you.” He blurted out.

Her eyes wide-ned and she started hiccupping.

“Wha… What?” She stuttered.

“Listen, I know I don’t deserve you or your love but please give me a chance to show you how much I love you, Rose.”

“But… But… I don’t understand. How long have you had feelings for me?”

“Since the day we met if I’m being honest.” He sincerely answered.

“But,” She hesitated. “I don’t know what to say.”

“Just answer this question, do you feel the same way for me?” He asked, holding her gaze.

Rosalie thought about it for a while, “Felix… I’m sorry but,”

“Don’t say it.” He cut her off. “It’s Jeremiah, right?”

She bites her lower li-p and nodded her head.

“I’m sorry.”

He waved her off. “There is no need to apologize. I respect your decision.”

She smiled. “Thank you. We could be friends though. If you want that, of course.”

He hug-ged her wholeheartedly. “Friends… Sure.”

«WAREHOUSE»

Joel dropped dead on the floor, blood gushing out of his head.

Aria let out a scream, clutching Diamond’s arm very tight in fear.

Lottie stared at Denise, looking very confused.

“What just happened? What is going on?”

“This was what we were going to tell you before you shut us up and threatened to kill us.” He whimpered.

“Whatever. Will you tell me what is going on now or what?”

“Some people are here. And I recognize one of them to be the man you are crushing on.”

“Mikhail.” She breathed out.

“Mikhail is here,” Diamond whispered, staring at the closed door.

Lottie quickly rushed to Diamond and pressed the gun at the back of her head.

“Don’t fuc-k ing move or else I am going to shoot you.” She threatened. “And you too.” She said to Aria.

The door burst open and it revealed Mikhail and Rhodes.

“Well, well, well, you are finally here. Isn’t it amazing?” She snarled.

“I am not here to converse with you, Lottie. Let the nanny go.” He gro-aned at her.

“Why should I? Huh? You should even be grateful to me, you know. Do you know that this girl’s biological father is Julius Santiago? Or wait, do you know that Julius Santiago killed your late wife, Diamond? Of course, you don’t.” She smiled.

Diamond could not bring herself to look Mikhail in the eyes. She felt so guilty and shameless. Though she has nothing to do with the death but still.

Will he ever want her? Will he regret getting her involved in his life and daughter? Will he regret coming here to save her?

“Okay.” Mikhail simply answered.

“Okay?” Lottie repeated, a little bit confused.

“Julius Santiago killed my wife and believe me when I say, I want to kill that bastard but it seems like you’ve done that already.” He nodded his head at lifeless Julius on the cold ground. “So what does the nanny have to do with it?”

Lottie’s face dropped. “What?”

“I know everything that happened five years ago. Octavius enlightened me.” He said.

“Wait a minute, are you trying to tell me that you are okay with being with her? You still love her even after what I told you?” She questioned.

‘Love?’ Diamond thought, raising her gaze to look at him. Mikhail was staring right back at her. She was waiting impatiently for his answer.

“Yes.”

Everyone’s eyes went wide aside from Rhodes.

‘He loves me?’ Diamond could not believe her ears. She blinked rapidly, not knowing what to do at that point. She felt like crying, laughing and at the same time shouting. Does she deserve his love? She doubts that.

Hot tears rolled down Lottie’s face and her hands began trembling.

“How… How can you still love her? How can you still choose her? Why are you doing this to me?” She cried.

“Why did I choose her? Is that even a question? You strike the deal with Julius, remember? You are the cause of my wife’s death. That’s your sin, Lottie. And as for the nanny, she didn’t do anything wrong. She is innocent.” He said.

“Innocent?” She repeated. “Nobody is innocent in this world. No fuc-k ing body! You made me like this. You are supposed to be mine but no, you have to choose my sister over me. You brou-ght out the beast in me.” She accused.

“You’ve always had the beast in you, Lottie. Don’t blame me for the monster you have become.” He said.

She moved her gun from Diamond and pointed it at Mikhail’s face.

“I won’t give up so easily on you, Mikhail. I am going to shoot you and myself because if I can’t have you then no one else will.”

“Then do it. At least that will put an end to this madness and you will stop hurting innocent people. Go on, shoot me.” He urged, throwing his gun on the floor.

She co-cked the gun and pulled the trigger.

“No,” Diamond screamed and rushed to cover Mikhail. She squee-zed her eyes shut, waiting for the bullet to dive into her body but for over a few seconds, she didn’t feel anything.

However, the next word she heard made the air cease from her lungs.

“ELODIE!” Rhodes screamed.

Diamond pulled away from Mikhail and turned around to face her mother who was already dropping to the ground, blood gushing out of her chest and mouth.

“Mother,” She quickly caught her mother in her arms and sat on the ground. “Mother, please open your eyes. Why did you do it? Why did you cover me?” She cried.

Elodie coughed out more blood, tears streaming down her face.

“Diamond… My Diamond… Forgive me… Please.”

“Mom,” Diamond wiped bitterly, holding her mother close to her chest. “don’t leave me. I beg of you. Please…”

“I’m… I’m sorry.” Elodie coughed out more blood, her eyelids becoming heavy. “I can only…live…in…in…peace with your for…forgiveness, my child.”

“Mother…” Diamond placed her head on her mother’s chest. She can’t believe what’s happening. What was her crime to be punished like this? Her mother wasn’t a good person, she never treated her well but this wasn’t the end she wished for her.

Aria snatched Mikhail’s gun from the ground and shot Lottie severally in her head, chest, stomach, arms, and legs. She continued shooting while sobbing.

Denise was going to shoot Aria but Marcello appeared from nowhere and shot him thrice on his forehead.

Lottie’s gaze was solely on Mikhail as she dropped to the cold ground. Aria stopped shooting.

“Elodie,” Rhodes rushed to Diamond and Elodie’s side, crying as well.

Mikhail’s gaze was on them but he didn’t move an inch toward them.

Lottie kept staring at Mikhail until life departed from her with her eyes wide open.

“I forgive you, mother.” Diamond cried and watched her mother die.
