( HIS PROMISE )

«TINY APARTMENT»

“Holy shit, what happened to your face?” Joel gasped.

“Where are you two coming back from?” She asked, ignoring his earlier question.

Denise shrugged. “We just went out for a walk. That is not a problem, right?”

“Of course not. But it will be when you start disregarding what you are meant to do.”

“What do you mean?”

“Why are the prisoners left untied?” She snapped.

“Huh?” Joel frowned, glancing over to Denise. “You didn’t tie them?”

“Isn’t that your job?” Denise retorted.

“How is it my job?”

“Did you really ask me that? You should have_”

“Shut up!” Lottie cut them off angrily. “The both of you should go and tie them up immediately before I lose my temper!”

“This is your fault.” Denise accused Joel as they both began heading for the basement.

“How is it my fault? Who even suggested we go out for a walk? Huh? Answer me. This is rather your_” Their voice faded away as they entered the basement and shut the door.

Lottie let out a loud gro-an and sat down on the couch, her face hardened in anger.

Julius smirked.

“You don’t look so bad, baby girl.”

She shot him a glare. “Why did you stay back? You saw them overpowering me, why didn’t you help?”

“I don’t get involved in girls’ cat-fight. I thought you would be able to defend yourself.”

“I would have been able to if it was a one-on-one fight. It was a handicap fight. Two against one, like come on.”

“I actually thought your best friend would support you,”

“Ex-best friend.” She corrected. “That bit-ch had the nerve to bite my arm. She should thank her God that the nanny was all over me, I would have broken her into two pieces.”

Julius chuckled, leaning back into the couch, and threw his legs over the coffee table.

“What do you want to do now? You’ve gotten the nanny, what’s next?”

“You tell me.” She folded her arms over her chest. “You want revenge against Octavius for turning you over to the cops, right?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“The ball is in your court then. Do you want to kill the nanny? or use her to lure Octavius into your trap?”

Julius thought for a while, “I think the latter will make much sense. Why should I kill the innocent girl when I can use her to get the guilty one?” It was a rhetorical question that doesn’t need an answer.

“Innocent?” Lottie laughed over that. “What do you know about innocent, Julius? You are not like this, what’s gotten into you?”

He leaned towards her, pressing her back on the arm of the couch, and hovered over her body.

“What am I like, baby girl?” He raised a questioning brow, darting his gaze to her li-ps. “You seem to know a lot about me that I do not know about so enlighten me.”

“Get off me.” She growled.

“Hmm?”

“I said, get off!” She pushed him away and stood up to her feet. “Do not cross the lines, Julius. We are just accomplices and not fuc-k buddies.”

“Oh, come on. We can be fuc-k buddies too, you know?”

“What the hell? fuc-k ing no way. I belong to Mikhail. Is that clear? If your dic-k craves a p*ssy, you can simply go into that basement and choose which of the girls you want. But don’t come any closer to me.” She warned.

Julius threw his hands up in the air. “Whatever. Anyway, I will use the nanny to get Octavius to come over. What about you? What will you do to her?”

Lottie tapped her feet on the ground repeatedly, she stayed quiet for a while before saying.

“I will also use her to get Mikhail.”

“What? How is that even possible?”

She smirked, tilting her head to the side.

“If he wants to save her… then he will have to come to the place where it all began.”

“Huh?”

Joel and Denise stepped out of the basement, still arguing over unnecessary things.

Lottie moved her gaze to them. “Start packing up, boys. We are all going on a trip.”

NEXT DAY

«Ca-ssANO’S MANSION ★ KITCHEN»

“I don’t get it. Why does he want to fire her just like that? What is her offense?” Paige asked.

“The boss is unpredictable. You won’t even know what he is thinking until he says it out.” Evelyn sighed.

“I don’t like this at all. He always fires the nanny without a reason. However, I never really minded because I didn’t bond with them but Miss Chase is a completely different person. I really like her.” The young maid whined.

“Me too. As soon as she came into the house, things changed. Everywhere became so lively and different – a good different. She came with a positive vibe.” Evelyn let out a de-ep breath. “She reminded me so much of late Mrs. Ca-ssano.”

“I don’t know much about Late Mrs. Ca-ssano but I’m sure she was a good person. You keep comparing her with the nanny. And if they are alike like you always claim. Then she must be really a nice and wonderful person.” Paige stated.

Evelyn smiled and nodded her head as a yes.

The kitchen door opens and Aurora walked in, her eyes were swollen and red.

“Oh, my God.” Evelyn and Paige gasped at the same time, rushing toward the little girl.

“Aurora, what happened? Are you sick? Where does it hurt? Please talk to me.” The woman rambled.

“It…hurts…here.” Aurora placed her hand on her chest and started crying all over again.

“Come here,” Evelyn embraced her. “Why does it hurt there?”

“My nanny. I miss my nanny so much. Why is daddy firing her? What did she do? Is it because she is in the hospital and hasn’t been taking care of me? I don’t want him to fire her. She didn’t do anything wrong.” She cried.

“Shhh. Your father knows better, honey. There is always a reason for whatever he does. Trust me.”

“Evelyn?”

“Yes, dear.”

“Can you take me to my nanny?”

Evelyn pulled away from the hug to look at the little girl’s face.

“I’m sorry, honey. But your daddy warned us against going to the hospital or saying anything that has to do with the nanny. I’m so sorry.”

“Can’t you disobey him? Do you have to do everything that he says?”

“I’m sorry. I wish I can but I can’t.”

“Fine. I don’t need anybody’s help. I am going to do it my own way.” Aurora yelled and stormed out of the kitchen.

“This is bad…” Paige mumbled.

“I agree.”

«BFF’S APARTMENT»

“You need to eat something, Zara.” Ayden said.

“I’m not hungry.” She breathed out.

They heard the sound of the doorbell. Ayden quickly went to open the door.

Sean entered.

“Good morning, man.”

“Morning.”

Ayden and Sean did the bro hug.

“Where is she?”

“In the living room. You need to talk to her, man. She hasn’t eaten since she heard about the disappearance of Diamond.”

Sean quickly ran to the living room and saw his girlfriend lying down on the couch, sobbing quietly.

“Babe,” He sat down at the foot of the chair beside her. “I thought you promised me that you would eat and stop crying?”

“Sean…” She looks up at her. “Has my best friend been found?”

“Babe,”

“This is my fault. I knew her life was in danger and yet I_”

“That’s enough!” Ayden snapped, startling everybody.

“What the hell, Ayden?” Zara gro-aned, sitting upright.

“I’ve had enough of your shit, Zara. What is your problem? Is it because we are all begging you to eat and stop crying that is why you don’t want to have sense? Diamond is also my best friend and I love her as much as you do. Do you think sitting here and crying or not eating food will change anything? Do you think Diamond will be happy to see you like this? Why don’t you go out to look for her then, huh? You better get a grip on yourself and have sense. Because this thing you are doing won’t fuc-k ing repair anything. I am also pained. My heart fuc-k ing hurts. I am scared of the worse happening. Do you think I will feel any better if anything happens to Diamond? However, you are also my best friend and I can’t afford to lose you too. Lake and the rest of the cops are doing everything possible to find Diamond. The least we as her best friends can do is eat healthily, stay strong, and wait for the arrival of our friend. So you better eat that food before I fuc-k ING LOSE IT.” Ayden said and then left the house in anger.

Zara and Sean were still in shock at Ayden’s outburst.

“What… just happened?” Sean mumbled, blinking his eyes.

“I’ve been so selfish, babe. I didn’t even think about what Ayden must be going throu-ghin all of this. Oh, God.” She grabbed the plate of food on the table and started eating.

Sean stared at her with a smile on his face.

“I will get you a glas-sof water.”

“Orange juice,” She told him. “Get me orange juice instead.”

“Okay.” He kis-sed her forehead and then walked into the kitchen.

«FELIX’S HOUSE~ 2:25 PM»

“I’m so happy for you, Layla.” He said.

“Thank you. I am happy for myself too. Although, we are leaving.”

“Leaving? I don’t understand.”

“Diego wants us to go to another different country. He doesn’t want to remain here. He said there are bad memories surrounding this place. And I agree with him.” She said.

“You are leaving me then?”

“Come on, Felix. You will always be my friend. Yes, we had a past but that’s just it. A past. I am only moving away with my husband for a better and happy life for us and our unborn baby. I will always be one call away. Besides, you will have Rosa to keep you company.”

“Rosa… I don’t think so.”

“Why not?”

“Let’s not talk about that,” He brushed it off. “I wish you happiness, Layla. You deserve it.”

“Yeah… You too, Felix. I wish you all the happiness.”

“Thank you. So when are you moving away?”

“Next week. Diego is already making preparations and all that. I’m super excited.” She squealed.

“Yeah. How is Diego?”

“He is fine. He is even here with me right now. Do you want to say hello to him?”

Felix could hear the objection from Diego on the other line.

“No. I don’t think that is a good idea.” Felix said.

“Well… if you say so. Anyway, I have to go now. I need to a-ssist Daria in packing up.”

“Be careful. Don’t forget you are a pregnant woman.”

Layla chuckled. “Of course, I won’t. Bye, Felix.”

He hesitated. “Bye.”

She hung up the call afterward.

Felix let go of the tears and hung his head low. Because of his selfishness. He lost the girl that loved him genuinely as a friend and something more – Layla. He will miss her so much.

No, not because of the s-ex but because of how much she matters to him.

“I wish you happiness and all the best, Layla. Be always happy.” He whispered.

«BASEMENT»

Diamond was staring into the darkness as she lay on the cold ground.

This brou-ght back unwanted memories from her past.

Why do people emanate joy in locking her up? She wondered.

Aria was fast asleep beside her.

The girl looks so tired and unhappy.

‘It is so unfortunate you kept a friend like Lottie. Look at you now. What exactly is your offense?’ Diamond thought.

The door to the basement opened and Lottie walked in with a mischievous smirk on her face.

“Come on, girls. We are leaving.” She grinned evilly.

«MIKHAIL’S OFFICE»

He took a long drag from the cigarette and puffed out streaks of smoke.

He stared out of the window, keeping a stoic expression on.

His thoughts have been going in a circle, making him a complete mess.

He hated feeling this way. He really does.

Was he making the right decision?

( “Julius Santiago is Diamond’s father.” ) Octavius’s words were still hurting him.

Mikhail took another drag and exhaled it from his nose and mouth.

( “It was as if I was suffering for the sins of my father.” )

( “Why did she treat me so badly? Was it my fault? I didn’t do anything wrong! So why did she blame me for it?” )

( “It is not your fault that I got stabbed so stop blaming yourself for it.” )

( “I don’t get why people blame others for the sins of others simply because they are related. It makes no sense, right?” )

The nanny’s words filled his head making him let out a loud gro-an and he dropped the cigarette on the ashtray.

“What the fuc-k is wrong with me? Why am I blaming her for something that isn’t her fault?” He asked himself, leaning over the black desk.

“It is not her fault that her father is fuc-k ing Julius. She is also a victim.” He hissed. “I am so stupid. fuc-k .”

He heard a knock on the door.

“Come in,”

The door opened and Marcello, Evelyn, and Paige emerged. All looked very troubled and scared.

“What is going on?” He asked them.

They swallowed nervously.

“Uhm… Miss… Miss Aurora is missing.” Marcello stated.

It was as if the whole world came crashing down on Mikhail.

“Wha… What?”

«HOSPITAL»

Aurora alighted the cab and paid the cab man for the drive.

“How old are you, little girl?” He asked.

“Six. I will be six in the next two months. I am no longer a little girl.” She said and ran into the hospital building.

Luckily, Bernardo was just coming out of the building when he bumped into her.

“Miss Aurora,” He called out in surprise. “What are you doing here?”

“Where is my nanny? I am here to see her.” She said.

“What? Where is Evelyn? Did you come alone?”

“Yes, I came alone. No one agreed to come with me so I decided to come alone. Where is my nanny? In the ward, right?”

“Wait.” Bernardo stopped the child and heaved out a de-ep breath. “Miss Chase is not in there right now.”

“Really?” Aurora looked excited about the news. “Does that mean she has been discharged? Thank God! Daddy won’t fire her anymore, right? Yay.”

“Child, she wasn’t discharged.”

The smile on her face dropped.

“What?”

“You know what, come with me, I will call your father over.”

“Wait a minute, where is my nanny? If she wasn’t discharged, why isn’t she in the ward then?”

“Aurora,”

“Have something bad happened to my nanny? Did Lottie come here to stab her again as she did before?”

“Wait, how… how did you… Who told you?”

“I am not stupid, doc. I see the things going on around me. I just pretend to not see it, hoping that someone will tell me about it. What happened to my nanny?” She started crying.

Bernardo quickly sent Mikhail a text message.

BERNARDO: Ca-ssANO, COME OVER RIGHT NOW. YOUR DAUGHTER IS HERE.

“Aurora, come into the office with me.” He held the child’s hand and led her inside the building, taking her to his office.

«BFF’S APARTMENT»

“I’m sorry, Ayden.”

“What are you apologizing for?”

“For being such a bit-ch . I was so concerned with my feelings that I didn’t about you or how you were feeling about this whole thing. You were right. Diamond is also your best friend and you must be going throu-ghshit too about her disappearance. I was selfish and that is mean of me. I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay.”

“Have you forgiven me?”

Ayden smiled. “I was never mad at you in the first place.”

“Oh, really? You seemed pretty pissed, you know.”

“I was frustrated and scared of something bad happening to you too. You and Diamond mean a lot to me.” He wrapped his arms around her shoulder and pressed a kis-s on her forehead. “I love you both so much and I’m such a fool in not telling you guys how much you mean to me all the time. I took you two for granted and now… now I’m regretting not telling Diamond how much she means to me.” He said quietly.

“You mean a lot to me too, Ayden. You and Diamond. Hug me.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

They both hug-ged.

“Just so you know, I already ate. I finished the whole food in the pot. Hope you don’t mind?”

Ayden chuckled. “Did you also eat the raw rice and ingredients?”

“Fool!” She playfully punched his back and he let out a loud laughter, still holding her tight to himself.

The door opened and Sean entered with a smile on his face.

“Oh, guys. Come here.”

He joined the hug as well. All of them giggling.

THIRTY MINUTES LATER

«BERNARDO’S OFFICE»

Mikhail stormed inside without knocking.

“Princess,” He rushed to his daughter and knelt in front of her. “Why the hell did you leave the house like that without telling me first?”

“Where is my nanny?” She asked. “She is not in her ward. Where is she?” She cried harder.

Mikhail sighed, ruffling his hair.

“I will look for her, okay?”

“Is that why you wanted to fire her? Because she is missing?”

“No. I was stupid, okay? I have no sufficient reason. I’m sorry.” He apologized. “Come here, Princess.” He pulled her into his arms. “You scared me. I thought something bad has happened to you.”

She hug-ged him back. “I’m sorry, Dad. Don’t fire my nanny, you hear? I don’t want anybody aside from her.”

“I won’t.”

Aurora pulled away from the hug and stared at his face.

“You must find her, Daddy. And make Lottie pay for hurting my nanny.”

“How… How did…” He stared at Bernardo who simply shrugged his shoulder giving him the ‘I didn’t tell her’ look. “Okay, darling. I will find your nanny and make Lottie pay for what she has done.”

“Promise me.” She stuck out her pinky finger.

Mikhail wrapped his pinky finger around her tiny one, “I promise.”

They sealed the promise with their thumb finger and Mikhail kis-sed his daughter on her forehead.
