( THE PAST IS HERE )

(WARNING: I AM NOT WRITING THE PAST BASE ON DIAMOND’S POV. I AM ONLY WRITING TO SHOW YOU GUYS EVERY IMPORTANT DETAIL OF THE PAST AND MAKE THINGS CLEARER)

≤TWENTY-TWO YEARS AGO≥

The little girl of seven years old peeled her eyes open.

Today was her birthday, it is supposed to be a good and blessed day, right?

But why was it the opposite?

Probably because she was a product of ra-pe and her mother hates the shit out of her.

Maybe she should never have been born in the first place.

Life was cruel and mean to her.

She has thought of killing herself so she could disappear from the surface of this world and everyone, especially her mother can be happy.

But will that change anything?

Will that make the world any better?

She is just a child of seven fuc-k ing years, she should be thinking about games, friends, food, pets, and so on. But instead, she was thinking about when her life will ever get better, death, pain, and anguish.

She gro-aned tiredly as she tried to sit upright on the floor but she felt extremely weak.

How long has she been locked up in the basement with no food or water? One week.

She was serving a punishment for going to beg their neighbors for food.

What do you have her do when she hasn’t eaten for weeks and then she saw their neighbors about to throw away food simply because it got spoilt, she had no choice but to beg them for it. The woman took pity on her and decided to give her fresh food. Who was she to turn down the offer?

Apparently, that was what her mother had expected her to do. Turn the offer down and die of starvation.

If she die here in this basement out of starvation, who would care? Nobody, right?

Maybe she should just die and leave the world. The pain was getting too much and out of hand.

Why hasn’t God come to her rescue? What was taking him too long to intervene in her situation?

She finally sat up and look around the darkness, breathing in a weak manner.

There was no way she could stand up. Her legs were so heavy for her to move. She decided to crawl to the door and knock.

Knocking was a waste of time and strength for her because no matter how much she knock no one would come to her rescue. Not even her mother who is definitely around.

However, that didn’t stop her from trying.

She knocked on the door, tears rolling down her face when she started perceiving the aroma of food from the main house.

Her stomach grumbled in response and she started knocking harder, using her very last strength.

“Mo… Mom.” She croaked out, ban-ging her fist on the door.

“What is it?” The little girl heard her mother’s voice for one week.

Hope glistened in her eyes. Was she going to leave this place now? Was she finally going to step out of the dark basement and see the world again?

“Mom… Please get me out of here. I’m… I’m sorry.” She said in a raspy voice.

“You are sorry?” Her mother scoffed. “How many times have I warned you never to beg the neighbors for food, huh?”

“I’m sorry. I was hungry, that’s why.” She answered.

“What will it take from you to starve for just a few weeks? Do you want to tell the whole world that I don’t feed you? You want to make people see me as a bad person, is that it?”

“No, no… I’m sorry… I will never do it again. I promise. Please get me out of here. Please…”

“No.”

“Huh?”

“Today marks your seventh birthday and I don’t want to see your ugly face. Not today.”

“Mom…”

“Shut up! You will remain in there and starve for another week. Since you can’t starve for a few weeks and decided to beg our neighbors for food, you are going to starve for one month, and let me see who is going to give you food, you unfortunate child. Die! Just die so that I can be happy and live a long life. I hate you. If you knock on this door again, I will throw you into an ocean, dare me.”

She heard the retreating steps of her mother, stepping away from the door, still leaving her here to die.

The little girl cried her eyes out, curling herself up on the cold floor.

She hasn’t even had her bath for the week and now she sells like fish.

“Mom…” She sobbed as she closed her eyes. “I’m sorry…” The girl started trembling on the floor, bet breath picking up. “and… happy… happy birthday… to me.” She lost consciousness.

«PARK’S HOUSE ★ 4:25 PM»

“Lalalala_”

“Lottie!”

“I can’t hear you.” The girl of seven years old sang, blocking her ears.

Mrs. park walked to the girl and snapped her tiny hands from her ears.

“What is your problem? Didn’t you hear me talking to you? Have you gone nuts?”

“Leave me alone!”

“Will you keep quiet!?” She yelled angrily. “Now, apologize to your sister.”

“No.”

“I said apologize to_”

“No. I am not apologizing to Diamond. Why should I? Answer me. Why?”

“You ruined your sister’s dress which she is supposed to use for her birthday party. You should apologize.”

“Never! I am not apologizing to anyone.”

Mr. Park arrived at the scene. He was just returning from work.

“What is going on?” He asked.

“Dad!” Diamond ran towards her father and embraced him, crying softly.

“Hey, honey. Why are you crying? What happened?” He questioned.

She didn’t say anything.

“Today is your birthday. I even had to leave work early for it. You should not be crying on a special day like this, baby.” He told her. “Or at least tell me what’s wrong. Is there something else you want in the menu that wasn’t added?”

She sniffled, glancing back at Lottie.

“Lottie ruined my birthday dress.” She cried.

“Lottie did what?” The man faced his other daughter. “Why would you do that to your sister?”

“Honey, welcome.” Mrs. Park muttered, cupping her forehead.

“Thank you. What is happening?”

“I was in my room when I heard the two girls screaming when I approached them, I discovered that Lottie ruined her sister’s dress. I already asked one of the maids to get her the same dress and then I asked Lottie to apologize to her sister but she is just being so stubborn. I am tired of this girl.”

“Why should I apologize? You already asked the maid to get her another dress. Why should I apologize again?”

“You did something evil, Lottie. It is proper that you apologized so you won’t repeat it.” Her mother said.

“I don’t want to.”

“Lottie!” Mr. Park roared as he stepped toward the little girl. “I always condone your wicked act towards your sister. This isn’t the first time you are doing something like this. Sometimes you will hide her book so that she will get flogged by your teachers. Sometimes you will add dirt to her food. You’ve even pushed her throu-ghthe stairs and that has got to stop. She is your sister, your blood. You can’t keep hurting her for fun.”

Lottie started crying.

“You all hate me. Every time you will support Diamond. What about me? Am I not also your daughter? Why does it always have to be her? I hate Diamond. I hate her so much! I wish she will die and_ Ah!” Lottie screamed as she dropped to the floor, holding her now reddened cheek.

“Honey!”

“Dad.”

Diamond and her mother called at the same time, stepping closer to him.

“You shouldn’t have hit her.” Mrs. Park rushed towards her daughter and picked her up from the floor. “Lottie, are you okay?”

“Step away from her.” Mr. Park barked at his wife as he began taking off his suit and necktie.

“What do you want to do?”

“Teach this child a damn lesson. How can she say a thing like that? How can you wish for your blood sister’s death? Are you crazy?”

“You are too harsh on her. She is just a child and doesn’t know what she is saying.” Mrs. Park defended.

“Do not let me pour out my anger on you, Jessica. Please step away from that child.” He warned.

“No. If you want to hit her then hit me first!”

“Dad, please stop.” Diamond pleaded. “You know what, I have forgiven Lottie. I’m sure she doesn’t mean what she said about wishing I was dead.” She wiped off the tears on her face. “See? I am no longer crying.”

“Diamond, I only want to discipline your sister. She_”

“She is hurt.” Diamond cut her father off. “Please don’t discipline her. Unless you want to discipline me along with her.” She said.

Mr. Park sighed and left the living room.

“Daddy hates me.” Lottie cried.

“Your daddy doesn’t hate you, he is only mad at you because you refused to apologize to your sister like I had asked you to. Diamond, stay with your sister, let me go talk to your dad, okay?”

“Okay.”

Mrs. Park stood up and left the living room as well.

“Lottie, are you okay?”

“Don’t talk to me. What do you even care? This is all your fault. Daddy hates me because of you.”

“No, that’s not true. Daddy doesn’t hate you.”

“Leave me alone. I meant the words I say when I told you to die.” She stood up. “And now I am saying it again,” She hesitated. “Die.”

“Lottie…” Tears rolled down Diamond’s face.

Lottie turned around and ran out of the house.

«ELODIE’S HOUSE»

“Elodie, I can’t believe you would do something like this. Look at how awful and tattered she looks.” Alice shook her head in disappointment.

“I don’t get why you have to get her out of the basement, Alice. I really do not want to see this child’s face today.”

“Why? Because it is her birthday? Of course that can’t be the reason because judging by the appearance of this child, she has been locked up in that basement for a while.”

“So?”

“So? Did you just ask me that? This girl is your daughter for Christ’s sake. How can you treat your child like this?”

“And how is it any of your business, hmm? Answer me. She is my child after all and not yours. So why should you care?”

“Elodie, you are my friend and I will tell you the truth_”

“What truth are you telling me, Alice? You don’t know anything. I was the one who told you about my misery. You weren’t there with me from the beginning. The one who was there for me from the beginning died this same day. My mother’s death anniversary is today. It is all that child’s fault. She is to be blamed for the death of my mother!” Elodie cried.

The girl stirred in her sleep and grudgingly opened her eyes.

She was expecting to see darkness but whined when the bright light shone on her face. She squee-zed her eyes shut and opened them once again, successfully adjusting her eyes to the brightness of the living room.

She saw two people looking at her. One of them was her mother while the other was a woman she recognized to be her mother’s only friend in the town.

“Diamond, are you okay?” Alice asked worriedly as she rushed to sit beside the little girl and held her in her arms. “How do you feel?”

“I…”

“You should brush your teeth and have your shower first. I can tell you are hungry. I will make you something to eat after you do the former first. Do you need my help to bathe and_”

“Stop it.” Elodie interrupted, rou-ghly grabbing Diamond’s wrist, and started taking her back to the basement.

“What are you doing? Enough, Elodie. Do you want to kill the poor child? What is your problem?” Alice snapped holding Diamond in the other hand.

“Let go, Alice. She is my daughter and not yours.”

“I don’t care. You are hurting_”

“Mind your damn business. What I do to her is left for me to decide. If you want to play the perfect mother role then have your own child.”

“Elodie!”

Diamond gathered the strength to break her hands from their tight grip and started running to the front door.

“Where are you going? Stop.” Elodie ran after the child but the little girl already ran out of the house. “Diamond, come back here.” She screamed.

“You see what you have caused.”

“This is all your damn fault. Why did you have to get yourself involved in my family affairs, huh?”

“Listen, now is not the time to pas-sblame. We both need to go out there and look for Diamond. It is too late for her to wander around alone by herself.” Alice said and they both stepped out of the house.

«AMUSEMENT PARK»

(ANNOUNCEMENT: I ALREADY SHOWED THE PART WHERE LOTTIE AND JULIUS MET SO THERE IS NO NEED TO GO INTO FULL DETAILS ABOUT THAT SCENE AGAIN. HOWEVER…)

Julius and Lottie were heading out of the park when they came across a girl crying beside a swing.

They quietly approached her.

“Hello, beautiful girl.” Julius said, crouching down to her level.

She raised her head up to see the owner of the voice that just spoke to her.

“Who are you?”

“My name is Julius and the baby girl beside me is Lottie. What is your name?” He asked.

She didn’t answer.

“You don’t have to answer the question. But can you at least tell me what you are doing here alone? Where are your parents?”

“I… I came here alone.” She gasped out, shivering a little.

Julius shrugged off his jacket and put it around the little girl.

“Can you please help me?” She asked him, sobbing softly. “I don’t want to go back home. It is hell for me there. Please help me. I haven’t brushed, showered, or eaten for the past one week. Save me, mister Julius. I beg of you.” She begged.

He smiled and stretched out his hand for her to take.

“I will help you, angel. Just take my hand.”

She took his hand without hesitating.

“Thank you,”

He nodded. “You are welcome. Now, let’s go. This is going to be fun.”

«ABANDONED WAREHOUSE»

The girls began panicking as they arrived on a path filled is bushes, creepy insects, and so on. There was no sign of humans. Maybe it is because of the late hour. Or maybe not.

“Where is this place?” Lottie was brave enough to ask.

“My home. You don’t like it?” He asked darkly.

“Wait, this is really your home?” She scrunched up her face, looking around. “How can a human life in a place like this?”

“Well, a human who can survive anything like me could. Besides, you both are going to be staying here for a while. You don’t like it?” He asked again.

“If I am being honest… I don’t.”

He turned his gaze to the other girl.

“What about you, hun?”

She swallowed nothing as she felt too exhausted and weak to talk.

“I… I don’t mind.”

“Good girl. You should be more like her, baby girl.” He said to Lottie and pushed the two girls inside the building.

•••••

≤TWO WEEKS LATER≥

“This wasn’t our agreement! I want to go home. Take me out of here.” Lottie screamed, ban-ging the door with her tiny fist.

There was no response.

“You,” She turned to the other girl behind her. “Why aren’t you doing anything? Don’t you want to get out of here?”

“I am used to being locked up and ignored. Just stay back, he would come back when he is ready.”

“What? Well, I am not used to this. I want to leave here. I hate this place.”

“Then keep knocking.”

“Are you okay here because he is feeding you? Are you a homeless kid?”

“I am not homeless and you are right. I am fine here because he gives me food. Is that bad?”

Lottie stopped knocking and came to sit beside the girl.

“Why have you stopped knocking?”

“You are probably right. He will come for us when he is ready. But do you think we are kidnapped?”

“We voluntarily came here with him, remember? He didn’t force us.”

“Yeah…” It was silent for a moment. “By the way, I am Lottie. What is your name?”

“Diamond.”

Lottie’s eyes wide-ned. “Your name is Diamond?”

“Yes.”

“Wow. What a coincidence.”

“What do you mean?”

“My sister’s name is Diamond and I hate her.”

“Should I ask why you hate her?”

“No. Anyway,” Lottie focused on Diamond and smiled. “you are nice and nothing like my sister.”

“Uh… I guess?”

“Do you want to be my sister then?”

“What?”

“Be my sister, please?”

Diamond hesitated before nodding her head with a small smile on her face.

“Okay. I will be your sister.”

“Yes! I hate humans so consider yourself lucky to be my sister.”

The door unlocking caught their attention. Julius walked in and he was looking so different from the man who approached them in the amusement park.
