BFF’S APARTMENT**

Diamond and Zara’s laughter filled the room, echoing throu-ghthe four corners of the wall.

Ayden sat down opposite from them, watching them closely with his brows creased.

The girls have watched the video over five times and yet they still find it entertaining.

Zara took a handful of popcorn and threw it inside her mouth, laughing very ha-rd to the point of releasing tears from her eyes.

Diamond was no different.

Ayden let out a de-ep breath, shaking his head. “How is the video still entertaining?”

“You won’t understand. What do you even know?” Zara said in between laughter, rewinding the video to the beginning. “Look at Felix’s face…fuc-k .”

“Dad wouldn’t have stopped if I didn’t intervene.” Diamond stated.

“Why did you intervene?” Zara asked, frowning.

“Because…what if someone saw the scene and called the cops on father, huh? And besides, I think the beating he got is enough.”

“Enough?” She scoffed. “That jerk deserves a beating worse than this. His eyes should have been plucked out of its socket or no, his dic-k should have been chopped off. You fuc-k ed up big time in intervening.”

“I’m glad your father taught the animal some lessons.” Ayden said.

“Me too. But honestly,” Diamond heaved out a de-ep breath. “I kinda felt bad for Felix. I hope he is okay and_”

“Do you still love him?” Zara popped out the question, cutting Diamond off. “Answer me, do you?”

“What? No!”

“You almost sound like you still do, babes.” Ayden mumbled.

“I thought I was the only one who noticed.” Zara rolled her eyes.

“You two don’t understand…”

“Fine. We don’t want to understand.” Zara gro-aned. “That bastard hurt you very badly. Because of him, you lost your job as a writer, and not only that, but you also lost your inspiration and concentration to write. In fact, Felix doesn’t deserve this beating but rather deserves to be drowned in a pool of blood.”

“Okay, I support everything you just said but damn girl, you are evil.” Ayden chuckled.

“I lost my best friend for a whole two weeks.” She sniffled and glanced at Diamond. “And even now.”

Diamond frowned. “What do you mean?”

“Look at you,” She began. “you became a s-ex freak. Love is like a game to you now. That’s not who you are. I’ve known you long enough to know how much you value the word love until that animal broke your heart and trust. He turned you into something you are not.”

Diamond gulped, lowering her gaze.

“You might be here with us but honestly, I still miss you. The old you.” Zara said in a mutter, sighing.

How long has her friends been feeling this way? Diamond wondered, biting her lower li-p as she stared at the both of them.

Did Felix really turn her into something she’s not? Maybe. But does she want to turn back to her pathetic old self? Maybe not.

“Why is it suddenly serious now?” Ayden cleared his throat, trying to get rid of the awkward silence. “Are you two hungry?”

Zara smiled. “I am. What about you, babe?” She asked Diamond.

“Uh…yeah.”

“Okay then. Let’s go and prepare something to eat.” He stood up.

“Wait, are we to join you in the kitchen?” Zara asked.

“No. Wait here while I make you something to eat since you are the queen and I’m your chef. Will you two get your a-sses off that couch and come with me to the kitchen?” He said in a commanding tone.

“Bu…but…”

“NOW.” He roared, going into the kitchen.

Diamond laughed, coming up to her feet, and then dragged Zara up to her feet as well.

“We should better listen to him now that he is still talking to us nicely.” She whispered.

Zara rolled her eyes. “What can he possibly do, huh? I will break him into pieces if he dares tries anything funny.”

“Oh, really?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“ARE YOU GIRLS STILL THERE?” Ayden shouted from the kitchen.

“WE ARE COMING, STOP SHOUTING.” Zara yelled.

“Oh, fuc-k . Calm down. You almost damaged my eardrum.” Diamond said in between laughter.

“Ugh. I hate that boy I call my best friend. If he knew he wasn’t going to cook for us, why did he ask us if we were hungry?”

Diamond shrugged. “I guess it was all a trap.”

“And we stupidly fell for it.”

“Because we were hungry. Who would blame us?”

MIKHAIL’S OFFICE**

“What?” Mikhail turned to face Marcello. “Are you sure about this?”

“Yes, boss. I asked Boaz to do some background checks on her. Octavius married her single mother and then adopted her as his daughter.”

“How long has he been married to her mother?”

“Ten years. And oh, there is something else you should know about Miss Chase’s biological father.”

Mikhail knitted his brows. “What is it?”

DIEGO’S HOUSE**

“Ma’am?” Daria knocked on the door for the third time but there was no answer. “Ma’am, are you in there?”

The doorknob suddenly twisted and the door was pushed open. Layla was standing there, wrapped in a white towel. Water was dripping from her hair and her body was we-t which means only one thing; she just finished having her bath.

“What is it, Daria?” She calmly asked.

“I’m sorry for disturbing you, ma’am but you have a guest.”

“A guest?” Layla frowned.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“I’m not expecting anyone. You know what, go downstairs, I will be there shortly.”

“Okay, ma’am.” The maid look like someone who was going to say something but refrained from doing so.

Layla shut the door closed.

TWENTY MINUTES LATER

She came downstairs, dressed in a floral print gown, and pulled her hair up into a high ponytail.

She looked around in search of her guest when she caught sight of someone lying lifelessly on the ground.

Her eyes wide-ned. “Daria,” She called.

Daria rushed out of the kitchen, holding a glas-sof water. “Yes, ma’am.”

“Who is that lying on the floor?”

Daria darted her gaze upon the guest and gasped. “Oh, no. He asked me to bring him water which I went to get.” She gestured at the glas-sin her hand.

“Who is that? How can a guest be lying on the floor like that? Are you sure the person is not a madman or something?”

“It is your best friend, ma’am.”

Layla’s face dropped. “What?”

“It is Mr. Felix. He came around looking so tattered and beaten up.”

“Why will you let him in without asking for my permission?” Layla retorted.

“Be…because he is your best friend?” Daria answered, not sure if that was the right word to use. Her madam looked quite pissed.

“Felix,” She kicked his legs but there was no response. “Felix, you can’t be here. Wake up.” She kicked his legs again, but there was still no response. “Felix…” She walked closer to him and gasped in shock, her eyes wide open. “What the fuc-k happened to his face?”

“I don’t know. He came here looking like that. Maybe he got into a fight with some group of thugs.”

“Oh, God. Call 911 immediately.” Layla instructed.

“Yes, ma’am.” Daria dropped the glas-scup on the table and went to get her phone.

“What happened to you, Felix? What did you do to get beaten up like this? And why did you come here instead of going to the hospital?” She cried, holding him to herself.

A few minutes later, Daria returned to the living room.

“Have you called them?”

“Yes, ma’am. They are on their way here.”

“Good.”

MAIDS’ QUARTER**

Paige walked in to find Evelyn on the bed ma-ssaging her waist.

“Are you okay?” The young maid asked, frowning.

Evelyn sighed. “Yes, dear.”

“What happened to your waist? Did you fall?”

“Something like that.”

“Ah, Evelyn. I’ve told you to always be careful. Stop hurting yourself. It is heartbreaking to watch you in pain.”

Evelyn smiled. “I’m fine, dear. Where is Aurora?”

“She is in her room. She’s very pissed.”

“At her nanny?”

“Yes. She is scared that what happened before is going to repeat. But at least she’s glad about one thing.”

“Which is?”

“I’m the one who picked her up from school and not her aunt.” Paige sat down on the bed. “Speaking of her aunt, I haven’t seen her for a while now.”

“She returned today. That girl has been looking for Miss Chase, I don’t why.”

“Probably to continue the bully. What is wrong with her?”

“Paige,”

“Yes, Evelyn.”

The woman hesitated. “Can you keep a close watch on Lottie?”

Paige knitted her brows in confusion. “Why should I do that?”

“Because…” She paused. “You know what, never mind.”

“Is there something you aren’t telling me, Evelyn?”

“Something…like what?”

“I don’t know. But you seem to know something about this lady that I don’t. And I’m sure you do because you’ve worked longer for the boss than I have. Is Miss Lottie a bad person?”

Evelyn reached out to hold the girl’s hand. “She is not a bad person. She’s just someone who has done a lot of uhm, bad things. She is sick and needs help.”

“What?”

“Paige, there are some things better off not knowing.” She squee-zed her hand lightly. “Lottie’s case is one of those things.”

LOTTIE’S ROOM**

★“I didn’t do anything to her.”★

★“I know.”★

★What? You know?”★

★Of course. I am not dumb. It was very obvious that she was lying.”★

★Wow. You knew she was lying any yet you did all that to me? You yelled at me and pushed me to the ground when you knew I was innocent of the accusation?”★

★Were you really innocent?”★

★“What?”★

“Think about my words carefully, Lottie.”★

Lottie balled her fist, her eyes filled with anger.

“That little beast. She is the cause of all these happening to me! Why? Why does she love that nanny so much? I am her aunt for fuc-k sake!” She cried bitterly, biting her lower li-p to the point of bleeding.

★“I told you that whatever you do make sure you are in mutual understanding with my daughter. She’s the only one who has the right to fire that nanny.”★

“Aurora…you are becoming a thorn in my flesh. Just like your useless mother.” She growled. “How do I get you out of my way?” Her eyes suddenly came upon a picture frame on the dressing table, she frowned and stood up from the bed. She walked over to the picture and lifted it. A smirk appeared on her face as an idea struck her, and she wiped off the tears from her face. “I think I know what to do to crawl my way into your heart, little Aurora.”

MIKHAIL’S OFFICE**

Marcello bowed and left the office.

Mikhail continued staring at the one picture that had the face of his daughter’s nanny.

She looked so happy while embracing his worst enemy.

Was she here on a mission?

★“Can I tell you a secret? I am here because of the boss and not his kid. Shush, don’t tell anybody.”★

★“I have a crush on you…”★

★“Kill that attraction you have towards me because I will never fuc-k you.”★

★“I am a product of ra-pe.”★

★FLASHBACK★

“And oh, there is something else you should know about Miss Chase’s biological father.”

“What is it?”

“It turns out to be that Miss Chase’s mother was ra-ped which led to a pregnancy. No one heard about the rapist…whether he is dead or alive nobody knows.”

“I see. Marcello,”

“Yes, boss.”

“I want you to do some research and find out who the nanny’s biological father is.”

“Okay, boss.”

★END OF FLASHBACK★

★“I was alone in this world. No friends, no mother’s love It was as if I was paying for the sins of my father.”★

His mind wandered off to Marcello’s words.

★“Octavius got married to Miss Chase’s mother and then adopted the nanny as his daughter.”★

★“How long has he been married to her mother?”★

★“Ten years.”★

‘Judging by how excited she looked in the picture, the nanny must have a wonderful relationship with the bastard, Octavius.’

Mikhail’s face hardened.

“Is she helping him as a means to show her gratitude? Because obviously, a girl who lacks love will be in desperate need of it.”

★“I owe her my life, daddy. If she hadn’t saved me, I would have been dead by now.”★

★“She jumped right in front of the running van to save a stranger. She saved me, daddy.”★

‘How come was she there at a time like that? Was it all just a coincidence?’

★“What’s your name, handsome? I’m Diamond Chase, by the way.”★

‘Why didn’t she use her stepdad’s last name? Whose last name is Chase? Because obviously, her mother will take the last name of her husband and the nanny will take the last name of her adoptive father. However, she goes by the name Diamond Chase, why?’ He tilted his head to the side, crumpling the picture in his hand. ‘Did she change her name on purpose? Or are they all coincidences?’

★“You might be the boss but you are being controlled by your daughter and guess what, she loves me.”★

‘She knows my weakness is Aurora and she is using it to her advantage.’ He tilted his head to the side. ‘She saved Aurora from getting hit by a van which makes Aurora feel so much indebted to her. Why would she save a kid when she doesn’t like them? She accepted the job as a nanny even though she hate kids. She bears the name of my late wife. She doesn’t answer the last name of her adopted father. She has a crush on me when she barely even knows me. According to her confession, she was here for me and not my kid. She is a great actress, but not after that stunt, she pulled to frame Lottie up. Are these all coincidences?’ He wondered.

He stopped crumpling the picture and glanced down at it.

‘It can’t all be a coincidence. They say, when a coincidence exceeds three, it is no longer a coincidence.’

His eyes darkened and he gritted his teeth. “Who the fuc-k are you?”

*****

AURORA’S ROOM**

There was a knock.

“Nanny? Come in.”

The door flung open and Lottie walked in.

The smile on the child’s face immediately faltered. “What do you want?”

“I can see you are not happy to see me.”

“Why should I be?”

“Do you hate me this much?”

Aurora rolled her eyes. “You are very confused, Miss Lottie. One time you are nice and the next, you are mean.”

Lottie nodded her head, looking sad. “I know. I’m sorry.”

“Did you just apologize?”

“Uh…yes?”

“Wow. That’s shocking. I can’t believe my ears right now.”

“Ah, stop exaggerating. I apologize sometimes when I do something wrong.”

“Sometimes, I see.”

“Can I seat?” Lottie questioned.

“Is there a reason why you are here?”

“I won’t be here if I have nothing to say, Aurora.”

Aurora sighed with a slight shrug. “Alright then. Seat.”

She smiled. “Thank you, dear.”

They both sat down at the edge of the queen-size bed.

Lottie let out a de-ep breath and gave Aurora a framed picture. “I brou-ght this for you.”

The kid frowned, staring at the two young girls in the picture. “Who are these girls?”

“Your mother and I.” Lottie answered. “I am the brunette and your mother is the_”

“Blonde.” Aurora completed the sentence, not taking her eyes off her mother’s beautiful face. It was the younger version of both of them. “How old were you two?”

“Hmm, six years.”

“Wow. You both…don’t really look like sisters.”

Lottie chuckled. “Well, I’ve heard that phrase countless times.” She sighed. “I know you don’t know much about your mother however, I’m willing to tell you everything you need to know about her.”

Aurora’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Really?”

“Yes. All I ask is for a chance to be your friend. I’m sure your mother doesn’t like the way we don’t hang out. Besides, she pleaded with me to take care of you even before you were born.”

“Really? Were you both close?”

“Of course. But as we become older, we grew apart but nothing changes the fact that she’s my one and only sister and I love her to death.”

Aurora smiled and grazed her fingers over her mother’s face.

“She is beautiful.”

“Just her?”

“You too.”

Lottie smiled. “Aw, thank you, princess.”

“Hmm. Now that I think about it, you are not as bad as I thought. You were only going throu-ghthe pain of losing your only family and sister.”

‘It worked. It fuc-k ing worked! Ah, sister, you keep helping me without even realizing it. I said it, the heavens are on my side.’ Lottie said in her mind, smirking discreetly.

“So, are you going to give your aunt a chance?”

Aurora hesitated. “On one condition.”

“Which is?”

“Let me have this picture. Seeing my mother’s face this close makes me feel happy and at peace. She might still be a kid here but I can still feel the bond.” Aurora said.

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Okay. You can have the picture and be with it for as long as you want. However, we are going to be friends. Promise?” She extended her hand for the child to shake.

Aurora’s li-ps stretched into a smile and she embraced Lottie instead of shaking her hand.

“Thank you, thank you so much. You don’t know how much this means to me. Thank you, aunt Lottie.”

‘Aunt Lottie..’ She smiled with the side of her li-ps. ‘I think I’ve crawled my way into the little beast’s heart.’

AN HOUR LATER★6:25 PM**

Diamond returned home, looking tired.

She was heading to the stairs when she sighted the boss seated at the bar, drinking.

Diamond contemplated whether to go to him or not. After a while, she decided to go to him.

“Good evening, boss.” She greeted, smiling.

Mikhail’s ha-rd gaze came upon her.

Diamond bites her lower li-p, she was used to his glare but there was something different about the glare he was giving her now. His eyes held hatred and anger, and they seem to be for her.

“I…uh…I will_” She wasn’t able to complete her sentence as Mikhail rose to his feet.

He stepped closer to her, pulling his hands out of the pocket.

Diamond felt so small in his presence.

‘fuc-k , I should have quietly gone up to my room. Why did I come to him? I’m sure he is mad at me for not picking up his kid.’ She thought to herself.

Mikhail’s face darkened and in a flash, he wrapped his hand around the nanny’s neck.

‘What the fuc-k ..’ Diamond shrugged to release herself from his hold but he was fuc-k ing strong. His hand tightened around her neck. He was ready to end her life right there.

“I…I ca…can…can’t bre…breath..” She choked out, staring at him pleadingly.

Mikhail creased his brows and tilted his head to the side, staring de-eply into her eyes.

They both held each other’s gazes.

Slowly, he moved his gaze to her li-ps…a smirk appeared on his face as he loosened his hand around her neck but didn’t pull away.

Diamond su-cked in air whilst coughing but she didn’t step away due to the fact he was still holding her neck but it was not tight enough to end her life.

“Killing you isn’t the best option,” He mumbled. “But turning the table around to my favor is the best option there is…” He leaned closer to her face. “He won’t know what hit him.” With that said, he slammed his li-ps against hers.
