?Narrator’s pov?

It was empty…

Not just the house but her heart was also feeling the emptiness.

They say ones anger can cause a bigger problem from him or her.

She never believed until now…until her anger made her do something she regret so much.

….until her anger made her turn her back against her daughter. Her baby. But come to think of it, should anger be blamed?

After all she wasn’t fully angry when she made that reckless decision,,,she was only trying to look out for her child. She only wanted the best for Gwendolyn but why does it feel like she has made a very wrong decision?

Mia stood up from the bed and walked out of Gwen’s room, looking very sad and depressed.

It hasn’t been up to two days since her child left for New York and she was already feeling her absence.

Will she ever be able to live her life without her daughter around?

Will she ever live a comfortable life?

Damn, what have she done to herself?

Mia dug her phone out from her pocket and glanced throu-ghher contacts when she sighted the one number she has been trying not to call.

She miss her daughter so much. She miss her very badly…they say one can only let go of something if he or she made up their mind to.

She did just that. She made her mind up to let her daughter go and now, she was regretting it already.

She was going to clic-k on the number when she heard a soft knock against the wooden door.

Mia hurriedly wiped off her tears and dropped her phone on the couch before going to answer the door.

She opened the door to find Rachel and Joanne, her two friends at the doorstep, smiling at her.

“Hey!” They greeted her cheerfully, walking inside the house without even waiting for an invite.

Mia rolled her eyes slamming the door shut behind them and trailed after them from behind.

They got to the living room and sat down, letting out a de-ep breath of relief.

“I’m very thirsty.” Rachel announced, giving Mia the I’m_your_guest_get_me_some_water look.

“You should have gotten water on your way here,” She huffed. “Gwendolyn, can you please…” She stopped talking as soon as she realized her foolishness.

Rachel and Joanne stared at each other while shaking their heads at their friend’s stupidity.

Mia gulped hard, running her fingers throu-ghher hair. “I…I will get you guys the water,” She turned to leave but Rachel stopped her.

“Don’t worry…i will get it myself.” Rachel stood up to her feet and walked inside the kitchen to get the water.

“Seat,” Joanne offered her friend calmly, Mia hesitate for a while before sitting down beside Joanne. “Are you okay?”

“Why will you be asking me that? Of course, I’m okay.” She replied, lowering her gaze to the floor.

“You miss her, don’t you?” Mia stayed mute. “It’s okay to miss her, Mia. Besides, she’s your daughter. And everyone in town miss her as well.”

“I’m fine.” Mia said, maintaining her cool.

Rachel returned with three gla-sses of yea and handed each to her friends then took hers and sat down by Mia’s left side.

“You didn’t cook.” She pointed out.

“I’m not hungry.” Mia mumbled under her breath.

Both Rachel and Joanne sighed. “You know you shouldn’t have ship her off, right?”

“Excuse me?” Mia glared at Rachel who just said those words.

“I know you are mad at her for fighting those thugs but you went too far by shipping her off to an unknown land.” Rachel shrugged.

“Why do you guys keep making use of that word? I didn’t ship my daughter off for prostitution,,,not like she will even make a good prostitute,” She said, indirectly referring to Gwen’s way of dressing. “And the man who took her to New York is her father not just any man, okay?”

“I’m sorry for making use of the word, ‘ship’ but nothing still change the fact that you sent her off. Gwen doesn’t know any one in New York aside from her father. And she loves Boston. This town is life her home, her life, her…”

“Brooklyn is also her home, Rachel. Brooklyn is her life as well.”

“Brok… Brooklyn?” Rachel questioned in confusion.

“It’s a part in New York. Her father was born and bred there which practically makes Brooklyn her home as well!” She furrowed her brows at Rachel. “And what even gave you the right to question my decision? Weren’t you the same person who told me about my daughter fighting two strong, giant and fearless thugs? Huh? Weren’t you the one who reported her to me?”

“You have got to be kidding me!” Joanne said under her breath, staring at Rachel in surprise.

“What? Why are you staring at me like that?” Rachel asked Joanne.

“I can’t believe you were the one who reported that innocent girl to her mother. And what’s so bad with her trying to defend that poor girl?”

“I didn’t report her. I was only looking out for Mia’s daughter. You know how protective and possessive Mia can be when it comes to her child. She can even die for her. And obviously, those thugs were very strong and powerful and our tiny Gwen was no match for them but she proved me wrong. You needed to have seen how she dealt with them…they were even crying like kids, asking Gwen for forgiveness….damn, that scene reminded me of David and Goliath.” She stopped talking, smiling. Mia and Joanne were just staring at her, not saying a word. “Why are you guys giving me that look?”

“You didn’t tell me she handled them well.” Mia said.

“You didn’t let me speak finish before you hung the call up. But,” She paused. “didn’t you listen to her explanation?”

“I was too angry to listen!” Mia said angrily. “fuc-k,”

“Did you just swear?” Joanne asked her, watching her closely.

Mia just rolled her eyes, looking away as if nothing just happened.

“What are you going to do now?” Rachel asked Mia, breaking the silence that had fallen between them.

Mia shrugged. “Nothing.”

“Nothing? You are just going to live here in Boston without your daughter?” Joanne questioned.

“What else do you expect me to do? Go to New York and ask Denise to give her back?”

“Honestly…you made a very wrong decision.” Both Joanne and Rachel said, shaking their heads.

“I know.” Mia sniffed. “I…i couldn’t even bide her goodbye. I… didn’t hug her or tell her how much I love her…I just couldn’t bring myself to look at her when she left…I…” She cried.

“Wait, are you crying?” Rachel asked, surprise were evident in her voice.

“Is that question you are suppose to ask?” Joanne shook her head at Rachel, wrapping her arms around Mia and pulled her against herself, consoling her. “I’m sure everything will be alright, okay?”

?Brenden’s pov?

“Brenden, get back here! I’m still talking to you!” Dad said at the top of his voice, as soon as we walked into the house.

“What more do you want to say, huh? About how useless I am? About what a failure I am? or about how unfortunate you are to have a son like me! Tell me! What more do you have to say?”

I know I shouldn’t be doing this right now.

I know the best thing for me to do was to walk away and ignore every shit he says.

I know I promised my baby sister and my mother not to fight or argue with father.

I know I should behave like a good son and live my life according to how my father planned it so as to get to his good side.

I know…but, I’m tired!

I’m fuc-king tired of trying to be reasonable with this man!

I’m tired of living my life to please him just because I want him to love me!

I’m tired of taking all of his insult and then pretend like nothing ever happened.

I’m fuc-king tired.

How can a father decide to choose a path for his child regardless of what the child wants?

How can a father be this mean and heartless towards his own flesh and blood?

When he talked to me about ‘this meeting’ with his partner…I thought finally maybe I could prove myself to my father.

I thought maybe he has finally decided to love me even if it was just for a moment but I was so wrong…

This man I called my father just wanted to introduce me to his partners as his heir to his freaking business! He wants me to take over his work as a politician,,,like seriously, who fuc-king does that? Apparently, my father.

You guys might not know about this but my father is into politics and truth be told, I don’t want to be like him but little did I know that he has made a path for me to continue his legacy as a politician….like what the hell?

“How dare you speak to me that way, young man?” He was burning with rage,,,me too.

My mother and sister descended the stairs to see the commotion between my father and I.

“I’m sorry sir but I will never be a politician.” I said.

“I am your father and I am the one to make that decision for you.” He said.

“What’s going on with the both of you again? What is the meaning of all this? Can you both ever stop fighting, huh?” Mother asked angrily, glaring ha-rd at…wait, it wasn’t at me but rather at father.

“Ask your damn son! Ask him why exactly he doesn’t want to become a politician! Ask him!” He spat.

“Simple question that needs a simple answer,” I cut in just when my mother was going to talk. “I don’t want to be into politics. I want to study engineering…how bad is that?”

“Engineering?” He scoffed. “No son of mine will study engineering when his father is into politics, okay?” He said sharply.

“What so bad with his choice, Eric?” She asked her husband, watching him closely.

“Everything, okay? What does this useless son of yours knows that made him want to study engineering?” She scrunched up his face, acting to be disgusted.

“ERIC!” Mother called sternly. “Do not call my son use…”

“Mom,” I cut her off. “It’s fine. I’m use to all of this insult right from the moment I clic-ked four…” I sighed. “I am useless…fine but I don’t want to take after you besides,” I clic-ked my tongue and nodded my head at Alexis, who just stood still, watching the drama before her quietly. “why will a useless son like me take over your business, when your wonderful child is just few miles away?” I shook my head and walked away, completely ignoring his continuous calls.

“Knock, knock!” I heard Alexis’s voice from the closed doors.

“Who is there?” I replied.

“The interrupting cow?” She said jokingly.

I laughed. “Get in here, interrupting cow.”

She turned open the door and walked in, holding a plate of…I don’t know. She was grinning.

“Hey,” She sat down beside me on the bed and dropped the plate of cereals on the bed _it was in between me and her_ “How are you feeling?”

I shrugged. “Annoyed? Sad? unhappy? depressed…? Should I go on and on?”

“Please don’t.” She stated. “You didn’t come out for dinner.”

“I’m not hungry.” I responded with a de-ep sigh.

“Let me guess, because of your heated argument with dad?” She raised a questioning brow at me.

I rubbed my palms over my face. “I’m so sorry you had to see that. I… I never bargained for it.”

“It’s fine. I’ve always seen how dad treated you and honestly I don’t blame you for losing control.” She said. “Here, I brou-ght this cereals for you to eat before going to bed.”

“Let me guess, you haven’t eaten.” I said, taking a spoonful of cereals.

She chuckles. “You got me.”

“You know you can’t keep doing this. If i don’t eat, you don’t have to starve yourself as well.”

“Hey, you can’t stop me from loving you, big bro. I love you so much, you know that right?”

I laughed. “Let’s eat. Did you bring your spoon along because I know for a fact that you know I’m going to invite you to eat with me.”

“I…only brou-ght one spoon.” She smiled sheepishly at me.

I shook my head at her, “You are so…I don’t even know what to say to you right now. We will have to share this one spoon then.”

“Now that’s the reason why I didn’t bring two spoons along.” She winked. “Oh, just so you know, I love that side of you…you were so manly as you spoke up against father.”

“Are you suppose to speak bad against your loving father?” I teased.

“Shut up.”

“Tell me, Is Rowan this manly?” I smirk-ed.

“Of course. Rowan is far better than you,” She paused. “He’s cute, you are not,” wait, what? “He’s caring, you are not. He’s friendly, you are not. You definitely can’t compete with him for that. But, one thing him or anyone can’t compete against you for is the fact that you are my big wonderful brother and I love you more than anything in this world.”

“Including Rowan?” I asked.

“Including him.” She laughed softly. “Now let’s eat quietly. ”

“Wait, before we eat, I have a question…”

“What is it?”

“Is Rowan really cuter than me?” Hey, don’t give me that look, I’m only curious, okay?

“I’m his girlfriend, you don’t expect me to be against his looks, do you?” Oh, I get it now.
