?Chapter Seven <7>?

?There is more to the hate?

“Common person between the both of them? Should that be our main concern?” Clayton asked, staring in between the two ladies seated opposite from him.

Zoe shrugged. “That’s all we can think of.”

He sighed, leaning close to the table. “I think our main focus should be the relationship between this two women. if it was really one person who killed this two women then there should be some kind of connection between the two women. If we could find out this connection then there is a possible chance on getting who the common person is.” He suggested.

Both Zoe and Gina nodded their heads to his suggestions. It was a great suggestion but yet Gina doesn’t seem satisfied. Maybe it was because it was coming from him and not from her. Or Zoe.

“Why didn’t you tell me about the post man when I had asked you if you had find anything in the CCTV?” Gina asked now.

Clayton gave a look as if she was crazy. He never expected her to bring up that discussion again. Yeah, he had lied to her about not finding anything but come on…he later got to tell her the truth, right? So what’s still her problem about that past?

“Really? Are we still talking about that? I said I was sorry, okay? I thought that fact was pointless. That_”

“You don’t just make decision by yourself, Mr Clay. I am the leader of this department and I should be told everything. Every single thing. You don’t have to skip any information about any case because your instinct say so. It’s not up to you but it’s up to me. I make the decisions and not you. This isn’t about your personal life…this is about the current case on board. My case.”

“Why are you always like this? Why are you always this cold towards me? Yeah, you said you don’t like me neither do you trust me. But hey, you don’t have to mix personal feelings to business! What’s even your problem? We were discussing about something more reasonable and valid but what did you do…you chose to bring up something that had happened yesterday or so.” They were both glaring at each other.

“I don’t seem to get Mr Clay! I don’t! You arrived at work very late yesterday all in the name of taking care of personal stuff. You dressed in a criminal way. And then, when I had asked you about what you found in the CCTV, you lied. Why shouldn’t I doubt you? Just give me one reason, why I shouldn’t doubt you?”

“One reason? Because I don’t give a fu-ck about your doubt, Miss detective.” He stood up to his feet, still glaring at Gina. “Yeah, I had personal things to deal with yesterday morning which have nothing to do with you. Also, yeah, I dressed in a criminal way which doesn’t make me a criminal. And also, yeah. I had stupidly lied to you about the CCTV but finally decided to tell the truth. But listen to me, stop looking for words from my li-ps because you won’t find any. And also, not every you see on the way, you suspect because trust me, a criminal might be very close to you but you wouldn’t know because your kind are always blind to the truth.”

“What? Excuse me? How dare you talk to me in such manner? Huh?” Gina questioned, getting up to her feet as well.

“Guys! stop this shit! we are suppose to be discussing about the matter at hand about this serial killer on the loose and not fighting with each other! What exactly is wrong with you both?” Zoe asked the both of them as she also got up to her feet.

“You see that question? Ask your friend here, because she’s the one who needs to provide you, with an answer.” Clayton said before storming out of the office in anger.

Zoe slowly turned to Gina, who was staring at the closed door in shock.

“Did he just speak to me in such manner?”

“You caused it, Gina. What’s your problem with this guy? He apologized to you that day before keeping that valid video from you. So why did you still bring it up today? Why do I feel like there is more to this hate of yours. Huh?”

“I…I…”

“You are even lost of words. Stop making that guy feel so unwelcome in this department. We are all together in this, Gina. We all need each other. Stop mixing personal feelings with business, Gina!” Zoe stated. She was angry. Angry at her for treating Clayton the way she had treated him. “He was right. You are the one who suppose to provide me with an answer not him. Tsk.” Zoe walked out of the office, feeling disappointed over her friend’s cheap behavior towards Clayton.

As soon as Zoe closed the door behind her. Gina plopped down on the chair behind her and started crying. If only she could forget that day. If only she could forget the anxiety. The pain. The fear. The trauma. If only. Maybe she wouldn’t have vent her anger on Clayton. Maybe she wouldn’t have hated him. Maybe she would have had a free set of mind concerning men. Maybe she would have being married. Maybe she would have had a happy life.

But she couldn’t. She can’t. That day still felt like yesterday. No matter how much she tried to take the image, the memory away… it wouldn’t go. It was stuck with her. It was stuck to her head. And that hurts her. That made her this way towards men.

They were right…she is the one who is suppose to provide them with an answer.

“Here.” Zoe said as she handed Clayton a coffee. He stared at it as if it was poisoned. “She didn’t send me here to poison you.” She added and that made Clayton laughed as he collected the cup from her.

“That wasn’t what I was thinking.” He said, as he adjusted making a space for Zoe to seat beside him on the bench.

She smiled and took the sp-ot by his side. “Really? So what were your thoughts then?”

He shrugged. “Why is this pretty girl being so nice to me when her friend hates me like crazy.” They both laughed. Suddenly, they stopped laughing but either of them said a word to each other. Zoe sipped at her coffee while Clay just stared at the coffee. After a long while, he finally spoke, breaking the silence. “Why does she hate me?”

Zoe was a bit taken aback by the question. She cleared her throat. After some hesitation she spoke up. “I don’t know. But I don’t think she hates you. Gina isn’t that kind of person. She isn’t the type to hate people like that. She is a very pa-ssionate person.” She sighed. “She cares more about others than she do about herself. When her friends are happy then she is. She loves making new friends….she loves meeting new people.”

“So what happened? Or is there a handwriting written on my forehead that states, please hate me.”

Zoe laughed over that silly joke. “If that is written on your forehead then I would have hated you as well.”

“Correct.” He joked. They laughed again. “So why does she hate me? It’s not like I’ve met her before or something. I don’t even know her until I was being introduced to her two months ago by the chief after I was accepted to work as a detective und-er her department.”

Zoe turned to stare at him. He was staring right back at her. “Maybe she doesn’t hate you. Maybe she just hate people of your kind.”

“What? hate people of my kinds? What does that even mean?” Clayton asked, confused.

“Ah. I’ve said too much. I shouldn’t have said that. please pretend not to have heard me but please remember this, Whatever Gina do or say to you… please don’t her. Just let her be. She is just angry. Angry about that ugly past.” Zoe sighed again as she stood up to her feet and threw the trash of plastic cup on the water bin. “Let’s go in.” TBC.
