?Chapter Five <5>?

Subtitle: [Another Tragedy?]

“You sent for me, sir.” Gina said as soon as she walked into the chief police’s office. Her head were facing the ground, it was more like a sign of respect.

“Yeah. I did. So how is the investigation going on?” He asked as he leaned into his chair. “You can look up.” He ordered.

Gina did as she was told and that was when she noticed the guy sitting opposite from the chief of police. He was staring right back at her.

“Oh. Well, the investigation is going quite…um, great?” She said, sounding so unsure. Because truthfully, the investigation wasn’t going great. In fact, they aren’t making any progress at all.

The chief nodded his head as he tapped on the table. “The investigation is crazy, isn’t it?”

She mentally rolled her eyes over the chief’s bluntness but still nodded her head in agreement.

“And I guess you need help on that, right?”

“Well, Zoe is there with me. We are really doing our best, sir. You don’t need to worry about it, sir.”

“I am not worried. I am just concern about you, Zoe and the other detectives. I don’t want people to start questioning us. Or our services.” He sighed as he stopped tapping on the table and narrowed his eyes at Gina. “Anyway, Clayton is going to help you and Zoe out on that.”

“What? Clayton? And who is that?” Gina couldn’t help but ask.

The chief used his head to point at Clayton, who slowly waved his hands at Gina with a gentle smile on his face. Gina didn’t spare him any more glance as she turned to stare at the chief.

“I don’t think that’s necessary, sir with all due respect. Zoe and I are doing our possible best on this case and I don’t think we need any other helping hand on it.” She said with confidence.

“Um, Clay…can you please leave us for a minute? I will like to have a private discussion with her.”

“Yes sir.” Clayton said and bowed his head slightly towards the chief and also to Gina before walking out of the office.

“Dad, I don’t think this is necessary. I don’t need any helping hand in this case. Zoe is enough for me and we are both doing our best to capture the killer.” Gina stated as soon as they heard the door slammed shut.

Yeah. The chief of police was her father. Surprising, right? Well, that’s fact. Although, not everyone in the station knows about this aside from Zoe.

“This is necessary, Gina. First of all, this is a very risky case. How can I possibly leave my only daughter into this case without a male in her department? Yes, this case is very important but my daughter’s life is more important to me.”

Gina took some steps into the office as she groa-ned over her father’s overprotective behavior. “Dad, detectives are meant to be und-er risk. It’s part of our job. It’s what made us detective. And besides, I am not afraid of death, dad.”

He got up to his feet and walked over to Gina. He was standing right in front of her now. “That. is. bullshit. You are my daughter. And right now I am not giving this order to you as a father but as your boss. Take Clayton into your department. More members will even still be added.”

“Dad…” Gina began but her dad cuts her off.

“if you don’t do as I’ve said then I will have no other choice than to give this case to another department and put yours into two weeks suspension.” He threatened, pointing his index finger at her as he stared at her in fury.

Gina cleared her throat. “You are joking, right?”

He shrugged. “Try me.”

“God. Sometimes I wonder if that man is really my father.” Gina said as she sank into the chair.

“Uh…you are both stubborn.” Phoebe pointed out.

“Can’t seem to get down for the other.” Doris added.

“Loves being on top.” Alisha added as well.

“Believes that you are always right in everything.” Zoe said as well.

“But also smart.” Olive added with a light chuckle as she adjusted her gla-sses well.

“So you see…he is definitely your biological father.” Maddie said in conclusion and they all laughed over that.

Gina just rolled her eyes. “Not funny. At all.” She said, sternly.

“Come on, I see nothing bad in your father bringing in another new member in the group. Besides, this case is hell. Two heads can’t possibly solve the puzzle. And besides, we are getting no where close to getting this murderer.”

“But we are doing our best. It’s not like we aren’t doing anything about this case.” Gina said.

“But honestly, I see nothing bad in what your father did. He is just trying to look out for you. You are his child, Gina. No father will keep quiet and watch their daughter take a case as dangerous as this without doing anything.” Doris said, getting up to her feet. “I’m going to get hot chocolate. who is with me?”

“We all are.” Phoebe replied.

“Alright then.” Doris turned around and walked into the kitchen leaving the girls to try persuading Gina more.

“Wait. So I literally have no one by my side.” Gina said, looking at the all of her friends.

They all shrugged in unison. “You are making no sense, Gina. So tell me, who will want to be by your side?” Maddie was the one to answer.

“But Zoe…”

“Do you want this case to be given to another department? If that’s what you want, then be my guest. But for me, I really want to solve this case and put that unfortunate criminal behind bars.”

“She is right, Gina. You guys need to work this out. You can’t start this case and not complete it yourselves. This is your case, you can’t just let another department take it from you guys. Besides, you are only just going to add one guy to the department. Just one guy. I see no problem with that.” Olive said leaning into the chair she is sitting on.

“And it’s not like she even have a boyfriend. This guy could be your…” Maddie began but Gina quickly cuts her off.

“Just stop right there, Madds.” She sighed in defeat. “Fine. I lost. You guys and my father won. fu-ck, I can’t believe I’m going to allow another person into my department.”

“But let’s face it, Gina. We need more people in that department. Two heads can’t solve a case as complicated as the one we are trying to solve now.”

“You’ve said that before, right?” They all laughed and that was when Doris walked right out of the kitchen with a tray of hot chocolates.

“Here are the hot chocolates. Serve yourself.” She said and dropped the tray down on the table and took out one cup for herself. The girls took theirs as well and they all say to watch movie.

Tomorrow is going to be a hectic day for them, especially the ones who have some case to solve.

?TWO MONTHS LATER?

“Yeah. I will talk to you later. Okay, bye.” The girl said as she hung up the call. She sighed and sprawled on her bed, staring at the ceilings like it was the only interesting thing on earth.

Her life is a total mess right now. After losing a child and a husband, her brother in law have sworn to make her life miserable until she step down from being the company’s CEO. Her husband’s company.

Jane sniffed as she toss to face the other direction. Her life couldn’t get more worse after she lost those two people dear to her heart.

A tear sli-pped out of her eyes as the memory came flooding back. How she get to receive the news of losing two most precious people in her life.

Tragedy? She was known for that word. Tragedy.

She shut her eyes closed for a while and that was when a knock came in. She groa-ned as she got up to her feet and headed towards the door of her room to see it was that was knocking.

She got out of her room that she was shared with her husband and descended the stairs making her way to the door. She finally got to it and took in a de-ep breath before looking throu-ghthe peephole.

Of course, she expected no one aside from him. She unlocks the door and open it.

“What do you want now, Wilson?” She asked as she made way for him to enter.

He walked in and shut the door close behind him. “To see how you are doing.”

She rolled her eyes. “Am not dead, so am alright.” That was her reply a she made her way to her husband’s favorite couch and sank down on it. “What exactly do you want?”

“Am here to make a deal with you, Jane. I see you don’t want to give up on the company, am I right?”

“I told you, I won’t give up on my husband’s company. That company is his sweat. He worked his as-soff to get that company to that position and I won’t give up on it just because you say so.” She said.

“I love that courage. But do I need to remind you that this person in question is my brother.”

“Step.” She corrected. “Step brother. Who you never regard as one even after his death. You hated your brother mire than you hated the devil. Your mother and yourself treated him like he wasn’t part of the family. You treated him as trash. You treated him as the black sheep of the family when in reality you were the black sheep of the family. It was you who were born out of wedlock. Not him. You were the illegitimate son. Not him.”

Wilson made some angry steps towards her as yanked her off the couch. “How dare you?” He growled.

She smir-ked. “Doe it hurt to hear the truth? oh, like the saying goes, the truth is always bitter. Am I right? Listen, get your stinky hands off me and rot in hell. You psychopath. I don’t care if you hate me because of I chose your step brother over you but listen to me very good, I will keep on choosing him even after death!….Ah.” Wilson had slapped her across her face. The slap was so heavy that it knocked her off her feet and she fell to the ground.

“How dare you?! How dare you speak to me in such manner? what? You will still keep choosing him even after death? I will kill you. You mad woman. I will kill you!”

She started laughing. “Then what are you waiting for? Kill me. Kill me, You bastard. Kill me. Isn’t death more better than this miserable life? Kill me and take over the company. Kill me. But know this for a fact, if I don’t die then there is no way in hell I’m going to let you take that company.”

“You….!” Wilson began but was cut short by a loud knock on the door. He glared at her. “We shall see.” He said before storming out of the house not sparing the person outside a glance.

Jane got up to her feet and wiped the blood off the side of the li-ps. He had slapped her with all of his strength. Her side cheek hurts like a bitc-h now.

She walked over to the door and saw a post man staring at her with a smile. She didn’t smile back, she just raised a brow at him.

“Are you okay, ma’am?” He now asked as he sighted her bruise face. Yeah, five fingers were showing clearly across her left cheek.

“What do you want?” She asked, ignoring his question.

The post man took it as an hint to mind his business. “Here. A letter was sent to you.” He said, handing a letter over to her.

“Hmm. Thanks.” She collects the letter before walking in and slamming the door shut.

She leaned on the door and started crying, pulling the later close to her ch-est. Her life is miserable. She is hurt. She is going crazy. She is going insane. Why does her life have to be like this? why?

She got up to her feet and headed towards the bar by the side of the large sitting room and grabbed a bottle of whiskey and poured some for herself in a cup and gulped the whole thing in her mouth. The strong taste sent shivers down to her spine.

She took more cups before tearing the letter open. The person who had sent the letter wasn’t written in the letter. It was more like a short note.

You are right. Death is the only option to a Peaceful life. Life can be crazy but death is the only solution…. *LOL.* Just kidding. But hey, If this isn’t done then your brother will surely have to kill you himself. Get prepared, Jane. Your end is near….?.

She knitted her brows at the note. Who in the name of God will send her a foolish note as this? She just kept the note on the bar table and was heading to her room when she heard a knock on her door. Again.

She slowly walked over to it and opened it without looking throu-ghthe peephole to see who it was. As soon as she opened the door, she stared at the person in confusion.

“You….?” TBC.
