the unknown episode 24

?THE UNKNOWN?

?Chapter Twenty-Four <24>?

?The killer could be a girl?

“Wait. let me get this straight…you think the killer is a female.” Gina questioned Clay for the tenth times. And no, it wasn’t just an exaggeration but the truth.

Clay knitted his brows at her, confusedly. “Yes?”

Gina started laughing like he had just cracked a joke. Both Clay and Zoe was staring at her with the looks that says; Are you okay?

“What? The killer might be a girl? Are you fu-cking kidding me right now? How can this psycho be a girl? And why will a girl want my friends and I dead? Are you even listening to yourself, Clay?”

“He might have a point, G. What if we’ve been following a wrong description all this while and that’s why we haven’t capture the criminal yet?” Zoe reasoned.

“Are you taking sides with him now? Listen, Clay. You are my friend. But this, this is crazy.”

“Gi…”

She cuts him off before he could finish her name. “Why are you so sure that this killer is a girl?”

“And why are you so sure that the killer is a guy? We are both riding the same boat, Gina.”

“Exactly! We are both riding the same boat but two captains can’t sail just one boat.” She says.

“Is this what all this is all about? The leadership? You might be our leader of this department. But you need us to a-ssist you.”

“I bring the idea not you. It isn’t your job, Clay. Neither is it her job.” She nodded her head towards Zoe’s direction to indicate who she was talking about. “It’s my job because I am the captain of this department.”

“I hate this.” Clay said in fury as he got up and left the office.

“Tsk. What an a-sshole.” Gina muttered under her breath.

“No. you are the as-shere, Gina. I can’t believe you could say something as mean as this.” Zoe said.

“What did I say that so wrong, Zoe? The truth? You and I both know that what he is saying is pointless and useless.”

“And you saying that the connection is from college is the great point and useful one?”

“Well, yes. You both agreed to it.”

“Yeah. we did. Because we used our sense to reason but you? You only just think full of yourself and do as you please. You always try to act like the boss not just at work but also around our friends! We thought maybe it’s because of what you’ve been throu-ghduring College with Ryan but maybe that’s not just the problem….maybe you are the problem and not your past!” Zoe stood up to her feet. “And mind you, you didn’t get into this position because you deserved it but you got here because of your father. Stick that to your head!” And with that said she stormed out of the office leaving Gina speechless.

“Gina? Is that you?” Mia asked the person that had just walked into the living room. She adjusted on the couch she was sitting on and held her stick close to herself.

“How did you guessed right?” Gina questioned as she plopped down on the couch beside little Mia.

Mia let go of her stick and a small smile appeared on her face. “Normal people would have recognize your face as soon as you walked throu-ghthe door. But people like me can’t, because we are blind and can’t stick your face to our memory but we can only remember one thing….your perfume. By the way, I love your perfume.”

Gina was so touched over what the little girl had just said. She pulled Mia in her arms. Mia’s head was leaning against her bre-ast .

“Being blind isn’t a bad thing, Princess. I want you to always remember that.” She said, stro-king the little girl’s hair.

“You wouldn’t want to give birth to a blind girl, will you?”

Gina was a bit taken aback by that question. Honestly, she wouldn’t. Like seriously, who would want to give birth to a blind child? Of course no one. But where Mia was getting it all wrong was that… wasn’t born blind.

“I can’t say, princess. But I do want one thing,” She smiled, although the child can’t see it. “i want my child to be as intelligent as you are.”

Mia chuckled a little. “Really?”

“Yes princess.”

“Gosh! Where have you been all my life.” Mia dramatically said.

Gina laughed for a long while before saying. “I’ve been at the station, catching bad guys and waiting for your dad to walk throu-ghthe station and get me to you.”

They both started laughing. They even had tears running down their faces due to the laughter.

“Why did you become a detective, Gina?” Mia now asked after the laughter had died down.

“Um… because of my dad?”

“Your dad was a detective too?”

“He was. But he’s now the chief head of the police force.” She explains. Suddenly, her mind went back to what had happened in the office. What Zoe had said to her about her being in the captain position because of her dad. Could Zoe be right?

“Wow. That’s cool. I also want to be a detective, just like you and Daddy. you guys are my hero.”

“Awww. I will hold on to that.” They both remained silent until Gina spoke up again. “How about we watch a movie?”

Mia face suddenly drop. “I had love to but you know my predicament.”

“Oh come on. I will explain to you what happens in the movie. Trust me.” Gina put up a movie titled, *Alita.* She explains everything to Mia as she watches it. They laughed in some scenes but cried at the end of the movie because the main male role died.

“Gosh, he shouldn’t have died. Now this movie seem so pointless.” Mia says.

Gina laughed as she wiped a stray of tears from her face. “I agree with you on that. Care for some juice?” Gina asked, getting up to her feet.

“Yes please.”

“As you wish, my princess.” They both started laughing all over again.

After a while, Gina returned with two cups of orange juice and some cracker biscuits. She handed Mia a glas-sand took one for herself before sitting back down on the couch beside Mia.

“You are so nice, Gina.”

“Am I?” Gina questioned. Was she? Honestly, she don’t know. She have always wanted to protect her friends but she never knew that she had been doing it the wrong way all this time. Now Mia was calling her nice but she had insulted her father earlier ago. Does she really deserve that adjective of being nice? Does she?

“Yeah. you are really nice and beautiful.”

“Beautiful?”

“Wondering how I got to know that when I’m just a blind girl?” She chuckled. “Dad always say, ‘don’t like people because of how beautiful they are on the outside but see them for who they really are in the inside.’”

“Wow. Your dad is one wise man.” Gina says.

“That I agree with you. So you see why I call you beautiful?”

“What if I had treated your dad in a harsh way? Will you hate me?”

“No. I won’t. My dad and I are different. You might be treating him bad but you are treating me nice. But please do not hurt my dad. Please.”

Gina sighed as she wiped a stray of tears from her face. She felt so bad in treating Clayton with the way she did.

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be, Gina.”

“You remind me so much of Elsa.”

“Elsa? Who is that?”

“A friend of mine daughter. Too bad, her mother is dead now. She is as smart and beautiful as you are. Don’t worry I will bring her to you the next time I come visiting.”

“Yay! I’ve never had a friend before.”

“Hey, I’m a friend, remember?”

“Yeah. My best friend.”

“Why were you the only one home?” Gina now asked. She has been willing to ask her that but forgot. And now seem like the best opportunity to ask her that.

“Aunt Dora went out to get her boyfriend over here. I’m wondering why they aren’t here by now.”

“Oh.” That was the only thing she could say.

Mia suddenly sniffed. “Dad?”

“What?” The door was suddenly push open and Clay walked throu-ghthe door and slammed the door shut. “Whoa, how did you do that?” Gina whispered Mia.

“I have a very sharp nose.” That was the girl’s reply.

“Wow. I admire that gift.”

Clayton suddenly caught sight of Gina. He knitted his brows at her confusedly. “What are you doing here?” He asked with a cold voice.

Gina slowly stood up to her feet. “I came by to visit princess and I’m also here to have a word with you. Please.” TBC.
