*Mrs Walker Office*

Lair was still seated across his mother’s desk, they had both gone throu-ghevery form of docu-mment Mrs Walker had collated in the last couple of days. From all enquires it was clear that Micheal hadn’t been in that jail, not even for a second. There was no entry of his name anywhere, and that was a big puzzle which they hadn’t been able to solve.

For a moment Mrs Walker had thought that maybe she had imagined what happened years ago, but no matter how she tried to look at it, she still couldn’t convince herself otherwise.

She had planned everything out herself, from the set up to the witnesses, everything was all planned out by her and she had taken care of all the lose ends, but now this? Everything was gone?

She would have been happy about this turn of event if not for the precarious state she was in right now. She was on the verge of losing her marriage, her family and the only thing which could save her was gone. She had to admit that she regretted everything she had done.

Had she known that something like this was going to happen, that her wrongdoing was going to come back and bite in the face then she wouldn’t have done it. Then she had thought what a nobo-dy like him could do? He was from a poor home, he had no one and was nothing but filth. Little did she know that her retribution wasn’t going to come from Micheal but from the universe itself.

Everything was almost as if the universe wanted her to admit to her crime. To admit to ruining a young man’s life. Right now she’d apologize to him for all the wrong she had done against him if that was what was going to make her keep her family, but that would be only be possible if she was able to find him.

“I still don’t un-derstand any of this” Lair said in frustration. “I mean there are no family members to ask, maybe if he made an appeal or came out parole, but even if he did there should be something in here” Lair hissed out in resignation, as he raked his hand throu-ghhis head. He could feel a throbbing headache coming.

“I don’t know how every bo-dy in his family ends up dead at same time, his parents, and his sibling. Is this supposed to be a joke?” Lair vexed as he slammed the death certificate in his hands on the table. His eyes accusingly staring at his mother. She frowned when she saw the suspicious way he was looking at her.

“Don’t give me that look, I have nothing to do with that” She snapped. “I might be capable of a whole lot of things but murder isn’t one of them” she proclaimed.

“Yet you mean” Lair seethed.

“Lair!” She hollered angrily.

“Mother I’d advice you to bottle that anger in. You shouldn’t even dare to yell or cuss at the moment. Maybe you don’t know how precarious this situation is. People might not know what you’ve done but your family knows and do you think we’d stay and encourage this wicked act of yours?….The answer is no. No one will. As for me being here it’s not because I want to help you, but because I know how this is gravely going to affect Amy. She’ll always blame herself if anything happens to that boy, she’d live and carry that guilt around for as long as she can. You should have first thought as a human being and then as a mother before you carried out this despicable act, so mother you have no right to raise your voice at me.
I’m not wrong if I thought the worst of you. Do you perhaps nee-d a recount of all the things you’ve done against your family? A ledger can’t contain it. So save that energy till you face father at home” Lair angrily stood up from his seat and packed up the files which he has been reviewing for several hours.

“Where are you going?” Mrs Walker asked in a slightly shaken voice.

“To get some real help. Because it seems you can’t even save yourself, and it makes me wonder if you can really save anybo-dy else” Lair wouldn’t lie to say he was enraged by his mother attitude. He couldn’t stand her right now, and so far she was as clueless as he was. He gave her one last look before walking towards the door. He paused on his track and turned to her. He had one question that has been in his heart for a while.

” I have one question to ask you mother” He spoke in a calm tone, but Mrs Walker knew better, that behind his cool voice was an anger that demanded for her blood. She cringed at the fact that her own child looked at her with so much disgust and distaste.

She looked at him silently asking him to go ahead.

“How did you put Micheal in jail?” He asked. It was a question all of them had failed to ask her. It’s not like knowing was going to help the situation or solve this puzzle, but he wanted to know.

Mrs Walker was taken aback when Lair asked. She has been praying that no one gets to ask her that, but here he was asking her.

Her li-ps moved slightly as she made an attempt to say something. Lair had a feeling she was about to lie, so he said, “And don’t bother lying or I’ll have dad ask you himself” He was getting fond of threatening her with his father, and that made her angry as well as scared.

She calmed herself and replied, “I had him set up and exchanged with another criminal” She said.

“And what was the crime?” He pressed further. Mrs Walker felt uncomfortable when he asked her another question. She felt her tongue become heavy as she tried to say it out. It was at this point that the gravity of what she had done weighed down on her.

Lair narrowed his brows at her, urging to speak up, and she did.

“Murder”

Of all the crime that came into Lair’s head, he didn’t think his mother would go as far as pinning a murder case on an innocent person simply because he was in love in her daughter, while as a defender of the law she let an actual criminal go free.

Lair chucked out with incredulity as he looked at her like she was some monster.

“Did you ever think of letting him go?” He asked.

Mrs Walker opened her mouth to reply but Lair stopped her.

“Don’t bother answering that. I pray dad gets his divorce, because I’m sure he doesn’t know who he’s married to, and neither do I know who my mother is” He sneered as he walked out the door angrily slamming it on his way out.

‘If his mother wasn’t evil, then he doesn’t know what she is’
__________

Jake told Blake about the idea of creating the virus and how he intended to go about it. He had a few things to do so he asked Blake to be in charge of it, this was going to be Blake’s first biggest task since he joined the company. So he wanted him to be careful with it.

“The company is no longer as it used to be. Hillary has followers in the company, so we have to be extremely careful with what we do. She can’t find out about this, so you mustn’t tell anyone about this until we’re done. There should be no room for any surprises” He warned him, while Blake nodded in un-derstanding. He knew better than to sabotage the plan by doing something like Jake mentioned.

“So what are you going to do then?” Blake inquired. Jake un-derstood what Blake was asking. Naturally, he would have seen to the virus creation himself, but since he was delegating it to Blake, that only meant he was up to something.

“I’ll be fixing the issue about this will. I don’t believe father would do something like this. Nothing feels right about it, and I get the feeling that something must have happened to father, to make him do this” Jake didn’t think his father’s signature was forged, no…it looked real enough. He was certain the docu-mment was personally sighed by his father. But he just didn’t know why.

“I think so too. But what do you intend to do?” Blake asked. He didn’t know how his brother was going to go about this. Investigating this was going to be difficult since their father was dead, and Hillary wasn’t going to just say anything if indeed she had a hand in it as they were suspecting.

“I’ll start from the day it was sighed and whoever drafted the will”

“You mean, Attorney William” Blake said, more like he was asking.

“Yes, he’s the only person tied to the will who we can ask. He must have met father on that day. So I’ll start with him. And also he must have drafted the will, so he sure has a lot to tell me” Jake was sure that if his father truly sighed this will in the prese-nce of his lawyer, then the lawyer should know why his father had made such a decision. He was sure grandfather must have asked him after keeping for all these years, but he felt he should do this himself. Grandfather might have missed somethings but not him. He wasn’t going to lose his inheritance or that of his brother to a murderer, so he was going to very meticulous about this.

“Don’t you want me to help you with that? I can be of help you know” Blake said, he didn’t want Jake to shoulder all the responsibilities alone, he has been that for quite too long. He could be of help, he wanted to be of help. He hasn’t contributed much to the family except for looking over grandfather when Jake left the country, and doing the meager job he was @$$igned at the company.

Jake looked at him for a while before shaking his head. “Creating that virus is enough help as it is.” He told him, while Blake frowned slightly. Yes the virus was important, but he could finish that up in a day or two, he still wanted to be of more help.

Jake noticed the frown on his face and he sighed. “It seems you don’t un-derstand how important your job is” That virus is going to be their first step in securing their company, and most importantly it was the reason why he was going to spend the next coming days without his woman, do he didn’t see why Blake was acting like it wasn’t important enough. He stood up from his seat and looked down at Blake, “Get that thing done so I can have my woman back” He said in a stern tone before walking away. He un-derstood Blake really wanted to be helpful to him, but creating that virus was also important too…..as a matter of fact it was very important.

Jade would lift this ban, when he fix the issue at the company. Thankfully she knows nothing about the will, else she might have made it a month, well he also didn’t know at the time, and he was going to make sure she doesn’t get a clue about it. He can’t survive another ban of not seeing her, after this one she has placed on him.

Blake at him in stupefaction, “So this is about sister in-law isn’t it?” he asked accusingly. Jake didn’t pause to look at him.

“Yes it’s all about her, and if you want her as your sister in-law then start doing your job. You have less than 48 hours, get to work. chop-chop” He tea-sed before closing the door on his way out, while Blake chuckled.

His brother has indeed changed alot. Love has brou-ght out another version of him. He couldn’t have ever imagine Jake addressing any girl as his woman or even staying at home at such a critical time when he was this stressed.

The old Jake would probably be sinking de-ep into a woman to unwind his stress by now, but he was obeying all the instructions of his soon to be sister In-law.

Jake wanted to rest just as Jade as instructed, but he knew he couldn’t do that without eating just as he has promised. She’d definitely ask him in the morning, and he didn’t want to lie. So he made himself a plate of toast and a cu-p of milk to induce sleep.

Honestly he didn’t want to sleep yet despite the fact that bo-dy was craving for it, and Jade would grill him if he falls sick because of the lack of it, but he’d love to cover some work because first thing in the morning he was going to see the attorney.

Tommorow he was going to start investigating that will, and hopefully he gets a positive response.
_______

Amy had stayed awake for the later pa-rt of the night waiting for Lair and her mother to come back home. But she had to succu-mmb to the hold of sleep after waiting for too long when none of them showed up. She had been both nervous and relieved all throu-ghthe night.

Nervous because she didn’t know what to expect, and relieved because she didn’t get to hear any bad news such as the one her mind kept telling her, thanks to Ethan who reminded of the possibility of something bad happening to Micheal. She was beginning to think he might know something which he isn’t letting on. But then again this was Ethan, he wouldn’t keep anything from her.

The moment she left her be-d she made her way to Lair’s room, but she was surprised to meet an empty room. It seems like he didn’t come home last night, that was strange.

“He left very early. He said something about an early cl@$$” She heard someone say from behind her, slightly startling her. She turned around to find her father standing behind her

“Good morning dad” She greeted.

“Morning princess” He said as he took a step closer. He looked at her very intently, he before running his hand throu-ghher hair. He could see worries in her eyes, and it made him sigh inwardly.

“I know you’re worried about all this, but I want you to know that you have me and Lair to support you, and you really shouldn’t hate your mother. I’m sure she had good intentions but she has never had a good way of showing it…. it’s her default”

Amy looked at his face as he spoke, she had a question she wanted to ask, but before she could ask he spoke up first.

“And no, she didn’t come home either. She’s in her office, maybe too ashamed to face us for what she has done. We’ll have to be a little bit patient, hmm” He told her while Amy nodded her head. She knew her Father was only trying to placate her and stop her from worrying. But they both knew her mother wasn’t ashamed, something was wrong that’s why she didn’t come home and she was sure her Father knew that too. Her mother didn’t know how to tell them whatever was wrong and not that she was ashamed.
Ashamed of what?

Mr Walker patted her shoulder, and said, “Let’s go have breakfast. It’s now you and me princess” He said smiling at her.

“Okay” She nodded, before turning around to follow him to the dining table.

Mr Walker’s smile disappeared the moment he turned around and made his way to the stairs with Amy tailing behind. He didn’t like the fact that they were all lying to her.

Lair had met him last night and told him about all that they had discovered, or rather what they had not discovered.

“We weren’t able to find him. There was nothing to find as a matter of fact” He said as he watched his father quietly read throu-ghthe docu-mments his mother had been able to gather.

“Mmm” Was all he could mutter at the time, while he went throu-ghevery piece of paper.

“Could it be possible, he was given a pardon, or he made a deal, or anything that could make him suddenly missing, possible?” Lair asked.

“If you’re trying to say, if he was hijacked from prison by some black ops of the government then I think you have the wrong idea” Mr Walker knew what his son was trying to say. What Lair was thinking happened in movies and very rarely in corrupted government, but certainly not this one.

Lair looked at him with an inscrutable gaze. “So what idea should i have then?” He asked.

“Firstly, looking at the boy’s records there’s nothing peculiar about him that could attra-ct special attention of any secret government agency, and secondly if something like what you think Indeed happened, then there should atleast be a death record for him, since that it’s how things like that work. But looking at this, there’s no indication that he was Indeed there. And even the name of the criminal which you mother had swapped him with isn’t here either. So I think none of your guess are possible”

“So what does that mean then?” Lair curiously asked, he wasn’t into legal stuff like the rest of the family, so he had didn’t have enough insight on matters like this like them. Even Amy was more better than him in this depa-rtment. She had read alot of law books at the time….well thanks to Mrs Walker dictatorship.

“It means someone does not want him to be found. This looks like a clean job and whoever is behind it didn’t know this would raise a red flag, maybe they were basking on the fact that your mother wouldn’t go looking for him or think about letting him go” Mr Walker reasoned.

“You think so? But wouldn’t it be ha-rd for someone to take a prisoner out of a place like that. Someone must know something, someone must have seen something”

“And someone must be powerful enough to keep it un-der the radar. Whoever were dealing with knows something and must be indeed be powerful. Things like don’t just happen, they’re well thought out plans and I have a feeling this is one of those spooky ones that keeps you on your feet.” Mr Walker stated. Only a powerful person would be capable of doing something like this. Taking a person out of prison wasn’t an easy fit, except….

The person was dead.

But there are only one type of people that could be easily moved out of a prison most especially when they’re not being set free, and that was a dead people. But then again there should be some trail or a death certificate. Anything to indicate that the person was dead. Because if whoever did this really wanted people to believe that the said boy was dead, just in case someone comes looking, they’d had made him a ghost.

But now this didn’t seem like the case. This was a case of someone completely disappearing with no trace. From all indications something fishy was going on.

But the main question is, is Micheal alive or dead?

And which ever case it was, then who is behind his sudden disappearance.

“So what do we do?” Lair asked fearfully. His baby sister was linked to this all, he didn’t know how she’d react to any of this.

Mr Walker looked up to his son and he un-derstood why he was worried, he also shared his fear. They didn’t know who was behind all this. Who Vivian must have upset. But they also couldn’t be conclusive about anything yet, since there was nothing to aid their thoughts.

“Let’s keep this away from Amy while we look further into this. Tomorrow I’ll visit the prison myself” He told him.
