EPISODE TWELVE:
{TEDDY’S POV}
He stood with his hands buried in his pockets, examining the big be-d setting and the red candles in the room.
One look at him and I knew instinctively he was rolling in money although he was donning on a casual denim jeans and a dark golf polo, there was that hint of money lur-k-ing behind him.
” This is a really good place, boy,” he said glancing around as I walked in the pri-vate room. ” It might pay to look in from time to time. I never knew there was a place like this in the state.”
” You wanted me?” I said curtly. ” I’m rather busy tonight. Time is of the essĀ£nce in my work. If you’d want a l@p dance, we should geā”
” Well, no, it’s not important,” he cut me off with a smile as he moved to the flower vase and smelled from it. ” You’re not my type.”
” If you don’t want me, then why did you request for me?”
He lifted his bushy eyebrows. There was a bland look in his eyes that I didn’t like.
” I want to talk to you.”
” Yes I suppose you do but I don’t have the time to listen to folk tales. If you nee-d my attention, you’d have to pay for it,” I said shortly.
I just wasn’t comfortable with this guy.
His smile wi-de-ned and he brou-ght out a wad of clean notes. He peeled some money and dropped it on the be-d.
” Now do I have your attention?”
I stared at the money, then at him. ” Keep talking, I’m listening.”
” So what’s your name, boy?” He asked, moving around the room, the wad of money in his hand as he surveyed me from head to toe.
” I’m known here as Teddy.”
” I meant your real name, not your stage name.”
” That’s pri-vate information,” I said. ” I don’t give out my real name to strangers.”
He laughed. It was a jeering mocking laugh as if he thought of me as a joke. ” It’s alright, Marcel. There’s no nee-d to be frightened of me.”
I stiffened. Hāhow did he know my name?
Seeing he’s fully gotten my attention, he wandered over to the be-d and sat down. ” Don’t be too cautious with me. I know it’s because of Simi, isn’t it?”
I went Scarlet. ” H….how did yoā”
” Nevermind that,” he crossed his legs gently while he regarded me. ” It doesn’t matter how I know. What matters is I know everything I wish to know about you.”
My face was changing colour fast.
” Now look here,” I exploded, ” this has gone far enough. Wā”
” So you think it’s gone far enough?” He said and smiled. ” Well so do I. How was Cas-sie last night?”
” Cas-sie?” I stĀ©pped and suddenly felt sick.
He watched me closely. ” Pretty tall woman, with gorgeous eyes with high cheek bones. I’m sure you can remember her given that you sle-pt with her last night at a h0tel.”
” I….I don’t know what you mean?!” I said, the truth dawning on me. Here was a stranger with the knowledge of all the dirty things he’d done last night. My first suspicion was correct. This man must be…. ” Who are you?”
” James Ajayi, Cas-sie’s husband.” he said, suddenly losing his bland air.
I jo-lted and I felt an electric wave rushing off my stomach.
” It’s time we both had a little talk,” James said, frowning. ” There are a lot of things you don’t know about our marriage. I’m sure she must’ve spoken horrible things about me to you but I wouldn’t blame you entirely for doing what you just did. After all, you’re nothing more than just a str!pper.”
I stared at him, my face white and set.
” I’ve been watching you ever since my wife lied to me when she c@mĀ£ home late past 2.am in the morning. I wouldn’t have picked any interest in you not until she began disclosing to you the things we do in the house. You’re slee-ping with her right?”
I was controlling myself with an effort. ” Sir, I’m merely doing my job. Your wife c@mĀ£ to me andā”
” And I’m not gonna blame you for it, boy,” he pas-sed his ton-gue over hisl-ips. ” I’m not trying to attack you. I’m here because I want you to un-derstand what’s going on. You might be able to help me out.”
This man was heading somewhere. I just couldn’t figure out what he was up to. ” I don’t un-derstand.”
He stood up and approached me. ” Cas-sie’s must’ve said a lot of things. One I believe has something related to do with our se-x life, isn’t it?”
I wanted to say something, to reply this man but the words hung in my throat.
” Six months without se-x seems like a long time,” he smiled bitterly, ru-bbing his nose. ” And Cas-sie’s a crazy se-x freak but she’s a strong woman. I believe this is the first time she’d ever cheated on me. I’ll admit that’s entirely all my fault. I pushed it for far too long.”
” So why didn’t you give her the satisfaction?” I spoke finally.
He glanced up at me. ” That’s because I’m more into men than women.”
There it was. I was half expecting that from him. ” You’re into men? And then you went ahead to marry a woman?”
James grinned. ” You’re learning, boy. Ever wondered why I chose to marry her? Ever wondered why I stĀ©pped having se-x with her?”
” I don’t.”
” You don’t?” He stro-ked his goatee. ” Hmm…and I thought you were g@y.”
” I’m a male str!pper,” I retorted. ” It’s my job to satisfy both male and females.”
” That’s interesting….I’m sure Simi must be proud of you.”
I clenched my teeth. ” Listen, Mr Ajayi, let’s leave Simi out of thisā”
” Marcel,” James cut me short again. ” I’m dying.”
I stĀ©pped all of a sudden. ” What do you mean by dying?”
” Prostrate cancer,” he answered, eyes ha-rd ening at me. ” I’m also positive for HIV.”
This was one heck of a b!ow. I felt it on my face. Prostrate cancer? HIV?
” It’s a long story,” he walked away from me towards the be-d and dug his hands de-ep in his pocket. ” But there you have it. That’s one of the reasons why I stĀ©pped slee-ping with Cas-sie.”
The silence in the room was Soo awkward I nearly sniffed.
” H-how is this possible?”
” Just of recent,” he smiled as he kicked his shoe on the floor. ” I guess my male lover contracted it and…well, it doesn’t really matter anymore. What’s done is done.”
I felt kinda sorry for him. ” You didn’t tell Cas-sie about this did you?”
” She doesn’t nee-d to know.”
” Why? She’s your wife. She’s got to know.”
” And what about Simi? Does she has to know as well that you fvĀ¢k both men and women for money?”
I bec@mĀ£ silent. He’d strike a point there. Still, I knew he wasn’t doing the right thing.
” Mr Ajayi…”
” Save it boy,” he snorted. ” I know what you’re trying to ask but save it. My kids will be alright. Right about now, I’m only worried on keeping things balanced in my family. I still love my wife but I’d be damned if she got to know about my sickness and my secret affair. It’s my fault I got infected with the virus, it’s my fault my wife cheated on me. I’m the most lousiest husband in the world and it’d forever live with me till death. Still, I want to make things right. My lover and I had broken up. Right about now, I’m on the way of becoming the husband I’m supposed to be.”
” What do you want from me?” I asked after a moment silence.
He turned around to meet my gaze. There was a glint in his eyes that sĀ£nt shivers up my spine.
” I want you to stay away from my wife. If she ever comes here for a l@p dance or whatever, decline. Don’t tĀ©uƧh her.”
” Mr Ajayi, I’m not really into your wife. I have no interest in married women. I’m only doing my job. She was the one who c@mĀ£ to me.”
” And she’d still be back,” he said. ” I know my wife, she’s that crazy about se-x. She’d be back, I promise you. I’m not going to risk contracting her with my virus. She’s not getting any se-x out of me and I’d be damn if she gets it elsewhere. You’ll have to make me a promise never to tĀ©uƧh her again be it I’m dead or alive.”
I bec@mĀ£ uneasy. ” You’re taking this too far….a lot of married women do come here and pay for my services. If I refused, my bossā”
” I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse,” he interrupted. ” How about I pay you. Name your price. I’ll write you a cheque and we’ll sign up a deal. If by any chance, it was discovered you had anything else to do with my wife again, I’d find you and I’ll kill you!”
I staggered back in shock. ” Kill me?!”
James eyes were as ha-rd as diamonds. ” That’s the deal, boy. You stay away from my wife and I’ll write you a handsome cheque. But if she comes back and in any way you get inti-mate with her and I find out, I’ll find you and I’ll kill you.”
” What sort of nones-en-se is this?” I shouted.
He brou-ght out a cheque. ” Name your price. I’ve been a lousy husband but I’m willing to set things right. I’ve only got a few years left on this Earth and I’m going to make the most of it. If I’m not giving my wife se-x, she’s never going to get it from anyone else.”
” I’m not going ahead with this!”
He eyed me. ” How does one million sound to you?”
” I’m not interested.”
” Two million?”
” StĀ©p it!” I yelled. ” To hell with your money. I’m not going to accept anything from you.”
” Why? Do you love my wife that much?!”
” I don’t give a hoot about your wife. I’m just a hustler. There’s no nee-d threatening my life.”
” I’m not threatening your life,” James said. ” I’m ma-king you an offer.”
” And I refused the offer. Tell your wife what you’re pas-sing throu-gh and warn her not to come close to me. I don’t want trouble, Mr Ajayi. All my life, I’ve stayed away from trouble. I’ve got no intentions of living in fear of death all in the name of a woman.”
James said nothing. He regarded me for a while then returned the cheque back into his pocket. ” I’m not telling my wife a thing of what we’ve both discussed here and I don’t expect you to mention any word to her either. Stay away from my wife and I won’t be pushed over the edge of hurting you. I’m not a bad man, Marcel but people make me do bad things. Don’t be such people. You’re a good boy. Let’s keep it that way.”
He moved away from me and turned to the door. ” I don’t think we’re alone. Someone is outside listening to us.”

{TARMA’S POV}
YOU’RE A GOOD BOY. LET’S KEEP IT THAT WAY!
That was James last words. I started when he said, I DON’T THINK WE’RE ALONE. SOMEONE IS OUTSIDE LISTENING TO US.
I stood up and ran down the stairs in time before I heard the door opened.
I was still walking briskily towards the bar when I heard footfalls descending from the stairs.
I looked back and saw James. He walked slowly with his hands still buried in his pocket. His eyes were searching round the busy club but they didn’t sight me. I kept moving until I was halfway towards the door.
It was a good feeling to be out in the open air again, away from the heat and the stabbing shock I just received inside that club.
I walked fas-ter, keeping inline with the dark shadowy areas to aviod being sighted.
Feverishly digging out my phone from my purse, I dialed Cas-sie’s number.
” plea-se…. plea-se answer the phone,” I pleaded as my phone buzzed without answer.
I kept moving, waiting for a cli-ck from the other line and forgot to look where I was going.
Suddenly I heard a car engine roaring behind me. Turning around sharply, someone c@mĀ£ speeding towards where I was.
I wasn’t fast enough. Before I could look back, the car halted with a loud screeching sound that prickled my hairs on end.
I felt the hood of the car hitting me on my spine with a powerful impact that carried me high in the air.
I crashed r0ƻghly on the ground and blacked out.
