THE HOUSEMAID DISASTER
EPISODE 5
Sonia couldn’t st©p wondering what Ebere wants to discuss with her. Whatever it may be, in an hour or 2(hrs) later, she must find out.
Sonia peered at her wrist watch for the fifteenth time. She shifted uncomfortably wondering what might be keeping Ebere. She was beginning to feel irritated with the way some boys peered at her, sitting there all alone. She wondered why Ebere suggested they meet in that little open restaurant and not in her house. Of course she lived alone somewhere.
“sorry for keeping you waiting” Sonia turned her face and it was Ebere. She took a sigh of relief and greeted her.
Ebere took the seat in front of her and flashed a smile.
“When you beat a child and give him a mark, you may forget it in time to come but the beaten child can never forget it” Ebere said, adjusting her Sk-irt.
Sonia nodded. Ebere’s words made s-en-se to her but she just couldn’t figure out the angle where she seemed to be coming from. A confused expression was seen written all over her face.
“I want to go straight to the point. Angela and i have been good friends right from the university days, Angela is quite a good person but she betrayed me. She shattered my hopes and dreams. She bit me in the back” Sonia listened with ra-pt attention as Ebere went on and on.
“I met the man of my dream and we started a good relationsh!p. He proposed marriage to me and i accepted to marry him. That was all i ever wanted and we started ma-king arrangements for the wedding. Four days to that day i so much dreamed of the wedding day, i c@m£ back from one of my numerous shoppings in re-adiness for the d-day, only to meet my fiancee sitting on the sofa in the living room looking so sad and depressed. I knew something was wrong. I bent down to give him a k!ssbut he pushed my face away angrily. I was shocked and I asked him what was wrong. Immediately, he flared up in a way i’d never seen him before, ma-king me g@sp in fear. He called me all sorts of name and how i have been slee-ping around with men. I thought it was a dream as i pinched my self severally, ru-bbing my eyes. He pushed me out of his house saying it was over between us. I couldn’t believe it was happening to me. We alre-ady shared out invitation cards, I just…i..”Ebere bur-sted into tears. She suddenly st©pped as if something immediately told her to st©p. She dried her tears with the handkerchief she was holding. Sonia felt sorry for her.
“But i later found out it was Angela who told him that i do sleep around with men. I know that i am not a prostitute. But as a lady desperate to get married, i allowed most of the men that c@m£ my way to sleep with me when they demanded for it all for the fear of not loosing them.
I didn’t doubt it when someone told me that it was Angela who told him all these because she was the only friend i had who knew much about me. She thought i would never find out. I just don’t know what i did to her.
Few months later, she got married to David. This is payback time, I will give it to her slowly, You must destroy her marriage” She told Sonia finally.
“What!?”Sonia screamed, not believing her ears, not even minding if people heard her.
“You have no choice, I got you hands
down.” Ebere a*sured her.
“How”Sonia asked.
“Hahahahaha….”Ebere laughed wickedly.
Sonia took a de-ep breath, not that breath of relief but in re-adiness to hear what the wicked Ebere whom she had thought to be a kind hearted lady had to say.
“Hahaha…”Ebere roared again until she finally covered her mouth with both palms, startling Sonia who was lost in thoughts. She kept still glaring at Sonia.
“Do you by any chance know of a guy called Paul?”Ebere asked. Sonia almost fainted on hearing that name again. Her heartbeat increa-sed tremendously as she held her che-st with the right palm trying to come back to normal again. She didn’t reply immediately because she knew she would stutter if she tried to.
“Oh my God. I hope its not what i am thinking, could she have seen me?” Sonia reasoned silently and stole a glance at Ebere, a mischievious smile was pla-ying on herl-ips, she didn’t wait for Sonia to answer her question as she continued almost immediately, concluding that the expected yes from Sonia was not really necessary because she believed they both knew the answer alre-ady.
“Paul was one of the men that c@m£ my way. With his sweet words, he stole my heart like a thief. I surrendered my love, my heart and my b©dy to him, thinking i have found my missing rib but little did i know that i was just a intim-acy gadget to him. I didn’t know he just kept me around to satisfy his wicked se-xual de-sires. Promising me that i would be the mother of his children.. hmmm, i wasn’t surprised when i saw the both of you together because i kept monitoring him. I pla-yed cool, acted as if nothing was happening but along the line, something happened” ***She st©pped and gazed at Sonia. She could re-ad the too many questions and curiousity written all over the poor girl’s face***
“What happened?”Sonia was eager to hear everything. She was really scared. If it happened that Ebere knew how paul died, then, she was in trouble. She may be compelled to give in to her demands to cover up some things.
Ebere glanced at her wrist-watch and hit her head softly. Time was running out, she had somewhere important to go to.
“Sonia,i don’t have much time to spend here. I am really happy that i met you. I equally rejoiced when Angela told me she wanted a maid. I feel this is the perfect time to strike back. Sonia, get pregnant for her husband. I’m happy she’s yet to conceive. After that, we will plan the next move” Ebere said with a bossy tone.
“You can’t f0rç£ me to do it. Instead, i will give up the job. Mrs Angela could be innocent of your accusations” ***Sonia said, still in doubt if Ebere brou-ght up paul’s issue for nothing***
Ebere stood up and re-ady to go, she adjusted her wears and took her pink coloured handbag that matched her t©p, she c@m£ over to Sonia and rested her palms upon her shoulders.
“My dear, if you love yourself just do what i asked you to do, and……let me not forget to remind you that the police would be very happy to hear that the killer of Mr. paul is moving about freely in the streets” She whispered.
Sonia shook with fear, letting go of Ebere’s gentle hold. The expression on her face change dramatically. She had this feeling that someone saw her and one could easily tell she was crying, though she wasn’t shedding tears nor ma-king any
sound.
“And i am very sure you wouldn’t want the police to hear of it. Mind you, there is another witness who also saw how you wickedly stabbe-d him, we have the pictures and that person is somewhere here watching us right now. Just letting you know incase you decide to try any silly move on me. If in the next three weeks you dont get him to sleep with you,then prepare to face the law for the crime you commited. Its ba-rely a year old.
One more thing, make sure you connect me on the phone when you are with him, you can mute your own end. Have a nice day” Ebere left without looking back.
Tears flowed freely down Sonia’s cheeks. She never believed a day like this would ever come. She never believed anyone saw her on that fateful day.

Sonia made up her mind to pl@yalong with Ebere. She had earlier discussed with her mother about it whom saw nothing wrong with it.
“At least, the crime you commited will forever remain a secret and moreover, i trust you will estort enough money from him” She added, ma-king Sonia’s endless thoughts grow the more. She was right about the idea of concealing the crime but that estorting money ‘thing’ was what made her give the old woman the “does this woman ever wish me well at all?” stare.
“What is that?”Her mother who didn’t take the staring for granted asked.
“Nothing” Sonia had replied.

Sonia thought of every possible ways to carry out her plans but a question struck her mind. What if David refuses her advances and s£nd her out of the house? What will become of her? She thought very ha-rd to avoid any complicated issue. She had to make sure she succeeds because if she doesn’t, she will loose everything. The impatient Ebere had s£nt her texts over the pasts days, saying she’s still waiting for a call.
The second week was coming to an end and she equally knew that Ebere meant every word she said.
“Three weeks or you face the law”
The idea of eliminating Ebere crossed her mind severally but she remembered her words again that there was another witness who also saw the way she heartlessly stabbe-d paul.
The pictures Ebere later showed her made her wish she had supernatural powers to change things. With those pictures, Ebere really got the upper hand.
“Oh my God. I didn’t mean to take his life. I know it wasn’t right. Vengeance, you have finished me” she cried.
Angela had gone out to visit a friend. David was at home with Sonia. She saw this as the perfect opportunity to begin her plans and she thought of what to do.
David was in the sitting room watching television, she wore a very short mini Sk-irt and a little sleeveless t©p which revealed a clear view of her b0ss0m. Ebere was at the other end of the mobile phone in her back pocket.
As she stepped out of her room, she st©pped and gave a second thought, her inner self told her to move on before Angela comes back. She approached the sitting and stood still, staring at him. His eyes were glued to the football match he was watching. She stepped forward, her heart beating very fast and she placed her left palm on her che-st to calm the increa-sed heart beat.
She kept stepping forward slowly. She just prayed her mission gets successful. She tapped him and as he turned, his eyes landed on her b0ss0m. Sonia noticed his countenance change and she wondered what next. She didn’t want to be embarrased.
“You called me sir” She said instead, looking at him boldly as if she was actually called.
“I didn’t call you, and why are you putting on this dress” David asked, he was having mixed feelings. He didn’t know if he should shout at her or not. Frankly speaking, he was beginning to like her for the type of person she was. Very ha-rd working, humble and respectful, with her beauty crowning it all. But for the sake of the vow he made on the alter to Angela, he always dismissed every negative thoughts to take advantange of the poor girl. But now, here she was with him all alone.
He looked at her once more. He controlled himself as a man, not knowing that Sonia had a plan in mind.
“Why are you wearing this?” He asked again.
Sonia knew without being told that she had failed this first attempt.
“Nothing sir, just that i was feeling heat so i decided to wear this clothes” She answered, tou-ching the clothes as if David didn’t see them.
“Is the fan in your room no longer working? Go to your room and change” David finally said and faced the football match he was watching.
“I am sorry sir” Sonia drawled and started walking away slowly.” Ebere surely must be angry over there” She thought.
Few hours later, Angela called and informed David that she won’t be returning home that very day. She had gone to see her parents with the hope of returning that same day but something c@m£ up which made her mother ask her to call her husband and inform him she won’t be returning that day.
After ending the converstion on the phone with his wife, he called Sonia to inform her that her madam would not come home that day, so that would not prepare her dinner. Sonia nodded in comprehension.
“Another chance” she thought and smiled to herself.
When it was time to start preparing dinner, she carefully prepared it and went into her room.
It was 7.45pm and David was getting hungry. Sonia ought to have called him to come and eat.
“Sonia” he called.
There was no answer.
He kept calling her name while heading to the kitchen. She wasn’t there. He headed to her room, still calling her name. As he opened the door to her room, he found her
slee-ping on the be-d without putting any clothes on.
David was shocked at the sight he beheld.
As a man that he was, he got filled with mixed feelings.
