Sebastian’s POV

We heard screaming coming from the hallway.

“What’s going on?” my father asked, rising from his chair and I followed suit. We rushed out the door and followed the noise to the stairs, and my eyes dreaded the sight.

Emily was lying on the floor with blood circulating the back of her head. Cuts and bruises were visible and she wasn’t moving.

“WHAT HAPPENED!?” I shouted at the top of my lungs.

“We don’t know, Prince Sebastian. We were in the kitchen and we heard a tumbling. When we got here, we found her just like this. She must have trip over her shoe laces, lost her balance or something,” one of the maids explained with tears in her eyes.

“We already called the emergency number, they’re on the way,” another one stated before I could even ask.

I dropped to Emily’s level, carefully trying to wake her up.

“Don’t move her son,” my father commanded.

“Emily, baby, can you hear me? Emily, please make a sound, a movement, anything. I nee-d to know that you’re alive.” Tears were pouring from my eyes and I found it difficult to breath. My che-st was getting heavier by the seconds. “Emily.” I took her motionless hand, hoping to get a reaction from her but nothing came.

“Emily, it’s Sebastian. I’m right here. If you can hear me, I nee-d you to hold onto my voice. I love you. Please don’t die. Please don’t die, I’m begging you. Don’t leave. Wake up baby,” I was breaking.

I felt my father’s hands on my shoulder as he tried to comfort me. He pulled me upwards and into an embr@ce. “Son, you nee-d to be strong. She’s going to be okay.”

“SHE DOESN’T LOOK OKAY!”

“You nee-d to calm down…”

“I CAN’T CALM DOWN!” I yelled, the anger getting the better of me and I punch a vase off the wall. It shattered at my fist, making everyone looked at me with fear and de-ep concern.

“WHERE’S THE fu-ckING AMBULANCE!” I yelled again.

“They’re here,” a maid ran into the room with a team of Emergency medical technicians following right behind with a gurney.

I watched as they got to work, quickly bandaging her head from the bleeding before hoisting and str-apping her to the gurney. They rushed her out the door, to the back of the ambulance and I followed right behind in my private vehicle, with my father at my side.

_______

When we arrived at the hospital, she was already ushered to the emergency room and we weren’t allowed to see her. I waited with my father in the waiting room area but I was very unsettled. I couldn’t sit still and I kept pacing and praying silently to myself. I don’t know what I’ll do if anything terrible happens to her and the baby. I might go insane.

“Son, please sit and wait,” my father’s voice came but I wasn’t obeying. I couldn’t sit and I didn’t want to wait.

After five hours, we heard rushing footsteps to our direction in the waiting area.

“Where’s Emily, where’s my daughter, what happened to her Sebastian?” Emily’s mother asked. Her and Emily’s dad were now standing in front of my father and me.

“It was an accident. She fell over the staircase,” I explained.

“Oh my god, is it bad?” she asked.

I shook my head yes.

She held onto her husband and starting crying.

“Why weren’t we called sooner? She’s our daughter!” You better hope it was an accident and nothing happens to my little girl because if not even your kingdom wouldn’t be able to save you and those crowns would be heavy on your heads, I will let you know that money is power and no one messes with a Hollen, you are lucky Evan is not here Ethan said. His emotions were that of anger and sadness.

“We apologies, ” my father put in.

“Have you seen a doctor as yet, is there any update on her condition?”

“No. We haven’t seen a doctor as yet and we’ve been here all morning.”

At that exact moment, a doctor walked into the room. Everyone turned in his direction, searching his face for an answer before he could even speak.

“Emily Hollen?” he asked.

“That’s us,” we answered in unison.

” I’m Dr. Shaw, I’m afraid I have some bad news,” he began and my heart sank more than it already was.

“Emily has a traumatic br@in injury and as a result of that, she has gone into a coma,” he finished.

I covered my face with the palm of my hands as I cried in them.

“A coma, for how long? When would she wake up?” her father asked the doctor.

“We’re not sure. That would depend on the individual and not us. There’s nothing much we can do again, I’m so sorry.”

“That baby, what about the baby?” I managed to ask.

“The fetus is okay for now.”

“Doctor, please be honest with us and very clear, what are the chances for my daughter and the unborn baby?” Emily’s mother asked now.

” I can’t say ma’am because the chances depends on the bounce back from the individual. Right now, all she nee-ds to do is wake up. She doesn’t have any broken bones, and as I said, the baby is going to be okay. The pregnancy would continue.”

“That’s some relief,” my father stated at the silver lining.

“So she’s alive?” I asked again.

“Yes, she’s alive,” he confirmed and I looked up to the heavens to thank the miracle worker himself.

“One more thing, when can we see her?”

“She’ll be placed in her own private room in ten minutes so you’ll be able to see her soon,” he answered.

“Thank you so much. Thank you.” We shook his hand before he left us.

______

After ten minutes and the ‘go-ahead’ from Dr. Shaw, we filed into a private room where Emily was placed. Her cuts and bruises were concealed with band-aids and her head was still wrapped.

“Oh my poor baby.” Her mother was crying just looking at her state. Emily’s eyes were shut and she was not moving.

“Wake up baby, wake up for mommy.”

____

Her parents took turns in saying things, trying to get a response but that didn’t work. After more hours of trying, they grew tired. It was now nightfall and my father had invited them to stay at the palace. They left but I stayed behind, by myself, in Emily’s room.

“I don’t know if you can hear me, but I love you. I am planning our wedding. You have to be my wife so don’t you dare think about going into a coma for a long time, but even if you do, I’ll always be waiting for you to wake up. I’m not going anywhere. I love you too much.”

I held onto her hand and I don’t know if it was my mind pla-ying tricks on me, but I felt her holding on.

“Emily?” I moved in closer but there was no other movement.

Then something caught my eyes. Her sneakers. They were perfectly tied and I tried to recall if they were tied when she was laying at the bott-om of the stairs.

They were.

“You couldn’t have tripped over your shoelaces. How the hell did you fall over the stairs?”

An image flooded my mind and I was hoping I was wrong because I knew if Naomi had anything to do with this, I was going to kill her.

Sebastian’s POV

It has been two weeks and Emily still hasn’t woken up. I was in the private room with her, I had been all night long. I was exhausted, hungry and my eyes hurt from lack of sleep but I wanted to be right by her side for when she wakes up, and look at me, and tell me how much she loves me and wants to get married to me.

A knock came on the door. I looked up and saw her mother walking into the room with a large bouquet of roses.

“Hi,” she greeted me.

“Good morning Mrs. Hollen.”

“Just call me Emma. You’ve been here all night, haven’t you?”

I nodded yes.

“Sebastian, you look extremely drained. You can’t carry on like this. Emily wouldn’t want this for you. Why don’t you head on home, freshen up, have a decent meal and take a rest.”

“But what if she wakes up and I’m not here?”

“I promise I’ll call you even if she only moves her fingers for a few seconds.”

I was hesitant on leaving Emily’s side but I trusted that her mother would call me if anything changes. I slowly peeled myself off the chair and walked out of the room.

______

Back at the Palace, I was at a comfort. Naomi had went back to her country and our for-ced marriage had officially been cancelled by the queen herself before she went back to England the following morning.

All I nee-ded was Emily.

I sat down on my bed when my phone started vibr@ting on the night stand.

“Hello,” I answered.

“It’s Emma. Emily is waking up. Her fingers are moving. I’ve already get the doctors. Can you get my husband and the both of you come right away?”

“Of course. I’m already heading to his room.”

____

After getting Ethan – Emily’s father, we drove to the hospital. I rushed to her room, as fast as my legs could carry me. The doctors were already prese-nt and Emily was wide awake now.

Tears of joy rolled from my eyes. Finally, she was awake.

“Emily, we’ve miss you so much,” I began as I moved closer to her side.

“Who are you?” she asked, and I was baffled by her question.

“Sebastian.”

“I don’t know who you are and who are these other people with you, where am I? What happened to me?”

“Doctor, what’s going on?” Emma asked, “She doesn’t know who we are, nor does she know her own boyfriend!”

“This could be a result of neurological amnesia. Her br@in suffered the major injury in her accident. It was a tumor in the areas that control memory,” the doctor explained.

“I can’t believe this. Is it permanent or temporary?” Ethan asked.

“Her br@in scan shows that it isn’t going to be permanent. However, you’ll nee-d to exercise practices that can help recover her fas-ter. Like taking her to her favorite places, or bringing her friends around, anything along those lines.”

“Thank you again doctor, but when can she come home?”

“We nee-d to run a few more test and keep her for further observation being as she’s now awake, but I believe within two days, she should be cleared.”

And he was correct. Two days later, Emily was home and I was going to try everything to jog her memory.

______

The next few days, I took Emily to my mother’s special pool. I remembered how she loved the way the petals from the roses floated on the water.

“Do you remember this pool?” I asked her.

“No,” she answered. “But I like it, it’s so pretty.”

“Do you remember your name?”

“Yes. Yesterday you told me that my name is Emily Hollen, right?”

“You’re correct.” I gave her a quick hu-g before taking her hand and guiding her to my private vehicle.

______

“Sebastian stop!” I heard my father’s voice right as I got behind the wheel. I peered throu-ghthe windshield and saw her with Emily’s parents, walking towards my range rover.

I got out with Emily.

“Ethan, Emma and I have been talking about Emily’s condition and we think that it’s best for Emily to return home. Back to America. Where the rest of her friends and family are.”

“No!” I spat. “No, you’re just going to take her away from me?”

“Sebastian, this isn’t about you. It’s about Emily and what’s best for her. I nee-d you to stop being selfish and do what’s best for her. And what’s best for her is to let her go back with her parents.”

I looked over to Emily. She was just standing there, looking lost and confused.

“Fine, but can I please have this moment with her? I was going to take her to my restaurant. It’s where we had a first date,” I explained.

“Okay,” Emma answered.

“Thank you,” I responded and Emily and myself got back into my van and we pulled away.

________

Thirty minutes of driving, we reached our destination. I help Emily out and led her into the restaurant, to the same table we shared.

“This is so lovely, why you never took me here before?” she asked.

“I did. This is where we had our first date. You don’t remember being here with me?”

She shook her head no and I knew at this time, I was worn out. I had tried everything. I was frustrated and angry but I didn’t dish it out on her. It wasn’t her fault.

“We’ll have something to eat, then I’ll take you home. You’ll soon be leaving with your parents.”

“Where are they taking me?”

“Back home to America.”

“What’s America?”

“It’s a country. It’s where you were born and raised. You’re an American.”

“American. I like that word.”

I chuckled and we continued to eat in silence.

_____

We got back into the vehicle, and in the rear view mirror, I saw my favorite place I loved visiting when I nee-ded to get away or was feeling down. I heaved a sigh as I help Emily with her seat belt.

“Where are we going now?” she asked.

“I’m taking you home.”

“No. I don’t wanna go home. I wanna go somewhere.. somewhere where I can feel free.”

“Okay.” I made a U turn and drove to the cliff that overlooked the big vast ocean. I found a rock, and I sat down while Emily watched the ocean a few feet away.

I found myself crying again. The tears were just falling out. It was as if a nightmare had become a reality. Emily would be taken away from me. What if her memory never comes back? What if she never comes back to me?

I felt her palm resting on my cheek. I looked up to her.

“Why are you crying?”

“My heart is broken,” I answered.

“Did I do something to hurt you?”

“It’s not your fault,” I answered and rose. I pulled her in for a hu-g, her head resting on my che-st as I looked at the ocean now.

After a minute, her head shifted and her eyes wide-ned and she looked up at me.

“Are you okay?” I asked her.

“Sebastian?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh my god, what? how? when? Oh my god, I missed you so much!” She threw her arms around me and kizzed me hungrily.

“Emily?”

“Yes.”

“Emily, your memory is back?”

“Was it lost? What happened to me?”

“You had an accident. You fell over the stairs.”

“No. It was no accident. I was pushed over the stairs, Sebastian.”

My blood came to an utmost boil.
