★Ella’s Pov★

I woke up over the beeping sound. My head no longer hurt but I still felt weak. I look around my surroundings and obviously, I wasn’t in my room neither was I in Sonia’s room. This room was different. It was….

A man on a white garment walked in with a young girl who should be about my age or so.

“ELLA! OH MY GOD!” Wait, the young girl was Sonia. She ran towards my bed, her eyes were swollen. It was obvious that she had been crying. “Oh my God! You scared the shit out of me! Do you know how worried I was? Huh?” She asked.

I didn’t say anything but just stared at her. I mean, what am I suppose to do or say? This was the first time for someone to sound so worried over me aside from my family. She…He… They were different.

Are you wondering who the ‘he’ is? Think carefully and you will know who he is.

“Why didn’t you tell me that you were sick? Why did you choose to hide it away… especially from me. I am your friend. Your best friend. I almost died of heart attack. If not for Jasper who caught you and helped me bring you here I wonder what I would have done.”

I knitted my brows at her. “Jasper?” I asked confused. I seriously don’t know who he was. Neither do I know that someone with that name comes to our college. Hey, don’t blame me.

“Yeah. Jasper. The leader of the football team. Are you alright?” She asked now.

“Yeah. I am.” I said.

She looked from me to the doctor. “Is she alright?” She asked again.

“Hey…I just said I’m alright.” I quickly said before the doctor could speak.

She fake glared at me and said. “I had asked you then if you were okay and guess what, you said yes over five times and now look at where we are now. At the hospital!” She almost yelled the last sentence. Okay, she’s right. I just rolled my eyes and kept mute. Seriously she is overreacting over the whole situation. it’s not like I’m dead or something.

“Yeah. She’s alright. She just need enough rest. That’s all.” The doctor said. She gave me a side glance and I gave her a look that says: ‘Told you so!’ And she returned the look with a look that says: ‘whatever.’

“what is it that happened to her again?” Sonia asked.

“She just had a fever. She’s fine now. Like I said earlier, all she needs is rest and she would be fine.”

Sonia nods her head then let out a sigh of relief. “Okay. Thanks doctor.” The doctor nodded his head and smiled at me before leaving the room.

Wait, that was when I realized that I was actually in the VIP ward. No, I can’t afford this room. I scowled at Sonia who had already taken a seat by my bedside and was about to peal out some oranges.

“what?” She asked as she sighted me scowling at her.

“Why here? You know very well that I can’t afford this room. So why?” I asked.

“Really? And what made you think that I’m going to let you pay? Listen, I’ve already paid for all the expenses and you don’t need to worry about it.”

“you know…”

She gave me a warning look. “Don’t! Don’t even think about saying that shit to me. I’ve already paid and that final and if you really want to pay me back then get better!”

“Fine. Thanks, anyway.”

“Stop thanking me. You are more like a sister to me. And I really love you.” She winked and that put a pure smile to my face.

“i love you too.” I winked back.

Sonia gasped. “You didn’t.”

“What?”

“You didn’t just wink. OMG! The good girl always turn bad.” She states.

I rolled my eyes over that statement. “You are crazy.”

“I know, girlfriend. And guess what? Guys loves it whenever their girl is crazy.” She winked again.

“Okay, that’s enough. Stop winking and peal that orange. I’m hungry.”

“Alright.” She started leaking the oranges. I was just staring at her as she peals the oranges. Honestly, I really don’t know anything about this girl and yet she was my best friend. I don’t know anything about her family but I do know one thing for sure, she was from a wealthy family. But I don’t care. I’m just happy to have her as my best friend.

And besides, I can’t ask her about her family because that’s the only way I won’t be asked about my family.

The door was suddenly pushed open and a young handsome guy walked throu-ghthe door with a bouquet of flowers. He had a smile on his face as he made his way to us.

“Hey. You are up. Here, I got this for you.” He handed the bouquet of flowers to me. I confusedly collected it from him.

Sonia smiled. “Hey.” She greeted.

He smiled back at her. “Hi. I just came by to see how she’s doing.” He said.

“She’s better now. Thanks for helping us out.” Sonia said. And that was when it struck me that he was Jasper. The guy who had saved me.

“Jasper?”I asked just to be sure.

He stared at me with a smile on his face. “Yup. That’s me.”

I smiled. “Oh. I’m sorry for not realizing that earlier.” I quickly apologized.

Jasper waved it off with a smile on his face. “It’s fine. I’m honored to have being of help to you today. Hope you are okay now?”

“Yeah. All thanks to you and Sonia. Like seriously, I really appreciate.”

“It’s fine.” He said.

“Here.” Sonia handed me a half part of an orange. I muttered a thanks to her but she just smiled. “Care for some?” She asked Jasper now.

“uh…I only planned to check up on her and leave but…plans changed.” We all laughed. Jasper took a seat at my other side and collected a part of orange from Sonia. “Thanks.” He said.

“This is the least we could do.” Sonia said with a shrug.

We all chatted for a while. Jasper was a funny guy and I so much loved his company. He told us about his football team and had asked us to come for one of his competition. He had promised to save us a better seat and we, Sonia and I had promised him to be present for his next competition.

They were a great help to me. I really enjoyed their company and I’m thankful to them for being here.

“Thanks for the ride, Jas! ” Sonia and I said in unison as we got out of his car.

“Awwwn, I already have a nickname from you both. Thanks for that.” We all laughed.

“Really, thanks a lot for today.” I said in a very serious tone.

He smirk-ed as he saluted before saying. “It’s a honor. Get better, okay!” I nodded my head. “Okay then. Bye!” He waved at us. We waved back and he drove off.

“He is really nice.” I said as we walked into the elevator.

Sonia pressed the number of the floor we were going to before adding. “And cute.” She grinned. “Honestly, k didn’t know a guy as cute as Jasper still goes to college.” I knitted my brows at her. She chuckles before explaining further. “He is such a great guy, Ell. I can imagine myself on a soft cool bed with a guy as hot as J….”

I used my palm to cover her mouth and before I knew it I felt something warm go throu-ghmy palm. “Eew.” I said in disgust as I pulled my palm from her mouth and used her dress to wipe off the saliva. “You know you are nasty, right?”

She winked. Of course I know whatever she was going to say ought to be nasty as well. So I quickly shut her up by getting the door to my apartment open and walking into it.

The first person I saw was Ryder. He was sitting at my favourite couch and was also smoking while scrolling throu-ghhis phone. He looked hot being shirtless.

Wait…what am I thinking? Scrap that word, hot.

He looked up from his phone to us as soon as we walked in. Sonia turned to me and ordered me to sit. I did as I was told to.

“why are you shirtless?” She asked her brother.

Ryder shook his head as he exhaled some smoke out. “Am I not allowed to be shirtless?” He asked rudely.

I coughed. The smoke was taking effect already. I coughed again and that made them look from themselves to me.

“Ell, are you okay?” Sonia asked as she made her way to me and started ru-bbing my bag.

I nodded my head. “i…I… I’m Fi…fin…” I couldn’t breath. I can’t breath. The smoke. The attack. My sickness. I dug my nails Into my palm, as I try to breath.

“Ella. Are you okay?” Sonia asked again.

Ryder was staring at me like I was crazy.

It was getting more serious. I fell to the floor as I tried to control my breath. I need it. I need my inhaler. Shoot! What do I do? No one knows about my asthma. Not even my best friend! I clenched my fist tightly. I’m going to die. I just got out of a fever and now here I am battling for my breathe.

Ryder quench the cigarette and made his way to me and started stro-king my back softly. I look up to his face and I could swear that I saw the worried expression on his face as he stared back at me.

“Breathe.” Ryder said softly.

I kept trying but couldn’t. I need my inhaler. I pointed towards my room but none of them took a hint to what I was trying to say.

I’m going to die. I’m really going to die.

My phone started ringing. Sonia helped me fish it out. She was already panicking over my hyperventilation. I’m sure that’s what they think it is.

“Your dad.” She said in a whisper. I only just nodded. She took it as a go ahead and answered the call. She puts the phone on loud speaker. “Hello.”

“Who is this?”

“It’s Ella’s best friend, Sonia. Sir, before we start our introduction, we will need your help on something.”

“Which is?”

“It’s Ella. I don’t understand what’s wrong with her. She can’t breath very well. She’s….”

“It’s her attack. is she with her inhaler.”

There was confusion written all over her face. “inhaler? Like you mean, inhaler for an asthmatic patient?”

“yes. please hurry.”

Sonia hung the call up and dropped my phone on the table and ran into my room to get my inhaler. Ryder looked as shock as Sonia was. He couldn’t believe the fact that I was an asthmatic patient. Or maybe he felt guilty. Because in a matter of fact he was partly the cause of my attack.

Sonia later returned with my inhaler and hurriedly pressed the content in my mouth.

“Are you okay?” She asked. I could control my breath now. I just leaned into something…or no, into someone.

“Are you okay.” Ryder asked me now as he stroke my back gently.

I leaned more into him. I could even hear his heart beat and could perceive the scent radiating from his body. He smelt nice. All I needed was someone…

“Ell?” Sonia called again.

“I… I’m fine.” I stuttered as I said, shutting my eyes closed.

“This is all your fault, Ryder. Why do you have to smoke in here?!” Sonia asked in anger.

“How am I suppose to know that she was an asthmatic Pat…..Wait.” I don’t know what he thought about but whatever it was, it had something to do with me because he stared at me with a look of apology.

“why didn’t you tell me?” He asked me. I didn’t say anything. He slowly pulled away but I was still in his arms. But I like him closer to me. “Why didn’t you tell me that you were an asthmatic patient? I almost killed you! fuc-k?” He finally pulled away from me and stood up to his feet.

“I’m fine now. I mean, I didn’t die.” I said as I also stood up to my feet.

“Is that what you are saying? I fuc-king almost killed you. Twice.”

“What’s going on here?” Sonia asked feeling left out.

“I’m fine now. You don’t have to worry.” I said again, ignoring Sonia. “Yeah, you almost killed me but I’m…” I was cut short as I was pulled into his arms. He embraced me tightly.

“fuc-k…” He breathe into my hair. I embraced him back and shut my eyes closed. Today wasn’t suppose to turn out this way but it did. I can’t say am happy neither can I say I’m sad but all I know is….

“I’m sorry.” That was the next word I heard from him.

*Ryder is someone who hardly says I’m sorry. If he ever says that word to you, then trust me, you’ve gotten to his good side.*

Sonia words echoed in my ear. I tightened my arms around his wai-st and smiled. We were never friends but he…again has brou-ght a light to my dark world. TBC.
