?CHAPTER 14?

He squee-zed my hand and smiled at me, I smiled back.

“But why couldn’t the dragon lord take the book and the box back to the temple?” Henry asked as we walked throu-gh a flower garden, I don’t know if it belongs to the villagers or the jungle.

“Taking these stuff back myself is a punishment” mum replied.

“And according to the law of the temple, dragon lords do not help an offender unless it benefits the master” dad added. How did he even know about this. I guess mum told him, but why ask him for help after all these years.

“That village, why are they uncivilized?” Kira asked.

“And what village is that?” Kiwi added.

“That was kuluvato village, it’s in the map, if you turn the map upside down you will see it. It’s one of the villages that existed during the time of the dragons and dragon lords, it was the only village the dragon king was able to save from the tyrant emperor and his dark wizards who turned the other three dragons and their lords evil. Their ancestors believed that there was an extra ordinary treasure the dragon king installed in them that the outside world shouldn’t see. So they stayed back in the village and reject any type of civilization, they literally destroyed our phones and l@pt©p when we got here” mum explained.

“Woaw, crazy” we exclaimed in surprise.

“They’ve been living like that from generation to generation” dad added.

“But how come you guys didn’t see the village the first time you c@m£ 17 years ago?” David asked.

“Because there was a bridge at the cliff” mum and Ricky said at the same time, they glanced at each other, Ricky smiled at her hut mum rolled her eyes, dad stared daggers at Ricky. David and I exchanged glances and giggled a bit, it was kind of funny. I just hope its not what I’m thinking, these two should better respect themselves.

“The bridge at the cliff was still there, so we crossed immediately” Ricky finally explained.

“Crazy people” Bathny whispered and Henry laughed, I guess they also noticed what happened. And wait a minute. Is Henry now cool with Bathny, is he no longer a g@y.

“He was never a g@y before, he was just pas-sing throu-gh a phase, all teenagers pas-s throu-gh a phase” David said to me.

“Damn it, must I always think aloud” I cursed un-der my breathe.

“You basically do that when you are with me” he replied, I didn’t want to but I blu-shed, really ha-rd while he smiled at me, does he find my embarras-sment amusing?

“OK we have walked three miles” Salvador who was leading the way said as he st©pped walking.

“How did you know” dad asked him.

“Well unlike you, I was measuring” he replied and dad rolled his eyes at him, I had to laugh in my mind, he looks funny whenever he does that.

“OK, the dragon fly said…..”

“Its the ‘dragon lord Henry, not dragon fly” Dave corrected and we laughed. Henry is mad.

“Oh, sorry, the dragon lord said that when we walk three miles….”

“Turn to the right and follow the path” mum cut in.

We turn to the right and damn, three different paths were staring at us.

“He did not warn us about this” Kiwi complained.

“I hate it when people don’t give a Clare explanation of something” Ricky breathed out.

“I swear this is fu-cking annoying” mum added as we stared at the three paths which each of them looking like the right path ma-king us get confused the more on which one to follow.

“What do we do now?” Jonny asked.

“I say we take the middle path” dad and Ricky said at the same time.

“Hey don’t say what I said” dad snapped at him.

“I said it first” Ricky argued.

“Were you deaf? I said it first…..” Dad insisted.

“Boys!” Mum screamed at them. “Chill, you both said it together, we get it, now st©p arguing” she snapped at them.

“Hehehe, boys” Salvador mocked them, mum threw a stick at him, he picked it up and threw it back but dad caught it and threw a stone at him.

“Shall we go now?” Bathny asked and started walking to the middle path, we all joined her but Salvador ran to the front.

“This guy has a problem” David whispered to me, we both laughed.

“Umh guys, are you sure this is the right path” kiwi asked as she looked around the tall trees which were alre-ady withering away, some of them has completely withered.

“In most jungle movies I’ve seen, the right path is always the middle one” Henry stated.

“Dude you watch a lot of stupid movies” ru-by snapped.

“You are an idiot ru-by” Henry retorted.

“This is real life Henry, and this path looks like doom” Bathny complained.

“In the movies, the right path always look bad while the bad paths always look good and enthusiastic” Henry breathed out.

“Henry this is reality” we all yelled at him.

We got dee-per into that path and the bushes, shru-bs and trees began to look like a burnt forest.

“What the h*ll is going on here?” Dad asked.

“It’s getting h0tter By the second” Michael complained.

“I really don’t think this is the right path” Kiwi whined as she robbe-d her hands together.

“Maybe we should go back” Dave advised.

“Let’s at least see where this gets us” Mum replied.

“Its not getting anywhere, it keeps going on and on, darker and darker and more scary” I argued.

“Let’s keep our hopes high, like this saying goes, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel” Henry said with optimism.

“This is not a tunny dumb head” Kira spat at him. He wanted to throw a stone at her but the look he got from Michael made him change his mind. Lol.

“Guys I see something, its daylight” Salvador pointed towards the end of the forest.

“Wait” mum st©pped on her track as she stared at the supposed daylight.

“What is it” dad asked her.

“That doesn’t look like day light, it’s more like fire” Ricky replied.

“How would you know that” dad asked him grumpily. He seemed to be acting jealously towards Ricky since we left the village.

“Well for a fact, I’ve been in this jungle before to know what is daylight And what is not daylight and my friend believe me when I say what we are looking at right now is fire, Clara will bear me witness”

“Don’t call my wife into this” dad muttered at him.

“Who’s your wife” I blurted out.

“Marichuiy behave yourself” mum retorted, I rolled my eyes.

“Someb©dy should tell me what it is, is it daylight or fire” Salvador screamed as he co-rked his gun.

“It’s fire, now what exactly do you wanna do with gun, shoot the fire?” ru-by asked him, we all laughed, this guy is savage.

“Perhaps to shoot the fire maker, there are wall of stones breathing out the fire” Kiwi pointed. We managed to look beyond the fire and saw a hvge set of stones shaped in human heads that were breathing out the fire. The stones blocked the rest of the forest, there was nothing beyond it, no road, nothing else, even if there was a way out, we wouldn’t make it throu-gh that burning flame.

“Have you all now agreed that this is not the right path, can we now go back?” Kiwi asked.

“Yep” we replied weakly and started walking out of the forest back to where we started.

We managed to get back before the sun finally set completely.

“We should set camp here” Salvador ordered.

“Who made you a leader here?” Dad asked, if there’s one thing I remembered about my dad and I love it so much is that he doesn’t tolorate bullying or any form of disrespect.

“Are you challenging me?” Salvador asked. Dad dropped his bag and faced Salvador.

“Isn’t it enough that you kidnapped these kids and brou-ght them here, now must you order them around as if they are your slaves, when was the last time you asked them how they were faring, if they are hungry, or ask them if we should take this path or not?” He fired at Salvador.

“I’m not asking which path we are to take because I have the map, and we are in this situation right now because you and your colleague Ricky insisted we take the middle path and I didn’t object, if I had told you the path to take, we would have pas-sed this stage you idiot” Salvador fired back.

“You are not a leader here, right now we are all a team, and we will all contribute to whatever we want to do here, you won’t be the only one ma-king the decisions anymore, we all have a say here.” Dad barked, he turned to us and ask. “What do you want to do kids, would you like to keep going or would you like to rest?”

“There’s no way you can take over my crew you bastard” Salvador snapped and pointed his gun at dad, but before I could blink, dad snatched the gun and pointed it back at him and his men.

“Sit down” dad commanded.

“How dare you” Salvador yelled.

“I said sit down” dad screamed at him, Salvador shuddered and sat down, his men joined him. Mum patted dad on his back to calm him down.

“Wow, I love you dad right now” Dave whispered to me and I laughed.

“Watch this, he’s gonna sigh now” I said to him, and just like I said, dad sighed. “Now he will rob his temple” dad robbe-d his temple. “Now he will give the gun back to Salvador with a pep talk” dad started his pep talk, and then finally gave the gun back to salvador. Dave laughed his heart out.

“You know your dad too well” ru-by commented. I didn’t know he was listening.

I smiled lightly and replied. “I used to, but now, I just want him out”

“Do you really want him out or you are just simply angry” Bathny asked me but I couldn’t reply.

“I’m sure he’s sorry for leaving” Kira stated.

“Well..” Dad nudged Salvador, he sighed and looked up at us before asking. “What do you kids want to do?”

“Wow, Salvador just…..” Kiwi whimpered.

“Girl, your dad Is my hero” Kira commented.

“Actually, I think we should rest” Michael stated.

We all sat down and brou-ght out our slee-ping bags to inflate it.

“Right, slee-ping bags, ours were destroyed by the village leader” mum complained.

“It’s OK, you can stay with me” Ricky said to her.

“Really, thanks” she replied, as she was walking to him, dad dragged her back and she accidentally wra-pped her hands around him, I was expecting her to get off immediately but the crazy woman had something else in mind, she held him ti-ghtly and sniffed his b©dy, David laughed.

“It seems like Romeo and Juliet still wants each other” he mumbled, I hit his arm and he giggled.

“They look cute together” Kiwi cooed.

“Clearly we are not on the same page” I mumbled.

“What do you want from them” Bathny asked.

“I want them to feel what I’ve felt all these years, is it so ha-rd to as for?” I asked.

“You want them to feel hurt for leaving, I get you girl” Kira started. “It always hurts me each time my parents go on business trips for months without checking up on me, they ha-rd ly call, they only s£nd money as if thats all that matters, when we graduated from middle school, you were there, my parents were the only parents in our school who didn’t attend the ceremony, your mum was there, when I go for competitions, I call them to be there, but they won’t even think about it, they will only tell me that they are busy but our bu-ttler will be there. Day By day I live like a rich orphan yet I have parents, it hurts, really bad” she cried.

“My dad went to Spain for a business meeting 5 months ago, till today I’ve not heard from him, my mum always says he called and asked of me but I was at school” ru-by confessed.

“My dad has been in Afghanistan for the past one year, he has only called three times” Kiwi whined.

“My dad goes to work before I wake up, he gets back home when I’ve sle-pt off, I only see him every easter, Christmas and thanksgiving” David stated. What?

“I don’t know my parents, my aunt told me that my mum died when I was born, my father couldn’t take it, he left all his do¢v-ments and accets in my name, he Locked me up in the house, called my aunt to come and babysit me, before she could get there, dad was gone. My aunt told me this when I was ten. I found him a year ago, he has another family now, am I hurt? yes, shocked to my bones but I had to move on, only David knows about this” Michael confessed.

Wow. And I thought I have the worst parents.

“My parents rented an ap@rtment for me just so that I’ll stay off their p@rt while working at home, I like to pl@yloud music and they don’t like that, so they got me an ap@rtment” Henry breathed out.

“My parents come home everyday but I feel like I live alone, we don’t communicate, we don’t eat together, my dad spends most of his time in his study and my mum literally lives in her office near the garage” Bathny confessed.

“What we are trying to say here Marichuiy is that parents scre-w up a lot” Kira said.

“Especially Beverly hills parents” Kiwi added.

“Sometimes they act like they don’t care, but most times they are just scared because they don’t know what to do, Beverly hills parents are basically the most confused parents on earth, but don’t reject the good things life can bring to you and your parents because of your anger. Let things go” David advised.

“As rich kids of Beverly hills, we can’t crucify our crazy, annoying parents, all we have to do is to keep forgiving them, un-derstanding them and supporting them” Bathny stated.

“We don’t have a choice” Kira added.

“So plea-se, forgive them, they’ve realized their mistakes and they are sorry” Michael mumbled.

I sighed and hvgged all of them. “Thanks guys, y’all are the best” I breathed out.
David cleaned my tears and k!$$£d my cheek.

“Awwwwwwwwwww” everyone cooed.

“Hey don’t misun-derstand it, it’s just a friendly k!ss” I said to them.

“Yea, whatever that helps you sleep at night sweetheart” ru-by retorted and we all laughed.

We brou-ght out some snacks, traded the ones we didn’t want with the ones we wanted amongst ourselves.

As we were eating happily, Kiwi asked. “I wonder what we will be facing in the other remaining two paths tomorrow.

“Whatever it is, we will make it across” David as-sured us, he looked down at me, I nodded and smiled at him.
