EPISODE 19
OJOCHEMI POV
I continue to babysit Oscar till his leg was completely healed…. his mum even came to visit and saw the condition of her son….she wasn’t partial, she scolded the both of us for behaving childish and stupidly.
She made us promise that no matter what we will never try such dramatic act towards each other.
I’m not the type who promise easily because I once I make a promise I keep it.
The house was no longer how it use to be, Oscar has become more friendly than he use to…. sometimes he would just whine and cry like a baby that his foot his hurt so I can give him attention and sometimes he would just keep to himself and not talk to me all day.
I know people like Oscar, I know his just using me because he nee-ds me now and once his leg is completely heal he would go back to his old self.
my thoughts finally came throu-ghwhen he felt okay and resume back his work.
oh did I mention that tony helped him to secure that contract?
I felt like a burden was lifted off my shoulder when he won that contract for oscar… in fact I looked a very delicious meal for him to appreciate him for helping me clean the mess I created.
immediately Oscar resume back his job, he stopped talking to me…. and mind you, all those time that he was friendly he never ate my food or drink any jui-ce I touch … he was always ordering food online…I never knew one could even order cooked meal online until he did it in my presence.
We went back to our cat and rat kind of life, though the violent reduced…. I was no longer comfortable fighting with him… so anytime he tried to pick a fight with me I just avoid him and go to my room.
So, this Saturday I was in my room, sleeping, that’s all I know how to do, cook, eat and sleep….i don’t even know how to read properly, else I would have been reading.
I heard a car drove into the compound, I went to the window to check who it was because Oscar hasn’t left the house since morning.
I smiled when I saw the person who came down from the car… it was my friend Tony…. I ran out immediately in excitement to meet him.
He was just entering the living room when I reached downstairs… I shake hands with him and he hit my shoulder playfully….
TONY
what’s that? common give me a hu-g
(he said and pulled me into his arm)
it felt very strange, the only time I had my che-st face to another man or person is whenever we were doing our masquerade practice…. and it use to be very violent….. but this one wasn’t, it was peaceful and I liked it…. I didn’t even know I was lost in the hu-g untill he released me from it.
TONY
I have really missed you ooh
OJOCHEMI
you are always traveling now…. when did you come back?
TONY
I came back yesterday
OJOCHEMI
eyah, welcome back….so how was your trip?
TONY
I thank God…. where is Mr Oscar?
OJOCHEMI
he should be in his room.
I pulled his hand and took him to a couch where we sat down and started to gist.
TONY POV
Oscar’s mum had already filled me in on the new development… ali has been giving her information about the happening in the house…. and with the look of things Oscar was really changing.
Mum equally said she wasn’t sure if what she saw in her son’s eyes were love or something else… but the last time she went visiting the two acted so cool like they have finally accepted to live in peace with each other.
She wanted to be sure if her son was falling in love with her best friend’s daughter so she suggested we push the two beyond the edge and if they would admit their love to each other.
The first thing that crossed my mind was to get chenemi a phone, I have been thinking of getting her a phone before now but I keep forgetting… so I wrote it in my reminder to get her one when coming back from my trip.
I picked the post expensive phone in that Galaxy even though I knew it would be difficult for her to use…. well that’s where my mission would start.
we were still gisting when Oscar came downstairs, he saw the both of her laughing and shaking hands that he suddenly looked very angry.
I pretended like I didn’t see him, he scoffed before he came to hit my head.
OSCAR
so you did not not see?
TONY
hey bro…. what’s up?
how long have you been standing there, I said giving him a brotherly hu-g which he hu-gged back.
OSCAR
when did you return?
TONY
last night
OSCAR
big man, you are just exploiting the world.
TONY
na work the carry me travle ooh… no give me bad name abeg.
(I spoke in pidin and he laughed)
He sat down on the couch opposite us, where he could be staring at us very well.
We talked for a while before I got up.
OSCAR
you are leaving?
TONY
hell no… Maria is went to see her parents, and you know I can’t follow her? the house feels so lonely so I’m here to spend the night.
I immediately saw the shock on his face, Oscar and I have been friends for a very long time and I ha-rdly sleeps in his place.
sometimes he literally has to beg me before I would agree to sleep in his house.
OSCAR
you came here to sleep?
TONY
yup….i did…. you look shocked
OJOCHENEMI
I’m very excited, we are going to gist till morning… but I don’t un-derstand why you are standing ooh.
TONY
oh about that, I went to pick something from my car….. please excuse me.
I said and went outside to pick the things I got for her from my trip….i equally got my friend something too but it’s an annoying gifts
OSCAR POV
I was seating beside my window operation my laptop when I saw my friend drove in….i was so happy, he has been aways for almost a week and his the only friend I have… so when I close from work I just drove straight home, no one to hang out with…. I couldn’t hang out with chenemi because she was beginning to manipulate me…. don’t ask me in what way, I just know she was having this weird effect on me and I didn’t like it…. so after I got back and resumed work I had things keeping me business and we went back to our old ways.
alot of things happened when I was been nice to her that I really don’t want to talk about…
Tony what game is that boy trying to play? does he like chenemi too? I thought he said Maria is his liver? why is he coming to my house now because of chenemi.
I was coming downstairs when I saw the two of them hu-gging at the door… from the look of things chenemi was enjoying herself, she didn’t even wish for the hu-g to end… it was tony who pulled her from the hu-g and I could swear I saw sadness in her eyes…. fool**h girl, she doesn’t knowtony is just playing with her…. until tony breaks her heart she won’t have sense.
But wait ooh, on a second thought tony is not that kind of a person…. his not a play boy…. in fact one of the reasons why I kept close was because his a loyal dog.

TONY POV
I went into my car and brou-ght out the stuff i got for chenemi and oscar.
I got back into the living room and gave chenemi her gifts…she looked surprised I guess she wasn’t expecting much gift from me.
OJOCHEMI
all this for me?
TONY
is it too small?
I said smiling because I know she hasn’t even open any of the gift yet.
she thanked me and took her gifts upstairs, I took the bottle of alcohol I bought and gave it to my friend.
He smiled and appreciated it until chenemi came downstairs screaming my name excitedly holding the phone I bought for her.
OJOCHEMI
you got me a phone????
TONY
you like it?
OJOCHEMI
(Her eyes were teary)
I have never received such an expensive gift in my entire life.
TONY
glad you like it…..
before I could even finish my statement she hu-gged me ti-ghtly…. I smiled and tapped her back sweetly.
If look could kill I’m sure I won’t be alive anymore because Oscar’s eyes would have killed me.
After what seem like forever she pulled out of the hu-g and thanked me …. this time her tears had already fallen… i felt weak seeing her cry and for a moment I forgot I was doing all this to get Oscar jealous…. I wiped her tears with the back of my hand.
TONY
so if you are so excited about this phone… why not make it up to me by cooking one of those sweet dishes.
She smiled and sniffed before she accepted to cook something for me
CHENEMI
of course, you know I’m definitely going to cook you something nice….. I will be right back.
She dropped the phone on the couch and ran to the kitchen.
TONY
oga what happened? you have been staring like you are digging out gold from my head.
OSCAR
really? I can’t help but to think something is up
TONY
I have no idea what you are talking about bro….
OSCAR
Really? you got that girl a phone and you felt I deserve an alcohol?
TONY
common bro, it’s your favorite wine remeber? beside she doesn’t have a phone so I got her one.
OSCAR
as who?is she your wife? or sister? why would you get my wife a phone.
he blurted out before he could even realize it.
TONY
your wife? I don’t un-derstand you guy oh… I thought you said she’s a bush girl and a bush meat…. so when did you get married and you didn’t invite me?
OSCAR
when I say my wife I don’t mean she’s really my wife … what does that even matter? why would you get her a phone? she’s living in my house so I should be the one buying her things not you.
TONY
if I didn’t know you too well I will say you just sounded jealous.
OSCAR
that’s nonsense…. I’m not jealous…. I just don’t want you to hurt her…she’s un-der my care
TONY
from the look of things chenemi is not complaining….in fact I think she …..
I was saying but he angrily cut me shut saying chenemi doesn’t like me.
OSCAR POV
lIke wnat right does tony have to come into my house and buy chenemi a phone? she’s my property so will be the one to decide if she nee-ds a phone or not…. why would he get her a phone?
you know what really annoyed me? what annoyed me is the fact that she cried because of ordinary phone… I have stayed with this girl for weeks, I have said more hurtful words to her than she had ever heard yet she didn’t cry….. but an ordinary phone that I can afford a whole Galaxy for her made her cry.
She kept hu-gging him like she would swallow him…. how cheap can one be? well she even showed me earlier how happy she was to see him….she kept hu-gging him and wouldn’t let him off.
Everything tony and chenemi was doing was just pissing me off….i felt like sending tony away but what excuse would I give him?
Like someone who has never seen a man before, chenemi went to the kitchen and cooked something very nice for tony.
Even machine wont cook as fast as chenemi cooked that food and presented it to tony.
This time around they didn’t eat in the living room, she served the phone on the dinning table.
She came back to inform tony that food is ready without saying a word to me…. she didn’t even try to invite me to know if I would eat or not.
They went to the dinning room eating and laughing while I just sat in the living room listening to their lousy noise.
I couldn’t take their ru-bbish anymore so u got up and went into my room.
Wait have you ever waited for time to pas-s quickly so you can do something, or be at a place and time look like it isn’t moving?
I wanted night to do quickly so day would break and tony would leave and go to his house.
“Oscar why are you even getting tense that tony is here? what’s your problem if he breaks her heart? after all that’s what you have always wanted…. someone who would hurt her since she’s acting all tough and powerful.
About an hour later I started to feel very hungry, I took my phone and ordered for chicken and chips….. I was told it would take an hour before my order arrive…. I was very hungry but I had no choice I had to wait.
I went back to my laptop, at least it would take my mind from the hunger and the nonsense they are doing downstairs.
OJOCHENEMI POV
If I say I wasn’t surprised for the gift tony got for me….then I’m a lier….do you know how long I have been praying to owe a phone of my own? the first phone I ever used belong to my mother…. I took it to school to show off and it was stolen…. God saved the person that stole it, if I had catch him or her? I would have dealt with the person.
I was so busy cooking something nice for tony that I didn’t even pay attention to the argument happending in the seating room.
It was during lunch that tony told me reasons why Oscar was screaming.
I mean why would he even think that I’m into tony? or tony is into me? well I don’t blame him… he has never had a female friends before that’s why he thinks every friendship is all about love.
I had it in mind to confront him but no, now is not the right time…. I would wait til tony leaves first before I will give him the piece of my mind.
Tony started to teach me how to operate the phone he got me…… he calls it an iPhone…. chai ain’t I a lucky girl? if I don’t even achieve anything, if I take only this one home…. my father would be very proud.
we stayed on the phone all throu-ghthe after learning it….. around 6pm Tony got a call from his girl that she was back home…. so he had to leave and couldn’t spend the night ad planned.
