Chapter 29

• Umbrie’s POV •
I woke up all covered up on the bed and there was little ray of light reflecting in the room. I had feeling of going back to bed and not stepping out for the day.

Unfortunately, I had to go to school.
I sat up with my hair in a complete mess and covering my face and had scattered strands all over.

I shook off the sleepy eyes and in one swift, tied my hair together. I had taken time last night to wear back my clothes tho I didn’t want to but had to.
I felt him leave the bed later after being beside me for a while.

I dragged my lazy body to the bathroom and cleaned up for school. I hurried downstairs and joined everyone at the breakfast table.
The issue about Sky healing someone at his school had died down like it never happened and mom didn’t talk about it again.

Jared drove us to school and he first dropped me off before taking Sky with him.
I walked towards the building seeing everyone else moving swiftly with some carrying projects and talking to their friends.

I got to the hallways and withdrew my books from my locker.
After doing this, I saw Keiran alone standing next to Hillary. His eyes found mine and I panicked.

I stupidly did like I had seen something I wasn’t supposed to see.
I turned my head around not letting the eye contact last. I didn’t know what to do as I folded my hands.

We are eighteen years old, yeah. We are also mated to each other but still, I felt nervous with him seeing me.
I looked again and he was already by my side.

“What’s wrong with you?” He asked staring at me and I chuckled nervously.

“Nothing.” I replied almost immediately.

“Are…you okay?” He asked.

“Of course, I am. Why wouldn’t I be? Let’s head to cl@$$.” I replied and he wordlessly followed me as I led the way.

During the pla-y rehearsals, I went alone because Keiran had soccer practice and he gave me strict instructions before leaving.
That I should not let Terry have that kizzing scene with me.
He sounded so serious when he said it but I just can’t take it serious.
Too bad.

“Alright, the both of you. Give me chemistry that I have never seen before!” Mr Sebastian said using a pair of goggles to watch us.

I cleared my throat and turned to Terry.
“Okay, let’s get this over with.” I muttered and he started acting. He looked around with furrowed brows before resting his eyes back on me.

“Oh, my love!” He said his lines and we clasped hands together.
I made the most pathetic desperate face ever as well drew our faces closer in the form of a kizz. His hands started trembling all of a sudden which was something that i have never experienced before with him.

I looked into his face perplexed since he seemed to be resisting from me.

“And cut! What the hell…” Mr Sebastian interrupted rudely as he approached us.
“What the hell, Umbrie.” He added and I glanced at him.

“Me?” I asked confused.

“Yes, you! You opened your eyes thereby spoiling the whole scene. We have gone over this many times! You close your eyes and remain still until the narrator says, the end and the audience starts clapping.” He pointed out aggressively.

I sighed as I looked at Daphne. She is the one that got me into this whole drama mess. I could have just signed into press club like a boring and stressed ‘Umbrie’ would.

After the traumatizing rehearsal which I’m planning on quitting, I get to the hallway where the notice board had been updated and students gathered around gazing at it.

I felt the ground giving way for me to fall into when I realized exams were fast approaching. I panic so much because I’m bad at my grades and the studying group wasn’t helping like it should.
Scott stopped coming because of his job and I’m left to read without help when everyone studies.
I can’t do this right now. I’m not ready!

Some students seemed excited about it and they talked about advancing their reading schedule. I suddenly felt like grabbing Harry’s gl@$$es and breaking them in two.
He is so lucky anyway. Lots of them are so lucky!

With a broken heart, I walked back to cl@$$ as the bells rang loudly.

I sat down on my chair and wanted to rest by head but Keiran came in in his sports jersey and stopped right before me.

“You can start studying with me after school. My teacher can help you out with all the subjects.” He said and my wolf growled.

‘Oh, so now we made love after a long time, he can now read my mind?’

“Okay. I accept.” I muttered and focused back on the empty desk.

“You talk like you have a choice.” He scoffed before leaving.

I rolled my eyes with a smile across my li-ps.

• During After School Tutoring •

I sat at the first row while Keiran was sitting at the second row right next to my seat.
There was no one else but just the both of us and of course, the teacher.

She seemed nice. Completely not how I imagined her when Keiran first tried to make me jealous.

She was a great teacher but I just couldn’t concentrate since my mate was right behind me and staring at me.

He told me things throu-ghmind link which I kept thinking about which made me distracted from the teaching.
I knew what I should do — tuning him out but something in me just couldn’t.

To say the least, it was a disaster and after we finished, I took down the homeworks. He took me home though I didn’t want him to.

When I got home, I married my books and read them so ha-rder than I have ever done.

Jared came home some minutes later and we sat together at the sit-out.
I didn’t pay much attention to him since I was being a book warm.
I spent more time reading history because it was simply fascinating.

Some brou-ght tears to my eyes but most of them were eventful.

“Everyone at the pack house is going throu-ghchaos because of Keiran. He shouldn’t have left and now those rogues are definitely cooking up something.” Jared complained like he usually does when something bothers him so much.

“What has happened has already happened. We just have to be strong and be prepared for anything.” I replied fli-pping the next page of my book.

“Oh, so you are going to support him because he is your mate? Not cool, Umbrie. We should just use him for sacrifice. That’s right. He should go and find those rogues and make them back off. I really pity you, Umbrie. You are so fooled for some reasons and you still can’t leave him. What if that Louis guy ended upfu-cking you? Would you forgive him? Would you still want to see him?” Jared asked and I stopped reading.

I looked up from the book and glanced at him.

“Yeah. I will see him over and over again because I’m bound to him and it’s ha-rd to fight another pa-rt of you. You either get destroyed or just try make it work out.” I replied.

“You are insane, Umbrie. And the pack house is harboring his mother because of some deadly sickness. I wish he was the one dying and not her…”

“What do you mean? Keiran’s mom is at the pack house?” I asked stopping him on his tracks.

“Don’t you know? She has a blood virus of some sort and she has been unconscious for three days now. Alpha Damien is still trying to save her life.” He answered throwing his angry gaze towards me which softened.
“Oh, you really didn’t know.” He added.

“Let’s go see her…” I said chocking on my breath. “I want to see how she’s doing.”

“I’m damn tired, Umbrie. I can’t drive like this. I have to be strong enough for my girlfriend’s troubles tomorrow. Come on, let me be!” He gr-unted hiding his car keys in his pocket.

“Jared, I want to confirm this. Please… I was with her when she fainted at the restaurant.” I pleaded and he rolled his eyes.

“Fine. But I’m doing this because I want you to be pissed at Keiran for not telling you earlier.” He smi-rked and got up from his chair.

I followed him, dropping the text book.

It was a fast ride to the pack house and I’m glad the road is always empty or we would caused trouble for other road users.
I alighted from the car and rushed into the house. I had seen two expensive looking cars at the packing lot and I knew it was obviously Keiran’s parents own.

It didn’t take long and I saw Keiran’s father sitting outside a door. He had his head lowered.

“Mr Diaz.” Jared instantly called and he lifted his head.

“Umbrie? You are here…” He half whispered but it was audible enough for us to hear.
We both went closer and he got up.

“Hello, sir. I’m here to see your wife.” I said nervously ru-b-bing my hands together.

“Okay. She is in here.” He said pointing towards the door.
I nodded and proceeded inside with Jared.

There was a lot of wires attached to her body and she looked so pale.
I sat next to her unable to hold back the tears. She was fine that day. She wasn’t this weak.

How could this happen to her in a matter of minutes?

I feel so bad for her that I just cry.
Jared consoled me.

“She is not dead… Stop pouring so much emotions.” He scolded the first time but then I remembered Keiran.

“Keiran has come to see her right?” I asked him.

“No. Since she came here yesterday morning her son haven’t shown up and I don’t think he ever will. Jughead.” He snorted in response.

I racked my br@in. Keiran was with me yesterday on a date like nothing was happening. He didn’t tell me what was happening to his mom.
And then… he was close.
Made everything seem okay even though he look tired and then we….

I clasped my mouth shut.

Chapter 30

• Umbrie’s POV •

At School.
It was finally time for the dreaded exam and I’m glad that I was ready for it. Constant studying with the study group and the after school tutoring helped a lot and I was able to walk into the hallway with much confidence.

I met up with Daphne almost immediately and she had bags un-der her eyes. I was impressed. She might have been reading all night.

“Hi, girlfriend.” Daphne said clasping her hand together with mine.

“Hi, boyfriend. Your eyes are puffy today. You should take it easy on this exam. I’m confident we are gonna p@$$.” I soothed and she didn’t respond.

“I know. I will take it easy…” She muttered a while late.

“Great. Let’s study together after school. Just the two of us at the city libr@ry.” I suggested and she nodded without hesitation.

“That would be amazing.” She replied in relief.

“I will get you a cu-p of coffee. Come on, let’s go get some from the cafeteria.” I pulled her along.

The school only allowed se-niors to have coffee whenever we wanted but not regularly.
It was better than having to sleep in cl@$$ because you couldn’t get your hands on some coffee.

After gulping everything, we both headed to cl@$$ for the exam. We had just one paper today and that was history.
Great. Just great.

There was ba-rely enough time to revise as the teacher that will invigilate us entered early.
To my biggest shock, it was Mr Sebastian.

In all his creepiness, he walked into the cl@$$room holding a proud smug on his face. Daphne and I exchanged glances as well didn’t expect the drama teacher to be able to invigilate a cl@$$. I wonder how he had his way.

Everyone settled down and I had just my pen in my hand.

Keiran was at the back row of the cl@$$room and I couldn’t see him from where I was even if I looked. I didn’t know what to do about him not going to see his mother but then I decided to let it be. I thought about how he must be feeling and maybe he cares but doesn’t want to see or talk about her.
I felt like what we both did was wrong. Being together while she was not feeling good. I let it slide, surprisingly for me because I always try to dig up and get to the end of it.

I wish him luck and I wish us all luck because we’ve worked so ha-rd for this exam.
I even had to give my phone to my mother so it doesn’t distract me.

Mr Sebastian stumped the exam papers on the desk and turned around.

“Get ready for your exams.” He announced. “You little freaks.” He mumbled un-der his breath but since I was at the front row, I heard him.

He begrudgingly shared the exam papers across and was practically flying it around. Sherry’s exam paper was feet apa-rt from where the man had flung it to. There was chaos in the cl@$$room as everyone tried to get their hands on their papers.

It was funny while it lasted and no one confronted him about how much of a je-rk he’s being.
He was finally done and cat walked to the stage of the cl@$$.

“Oh…your time started five minutes ago when I walked into the cl@$$.” He said leaning against the table.

Papers fli-pping noises filled the air as we started writing our exams.
I was holding my breath as I glanced throu-ghthe theory questions.

I wordlessly started from the beginning and began ticking answers.

“You, over there.” I heard Mr Sebastian say and I looked up.
He was addressing Hillary.
“Yes, you. I caught you not writing which means you are probably waiting to get answers from any source. You will stand up for two minutes.” He said pointing at him.

“What? I was…thinking.” Hillary stuttered standing up slowly.

“Do as you are told.” The teacher replied glaring at him.

I remembered Hillary causing the disaster during drama rehearsal. Could that be the reason why he’s trying to ruin his grades?

“I was going to write something down. I’m not a cheat.” Hillary stated in a low voice.

“I don’t care—”

“He said he is not a cheat. Why don’t you let him go back to writing his exam and you keep a close eye on him so get doesn’t get to cheat.” Keiran intervened from the back row.

Everyone looked at him and he was gazing at Mr Sebastian — eyeball to eyeball.

“Fine but just know I will exp-ose your tricks if you try anything funny.” He told Hillary who sat down after.

The exam went on and we all got our fair share of Mr Sebastian’s trouble.

I was standing next to my locker after the examination and taking the books I nee-ded for the next subjects. The next exam was in two days.

Then on Saturday, we will be displa-ying the pla-y in front of students and guests.

“Umbrie.” Someone called and when I looked up, it was Terry.

This should be the first time he’s confronting me. That’s a first.

“Hi.”

“I really wanted to apologize for what happened the other day during rehearsal. I was being weird and just know that it’s not your fault.” He said and I shrugged.

Wow. I wasn’t expecting that.

“You don’t have to worry about it. Can’t wait to get the pla-y over with this Saturday.” I replied.

He smiled nervously.
Such a good looking guy.

“What are you doing with ‘my girlfriend’?” I heard from behind and when I looked, it was Keiran.
Of course it is.
Daphne sounds more feminine.

“Nothing. I’m off now.” Terry replied immediately before rushing away.

“I am not encouraging you to become a scare crow.” I pointed out and he scoffed.

“How was the exam?” He questioned.

“It was good. I don’t know. Tryna forget about it.” I answered.

• After School •

I was at the libr@ry at the agreed time Daphne and I agreed on but there was no sign of her. I waited for thirty minutes before calling her up but she wasn’t answering which was very much unlike her.

I gathered my books back into my bag and left for her house.
Something is not right. She can’t just bail the last minute.

Though one pa-rt of me wanted to go see her, the other pa-rt was restraining me and I was indecisive.

I don’t want Daphne to think I’m a creep for knowing her house address without her knowing but I just had to do something. Maybe we can end up reading together in her house.

I approached the house while looking around the area. I suddenly heard the sound of something breaking and it made me stop for a second.
What on earth is going on in there?

I entered the house without knocking and I almost screamed on seeing a bloody and weak Daphne crawling on the floor.

There was a man holding a base ball bat and right before my eyes, he hit her on her arm.

“Argh!” She cried out.
I didn’t waste a second as I pounced on the man. My wolf strength released my claws and I scratched his skin in the process.

“You monster.” I yelled in his face as I threw the first punch.
I’ve never felt so alive because it was the first hit i was delivering to a human being.
