Episode 64.
In the evening I c@m£ out wearing a black simple jumpsuit, Uche was just smiling looking at me and I shook my head,
“Can we go now? I asked.
“Yes ma’am, Uche replied and one of the guys threw him a key which he caught it.
“Thanks bro, let’s go, he said giving me his hand and I waved at the guys and left with him.
“Who has this? I asked as I got into the Camry car with Uche.
“Theirs, he replied and drove off.
“Lagos ain’t bad, I said looking around.
“Was it bad before? He asked.
“I was hearing some scary stuff about it, but is not bad as I’m seeing it, I replied.
“Looks like you don’t still know where you are, here is for the rich who can afford the luxury, why do Yuh think your uncle will stay in rowdy place with his money? He asked and I just heaved, because I didn’t still un-derstand what he meant but I was enjoying and liking what my eyes saw.
We got into an eatery and he made an order for me because I told him to,
“So can you relief me a bit Uche? plea-se, I calmly said and he heaved and drank the bottle water on the table.
“Dorothy……. “Just hint me on what I’m about to face, I nee-d an overview plea-se, I cut in.
“Dorathy, truth is it won’t be easy but since you insist fine. Your uncle is a mischievous man, together with the woman you served. There are others in the village in the group, but those two are the strongest among them all, he said and I nodded waiting for him to continue but he was just looking at me saying nothing more.
“Common Uche, why I’m a threat to him? And I think I’m also a threat to that witch because she hated me equally, or was it because of my uncle? I asked him.
“Dorothy I don’t know if you can take or absorb all of this, he said.
“Just try me, I said and he nodded.
“You bec@m£ a threat to him when your mom died, he said and my eyes bulged out.
“Why? I asked sitting up.
“What do you think? Hr asked back.
“What do I know? I asked back again.
“look, your mom death was not ordinary and I can swear to it. Your uncle has a hand in it with his coven, though I have no full details about it, he replied.
“He killed my mom? I asked mouth opened.
“100% sure,he alone can give you the full gist. If you want to get your brothers from him, I’m afraid the past will be dug up again, because it was like he nee-ded to take you out of the way because you were like monitoring him. i overheard him saying that to your master, that you’re a smart kid and may put scandal in his business, so it will be best they cut you off but they didn’t know how to do that so the villagers won’t notice or suspect him. He had to plan with your master who happened to be the shop owner to tempt you in all way, so they will have something as an excuse to hold on to in case they will be questioned, Uche narrated and I was just looking at him blanked until Uche t©uçhed me.
“I cant believe this…… No i believe this. I felt it, I felt everything was wrong about my mom death, her burial and everything, I said with tears streaming down my face.
“plea-se st©p, what will people say if they see you crying now? Uche asked and i sniffed and cleaned my eyes.
“I alre-ady wanted to revenge what my uncle did to me by selling me to slavery, he will surely pay for all he has done to me and my family, I said.
“Then we have to map out a good plan, that’s why I asked you to come down so we will take it slow and bring him down, Uche said and my heart was so ha-rd ened as I was alre-ady seeing my uncle down in my head……..
We got home and met the house so noisy, the guys were watching football and I shook my head wondering what’s the fun in guys watching people run round the field kicking leather into a net.
Football has never made s-en-se to me, in fact it irritates me.
“Okay I’ll retire to be-d now, I said to them.
“This early? Common come join us watch the ball and help yourself with the wine. St©p isolating yourself girl, one of the guys said and Uche nodded at me.
“Sorry i don’t watch football, I said.
“We are so sorry for that, but can you give us 15 more minutes it will be over? Another asked.
“Okay then I’ll go change up, I’ll be back, I replied and left them.
I got to my room and checked my phone to see missed calls from Chinwe and i rolled my eyes,
“Oh not again, I said and returned the call.
“Like seriously Dorathy! Chinwe shouted.
“I’m sorry, I just got to see the missed calls, I said.
“Same with Uche huh? She asked.
“Uche? We were together, we are just coming back from sitting out, probably we didn’t get to hear the phone ring, biko no vex, I said.
“I should not vex? That you went to Lagos just for a day Dora and we are alre-ady forgotten, she said.
“No nah, babe you don’t even know what’s going on here. Its more serious than i thought, I said.
“What’s going on? Did you get to hear any strange news about your uncle? She asked calming down.
“He is responsible for my mom death, though we don’t really know the full gist, only he can tell us what he used my mom for and that’s the ha-rd p@rt of it. We nee-d to get him at all cost and end his wickedness, I replied.
“Are you serious? He killed your mom, gosh! Dora is it not dangerous for you and how are you planning to bring him down? She asked.
“We haven’t come up with something yet, but tomorrow I’ll be going with them to have a glance at my brothers. I was thinking, if i can know the school they attend here, i can try visit them there and see if they will come with me, I said.
“No don’t do that, you don’t know your brothers anymore, what if your uncle has alre-ady poisoned their mind? She asked.
“Chinwe my brothers love me and they can at least saw what happened in the village before i disappeared, I’m sure they must miss me and want to see me. They should be smarter than this, I said.
“Remember they were very young and still young, st©p sounding like they are adults able to un-derstand what’s going on. Dorothy plea-se tell Uche this, let him be aware of all your plans i beg you, she said.
“Don’t worry Chinwe, i will be careful. What I am worried now is the business, because I don’t know when all this will be over for me to come back, plea-se take care of everything over there including the building, I said.
“You’re talking like we are not here right? She asker and i smiled.
“I trust you and your engineer, but don’t worry i promise to hint you on every matter over here, i said.
“If you like o, so how was the d@t£ between you two? She asked and I rolled my eyes.
“Just dinner okay, nothing serious after all we were talking mostly about Manfred that’s all, I replied.
“So boring, anyway plea-se be careful and biko don’t make any decision on your own because i don’t trust you, she said and i nodded.
“Thank you, where’s my baby? I asked.
“The professor is re-ading her books, she replied.
“That’s my baby, my regards to her okay, in fact I’ll hear her voice tomorrow. Good night, I said.
“Good night, she said and i dropped the call.
With the call and change up, 15 minutes alre-ady el@psed and i over heard the guys talking among themselves who dribbled best and the rest of it. I slowly walked in to see them very happy, looks like their team won.
“Arhhh Dora come join us, one of them shouted getting a glas-s for me.
I checked out the wine and saw it was alcoholic and I shook My head,
“No plea-se i don’t take this and I’ve never tried this br@nd, i said and they laughed at me.
“Girl start getting tough, you nee-d this to calm your head, this gives us moral and the strength okay, one of them said.
“Common Dora its safe, Uche said.
“Girl you Better start today o, because tomorrow we are hitting the club and you are coming with us, another said and my eyes bulged out.
“What! I shouted and Uche gave me a glas-s with wine smiling, and i slowly gave a cheer and tasted it. It didn’t taste bad, and that was how I had 4 glas-s alre-ady without knowing while we talked and laughed.
Soon the guys phone began to ring, they got up hanging their shi-t on their shoulder and promised to be back leaving i and Uche alone.
I was alre-ady drun!kand my favourite song began to pla-y, i stood up to dance to it but almost fell if Uche had not held me.
We looked at ourselves for a while as we were very close to each other, and my eyes were alre-ady closing like i wanted him to me, but I felt a sharp headache and felt like throwing up.
