mother why
episode 9
Mrs Melinda kept having series of nightmare, how a beautiful woman was dragging her husband with her, the dream could for days and she could no longer take it so she ran to her pastor for help.
MRS MELINDA
sir, you nee-d to help me, I think there’s a serious problem coming into my family.
(she said crying)
PASTOR
You nee-d to calm down madam, there’s nothing too difficult for my God to do….. let us pray.
Mrs Melinda went on her knees immediately, as pastor Sam prayed, the holy Spirit revealed to him everything that was happening, after he finish praying he asked her to get up and seat down.
PASTOR SAM
As I was praying, the holy Spirit reveled to me that your husband is un-der a stronger spell, and the reason why he hasn’t fall into the trap of the enemy is because of the grace of God upon because God is love, and wherever love is that is where my God dwells.
MRS MELINDA
un-der a spell? how pastor? who would hypnotized my husband?
PASTOR SAM
(he smiled)
my sister, this world is a wicked place… I will advice you go on a seven days fasting and prayers….I’m certain that after this the Lord will resto-re back peace into your life and family.
MRS MELINDA
amen.
pastor Sam wrote some verse of Bible for her to be reading during that period of her fasting and prayers.
he asked her to knee down while he prayed for her before she left.
Mrs chioma sent Amelia to get her something at the supermarket down the street, since she has refuse to resume the job they gave her a hundred thousand naira to start, Mrs chioma has hated her even more for being silly and stupid, so she sent her to anywhere she wants without giving her transport.
AMELIA
mum, the supermarket is not at our backyard, the supermarket you are sending me to is very far, I can’t trek there ma.
Mrs chioma re-adjusted herself on her seat to look at Amelia, she wasn’t sure Amelia had just refuse to go buy her something at the supermarket.
MRS CHIOMA
did you just say something?
AMELIA
mum, I said give me money for transportation please.
Mrs chioma got up to bounce on her but Amelia quickly ran outside before she had the chance to.
Amelia trekked from her house to the supermarket, she felt tire at some point and sat at a place to rest.
where she sat a car drove pas-s her, but slowly reverse back and stopped in front of her.
Michael came to visit a friend who just moved to that neighborhood, he wasn’t sure of the direction his friend gave him so he missed his way, only for him to burst out in another road and saw someone that looks like the girl he employed weeks back, he had to stop to confirm it.
Amelia was shock to see Michael, immediately she recognized him she wanted to run away but Michael grabbed her, because of the for-ce he used in holding her, her gown got torn.
The moment became awkward, Amelia felt shy and Michael felt ashamed of himself for using a for-ce on a woman.
MICHAEL
I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean for this to happen
AMELIA
(She held the place that was torn)
it’s okay, it’s fine
she said and tried to walk away again but Michael ran to stand in front of her.
MICHAEL
let’s leave here so I can get you another dress please.
AMELIA
thank you sir, my mother sent me on an errand, she will kill me if I don’t return early with this.
(she said showing him what she bought)
MICHAEL
Don’t worry, I’m going to drive you home and explain everything to your mum, that’s if you don’t mind.
AMELIA
Eeh? please, please I don’t want any trouble, my mother is….
(she paused)
MICHAEL
please I insist, let’s leave this place.
without her permission, Michael took the stuff she bought and put in the trunk, he opened the car door for her and she entered, Michael entered too.
immediately Michael entered his car, his friend who he was going to see before he met amelia got worried that Michael hasn’t arrived so he called him.
TONY
hello Mike, where are you?
MICHAEL
I’m sorry, something came up but I think I miss my way ooh
TONY
you be monkey, I sent you an address so how come you miss your way?
MICHAEL
come, don’t insult me ooh, after all I’m not the one that asked you to buy a house around such area.
TONY
(he giggles)
guy, when are you coming na?
MICHAEL
I don’t think I will be coming today again, or you know what? let’s meet at the club later tonight, then we can go spend a night at your place.
TONY
guy, no be so we plan am ooh, but no problem, I still accept.
MICHAEL
is not like you have a choice… buy I nee-d to go now.
(he said and hung up)
Michael turn to Amelia and apologize for keeping her waiting.
He started the car and drove away, he parked in front of a big shopping mall and came down, amelia came down too
so they walked inside together, he got her some clothes and asked her to go change into one of them in the dressing room.
Amelia felt awkward, she didn’t know why Mr Michael was being nice to her and that made her even more worried.
“why is he being nice to me? or could he be my destiny helper that the Lord has sent to wipe away my tears”? “which God? that same God that was there watching while your V¡rginity was taken for-cefully from you”? there’s no God if there was any he would have struck that bastard for me, he allowed this to happen to me.”
As all these were going throu-ghher mind, she didn’t know that tears, has been dropping from her eyes, Michael who was standing in front of got confuse, he wondered what he has said wrong that wouy make her he crying.
MICHAEL
what’s wrong miss? did I say anything wrong?
AMELIA
No, sir, you haven’t said anything wrong.
MICHAEL
Then why the tears?
AMELIA
I’m I?
(She tou-ched her face)
I’m fine, maybe something fell into my eyes.
Michael knew something was wrong with Amelia, he couldn’t place it but he hoped to find out.
MICHAEL
if you say so, go change into one of these so we can leave.
amelia nodded her head and walked away, she went into the dressing room and wore one of the dress Michael had just picked out for her.
She came outside and Michael was wowed at her beauty, he never knew she was this beautiful, he admire her so much that amelia started to feel awkward so he quickly apologize and asked asked them to leave.
MICHAEL
let’s go to the cashier let me pay for these
(he said pointing to the clothes)
They went to the cashier and paid, as they got to Michael’s car, he opened the back door for her to put the bags of clothes and she did before she opened the front door and entered.
Her stomach started grumbling so she stylishly used her hand to place on her stomach trying to control it was making so much noise. Michael noticed it and smiled
MICHAEL
I feel so hungry, do you mind we stop at a restaurant and eat before I take you home?
immediately amelia heard restaurant, her mind quickly heard “food, food food” and her stomt dance in Joy again but she was scared, it was getting to evening and she was sure her mother would kill her today but she rather eat enough and get beaten than go home without food in her stomach and still get beaten….
“I think I will choose my suffering wisely, because I have already spend so much time, so going home without food in my stomach will mean another beating for me”
AMELIA
I don’t mind
Michael started the car and drove them to a near by restaurant.

episode 10
Mrs chioma has sworn that she was going to kill amelia when she comes back, she didn’t show any form of concern that her daughter might be in trouble or danger.
Michael watched how amelia devour the plate of rice before her hungrily and that made him to wonder if she hasn’t eaten for days. he wanted to ask her but he kicked against it thinking it will only make her feel embarras-sed and stop eating.
MICHAEL
tell me, why didn’t you resume work after that day?
AMELIA
(She swallowed ha-rd)
I was sick so I couldn’t come.
MICHAEL
But I gave you my card, why didn’t you call me?
AMELIA
call you and make a complain on the day that is supposed to be my first day at work?
MICHAEL
Okay that’s fine, so why didn’t you come back after you got better? beside why did you even run when you saw me?
Amelia was quiet, she just focused on her food, Michael is asking her too many question that she can’t answer, maybe she will later but for now she just want to fill her stomach.
AMELIA
can I have another plate of rice?
(she asked)
MICHAEL
Of course, you can have as many plate as you want.
He called on the Waiter to serve them another plate of rice.
After they were done eating, that realization hit Amelia that she has actually spent more than five hours out since her mother sent her.
AMELIA
please I want to go before my mother kills me.
MICHAEL
Your mother? well it’s okay, I will just will just clear the bills and take you home.
AMELIA
Thank you.
She got up and went outside to wait for him at his car, he joined her and they left.
Amara was already back from work, she looked super excited because Mr Patrick has promise to take her out for shopping after the close of work the next day.
one look at her face, you will know she’s over joyed.
Amara’s smiled died down when she saw how angry her mother loooked, she went inside to check her sister before she came back to meet her mother
AMARA
Good evening mama
MRS CHIOMA
Welcome back, how was work today?
AMARA
(She smiled)
work was fine…. mum why are you looking like this? and where is that stupid girl?
MRS CHIOMA
you won’t believe it that, since morning that I sent your sister out to get me something from the supermarket she hasn’t return yet.
AMARA
mama!!! you scared me, I was even thinking something serious happened self ….. Amelia is a full grown woman she can take care of herself.
MRS CHIOMA
you think I’m worried that something might have happened to her? I’m angry because she didn’t bring the stuff I sent her so I could cook you dinner.
AMARA
What? so you mean there’s nothing for me to eat?
MRS CHIOMA
All thanks to your sister.
they heard a car horn at their gate, nobody got up to check because they thought amelia would never be attra-cted to rich men with her way of dressing, let a alone bringing a wealthy man home.
Michael came down from the car and helped Amelia brou-ght out her things from the trunk.
MICHAEL
can I help you take them inside?
AMELIA
My sister should be back by now, my family ain’t the welcoming type so please just go, I don’t want you to be embarras-sed by them.
MICHAEL
common, I’m sure they ain’t as bad as you sound.
AMELIA
I know what I’m saying….. please just go.
MICHAEL
I insist please.
Amelia allowed him to carry some of her loads for her while she use her other hand to open the gate for them.
immediately Mrs Chioma heard the gate open she went to the window to check if it was her daughter, comfirming it was her she ran into her room to bring her cane.
Amelia opened the door and came inside, she was so scared and pray her family don’t embarras-s her in front of her guest.
Amara and her mother for a long time didn’t take notice of amelia, they were staring at the handsome young man standing beside Amelia with load in his hands.
MICHAEL
GOod evening ma
(he said politely)
MRS CHIOMA
And you are?
(she asked ignoring his greeting)
AMELIA
mum, his my boss, the owner of “great kids international” the one I told you I was to work with.
AMARA
(Amara finally found her voice)
Oh wow, hi sir, we are very please to meet you…..please excuse me.
she went outside, she wanted to be sure amelia wasn’t playing prank on she and her mother, she went to confirm the kind of car Michael came with to be sure.
She immediately ran back inside and whispered something to the mother’s ead.
AMARA
mum, this guy is Fu*king rich, you should see the car he came with.
MRS CHIOMA
(She smiled)
Amelia dear, won’t you get your boss something to drink?
AMELIA
Ma?
she asked confused because her mother has never refer to her as “dear” before so what could have changed?
AMARA
big sis, don’t worry I will get him something to drink.
MICHAEL
Actually I’m full, maybe when next I visit.
MRS CHIOMA
So, how did you meet my daughter, I mean today?
MICHAEL
Oh, I saw her on my way going go see a Friend, I recognized her as someone who came to look for job in my school weeks ago, so I stopped and luckily for me she was the one.
MRS CHIOMA
oh that’s nice, my daughter couldn’t resume back because she was terribly sick, we took her to the hospital for bed rest…. I did spend a lot of money but I thank God she’s okay now.
Amelia couldn’t hide her shock, she can’t believe her mother would lie this much in the presence of her boss.
Michael stayed with them for a while before he got up that he was leaving.
MRS CHIOMA
it was nice having you around, I hope you will visit us again
MICHAEL
Of course I will….thanks for having me.
Amelia walked Michael to the gate, before she could return Amara has started to scatter the bag of clothes Michael bought for her.
AMARA
oh my God mum, all these clothes are designer, how did Amelia get this lucky?
MRS CHIOMA
I’m as shock, I’m as shock as you.
AMARA
mum I like that guy and I want him for myself….. Amelia doesn’t deserve him.
MRS CHIOMA
whatever you want you shall get my princess.
she told her daughter but de-ep down she won’t let any of her daughters have that find man to themselves, whatever that guy has to offer they will all enjoy it together, down to his manhood.
Amara started to respect amelia, the mother too treated her nicely because they were looking for something and they knew If they were harsh on her she would never give them what they want.
Amelia as naive as she is, she believed her family have changed for good and come has finally decided to answer her prayed when she hasn’t already given up on him that he would save her.
