Bethel’s Pov:
I opened the box and my eyes met with a dazzling n£¢klace flashing sparkles into my eyes.
Oh, God!
It was silver!
I sighed heavily and plonked myself on the be-d.
My eye drooped.
I stared keenly at it to be sure, but it wasn’t changing into any other color. It was real.
He got me a silver colored n£¢klace, instead of a gold.
Oh, geez!
I kept the n£¢klace on my l@ps and buried my face in my palm.
This was meant to be the last test. It was so close. What then happened?
Oh, God!
Does that mean we’re not meant for each other? But he pas-sed the first two. Why did he have to fail the last one?
Why a silver n£¢klace instead of a gold?

I woke up the next morning, feeling kinda weak.
Ryan left home very early even before I finished taking my bath. He said he had an important schedule.
I had breakfast and left for school and on my way to clas-s, I bu-mped into the school j£rk – Mawthie. Geez! I had almost forgotten someone like him existed in that school.
“Hey, blondie” he called and I scoffed.
“Hey j£rk”,I rolled my eyes and tried walking away, but as expected, he held me back by the wrist.
“Hey, chill okay? I just wanted to congratulate you on your br@nd new Bugatti” he said, still holding my hand.
“Well, you can take back your congratulations cause I don’t nee-d to be congratulated by people who haven’t achieved anything’ I snapped and he laughed.
“You really are so bad mouthed, aren’t you? Anyways, very soon, I’ll make sure you beg me with that same mouth”.
“Yeah – I’ll be begging you to die”.
He laughed again and I tried freeing my hands from his, but couldn’t.
“Now, will you let me go? I might develop skin rashes if you keep holding me this way, because I’m pretty sure your skin must be contaminated.” I barked and he ti-ght£ñed his grip around me, ma-king it hurt a little.
“Let me go!”
“Let her go!” I heard a voice say the same time with me and I turned to see it was Kyle.
Geez! Thank goodness.
“Are you deaf? Let her go”, he said again and moved closer to us.
“Hey man, chill okay? It’s not like she’s your girlfriend or something” Mawthie said as he alre-ady let go of my wrist.
“The next time I get you haras-sing her again, you’ll be expelled from this school”, Kyle stated.
“Yeah, I forgot you’re daddy’s little boy. Hope you don’t go home crying into his arms later on” Mawthie snorted and walked away.
Thank goodness.
“Are alright?” Kyle asked as he stood very close to me.
“Yes, thanks” I replied while looking at my wrist.
“You’re headed for clas-s,right?” He asked.
“Yeah”,I replied and we walked to clas-s together.

“So, you mean Ryan failed the last test?” Nicole asked as we sat in the cafe together.
The Shirley girl didn’t show up in school and I wondered if she was tryna run away from detention.
“Yeah – he got me a silver color instead” I replied despondently, staring down at my food.
We didn’t say anything for a while.
“So, does it mean we’re not meant for each other?” I asked in a low tune.
“Come on, Bethel; you can’t possibly be serious. You can’t let a lame superstitious love test determine your relationsh!pwith your husband. Besides, I never trusted that sh*t from the onset and I have no idea why you decided to go ahead with something that Crazy. You nee-d to embr@ce your marriage, Bethel. Embr@ce it and st©p acting like a kid” she spoke angrily, ma-king my eyes dim.
Woah! That was the first time Nicole was speaking that way to me.
Well…maybe she was right.
“Fine!” I sighed and took in a slice of plantain.
“Maybe…it doesn’t work after all”
“Better. I think its best if you start putting some s-en-se into that empty skull of yours” she said and I g@sped.
“How dare you??? Do you want me to pluck out your eyes?” I asked as I hit her with my spoon and she laughed.
“Chill girlfriend, I’m just trying to make you a good wife” she said.
“Hm – coming from someone who doesn’t even have a b©yfri£nd” I said and she hit me with her own spoon.
What?
I g@sped and hit her with mine again and we ended up laughing.

I couldn’t study with Kyle after school hours because I nee-ded to get re-ady for marriage clas-ses.
But when I got home, I learnt Ryan was yet to return.
I went upstairs to my room to shower and change and when I was done, I went back to the sitting room and found just his mum sitting there.
“Oh, Bethel! You’re all re-ady” she said when she saw me climbing down the stairs.
“Yes, mum. Isn’t Ryan home yet?” I asked and she cli-cked her ton-gue.
“Not yet, dear. But I believe he’ll be home shortly.” She replied in a sweet tone.
“Okay, then. I’ll just get something to eat from the kitchen while I wait for him” I said and turned around to leave.
Just when I was about leaving, I heard her phone ring and she received the call.
“Hello?
“Yes.
“Whaaat?” She screamed and sprang on her feet and I quic-kly turned to look at her.
“Ryan???” She called in fear, her eyes bulging out.
I flin-ched.
“What happened to him???”

Bethel’s Pov:
“What happened to him?” She yelled on the phone, her eyes fixed with angst.
Oh, God! What’s wrong?
I looked at her keenly, wishing I could hear the person from the other line.
“Are…Are you sure? Where’s he?
“Can I talk to him?
“O…Okay. Just make sure he gets here safely.
“Alright”.
She ended the call and placed her hand on her che-st, taking in a de-ep breath.
“Mum, what happened?” I asked as she fell back on the couch.
“It’s Ryan”, she replied.
“He was almost sh0t! But one of his guards was fast enough to see the sniper at the t©p of the building and he took the bullet for him instead. Right now, He’s dead”.
“What?” I skrie-ked.
“The guard is dead??”
“Yes, Bethel. And it scares me to know Ryan would’ve been the one dead if he hadn’t taken the bullet for him.” She replied fearfully.
Oh, my God!
So, Ryan was almost killed today?
“Um…where’s he? Was he hurt?” I asked.
“No. They were able to evacuate the building immediately and they’re on their way home alre-ady”.
I ambled abs£nt mindedly and sat on a couch.
Oh, my God! I can’t believe this. Who could’ve possibly wanted to kill him? What if the bullet had met him? Does that mean Ryan would’ve been dead by now??
I shook my head and thought pathetically. I would’ve become a widow; a vi*gin widow at the age of 19!
Oh God! Who could be after his life? He has too many enemies and that’s the problem with celebrities.
*
After a while, his mum stood up and went outside, probably going to await his arrival. She looked very troubled.
Not long after, I heard the sounds of cars driving in and rushed to the window to see it was Ryan.
Of course, it was! Who else drives in with so many cars?
I went out and stood at the balcony. His mum was alre-ady at alert and as soon as he stepped out of the car, she embr@ced him, clutching him ti-ght like a baby.
“Ryan!” She whimpered as she held him ti-ght.
He looked moody.
“Oh! Son, I was so worried about you. Were you hurt? Did…Did you develop any scratch or injury?” She asked as she unlocked from the hvg and started looking round his b©dy.
“Has he seen a doctor?” She asked his guards.
“No, ma’am. He…”
“I’m fine, mum. You don’t nee-d to worry about me” he interpolated with a straight face.
Just then, another car drove in and it was Mr Winthrop. But funny enough, that was Ryan started walking into the house, not waiting to welcome his father or something.
He got to where I was at the balcony but didn’t even apparently me a look. I also couldn’t say a word to him because of the irascible look in his eyes and I just watched him as he walked into the house with his mother behind him.
I looked at Mr Winthrop and he was alre-ady coming out of his car. Then, I walked into the house.
Ryan was sitting on the couch and surprisingly, Royce and the rest of Ryan’s step siblings were there as well.
Mr Winthrop c@m£ in immediately and it was now a full house.
Oh! Bonnie wasn’t around.
“Ryan, I saw the news” Mr Winthrop said.
Even if he was the head of the house and probably wanted to act bold, I could still tell he was worried.
“Hey, is any p@rt of your b©dy missing?”, Royce asked.
Huh?
“Its tou-ching to know you care” Ryan scoffed.
“Hey, my brother is trying to be nice here. You don’t always have to be so pesky” Judy said rudely.
What the heck?
“Will you shut that hole in your face?” Ryan’s mum snapped and immediately, Ryan took up the flower vest on the middle table and threw it at her.
Whaaaat?
“Ryan!” Mr Winthrop called in fright.
Even his mother was frightened.
But, luckily, she missed it and it landed right behind her and broke to pieces on the floor.
“Hey, dude. Have you gone nuts or what? You’re tryna hurt my sister now?” Royce barked.
Ryan was alre-ady on his feet. There was so much anger in his eyes.
“Do you wanna know what crazy looks like?” Ryan asked angrily and tried hitting at him, but his mother held him back firmly.
“Son, plea-se!” She cried.
“Ryan!” Mr Winthrop called in his de-ep masculine voice.
“What the hell has gotten into you?”
“Really? I think that question should be referred to someone else. Maybe if you didn’t go around slee-ping with so many women, then this wouldn’t been happening”, he said angrily, ma-king Mr Winthrop flin-ch.
What?
Immediately, he stormed out of the house.
Oh God! Why does Ryan get so aggressive?
“I don’t know why I had to share the same blood with that son of a bit-ch” Royce mumbled and took the stairs.
Next, his sister, Mr Winthrop and finally it was remaining just me and Ryan’s mum.
“Oh, God!” She gro-an ed and sat down helplessly.
What a mess.
The whole thing happened so fast fast seemed like a film trick to me.
I looked at her without saying a word and also took the stairs, headed for the room.
*
*
I stayed alone in the room for a long time, thinking about the whole thing. Why does Ryan get so angry and violent.
Although his siblings were getting on his nerves, but his actions were too violent. I had been so scared of him at that.moment.
But who could’ve tried to kill him? What if it’s one of his siblings?
Or, maybe an enemy from outside?
Well, that’s the problem.
He’s too popular and will definitely have a lot of enemies.
After a while, I decided to take some air outside.
On my way down the stairs to the sitting room, I met his mum on a call. She was obviously talking to him.
“What are you talking about, Ryan? What do you mean you aren’t coming back anytime soon?
“Ryan, you Can’t continue this way. You nee-d to come home.
“So, when will you be Back?
“Whaaaat? Are you joking or what??
“Come on, Ryan. plea-se”
She dropped the phone from her ear and it obviously means he hung up.
Gosh! So, Ryan isn’t coming home anytime soon?
I continued on the stairs and got into the sitting room and that was when she turned to look at me.
“Bethel” she called in a de-ep breath.
“Good evening” I greeted and she just nodded and sat down.
She looked upset.
I proceeded to the door and walked out to the balcony and there I met Lana, drinking.
It seems I can’t find a lonely place in this house.
“Hey” she smiled at me.
Oh! She was actually chewing a gum as well.
“Hi” I returned the smile and stood beside her, gazing into space.
“Care for a drink?” She asked and proffered the bottle of wine to me.
“No, plea-se. Thanks” I shook my hand at her.
She shrugged and drank from the bottle and for a moment, we were silent.
“When will our husbands settle their differences, huh?” She asked pathetically.
Hold on; is she really referring to Royce as her husband when they’re not even married??
I just chuckled and didn’t say a word.
‘Ryan has gone to one of his mansions, right?” She further asked.
“Yeah – seems so” I replied.
“Hmph. Must be really lonely for you, huh?
“Well, Ryan’s one of a kind. He’s got serious anger issues. I’m sure he might spend days alone in that mansion. I wonder if a lady would be there with him”.
I rose my brows at her and she laughed.
Then, she sipped from her bottle again.
“You know, Bethel, if I were you, I’d go to him” she added with an eye wi-nk and walked away.
I stared blankly at her and didn’t know what to say. Her words kinda hit at me.
Do I really wanna stay all alone in this place? Without Ryan?
I stayed mute for a while and turned around, going back into the house.
Luckily, his mum was still in the sitting room, going throu-gh her phone.
“Um…mum” I called.
“Yes, dear?” She lifted her head to look at me.
I could still see worries in her eyes.
“Is there a problem?” She asked.
“Um…not really. I just wanted to ask. Where exactly is Ryan staying?”
*
*
I sat in the backseat and wondered when we’d ever get to the address.
Ryan’s mansion was so far from his father’s.
“Are we close?”I asked the driver after a while.
It was getting dark alre-ady.
“Don’t worry, ma’am. We’re there alre-ady” he replied as well drove into a tied road.
The long path was quiet with no buildings – just decorations and flowers.
It looked more like a quarters.
He kept driving along the beautiful place until we got to a hvge gate with armed men in uniforms standing outside.
The gate was locked and the driver had to st©p.
Two of the securities c@m£ to us and the driver lowered the window glas-ses.
“What do u want?” The first man asked in a grumpy tune.
“Um…”
“I’m here to see Ryan. I’m his wife” I replied immediately.
“Oh! You’re Bethel” the second man said.
“Well, I’m really sorry, ma’am. But sir Ryan gave specific orders that he doesn’t want to be disturbe-d”.
What?
I scoffed.
“Well…just call him or something. Its really important” I said.
“I’m sorry, but we can’t let you in. He instructed us strictly” the grumpy man said.
What the hell?
Immediately, I c@m£ out of the car.
“I really can’t go. I just wanna see him. Call him on phone and tell him and if he still doesn’t want to see me, then I’ll go”.
The men looked at each other and the grumpy one brou-ght out his phone.
I folded my hands and waited for the call.
“Is there a problem?” Another guard asked as he c@m£ to join us.
“Hello? Sir Ryan?” The grumpy man said on the phone.
“Yes. Sorry to disturb you, but…”
Immediately, I drew close and put my mouth on the phone.
“Ryan, its me. Let me in!” I said, ma-king sure I was loud enough.
The security man sh0t me a glare.
“Yes, sir. Its Bethel.
“Okay, sir”
And he dropped the call.
“Alright. You can go in” he said grumpily and I breathed out heavily and returned to the car.
Thank goodness.
The gate was opened and my driver proceeded.
The only things around were decorations as we continued driving alone the tied road.
So, where’s the mansion? I can’t believe the land Is this big.
We got to another gate which was opened as soon as my driver honked.
We drove in and that was when I realized we were finally in the mansion.
Wow!
OH MY GOD?
Ryan’s mansion???
I left my mouth wi-de in shock and bemusement as my driver found a place to park.
No doubt, he was also stunned.
What the hell??
Was this Ryan’s mansion? This was more like a paradise!
How could someone that young own something like this?
The driver st©pped the car and I c@m£ out immediately.
I stood like a bloated goat and wondered my eyes around.
I didn’t even know what to admire most.
Was it the big capacious compound? Or the water spring in front of me which had sparkling lights around it?
Or maybe the building itself? Which looked like half heaven?
This was incredible.
And I can’t believe this is just one of the many mansions he owns.
My eyes ran into the parking lot and it looked just like a car shop to.me.
What the heck?
I never knew Ryan was thisfu-cking rich!
I looked up at the building and saw him standing upstairs at the balcony, staring at me.
Immediately, two neatly dressed ladies c@m£ up to me.
“Good evening ma’am Bethel. We’re glad to have you here. plea-se, come with us” one of the ladies said warmly with a bow.
I gulped anxiously.
Who could there be?
Maids? But they were dressed so neatly.
“Um…okay” I replied and followed them into the house.
Ryan’s Pov:
I stood at the balcony and waited for the maids to bring her to me. I can’t believe she c@m£ all the way here to see me. Why did she come?
I ket staring outside and not long after, the door behind me opened and I knew she was the one.
I didn’t bother to have a look. So, I just maintained my position.
“Ryan?” She called and that was when I turned to look at her.
Hm. Little pretty girl.
“Hey” I called lowly and took my eyes away.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Are you really asking me that? Well, I was worried about you. When are you coming home?”
I sighed and turned around to back her.
“Go back, Bethel. I’ll return when I want to” I said and heard her scoff.
“Really? Well, I guess I should get used to it, right? Each time you have issues at home, you’ll just dump me and come over here to probably have fun, huh?”
What the heck?
I almost turned to look at her, but st©pped myself.
“I just want to be alone. I’ll be home when I want to” I replied, knowing I was sounding grumpy.
“Well, I also want to be alone so we might as well share the loneliness. So, just so you know, I’ll be staying here with you till you decide to go home.” She said and I heard a loud ban-g in my head.
What?
“Now, if you wouldn’t mind, I’d like to have a proper look at the house” she added and walked away and I quic-kly turned to look at her as she did.
Is this lady serious???
What the hell?
How can she think of staying all alone with me in this place?
And look at the short dress she was putting on. It brou-ght out the shape of her big bu-tts as she swayed it left and right while walking away.
What the hell?

TBC.
Bethel has no idea she’s walking into the lion’s den
