Evan

This girl was a havoc. She actually managed
to make me regret my action and then she had
the audacity to say sorry so she could steal
me of the reason to dislike her. What the
actual fu-ck ?
“Sir,” A voice called and I lifted my head,
realising I was in the middle of a presentation.
“What is your stance on this product?”
“Um…” I looked around the dark room, trying
to figure out what to do. For the first time in
years, I didn’t focus on the work and now,
everybody was looking at me with keen eyes to
hear my opinion. “I think… I think you should
make another better presentation tomorrow.” I
said to the redhead who was giving me the
presentation.
Saying that, I stood up and everyone stood
with me. Excusing myself, I ordered Gabe, my
secretary to bring me a cu-p of coffee and then
I made my way back to my office.
Sitting on the desk, I let out a Gr0-n. I couldn’t
un-derstand why I was thinking about her. So
what if she was disappointed with me last
night? Why did that make me feel ashamed of
myself? This had never happened before.
My hands automatically went to the second
drawer of my desk and I pulled out a photo
frame. Eliza’s face smiled back at me throu-gh
the photo. I took it on our date to a beach.
She looked radiant un-der the sun, in her
orange bikini, her hair bouncing up and down
with every movement.
“That girl is weird, Eliza. Why did you left me
to be with her?” I muttered un-der my breath. If
she was alive, she would have told me to be a
big man and su-ck it up. The thoughts for-ced a
smile on my face.
“She is too perfect, too good.” I said as
Scarlet’s innocent face appeared in front of my
eyes. “I miss your imperfections. And I miss
how I could be imperfect with you, unlike that
girl who probably judges me for everything I do
or say.”
Being with her in a same room makes me feel
Na-ked, as if she could see right throu-ghme.
Every night, I feel her gaze on my back,
probably thinking new ways to change my life.
She makes me feel things that I hate to feel.
She makes me want to cozy up in a blanket
and sleep. She makes me want to have a
comfortable dinner. She makes me want to
take a long, warm shower. Normal things,
things I had given up because they waste so
much time.
Weird.
“I love you,” I said, brushing my finger over
Eliza’s beautiful face and for a small second, it
felt like I was actually touching her. When the
emotions become too heightened, I put the
frame back and opened my laptop for work.
Talking with Eliza actually took my mind off
Scarlet and I felt better.
……….
I was on my way back to my house when it
started raining. I had taken an early off to go
somewhere tonight. When I looked at my
clock, it showed 7:30. Scarlet usually closed
her bakery at 8 and Liam was the one who
drives her back. I don’t know why she chose
his help over having my driver take her
whenever or wherever she wants.
I asked my driver to take me to Scarlet’s
bakery. It wasn’t far from my office so it took
me few minutes to reach the doorstep of
Biscotti.
Throu-ghthe gl@$$ door, I saw as she talked to
Liam. They both were laughing at something
while Scarlet’s hand was loosely resting on his
arm. Doesn’t she know what men think of such
signals? ru-b-bing someone’s arm in slow
manner can make him think she wants to have
some se-xual relation with him. Clearly, she was
too innocent to think what goes in hor-ny mind
of a man.
Rolling my eyes at their action, I left the car
and entered throu-ghthe door. Her eyes
immediately reached me and she stilled for a
minute.
Behind her, Liam slowly made his way throu-gh
the door to another room, probably hurt over
the fact that he won’t get to fli-rt with my wife
tonight. Wait… My wife? What the hell.
“Evan, what are you doing here?” she asked in
surprise.
“I am here to pick you up. The weather is
getting severe.” I told her while I @$$essed the
bakery. I have been here before and this place
always smell like home, like a mother’s cozy
kitchen.
“You didn’t have to.” she said, pushing some of
her dark locks behind her ear. Her loose
waves were framing her round face and they
looked so soft from a distance.
“I am here now, ain’t I?” I said. “Come on, the
rain is getting heavier.” The loud sound of
clouds rumbling reached our ears and I
shrugged at that.
“Okay,” she said. “Liam, I am leaving with
Evan. Take care.” she announced and I felt
annoyed at how sweet she was being with him.
She walked in front of me and my eyes
lowered to her behind. She was wearing denim
jeans that hu-gged her thi-ghs and bu-tt perfectly.
Although she was short, she had long legs that
were perfectly toned. I for-ced my eyes away
and went into my car after her.
During the drive back to my house, my eyes
kept darting to her. She looked extra beautiful
today, as much as I hate to admit. Maybe it
had to do something with the fact that she was
wearing my favorite color, a white off-the-
shoulder top.
I moved my gaze back to the front when she
caught me staring at her.
……….
After changing into a black T-shirt and jeans, I
made my way to the dining table. I expected
to find Cara and Scarlet there but instead, there
was just Kelly serving dinner.
“Where’s everyone else? I said, looking at my
wrist watch. It was still an hour before Cara
goes to sleep.
“They are playing in the lawn.” she said.
I looked towards the window and it was still
raninig. Shaking my head at their childish
actions, I asked Kelly to wait while I walked
towards the small lawn at the back of my
house.
I stood by the doorframe and watched as both
Cara and Scarlet hopped un-der the rain,
laughing loudly.
“Cara, go back to your room. You’ll catch
cold.” I said to Cara who stopped moving on
hearing my voice. She pouted at first and then
looked at Scarlet, who nodded her to do what I
say. “Ask Geena to change you into some
warm clothes.”
“Okay, Daddy,” she said and walked past me
into the house.
My eyes then moved to Scarlet who was
drenched from head to toe. Her hair was
sticking to her ne-ck and her white top was
almost transparent now. While we-t, she looked
even more ethereal, even more radiant.
“Adults can also catch cold. Come in and
change into something warm,” I said to her.
“Okay, Daddy,” she mimicked Cara lowly un-der
her breath, without even realising that her
words could mean something dirtier. A smile
threatened to make its way to my li-ps as she
reluctantly walked back to the house.

Scarlet

It has been two weeks since I got married, two
weeks of being with the most workaholic
person I ever met. Evan Parker is a lot to deal
with. He isn’t usually that bad but if you do
anything that wastes his time or mess with his
boring routine, prepare yourself to suffer from
his wrath.
But I can bear all this for the little girl lying
beside me, playing games on my mobile. Cara
was literally an angel who can cure everything
with her cute smile. Her presence makes my
day a whole lot better.
“Okay, enough with the games. Time to sleep
now, Cara.” I said and asked her to give me
my mobile back. Being her mother had taught
me that you have to be a little strict sometime
to maintain discipline.
She pouted at first but then gave me the
mobile back. “Good girl,” I said and leaned
down to kizz her forehead.
“Good night, mama,” she whispered as she
snuggled into the pillow.
“Good night, sweetheart,” I said and stood up
from the bed. Tucking her in, I turned off all
the lights, except the dim light of the lamp.
With quite steps, I made my way out of her
room and closed the door behind me.
Then I went to the kitchen to make coffee to
cure my exhaustion. I had a hu-ge order for a
kid’s birthday pa-rty so I had to overwork a
little. While making coffee, Evan’s thought
crossed my mind and I decided to make one
for him as well.
Putting both steaming hot cu-ps on a tray, I
made my way to his room. When I opened the
door, I found him lying on the bed, instead of
working on his desk. He looked exhausted; his
hair was ruffled and there were dark circles
around his eyes.
“I was just leaving,” he said and stood up.
Picking up his pillow and blanket, he went
towards the couch.
“I made coffee for you,” I p@$$ed him the cu-p.
His eyes switched between the cu-p and my
face, after which he took it from me. I
observed him as he tried to cozy himself on
the small couch and I felt bad for his legs that
were protruding out of the couch in an
uncomfortable manner.
“Evan,” I whispered and he raised his head to
look at me. “You can sleep on the bed. It’s
large enough for both of us.”
“It’s okay,” he said and took a sip of the
coffee. For a moment, he closed his eyes and
a wave of relaxation washed over his
handsome yet tired face.
“Please, I insist. This couch is too small for
any of us.” I said in a low voice and took a
sip of my coffee.
He sighed as he contemplated what to do.
After a minute or so, he stood up and walked
back to the bed. He made himself comfortable
beside me and his warmth filled the air around
me. I was wrong, the bed wasn’t large enough
for me to not feel overwhelmed by his
presence.
“How was your day?” I asked in a stupid
attempt of starting a conversation.
“Busy,” he said, as if wasn’t clear from his tired
face. “Yours?” he asked.
“Busy,” I said and then added. “But fun.”
His eyes traveled to me and I pulled the
blanket closer to me on instinct. “Can I ask
you something?” he asked.
His voice was so gentle that I couldn’t help
but sigh. “S… Sure.” I said and took another
sip of coffee to we-t my throat.
“Is there anything going on between Liam and
you? Or was there something before our
marriage?” he asked and my eyes wide-ned
alarmingly.
My gaze immediately darted to him and I
found his blue eyes piercing into mine
impatiently. “Ew, he is like a brother to me.” I
said, making a disgusted face.
“For you, maybe. But men don’t consider
beautiful girls their sister.” he said
nonchalantly and my cheeks heated up at the
word beautiful. This was the first time he had
praised me for anything.
“Did you just call me beautiful?” I said with a
hint of a smile lingering on my li-ps.
“I am not blind, Scarlet.” he said dryly and the
blus-h dee-pened.
No, don’t embarss me. Go back, stupid blus-h.
“Um… Well… Liam consider me his sister. I
know that.” I said because I knew that. He
practically walked me down the aisle. If that’s
not a proof, I don’t know what is.
“If you say so,” he shrugged and my gaze
darted to his arms. The ti-ght black T-shirt was
hu-gging his broad arms perfectly and the sight
was enough to make anyone drool. “Is there
anyone else?”
“No,” I said. I had no idea why he was hell
bent on finding out my R0m-ntic endeavours.
“Don’t tell me you’re twenty five and never been
in a serious relationship?” he asked, sounding
genuinely surprised.
“Well, it isn’t that unusual.” I muttered in a
weak voice.
This seemed to interest him and he turned his
body towards me, his eyes fully focused on
my face. Nervously, I ran my fingers throu-gh
my hair and looked away.
“Tell me Scarlet, are you a V¡rgin?” he asked
and my face felt like it was seconds away from
exploding. My throat dried completely and I
stared at him as if he had grown two heads.
“I… Um… No.” I lied because I didn’t want to
appear as a weird, twenty-five year old V¡rgin.
“I… I have had… Se… Um… physical
relationships.” I stammered badly.
My answer amused him more and a corner of
his li-ps lifted upwards. “You are lying, aren’t
you?” he asked in his de-ep voice.
“No, I am not.” I shrieked, defending myself.
“Yes, you are. Only a vir-gin hesitates before
saying the word se-x .” he said, while sm-irking.
I couldn’t bring myself to look into his eyes
after I had embarr@$$ed myself in front of him
like that. “So what? It’s not a crime to be a
V¡rgin.” I huffed angrily and lay down on the
bed, p-ulling the blanket over my head.
Beside me, I heard him chuckle, probably for
the first time during the time I had known him.
It was definitely the se-xiest sound I have ever
heard.
……….
Next morning, his mood went back to being
his usual self and he left early without having
breakfast. After the breakfast, Liam picked me
up and we dropped Cara to her playschool.
I had few orders today so I first went to buy
grocery for it. By 3, Liam and I had finished all
the orders and made cinnamon bread for Cara.
I was in the kitchen when I heard a familiar
voice outside. “Is anybody here?”
I took off the apron and made my way out to
the counter. “Helena?” I said in surprised
voice.
“Thank God, I thought I had wrong address.”
she said, smiling at me. She looked stunning
in the peach fitted dress that she was wearing.
Her hair was styled in loose curls in perfection
and her makeup was on point. She was
definitely the epitome of beauty and grace.
“Would you like to buy something?” I asked
and she stared at the counter with calculative
eyes.
“Well, I was here just to talk to you but
everything looks delicious.” she said. “Can you
please ask someone to make coffee and some
cookies for us while we talk?”
Nodding, I turned to look at Liam whose eyes
were already focused towards us, more
pa-rticularly on Helena. “Liam?” I called his
name but he didn’t listen. “Liam?” I repeated
again.
Helena who had already noticed the awestruck
Liam looked quite amused. When Liam didn’t
listen to me after the third time I called him,
she finally said, “Take a picture, it will last
longer.”
That pulled him out of the trance and his eyes
switched between both of us frantically. “Yes?”
“Can you please make two cu-ps of coffee and
some cookies?” I said, sm-irking at what just
happened.
de-ep red color coated his pale cheeks as he
gulped. “Sure,” he said and vanished into thin
air within a second..
