Chapter 19: A LETTER TO LADY ENYA ( 1 )

Enya sat in her room re-ading her favourite book, the history of Lady Lola.

She has just finished taking her bath and wanted to have some rest.

Lord Rodriguez has been quit busy since morning to cover up things he wasn’t able to do while still at Pendamour.

So she decided not to bother him until later in the night.

It’s been two days now, she hasn’t practice her archery. She had spent those days studying both in and outside of the castle walls.

Even re-ading books about the Brok and it’s existence. Now, she has to visit Lady Lola’s history again.

Each time she re-ads throu-gh the lines of the book, it motivates her and gives her reasons why she must move on with her Great great-grandmother’s legacy.

” Joana!” She called in her maid who was standing outside her room.

” Yes, My Lady.” She answered, shutting the door after her. ” You called me.”

” Yes, I did. I heard there is a field in the castle, is it true?” She asked.

” Yes, and I can show you to the place if you want.”

” Yes, plea-se. But first, call Jonah for me, I must see him now.”

” Yes, my princess.” She said, leaving at once in search for Jonah.

Jonah was at the blacksmith shop. He spends most of his time there and few of his time in the castle.

That’s only at night. He wasn’t cool with the royal lifestyles and building, he prefers the normal life he always lived.

” Sir Jonah.” She called as she got closer. ” The princess wishes to see you. You must come quic-kly.”

” Is there a problem?” He asked, worried.

” No, of course not. plea-se follow me.” He followed her behind as they got to the castle, to Enya’s room.

Joana first entered to inform Enya that he was outside. ” He is here, My Lady.” She informed.

” plea-se, s£nd him in.” She said.

” You can come in.” She told him and he c@m£ in.

” My Lady,” he addressed, bowing his head. ” You s£nt for me. ”

” Yes, I did. ” She drops the book in her table. ” And it’s about our training… my training. I was wondering if it will be possible to continue it here in Brok. What do you think?” She inquired for his opinion.

” Whatever her Highness decides, I will follow.”

” Well, I have made up my mind to begin today. I heard there’s a field, not too far from the castle. Joana, my maid will take us there.

We will see it, and if it is good, we will use it for my training.” Turns to Joana. ” Take us there.”

” My Lady, I thought it would be better if you had train in the archery field.”

” There is a field for archery?” She asked, surprised.

” Yes. If I had known it was archery you talked about, I wouldn’t have mentioned the other field.”

” Okay. That would be nicer. Take us there, quic-kly. I must see what it looks like. Let’s go.”

Joana led the way as they walked to the field. Enya was in a haste to see what it looks like.

Is it bigger? Does it looks too beautiful?? She was more than desperate.

They finally got to the place, and Enya couldn’t st©p from g@sping at the gorgeous wi-de land and the boards and equipments for archery all as-sembled there.

Like it was a different school in the castle. Arrows and bows were arranged according to sizes and heights.

” This is the place, my princess.”

” Wow, this is so beautiful. ” Looks at Joana. ” Can His Majesty shoot an arrow? Does he practice too?”

” Yes, but he does it rarely. Ever since he started ruling, he ha-rd ly comes here.”

” Okay. ” She looked at the sky. ” It’s still morning, we have more than enough time to train. We must start now.”

PENDAMOUR~ IN THE CASTLE ~

Arwen has finally made up her mind to s£nd the letter, it would be better to spoil Enya’s mood than to let Anna hurt her.

She in-sert the letter into the small paper bag on her bird.

She went to the window, lifting it high and pushing it to fly. ” Go benneth until we meet again,” she said bitterly to her bird.

Exhaling heavily, she muttered. ” I hope this gets to you, sister. I hope Anna un-derstands her mistake.” She sighed again. ” Be safe for me, Enya, be safe.”

~ KINGDOM BROK ~

*

While Enya was training, one of the maids c@m£ with a white bird in her hand. Arwen’s bird.

She c@m£ to inform Enya that there was a message from Pendamour.

As soon as she told her, Enya handed her bow to Jonah. She knew who had written the letter, she’s been awaiting it for days.

Taking hold of the bird, she took the letter from it’s bag, unfolding it.

« Dear Enya;…….. »

She started re-ading, from the start on how every thing had started.

How Anna grew envious of her the very day Lord Rodriguez had proclaimed his bride and what she planned.

Though she explained she wasn’t sure yet about what Anna’s plans were, but she let her know that she was in danger.

Not also forgetting the p@rt where she heard the strange voice in Anna’s room, and her guess for it to be a sorceress.

She also told her about the day she had left to Brok, why she refused to let her meet Anna.

All this she re-ad, tears involuntarily left her eyes. Arwen promised to write more if she learns of any thing new.

She had sworn to help her and save her from whatever it is Anna was up to. She also warned Enya not to have it reported to anyone until she finds out who it was that Anna was talking to…

And what she is up to…

Enya folded it back, in-serting it inside her dress. She took countless breaths to calm herself down.

She never believed it. She never expected Anna to have changed so sudden.

Not to the extent of visiting a witch. Why? Why would she want to end her life so soon?

Why would this be happening to her??

Lord Rodriguez has promised to wed her in the next two days, will she be alive until then?

” I’m sorry, let’s continue this tomorrow.” She said in a shaky tone, leaving back to the castle.

Jonah and Joana stared at each other, ” I’m sorry for the disturbance.” Joana apologized on Enya’s behalf, following after her.

” Wait.” He said and she st©pped. ” Give it to Her Highness.”

She took it from him, ” I will.”

Enya had alre-ady started crying even before she could make it to her room. She pushed the door open, ban-ging it after her.

She quic-kly locked it even before the running Joanna could make it.

” My Lady… plea-se, open the door.”

” Joana, plea-se go, I am not in the mood to talk to anyone. plea-se, un-derstand me.” She f0rç£d herself to sound normal, but it was in her voice.

One could feel the pains, the hurt, burning in those once sweet voice.

Joana thought of where to keep the bow, so she decided to keep it in her room.

But while she left to her room, Rodriguez was coming from the opposite direction.

She st©pped to bow at him. ” Who owns the bow?” He asked.

” It’s the princess.” She answered.

” Has she gone to the field?”

” Yes, but she is in her room now.”

” Is there a problem?” He asked, s-en-sing one.

” I don’t know, but I think so.” Joana knew giving him that reply will prompt him to go to her room. ” You can not see her, My Lord.” She said

” And why is that?” He questioned.

” Because she is in a solidarity mood. She wishes to be alone.”

Chapter 20: A LETTER TO LADY ENYA (2)

Later that night, Enya dressed to meet the King in his chamber.

She offered a knock, which in no time he asked her to come in.

She bowed at him. ” My Lady.”

” I wish to speak to you, My Lord.”

” Okay, have a seat.” He ushered her to sit down. ” I’m listening.”

” I wish for His Majesty to permit me to go back to Pendamour. I’d be plea-sed if he grants my request.”

He was shocked at the sudden request. He never expected this… No, nothing like this has he ever thought about.

” And why would My Lady want to go back to Pendamour so soon?” He asked.

” I have decided…” the word choked her that she couldn’t say anything. She looked away from his gaze, staring at her f!ngers.

” Is there a problem, My Lady?” He asked, worried.

She rose her gaze at him. ” I have to go back home. plea-se you have to grant me this request.”

” I will do anything you ask for but first, I must know your reasons why. I nee-d to know what’s going on.”

” It doesn’t matter what’s going on, the most important thing is staying alive. This is for your own good, and mine too.

I must return back home before some thing bad happens. plea-se.” She pleaded.

” What are you talking about? What’s about to happen?”

She couldn’t tell him. According to the letter, Arwen had warned her not to say a word about it to anyone.

” I mustn’t tell His Majesty about it for his own good and safety.”

” You don’t have to worry about my safety, I should be the one worrying about yours. And you’re keeping me restless by trying to hide the truth away from me.”

” I’m sorry..”

” No.. If this is about refusing my proposal I don’t… ” He paused, trying to control the pains. ” Why do you want to go? Why do you have to say no now?

It’s two days. Two days and we’ll be getting married, then why? Why must you have to reject it??” He said painfully.

The h0t tears Enya tried to hide fought it’s way out of her eyes. ” I just want to go home. Maybe we don’t deserve each other. Maybe, I’m not meant to be your queen, some one else is.”

” St©p! Just st©p this, okay?!” He yelled bitterly. ” Why are you saying all this? Why the sudden change of mind?”

” Because one of us is going to die.” She said, in a shaky voice.

” It’s either you die or I die. And I don’t want that to happen. So, the only way to stay alive is to go home. I don’t want anything to happen to us, and I don’t want to lose you… because I’m not re-ady.”

” Is it about the letter?” She didn’t say a word. ” Tell me, is about the letter?! Is it?!”

Enya got up from where she sat, storming out of the room. He followed after her, ” Enya! Enya st©p okay, talk to me.

I’m sorry, I’m sorry for raising my voice at you.” She didn’t st©p until she got to her room, shutting it close before he could make it to her.

” Enya, plea-se open the door.” He begged.

” I’m not angry you rose your voice at me, I just want to be alone. plea-se.”

*
*

The following morning, Arwen had woken up very early. She decided to write another letter to her.

Enya was staring outside the window when the bird flew to her side. She took the letter, hesitating to open it.

Maybe Arwen must have found out what her plan is, and the fear of it being either one of them dies troubled her.

Yet, she has to open it.

She finally did.

It re-ads;

Dear Enya, I know it troubles you to have re-ad my previous letter, but I have to do whatever it takes to keep you safe and happy in your new home.

I heard father discussing with mother last night, he said Lord Rodriguez has s£nt him an invitation letter for your wedding.

I have been happy likewise praying earnestly that the gods will always protect you.

I also wrote this letter because I have this feeling that you want to come back. My advice is, do not come back to Pendamour.

Doing so will only make Anna do her worst. Don’t even think about declining Lord Rodriguez’s proposal for anything.

This is your only opportunity to be the great queen you’ve always dreamt of. To be with the man in your dreams.

I do not have much to say to you but, if you will listen to me for this last time… Do not say no to His Majesty. Do not return back until you have make a home with him.

I will try as much as possible to attend your wedding. There we will talk much, but until then, do not do anything stupid.

Least I forget, he has to know the truth. Only him, and no one else.

Your little sister,
Arwen.

Enya took a de-ep breath. Since Arwen has instructed her not to do any thing she will regret after, and to tell Rodriguez every thing he has to know, Enya felt satisfied.

She nee-ded some one to talk to, and he was the only one to talk to.

She knew he’d be angry for her actions the previous night, but she was re-ady to face whatever it is.

She was going to talk to him… Tonight.

*

Now she was relieved. She went out to the field re-ady for her training.

Joana was surprised by her sudden change of expression, so was Jonah.

Just yesterday she was moody but today, she looked like nothing ever happened.

” My Lady, you seem happy today.” Joana said.

” Oh, of course, I am. I’m just excited, that’s all. ”

But de-ep inside Joana, she knows there’s more to it than just excitement.

*
*

~ NIGHT ~

*

Enya was becoming impatient on Rodriguez appearance.

She has been sitting, waiting for him for almost ten minutes now and the meals were getting a bit cold.

” Where is he?” She asked Joana who was pouring wine into the glas-s cu-ps. ” What is keeping him waiting?”

” Don’t worry, My Lady, he will be here soon. ” She as-sured her.

” I am here. ” He said, Enya’s worried heart calmed down.

” Hurry, the foods are getting cold. What took you so long?” She asked, dishing the portage into his plate.” I was worried you wouldn’t come for the dinner.”

” I’m sorry, I was working on some do¢v-ments. ”

” No, don’t worry, no nee-d to apologise. Are you done with them? The do¢v-ments?”

” Yes, they’re all settled with. ” He picked his spoon, di-pped it into the portage. ” You seem happy today, what’s the story behind it?”

She chuckled. ” Every one keeps asking me that. Is it too obvious? ”

” Mm-hmm. ” He hummed. ” So, do you want to talk about it? ”

” Yes, I do. But don’t you think, we should talk about yesterday first? ”

He paused, holding his spoon. ” I thought you don’t want to talk about it.”

” I didn’t, but now I do. ”

” I’m listening. ”

” You should eat first. You might… lose appetite if I tell you while you’re eating. ” He smiled. ” Come on, eat up. ” She said, returning the smile.

After the dinner, and the maids have all cleared the table, Enya brou-ght out the letter, stretching it to him.

He took it, re-ading throu-gh the writings. Enya watched as his contenance gradually changed from a normal expression to an angry one.

” Who’s writing is this?” He asked, anger sounding in his voice.

” Arwen, my younger sister. It was s£nt to me yesterday morning. ” She answered.

” Because of this, you wanted to decline my proposal? ”

” I was scared I’d lose you if I stay. Maybe that’s what she wants, and I will do whatever it takes to see that you live. ”

” I un-derstand how much you really do care about me, but saying no isn’t that easy to un-derstand. At first, I thought it was all a joke, but when I saw how serious you were…” He paused, hesitating at the words. ” I felt broken. ”

” I’m sorry I caused you harm. ”

” No, you don’t have to. It’s time you see how much I meant my words. I will protect you with my life, you will always be my side every single minute.

I will do whatever it takes to watch you smile and most of all… I’ll make your enemies, my enemies.

And about this, no one is taking you away from me. They rather have me dead instead. As far as I still breath, no one is ever tou-ching you. That’s a promise. ”
