“Can’t you guys just get a room?!” Melanie heard a voice as she inched closer to the door.
Her hand held the doorknob and twisted it slowly, the door opened and she moved out of her room a bit.
That instant, life momentarily left her soul at the scene in front of her.
Paisley and Ace were both ki-ssing each other as though they would fuc-k right there.
Her legs wobbled and she staggered, resting her back on the wall, still staring at the duo who were oblivious of her presence.
Tears came falling like a river, her eyes widening the more as the scene felt unreal to her.
“Ace,” she whispered, tears falling more.
“Ace!!!” She yelled this time louder, gaining the attention of the others in the room. Axel was absent.
At once, Paisley and Ace stopped ki-ssing each other.
Like a slow mo, they turned their heads and both their eyes wide-ned like a watermelon, seeing Melanie before them.
“Melanie,” Ace stuttered, getting to his feet.
Paisley was not left out too, she was more than shocked to find her friend before her.
“What’s going on?” Aaron whispered to Aiden who only shrugged.
“Melanie, how did you get here? How…” Paisley stuttered, she was already sweating.
“How? How?” Melanie’s li-ps trembled as she spoke.
“Baby, I can explain. I was drunk and…” Ace tried saying but it was useless as she already witnessed the scene of them ki-ssing.
Melanie’s legs shook as she walked closer to them, her eyes held nothing but sadness, disappointment, and hurt.
Her hands raised in the air and a deafening slap landed on Ace’s cheeks.
“You bastard! How could you? With my friend?” She screamed.
“What the hell?!” Aaron tried to stand up but Aiden held him.
He turned to Aiden who only signaled him not to talk.
“I’m sorry” Ace said, his eyes were very red by now.
“Sorry? Is that what you’re going to say when you’re fuc-k ing my best friend behind my back?! You had no one to do this with but with my friend? Are you that heartless?!” Melanie yelled.
“Was that the reason why you’ve been acting strange to me? You abandoned me yesterday in the rain and you didn’t even care a bit! Even though it was obvious that you don’t care about me anymore, I still a-ssured myself that you were probably busy, that’s the reason for your actions. I never knew…” She shook her head in tears.
“Melanie, let me explain. It was…”
Melanie turned to Paisley in anger and landed a hot slap on her cheeks, making her go deaf immediately.
“You… You were nothing but an enemy to me. No girl would date her friend’s boyfriend behind her back! No one would ever do that to her best friend’s boyfriend!” Melanie yelled in tears.
“I thought you were my friend. I thought..” Melanie couldn’t finish her sentence when a sob left her li-ps.
“I was the fool here, I didn’t even know you both were doing shits behind my back. I…” Melanie stared at the both of them before storming out of the house in anger.
Ace quickly went after her.
Paisley fell on her knees, biting her li-ps hard.
“Wait… Ace has another girlfriend?” Aaron turned to Aiden.
“Seems she’s the side chick after all” Aiden said, referring to Paisley.
“And they’re friends?” Aaron turned to Paisley with wide eyes.

“Melanie!”
“Melanie!”
“Please stop and listen to me, baby!” Ace yelled as he went after Melanie.
Melanie stopped walking and turned to him, her eyes were swollen with tears.
Ace felt bad immediately he saw her tears and guilt ate him up instantly.
“I’m sorry. I was wrong and…”
“How long has this been going on?” Melanie asked slowly.
“Melanie…”
“fuc-k ing tell me!” Melanie yelled.
“Three months,” Ace mumbled, avoiding her eyes.
Melanie stared at him in utter disbelief.
“Three months?” She said,
“You were dating her when I gave you my vi-rginity too?” She asked. She could feel her heart ripping out of her chest as she spoke.
Ace closed his eyes tightly.
“You… I…” Melanie ran out of the place immediately.
“fuc-k !!! Melanie!!!” Ace went after her but she has suddenly disappeared. There were no traces of her.
“fuc-k !” He pulled his head hard.

Melanie cried heavily as she walked on the road, it was late at night but she cared less. She was in pain, her heart was in pain that she felt she might pas-sout anytime from that moment.
The thought of her boyfriend and best friend dating behind her back shattered her a lot. To think she loved them both so much.
“Arghh!,” She bent on her knees and curled her body together, crying her eyes out.
Paisley had been her friend right from diapers. They grew up together and they both went to the same highschool, they were more like sisters.
Not in her wildest dream will she ever imagine Paisley betraying her by dating her boyfriend behind her back.
Her hand clutched her chest tightly as more tears kept rolling down her cheeks.
She should have known when he changed towards her, his actions, his words…. Everything tells it all, but she was too naive to notice.
She should have known when Paisley was always asking about Ace. She should have known the night she gave Ace her vi-rginity, she should…
“I don’t want to believe this, I don’t,” she shook her head, still crying hard.
In as much as she doesn’t want to believe it, but it was the truth, the harsh truth.

Axel entered the house to meet everywhere silent as a graveyard. Ace and Paisley were absent already.
“Why’s everywhere so silent? Where’s Ace?” He asked.
“You have a roommate?” Aiden asked.
“Yea… It was not important so I didn’t bother to tell you” Axel shrugged and sat on a couch.
“How did you know?”
“Well, your roommate turns out to be Ace’s girlfriend,” Aaron said.
“What?” Axel turned to him.
“She came out and met Ace and Paisley ki-ssing each other, can you even believe they were best friends?” Aaron said.
“I really can’t believe that girl right now” he shook his head.
“Where’s Ace now?” Axel asked.
“He already left with his supposed girlfriend,” Aiden answered.
“Did you sort it out already?” Aaron asked, changing the topic.
“Yea, I chased her away” Axel muttered, pouring some alcohol into a glas-scup.

Melanie entered the house slowly, it was past 12am.
She walked to her room and shut the door gently, she went to her bed and laid on it, staring into space.
A tear sli-pped out of the corner of her eyes and she didn’t bother to wipe it off.
Her phone rang, she didn’t care to glance at it. She just wasn’t herself at that moment.
Her phone kept ringing and she had no choice but to pick it since it was her Mom calling.
“Melanie, are you okay? I’ve been calling your number without you picking up” Mrs. Brown rushed.
“Mom,” Melanie whispered as tears trickled down her cheeks.
“What’s wrong? Were you sleeping? I’m sorry if I…”
“It hurts,” Melanie sobbed.
“Are you crying? Baby, talk to me!”
“My heart…” Melanie cried loudly as her phone fell from her hand to the bed.
Her hand went to her chest, hitting it at intervals as she cried her heart out.
“Melanie? Baby? Talk to your Mom, please!” Mrs. Brown’s voice kept yelling on the other side.
Her voice sounded distant in Melanie’s ears as she was lost in her own world, her world of pain.
Melanie cried throu-ghout that night without sleeping a wink.

THE NEXT DAY**
Axel came out of his room putting on a mask, he was dressed in his usual outfit.
He glanced at Melanie’s door and his mind drifted to last night.
He could hear her cries as it was so loud throu-ghout the night.
“Why would you date someone like Ace in the first place?” He shook his head and went out of the house.

Melanie was still lying in bed, her face was puffy and her eyes were very red. There were visible eyebags beneath her eyes.
Her mind went to the discussion she had with the stranger the previous day.

“How did you end up here?” He asked, taking his attention back to his phone.
“Actually, I was with my boyfriend and…”
“He dumped you here?” He cuts her off, staring at her.
“No. He needed to attend to something so…”
“He left you here. What’s the difference?” He muttered.
Melanie bit her li-ps.
“So dumb”

“He was right, I’m so dumb. I should have known then” Melanie mumbled to herself.
She sat up and cleaned her face with her hands. She picked her phone to find a lot of missed calls from Ace, Paisley never called her, not even once.
She dropped the phone on the bed and stood up gently. She made her way to the bathroom and rinsed her face, staring at her pitiful self in the mirror.
She took her eyes away and managed to bathe before dressing up because she had a clas-sby 10pm.

MONASH UNIVERSITY***
“Melanie!” Lauren screamed when Melanie entered the cla-ss.
“C’mon!” Lauren waved her to come over.
Melanie walked to her slowly and sat beside her.
“What happened? I was actually worried thinking you’ll miss your clas-stoday, the Lecturer will be here soon” Lauren said.
Melanie didn’t say anything as she rested her head on the table.
“What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?” Lauren asked.
The Lecturer entered and Lauren kept quiet. Melanie raised her head from the table and tried her best to listen attentively to the Lecturer.

“Aren’t you going to tell me anything? You were sad throu-ghout the cla-ss” Lauren said immediately the Lecturer left the cla-ss.
“Paisley, I found her ki-ssing my boyfriend,” Melanie said slowly.
“What?!” Lauren shouted.
“It hurts, so very much,” Melanie said in tears.
“They have been doing it for a long time and I wasn’t aware of it, she was my best friend, he was my first love. My heart aches a lot” Melanie cries.
Lauren pulled her to her chest and rubbed her back softly.
“It’s okay, you’ll be fine,” she said.
“Lauren, I don’t know what to do. I can’t just think straight, I feel like my heart is ripping out of my chest”
“You just have to be calm, stop the tears, huh? You have to prove to them that they ain’t worth your tears. A friend that dates your boyfriend behind your back or a boyfriend that dates your best friend behind your back, are they worth your tears? Of course they aren’t, so cheer up” Lauren said soothingly.
Melanie held her to herself as she cried in her arms.
“Wow! Who’s that handsome dude?”
“He’s so cute”
“I feel like fainting right now”
Different murmurings filled the clas-swhen Ace entered. He eye searched the clas-still he sighted Melanie.
He walked to her.
“Melanie, we need to talk,” he said.
Melanie pulled away from Lauren to stare at him.
Seeing the tears on her face, Ace felt bad immediately.
“Talk about what? About you cheating on me with my friend?”
“Melanie, I know you’re mad right now, but let’s talk outside please” Ace said.
“And why should she talk to a cheater like you?” Lauren interrupted.
“Who are you?” Ace asked.
“I’m her friend and I don’t tolerate cheaters like you” Lauren said harshly.
“Let’s go, Melanie” Lauren held Melanie’s hand, dragging her out of the cla-ss.
“Melanie, you can’t just walk out on me. We still have some things to discuss” Ace went after them.
He held Melanie’s hand and she turned to him in anger. Without thinking twice, she hit him on the face.
“Don’t you ever try to touch me again or I swear it, I’m going to kill you” she warned with blazing eyes.
“Melanie,” Ace mumbled in shock. He’s never seen her act that way towards him.
“You know what, I’m breaking up with you this instant. I don’t want to have anything to do with you, I don’t want to see you ever again!” Melanie shouted.
She glared at him before walking away with Lauren following her behind.
“Are you okay?” Lauren asked.
“I don’t know,” Melanie mumbled.
“It hurts more than I think,” she added.
Lauren sighed.

MELANIE’S APARTMENT***
“I’m fine, Mom. I was just stressed last night” Melanie said to her Mom over the phone.
“Are you sure? Do you want me to come over?” Mrs. Brown asked.
“You don’t have to, Mom”
“How’s Paisley? Is she there with you?” Mrs. Brown asked.
Melanie’s countenance changed and she sighed.
“Let’s talk later, Mom,” she muttered and hung up.
She threw her phone to the bed and packed her hair into a bun.
“If only you knew what she did to your daughter, Mom,” she whispered to herself.
Her stomach grumbled and she rubbed it slowly. She never ate anything since the previous night as all she did was cry.
“I should get myself something to eat” she left the room.
On her way to the kitchen, Axel was also coming in at that moment, he was putting on a mask.
Her eyes grew wide and she rushed to the kitchen in fear.
“What’s with her?” Axel scoffed as he made his way to his room.

Melanie breathed heavily as she touched her chest, her heart was beating fast.
“I almost forgot I live with an a-ssa-ssin” she rubbed her chest.
“Wait… Ace was here last night, how?” Her eyes went to the door.
“There’s only one way to find out” she marched out of the kitchen boldly.
Just as she got to the door, she felt her leg shaking.
“Face your fear, Mel. You just need to ask something”
She raised her hand to knock on the door and suddenly stopped.
“Oh gosh,” she rested her back on the door.
“He’s so scary,” she bit her li-ps.
The door opened abruptly and a scream left her li-ps when she found herself falling.
Her back rested on something ha-rd and her heart skipped a beat.
“The a-ssa-ssin?!” Her mind screamed.
“What are you doing?” She heard the familiar voice.
“Huh?” She got to her feet to face him and her eyes nearly popped out of its socket.
“You… The a-ssa-ssin?” She pointed a finger at him.
The hot stranger is the a-ssa-ssin? Her roommate?
