CHAPTER 15
✧ A LIFE WITHOUT ME ✧
“Oww…my head” Jason sat up the bed as he felt an extreme bang on his head. He held it groaning. He itch his disheveled hair which looks horrible. Just immediately his phone started ringing and he picked it up.
“Hel_”
“Young man make sure you finished the porridge it’s for your hangover” Penny’s voice came and before he could reply she end the call.
“What the heck” He thought throwing his phone somewhere on the bed.
He looks beside him and saw the porridge in a bowl.
“This looks delicious” He thought to himself taking it from the table. He scooped a spoonful into his mouth and his face turns sour immediately.
“This isn’t hangover…this is deathover” He dropped the porridge.
“What the hell did she used in making this? Is she trying to kill me more or what? Who even asked her to cook?” He grutch ma-ssaging his mouth with his tongue.
“Ugh…I feel sick” He said feeling his tongue as he got away from the bed.
Tucking his hands in his pockets, Jason got downstairs to the kitchen and wowed.
“Wow…didn’t remembered having a pigsty in my house…” He mumbles looking around the messy kitchen.
“This is crazy…WEIRDO!!” He yelled going back upstairs.
“You better come out now! Won’t you come out!” He bangs on Penny’s door which doesn’t seems ready to open any minute soon.
“I’ll come in. I’m really coming in! Wei_” He opens the door widely only to find it empty.
“Umm…hiding I see…” He went in and started checking every nook and cranny.
“Where the f**k is she?!” He ran his fingers throu-ghhis dishevelled hair.
AVIVA’S PLACE.
“Won’t you really pick up?” Aviva asked Penny who just stares at her ringing phone.
“No…I can’t. I’ve to give him space like you said.”
“Giving him space doesn’t mean you have to avoid and ignore him. I think you’re getting this wrong but_”
“No…I thought about it. This might actually be the best. If I do this…then he’ll certainly miss me for sure. I have to do this” Penny said determined. Aviva only sighs.
“I’ve got to go now…will you be okay alone?” Aviva asked while she nodded.
“I’ll come checking up on you once in a while”
“You should go or that mean man will scold you” Penny shun her away.
“Take care…if you’re hungry there’s food in the fridge”
“Go…quickly”
“Won’t you be bored alone?”
“Aviva…I’ll be okay. I’ll just sleep. I didn’t get much sleep cause I was making porridge for young man. I still feel sleepy so…” She paused yawning.
“Can you leave now so I can?”
“Alright…bye” Aviva smiles while Penny smiles back waving at her as she finally exit the room. Penny sighs throwing herself on the bed.
“What do I do now?”

“Why won’t she pick up?”
“Is she ignoring me right now?”
“Where is she really?”
“What happened to the ‘I only have you young man’?” Jason mutters to himself going to and fro.
“She has been gone for hours and won’t even pick up” He stops pacing around.
“Wait! Did something perhaps happened?”
“Sh*t! I should have installed GPS on her phone..” He slump on the couch staring at the ceiling.
“Am I worrying about her right now? Me? No way…”
“This is crazy…I wonder if she’s okay…”

“I miss young man so much” Penny pouted staring at the ceiling.
She stood from the bed and started walking around the room.
“Wow…Aviva is so well organized…” She mumbled going throu-ghher stuffs. She opens her drawer and came in contact with the picture she saw then.
“Oh! Right? It’s here!” She mutters looking at necklace around Aviva’s neck in the picture.
“Why does she have it on her? And why does handsome man has it also?”
“Do they know each other?” She thought out loud.

“Why did you call me here? Do we still have any unfinished business left?” The unknown young man asked frowning.
“Of course we do…I may have lost one but I just got another. And I’m sure this is gonna fetch us more money. Would you like to see her?” Mrs Seth grins.
“Forget it. You don’t have to inform me if you caught any fish now. Whatever we may have we should end it. I’ve gotten what I wanted so…you can stop calling me now”
“What do you mean? We’re business partners”
“Not anymore…our whatever business ends here. You can do whatever you want with the fish. I careless” The young man said taking his leave while Mrs Seth fumes.
“Who cares! I don’t wanna work with you either! You came to me first!! Sh*t! But wait! He got what he wanted? Did he perhaps found that mermaid? He couldn’t have right? Sh*t!”

“Penn…Penn wake up” Aviva woke the sleeping penny up.
“Oh…Aviva you’re here already” She rubs her sleepy eyes.
“Penn this…what’s this?” Aviva showed her a piece of paper which a necklace was drawn on.
“Oh this?”
“Did you drew this?”
“Uh…I did”
“How did you know about this?”Aviva questioned closely.
“I actually saw this”
“What? You…you saw it?”
“Huh. Handsome man had this…Avi…I also saw this on your neck in the picture…how come its the same?”
“Who did you say has it?”
“Handsome man…the one I told you about. The handsome man who saved me”
“He had this necklace?”
“I saw it when I went to see him the other day.”
“Really?” Aviva took a seat looking perplexed.
“Avi…are you okay?” Penn asked while she smiles.
“Of course I am…Penn I think you have to go back now…I think you’ve gave him enough space”
“But…”
“No buts…you’ve done enough for today. Go now before it gets late”
“Alright…” She pouted getting from the bed.
“But the necklace…”
“I’ll explain that to you…later”
“Also the man in the picture” Penn said while Avi nodded smiling.
“I’ll get going then…see you again Avi” Pen waves at her before leaving.
Aviva looks at the drawing in the paper again before squeezing the paper in her palm.
JASON’S HOUSE.
Peninah entered the house slowly just to see Jason sitting on the couch.
“4:25” Jason’s voice came as he checked the time. He stood up and went to her.
“Where have you been? With your handsome man again?” He quizzed.
“Just…with a friend” She said larconically leaving him.
“A friend?” He scoffs.
“You’re staying over at a friend a lot this days. Seems you’ve made a tons of friends without me Knowing” He added.
“Not much…just one. I’ll go upstairs now” She said proceeding to leave but Jason stops her.
“Why does it seems you’re avoiding me right now?”
“I’m not…I’m just…giving you some space”
“What…wait what? Space?”
“Uh…I figured out we needed that. We should have our spaces”
“Are you being serious right now? You left early in the morning came back late and tell me nonsense about some space?”
“Young man…I_”
“Stop. Space? Alright I’ll give it to you. As much as you want. You can have it” He said obviously pissed off going upstairs.
Penny held him back.
“How is your head? It must hurt a lot. Did you took the porridge I left you?”
“I thought we were supposed to give each other spaces.” He removed his hand from hers, gives her one last look before going up to her room. Penny sighs.
“Is he angry? What am I doing I should be making him fall for me not pushing him away. How stupid of you Peninah” she hits her head slightly before going upstairs also.
STAR ENTERTAINMENT (CAR GARAGE)
Rowan whistle as he went towards his car. He opens the door and made to go in but halted when he felt someone watching him. He looks back but saw no one. He shrugged it off entering the car. Still he could still feel someone watching him secretly. He made to ignite the engine but that’s when he saw her from the rear mirror. Looking at him. His mouth drops as his hands began to shake on the steering wheel. She started leaving and Rowan immediately got out of the car running after her.
“Wait…wait!!” He held her back but she got hold of his hand fli-pping him over with it. He fell on the floor with a thud.
“Ahh!” He groans on the floor trying to stand up. She gave him a glare but leaving him while he stood also going after her.
“Please wait…” He held her hand again and she made to twist it but Rowan was fast enough to grab her before she could. He got hold of her hand twirling her. Her back slammed against his chest as he held her hands tightly across her chest. Both breathes heavily as they stayed like that.
“It’s been a while…Vee” He mutters behind her.

“Young man…” Penny mutters as she opens the door slowly sticking her head in. Jason who was on the bed pretended not to hear her and she made her way in fully.
“Young man…are you sleeping? It’s still early…” She said getting on the bed with him. She made to touch him but Jason was fast to held her hand pinning it down on the bed.
“What are you doing?” He mumbles staring directly at her.
“Are you angry at me?” She mutters back. Jason smirks.
“Let’s give each other some space can we?” He stood away from her leaving the room while Penny quickly follows suit.
“I’m sorry…” She pouted linking hands with him as he descends the stairs.
“I don’t wanna be apart from you…I don’t want space either. I just wanna stick with you”
“I don’t want to”
“Young man…”
Jason stopped and faces her.
“Give me some space will you?” He removes her hand heading to the fridge.
He took an apple taking a bite from it. Penny double crossed him.
“Move” He nudges her away leaving.
“JASON!” She yelled suddenly making him halt in his tracks. He looks back at her and she marched forward to him.
“You…” He trails off while she stood in front of him.
Jason stared at her with awe look on waiting for what she’s gonna do next but Penny stepped closer and wrapped her arms around him.
“I’m sorry Young man…I was wrong” She apologize slowly on his chest. Jason sighs and pulled her away.
“Why do you want space?” He asked slowly.
“Because I wanted you to miss me” She replied slowly with her head down.
“You’re such a dummy ain’t you?” He fli-ckers her forehead while she rubs it pouting.
“Young man can I ask you a question?”
“What?”
“a-ssuming…a-ssuming I’m drowning…will you save me?” She asked while he scrunched his face.
“No” He replied simply.
“But…but why?”
“Simply because…I can’t swim” He replied while she heaves a sigh of relief.
“But young man…I thought you could do everything”
“Hey…no man is perfect”
“Then…what about…what if someone is trying to take me away. What will you do?”
“What do you mean? Didn’t you said you have no one except me? Why? You wanna leave? Is that it?”
“No! No…absolutely not Young man”
Jason eyed her suspiciously before taking another bite from his apple.
“Then Young man…what’s your biggest wish?”
“Why? You gonna grant it for me?” He asked and she nodded.
“Just tell me whatever it may be…I’m ready to do it all for you”
“Anything?”
“Um…anything” she confirmed and Jason steps closer to her.
“Can you revive the dead?” He asked while Penny uhhed.
“Uh?”
“My father…he has been someone I wasn’t given the privilege to spend much time with before he left. I’ve always been so saddened especially whenever I saw others with theirs. My father was taken away from me at such a tender age that I couldn’t do anything I wanted with him. I couldn’t tell him how much I love him or show him either. So…can you bring me back to me? Even if it’s just for a day?” He said seriously staring directly at her.
Penny blinks her eyes repeatedly staring back at him.
“I’m…sorry Young man” She said looking down her fingers. Jason keeps staring at her for a while before he bursts out laughing. Penny snapped her head up to him.
“You should see your face right now” He teased while she just stares.
“Young man…”
Jason sighs and hold both her shoulders.
“Is something wrong Penny, why are you doing all these? ” He quizzed.
“How can I make you love me Jason?” She asked instead. He raised a brow at her.
“I’m not good at anything nor can I make your greatest wish come true…how would you love me when there’s nothing I can do for you” She said looking up to him.
“You don’t need to try so hard…love comes naturally. You can’t force it”
“But I need to make you love me as soon as possible”
“Why? Why do you need me to love you so much?”
“Because…because…” She looks away.
“That’s the only way I could live” She said while Jason knitted his brows.
“What?” He asked but Penny only removes his hand leaving him. She went to the living room and took a seat on the couch. Jason follows suit.
“What do you mean by that?” He asked sitting beside her.
“Young man…don’t mind me. I was just spouting nonsense” She faked a smile standing up to leave but Jason pulled her back. She landed on his laps. She gasp looking at him with her hands on his chest. After staring for a while she made to stand up but he wouldn’t let her.
“I feel like…there’s so much about you that I don’t know. I feel like you have some things you’re not telling me. I feel like keeping you with me is not right…I feel like…somehow you’re someone who shouldn’t being with me but somehow weirdo…I feel comfortable around you. I don’t mind you staying here with me also and I won’t lie…I’ve grown on you. You are strange and weird in many ways but…strangely, I feel cool with that. You remember what I told you the other night…you asked me right? If I could love you…I don’t know why you’re so bend on me loving you and I don’t know why…your existence depends on that but…like I told you the other night Penny…if it’s other girls I certainly wouldn’t do it but…for you I think…I would really love to give it a try. I would love to love you also” He said with his eyes glued to hers.
“Do you mean that?” She asked slowly and carefully.
“I_”
“You’re not just saying that because it’s what you need to do to make yourself feel better?” She interrupted.
“What do you mean?” He frowns.
“I don’t want you to love me just because you feel there’s a need to or because…you have to do that since it’s the only way…to forget the one you really loves”
“Pen_”
“I don’t wanna be a rebound Jason. I want you to love me for who I am…not just because…you have to.”
“I..”
“Im sorry Jason but if that’s the case then…I don’t want your love. If you can’t love me for me then…just let me be. I’ll do what I can to make you see me and if I can’t still have your heart…then we can just forget about it. I’ll leave your life…and you won’t have to worry about me pestering you all the time. I’ll go back to when I haven’t met you. I’ll return your original life back to you…a life without me…I’ll leave…I promise Jason” she said wistfully standing up now.
“Good night Young man…I’m tired tonight so I’ll just go to bed first” She gave him a small smile before going upstairs.
Jason sighs and bowed his head palming his face.
“F**k” He mutters.
