???? Chapter Fifty-Four ????

~The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know~

????PAULO????

“Wait, Heather told you guys those things?”

“Yeah.” Liam answered. “At first, we were suspecting her but turned out she knew nothing about the whole situation.”

“This isn’t right.” Paulo said in a whisper, staring down at his phone.

“What happened? What did you find out?” Kat asked, sitting down beside Paulo and handing him a can of beer.

“Thanks.” He collected the beer but didn’t drink from it. “They are twins.”

“Who?”

“Naomi and Nelly.” He replied, playing with the can of beer.

“Wait… isn’t Naomi Ace’s mother?” Kat asked.

Paulo nodded his head. “Yup.”

“But why didn’t he tell us about her all this while?” She questioned.

“He lost his memory, remember?” Liam stated, rolling his eyes at her.

Paulo shook his head quietly. “He didn’t forget about her…he only forgot that they were two.” He sighed, dropping the can of beer on the table along with his phone. “They are very alike…staring at Naomi is the same thing as staring at Nelly.”

Kat stood up from the chair and went closer to the board and moved Naomi’s photo to the blank space of the unknown. “That means we have been looking at the murderer all this while but didn’t know it.”

“They are two different people, Kat.” Liam reasoned out.

“Yes. But with the same face.” She said, going back to seat beside Paulo. “What are we going to do now? Arrest Eva?”

“Question her.” Paulo said, surprising both Kat and Liam.

“Why do we need to question her again?” Liam asked.

“Do you think she will tell us anything of we ask her any question? Of course she will deny it and probably run away so she won’t get caught. That girl is a bit-ch and a freaking psycho.” Kat said in annoyance.

“You can’t judge, Kathy.” Paulo said.

“Heather said…” She began but Paulo cut her off.

“Heather was also part of our suspect list, remember?” He turned to look at Kat. “You suspected her, didn’t you?”

“Yes?”

“Why did you?” Paulo asked.

She shrugged, thinking for an answer. “Because she looked suspicious?”

“What was so suspicious about her?” He asked again.

“Everything. Especially the necklace part.” She said.

“If she really told you everything…why didn’t she tell you about the necklace? Why didn’t she give you a good reason why she was wearing that necklace her ex boyfriend bought for his girlfriend, her colleague?” Kat wasn’t able to answer. She just opened her mouth but no words left it. “Eva told me about that night…she said she wasn’t asleep when the gunshot went off. She said every maids were asleep aside from one person and when I asked her who it was…she didn’t say anything. She only asked me to protect the princess.”

“And?” Liam pressed on.

Paulo turned his gaze to his direction. “Heather never told me she was also awake at that time.” He collected the necklace from Kat and stared down at it. “When I found this necklace at the crime scene…I didn’t tell anyone about it aside from the princess…so who exactly told Heather that the necklace was found there?”

“It could be the princess?”

Paulo shook his head slowly. “She wouldn’t. She trusts no one right now. Heather doesn’t even know that the necklace is with me!” He twirled the necklace around his finger. “It wasn’t a mistake.” He said in a gasp.

“What are you talking about?”

“The necklace…it wasn’t a mistake…it was on purpose.”

“What do you mean?” Liam asked.

“What are you saying, detective? How can a murderer try to implicate him or herself in a crime?”

“Exactly! Princess told me that some cops came to check the crime scene before me and didn’t find any necklace but how come did I go there and find it?”

“Wait, you think…”

“The necklace was planted there just when I arrived. Nelly accomplice wasn’t trying to implicate him or herself but rather wanted to implicate someone else.”

“Does that mean the spy wanted to implicate Eva?” Liam asked.

“Maybe.”

“But…the only person who isn’t in good terms with Eva is…” Kat began.

????NAOMI????

“If he did love me…he wouldn’t have fallen for your trap!” Nelly said angrily, smashing the glas-scup against the wall.

“It wasn’t his fault, Nelly! It was all my fault. I deceived him. I pretended to be you.” Naomi explained, crying.

Nelly shakes her head in disbelief. “You had everything. Mom loved you. The whole students in school notice you…I was just your shadow…I was just a nobody….the girl who looks so much like Naomi…do you know how many times I tried to hate you? Do you know how angry I was?” She sniffed, trying her best not to shed any tears. “Mom supported you. She believed you…and honestly, if we didn’t look alike, I would have said I was adopted.”

“Dad loved you.”

“But he died!” She yelled. “Nanny Ann loved me but what happened, mom fired her just because you asked her to.” She was breathing heavily now. “And Stephen… you took him away.”

“I was jealous.” Naomi said.

“You’ve said that before but I know very well that’s a big lie! What was there to be jealous of me about? You had everything that I couldn’t have.”

Naomi shook her head in disagreement. “I was the shadow, Nelly. I was the nobody. Yes, I was the most populated one in school and that’s because I forced it. I wanted the attention. I wanted the love. I wanted to be like you.”

Nelly narrowed her eyes in confusion. “Like me?”

“You had the attention I’ve always wanted even without trying! Everyone wants to be your friend. Mom and dad wants to be with a daughter as smart as you. When mom always asked you to be like me…she also told me to be more like you, Nelly.”

“What?”

“She wasn’t just satisfied with the kids she had. She wasn’t satisfied with you…and she wasn’t satisfied with me.” She gulped hard, sighing. “But yet, she chose you over me.”

Nelly clenched her fist tightly, taking a step away from Naomi. “Mom hate me. She will never choose me over you.”

“I thought so as well. But I was wrong. Mom was just a selfish bit-ch .”

“Are you saying all these just to make me release you, huh?”

Naomi shook her head no, smiling. “No. I’m saying all this…because I want to ask for your forgiveness.”

“What?”

“I’m sorry for everything. I’m sorry for seducing Stephen into sleeping with me. I’m sorry for making your life miserable. I’m sorry for ever coming into this world as you twin sister. I’m just sorry for everything.” She paused. “But please you have to stop. You have to turn yourself up to the police. You have to make things right.”

“I can’t.” Nelly said after a long silence, shaking her head in disapproval.

“Nelly, please… I’m sure it won’t be very serious if you turn yourself up. Besides you never killed Stephen.”

“I didn’t but that didn’t change the fact that I wanted to kill you.” She spat in annoyance.

Naomi nods her head. “I get it. And honestly I don’t blame you for it but…you can’t keep doing this. You can’t hurt those innocent kids just because of my sins. I was the one who hurt you so I should be the one to pain for it not them.”

Nelly let out a de-ep breath, running her fingers throu-ghher hair. “It’s too late, baby sis. It’s too late to admit your wrong. I’ve come too far to stop. And also, this isn’t just about me anymore…”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m not in this alone, baby sis. My pack is increasing each pa-ssing day and like I’ve told you… I’m very greedy now. I don’t just want Ace’s inheritance but I also want to rule as a queen.” She lowered herself to Naomi’s level. “Besides old Naomi will act this way, wouldn’t she?” She smirked.

????ACE????

“Why didn’t you tell me everything, dad? Why didn’t you tell me about Nelly…? Why did you leave me in dark?” He asked, staring straight at the tombstone containing his dad’s body. “It must have been ha-rd for you…the guilt…the pain..the heartache… everything.” He sighed, running his fingers throu-ghhis hair. “I caused everything, didn’t I? I came into the world throu-ghthe womb of that bit-ch ! I hate her. I hate her so much. I don’t even know who I should hate more between those two bit-ch es?” He paused, grabbing the bottle of whiskey and taking a large gulp from it.

He promised.

He promised her that he wouldn’t drink again.

Okay, maybe he never promised her but she begged him not to drink again.

But how could he not drink in a situation like this?

His heart was heavy…. Or no, it was broken. Broken beyond repairs.

He caused his father…everyone pain.

If only Naomi didn’t get pregnant, maybe his poor father and her wouldn’t have ended up.

Nelly wouldn’t have become a murderer.

And Belle wouldn’t have lost her family.

It was all his fault…he was the cursed one.

The bad luck.

He took another large gulp of whiskey and ran his fingers over his father’s written name. A tear rolled down to his face.

“I’m sorry.” He said in a whisper, crying. “I’m sorry for ever coming into his world, dad.” He kept saying, as he drank from the alcoholic bottle.

His phone beeped, signifying that he has a new text.

He pulled out his phone, swipe it open and stare down at the text _the text was from Belle_

BELLE: Where are you, A?:-)

Ace clenched his phone tightly as soon as he read the text.

It was all his fault.

She should never have met a guy like him.

She should never have been punished by the heavens by meeting a cursed guy like himself.

She deserve something much better…A better friend who won’t cause her pain or tragedy.

He wasn’t that guy.

ACE: I’m busy:-) He typed and sent the text to her then turned off his phone.

He shouldn’t get involve with her.

Yes, he will protect her until those murderers are caught but that doesn’t mean he have to be very close to her before he can protect her.

She has suffered a lot because of him.

????PAULO????

“You aren’t coming with us?” Liam asked.

“Why?” Kat added.

“I need to meet with someone. It’s very important. You guys should just go ahead and question Eva.” He said.

“Okay. But um, do you think the princess will be save?” Kat asked.

“As long as she doesn’t remember anything then I think she will be save…for now.” He answered, taking out his car keys.

“But I think you said she remembered something.” Liam pointed out.

“Not everything. And besides no one knows about that aside from me, her, Ave and you guys.”

“Speaking of Ace… what’s going on with him?”

Paulo sighed. “With all that happened today, I guess he’s with his father, drinking his soul away.”

“He must be very broken.” Kat said in a whisper.

“Who wouldn’t be? I mean, after coming to the realization that your aunt is the murderer.., of course you will be broken.”

“You are right.” Kat agreed, with a nod of the head.

“I should get going now.” Paulo said, walking towards his car, he opened the door and was going to enter but didn’t. He turned around to Kat and Liam, they were staring right back at him. “Be careful, guys.”

“Detective, what are you doing here?” Hannah asked in surprise as soon as she opened the door.

“Hope you don’t mind?” He asked.

She shook her head, stepping aside for him to come in. “Please come in.”

“Thank you.” He said calmly, walking in.

Hannah shut the door close behind them and walked after Paulo from behind.

They arrived at the sitting room. “Would you like something to drink?”

“I’m fine.” He said with a smile.

“Okay? Seat.” She offered, sitting down as well.

“Thanks.” He stated, sitting down.

“Is everything okay, detective? Why are you here? Or did you forget something by chance?”

“No. But I’m here for something.”

“What?” She asked.

He took out his phone and scrolled throu-ghhis photo’s album, after a while he settled on the particular photo he has been looking for.

He was confuse.

Why was it Eva?

No,

The question here should be…How was it Eva?

If it was really Eva…how come was her necklace found in the crime scene?

Or did she really wanted to implicate herself?

Or rather implicate Heather since she was the one who was found wearing the necklace and not her.

But does that even make any sense?

He showed the photo to Hannah. “Are you sure it was her?” He asked.

Hannah stare down at the picture, squirting her eyes a little. “I never said it was her.”

“Wait, what?”

“This wasn’t the photo I chose, detective. this isn’t the girl.”

Paulo quickly swiped the photo to another one and showed it to Hannah. “Is this…”

“Yes!” She quickly answered. “She is the one.”

Paulo stared down at the photo. “Oh, no.”

????BALLERINA????

ACE: I’m busy:-)

She sighed, dropping her phone beside her and leaning herself against the cold wall.

She hug-ged her knees against her chest and rested her chin on it(Knees).

She stared at the portrait of herself in her ballerina’s dress against the wall. A smile crept its way to her face.

What happened to you?” She asked the picture of herself. “How did things turn out this way?” She run her we-t tongue over her dried li-ps, moistening it. “Why does your heart ache so much over that single text? Are you afraid of losing him? He was never yours in the first place, remember? He was just a friend who liked you for your dance moves. A guy who reminded you so much of yourself.” She let out a de-ep breath, leaning her head against the wall and shutting her eyes close.

She wanted to see him.

She miss him.

Was she crazy? Was it a normal thing to miss a friend?

And why does his reply hurt her so much?

He should have said something else…he should have told her that he was coming, even though it was a lie.

Maybe it would have been more preferable to be expecting him, thinking he was already on his way than to know that he isn’t coming at all.

Honestly…she didn’t just wanted to see his face only, she wanted to tell him everything that she remembered.

She really wants to talk to a friend. Just anybody.

Someone who will understand her… someone who will a-ssure her that all would be fine.

She got up to her feet, picked up her phone and walked out of the room.

She walked towards the huge photo of her mom, dad, aunt and herself.

“Please guys, help me… I’ve regained my memories but I still don’t know who the murderer is. Yes, someone shot Mr Reyes but it was neither of them…but rather someone else.” She stared directly at her aunt’s face. “You know who that person was, right? Is the person’s face in the footage you want me to find? Hmm?” She sniffed, wiping off her tears. “Help me… please.”

Silence!

Silence!

Silence!

“You’ve regained your memories?” A voice asked from behind, interrupting Ballerina’s thought.
