???? Chapter Fifty-Two ????

~Memories are what make us who we are~

????NARRATOR????

“What’s going on here?” Margaret asked, walking in on her children fighting.

“She started it!” One of them said immediately, feigning hurt.

“Stop lying! You started it first!” The other one said, crying as well.

Margaret stared at the both of them for a while before shaking her head, letting out a de-ep sigh. “Can you both just keep quiet? What’s wrong with the both of you, huh? How can you both be fighting each other like this? You are twins for Christ sake and should be each other’s backbone.”

“I’m sorry mommy.” The quiet twin apologize, bowing her head.

“Can you stop apologizing!?” Margaret yelled in annoyance, glaring at her like she did something wrong.

“Mother…” The child called out, surprised at her mother’s outburst.

“Why do you keep apologizing over every little thing? And who taught you how to thank people whenever they do something they are meant to do? Is it your father?” The child nodded her head. “Then this is me teaching you now…” She lowered herself to the child’s level. “Stop apologizing for every little thing and stop appreciating people that you pay for their service. You are the boss and you should act like one. Be less of yourself and be more like your sister.” She turned to the other twins. “She reminds me so much of myself but you,” She looks back at her. “Sometimes you make me regret why exactly I gave birth to two kids.” With that said, she walked away.

“You heard mom. Be more like me although it will be very difficult for you.”

“Mom, what’s going on?”

Margaret sighed, running her fingers throu-ghher hair and taking a gulp of her red wine. “Your father isn’t picking up his phone. I’m worried.” She said.

“You don’t have to be, mother. Maybe he’s busy or something.” She said. “You are drinking…again.”

Margaret rolled her eyes. “It’s just red wine not tequila.” She pointed out. “And besides I’m only taking it just to calm my nerves and not to get drunk.”

“Will red wine help calm your nerves?”

Margaret smiled, nodding her head. “Trust me, it does.” She raised a questioning brow at her. “Where is your sister?”

“She’s in her room…busy. I guess.”

“It’s been ten years now and you both are still not close. I wonder why.”

“She just doesn’t like me, mother. I’ve been trying my best to make things work between us but she just… doesn’t like me.”

“She’s your twin…she doesn’t hate you, dear.” She took another gulp from the cup and turned to look out of the window. “Make it work between both of you. Even if she’s pulling away still do everything within your ability to make her love you.”

“What if I can’t do it?”

“Then it becomes your problem.” Margaret answered with a shrug of the shoulder.

It been a month since they lost their father.

It was heartbreaking.

They all felt broken after his death.

She was wrong to think that their father was busy that day when he wasn’t picking up their mother’s phone.

He was at the hospital and no one cared to contact them.

She miss him.

Not being able to see him anymore hurts like crap.

Will she ever be able to cope without her father?

The only one who seem to understand her in the house.

The only one who sees her for who she really is.

She would be lying if she said she was the one who is mostly broken… because her mother? She’s complete shit.

She drinks more now and this time around it wasn’t to calm her nerves but to rather get drunk!

And her sister?

She hardly comes home. She was either out with her friends, having fun and coming back home drunk!

She was broken but always do her best to hide the pain.

She was a good actress… by the way.

But she on the other hand, have decided move on.

She have decided to do her best in school and graduate with good degrees, it was better than grieving over something that can never repair.

Everyone in the family can’t be broken… one of them have to stand upright and stay strong for the family.

She wants to be that one person.

Her sister walked into the room, smoking her brains away.

“Can I have a word with you, twinnie?” She asked, dropping the book she was reading by her side.

“What?” Her twin sister asked, frowning at her.

“Why are you behaving this way?” She asked, coming up to her feet.

“Excuse me?”

“You can’t keep acting this way. You can’t keep drinking, sleeping around like a piece of whore and doing things that definitely won’t benefit you! How do you think that feels right now with your stupid behavior? Do you know how broken he is right now?”

“Are you done?” She asked, smirking. “Alright then…my turn.” She stepped closer towards her. “You have no fu-cking right to say shit to my face. How I live my life, what I do with my life has no fu-cking thing to do with you, bit-ch . If you want to spend your life reading books, getting good grades in school then be my guest! But trust me, you will always be my shadow…no one knows about you, no one cares about you even those teachers you are trying so ha-rd to impress doesn’t even your damn name or always mistake you for me, although i see no reason why they should that because obviously we may look alike but our characters is way different…. you are just a piece of trash, a loser, even people in school knows that. If you think I’m lying,” She smiled, puffing out a smoke of cigarette. “Then put yourself to a test.” She turned to leave but suddenly stopped and turned back to her sister who was already in tears. “Just so you know, those group of needs who push themselves on you only so that because they want to be my friend. But hey, I want you to send this message to them… I don’t mingle with losers…” She started laughing while walking away.

She was right.

She will always be her shadow.

Who was she kidding? She was nothing compared to her sister. They might look alike but that doesn’t guarantee anything. Even her crush, Stephen Reyes doesn’t even know about her existence! Everyone in school knows about her sister and want to be her friend.

They are the same thing for Christ sake! So why does one have to be the other ones shadow?

Why does one have to be in the spotlight, preventing the other one from sharing the spotlight with her?

Why does life have to be so unfair?

The bell rings, signifying the end of cla-ss.

The quiet twin stood up to her feet, grabbing her books and leaving the clas-sroom.

She wore her gla-sses, going to the direction of her locker when she bumped into someone.

She was going to ki-ss the ground but was immediately caught by the stranger.

She slowly stared up at the person holding her right now….it was him. Her crush. Stephen fu-cking Reyes.

“Are you okay?” He asked, bringing her up to her feet.

She smiled. “Yeah. I think so. Thanks.” She said, picking up her books.

“I’m very sorry. I wasn’t looking.” He said, helping her to pick up her books.

“You don’t have to apologize. I mean, I wasn’t also looking.” She said, collecting the books he had picked up for her.

“I’m Stephen by the way.” He introduced, smiling. “And you must be…

????NELLY????

She was humming one of her favorite songs _Power by little mix_

She grabbed a glas-sof red wine and came to sit in front of Naomi, her twin sister.

Naomi was tied up in front of her. She was glaring ha-rd at her sister as well.

“Why the glare, baby sis?” Nelly questioned, smirking.

“Why are you keeping me here, you bit-ch ?” Naomi asked, angrily. “Take me out of this fu-cking place!”

“Hey, calm down. You will lose strength if you keep screaming this way.” She said, sipping the red wine, slowly. “And tell me, why should I take you out of here?”

“Why are you doing this? Why are you making everything difficult, huh?” Naomi asked, glaring ha-rd at Nelly.

“Am I? I mean, I’m only doing what’s right here, baby sis.”

“I told you to stop calling me that!”

“Why not? We are twins, aren’t we?”

“Unfortunately!” Naomi spat in disgust.

“Ouch, that burns.” She started laughing. “Want to have some?” She nodded at the red wine. “You’ve always loved it.”

“I hate you.”

“Uh-huh. You can’t hate me now, baby sis. I haven’t started anything yet and you are already hating me? Come on now, baby sis. You can do better than this.”

“Do not hurt anyone of them.”

“Not yet…trust me.”

“And why should I do that? Give me one reason why I should trust you!”

“Let me see…” She pretends to be thinking. “Because I haven’t hurt him yet?”

“You…”

“Calm down, baby sis. As much as i want to take him out… I can’t. The goodness is still in me.” She smiled.

“Goodness, my foot.”

Nelly started laughing. “Oh my God, you sound crazy right now. What can I say, memories is what make us who we are, baby sis.”

Someone walked in, coming towards Nelly.

“Ma’am.” She called out.

“It’s time.” She said, smirking at Naomi.

????NARRATOR????

“You must be Lucky Halls.” Kat said, approaching the young man alongside Liam.

He stared up at her, raising a questioning brow at her. “How…do you know my name?”

She took out her card, waving it in front of him. “I’m detective Kat. And this is my partner…Liam.” She introduced.

“Detectives…again. What is it this time around?” Lucky asked, stuffing his hands into his pan-ts pocket.

“We are here to have a word with you about your girlfriend…hope you don’t mind?” Liam asked.

“Not really. But what is it this time around? What did Eva do?”

“She didn’t so anything…at least we don’t have any proof for now but we have some questions for you, regarding these necklaces.” Kat said, taking out the necklaces and showing it to Lucky.

“A detective has brou-ght this necklace to me… why are you guys asking questions about it? Is something wrong?”

“Not really,” Liam said. “But can you please tell us when you got the necklace for Eva?”

He thought for a while before saying. “A years ago, I guess.”

“Yes. I got it for her as a birthday gift.” He replied.

“Do you know anything about Heather, her colleague?” Kat asked.

He didn’t say anything.

“You have to speak to us, Mr Lucky.” Liam said.

“I don’t.” Lucky said, looking away.

“It doesn’t look like it, Mt Lucky. You know this girl, it’s obvious but why are you lying?”

“I’m not. I just…”

“Don’t want to talk about her?” He didn’t say anything. “That means you do know her.” Kat stated. “Who was she to you?” He stayed quiet. “You have to talk, Mr Lucky. You have to help us here, please.” She pleaded.

“Fine. Heather and I once dated…but everything changed the day I set eyes on Eva.” He admitted.

“Wait, does this mean you broke up with Heather for Eva?” Kat asked.

“I’ve always wanted to break up with Heather. That girl is so weird and annoying and bossy! All she cares about is herself! I don’t see why the princess is keeping her by her side.” He said.

“How did Heather take the break up?” Liam asked.

He shrugged. “Not likely.”

“Did she know you and Eva are together?”

“Yeah. She confronted me one day and promised to make me pay for hurting her with the way I did.”

“She threatened you?”

“It was an empty threat.”

“Why didn’t you report her to the police?”

“Like I’ve said, it was an empty threat.” He said, folding his arms over his chest. “And besides, she later came around saying she have decided to drop everything and move on from me.”

“When did she tell you that?”

“A month ago?” He stated, sounding unsure.

Both Kat and Liam exchanged a look before turning back to Lucky. “Alright. Thanks for your cooperation, Mr Lucky. Hope you won’t mind if we come back to ask more questions?”

He shrugged. “It’s fine.”

Kat and Liam walked back to their car and got in.

Liam started the car and drove out of the compound.

“What do you think, Kat?” He asked.

“She didn’t drop it. Heather lied to him.” She said. “If Eva and Lucky have been dating for over a year now, why then did Heather suddenly decided to move on with her life just a month ago? And why was she wearing Eva’s necklace?”

“You are right. They are meant to be enemies not friends so why?” Liam concurred.

“Maybe she wanted them to believe she had dropped the issue. Maybe it has been her plan all along.”

“Wait, you think Heather is the suspect?”

“I can’t say for now but I think we should talk to her.” She said.

Liam smiled. “I didn’t know you were this smart. Honestly, you look more attractive now.”

Kat blus-hed. “I’m always attractive, stupid.” She sighed. “I guess working with Detective Paulo is taking a good effect on us.”

“You are right.”

????PAULO????

“Twin sister?” Paulo questioned in surprise.

“Yes.” Ann turned to look at Ace. “You didn’t know?”

“Naomi never told me that.” He said.

“Naomi. Oh, she’s your mother.” She sighed. “Wait, who is your father?”

“Mr Reyes.” Ace answered.

“Mr Stephen Reyes?”

“You know him.”

“Who will ever forget that man? Everyone knew that the twins were never on good terms, although one of them tried so ha-rd to make things work between them but no, the other one refused. She was always drinking, smoking, constituting a nuisance, acting like a boss…she was a devil. But I wouldn’t blame her…like the saying goes, every child will have to take out something from their parents…she took her nasty behavior from her mother.” Ann paused. “But the other quiet one was just too nice. She was too nice that it became a problem. She wanted things to work out for her family. She wanted to be the one to raise the family up after the death of their father. She was too nice for her own good.

But everything changed the day Stephen Reyes came into the girls life.

I wouldn’t blame him though, the girls were too identical to even spot out a different but good news, their characters was a good differentiation.

Stephen Reyes was the first guy ever to see the nice one for who she is and not because she looked like her sister. They hung around, had fun, enjoyed life… she became happy. I was glad. She was finally living life and not life living her. She would come to me and tell me how her day went with Stephen. She would tell me how she dreamt of him being her husband. She just wanted a good life and a good home and she wished the same for her sister but what she forgot to ask herself was…does her sister wish the same for her?

Later on she came to the realization that her sister have going behind her back, acting to be her just to be with Stephen. Like I’ve said, I wouldn’t blame him for not being able to differentiate between the both of them. You know, they might have the different characters but they are still very good in playing the other ones character. They did that trick on me, trust me. To cut the long story short, she got pregnant for him.”

“The nice one?”

“Nope. The other one. The nice one felt so betrayed and heartbroken and instead of their mother to play the motherly card… she just supported the other one and asked the other one to move on from Stephen and live more like her sister so she will be able to get another like Stephen. It was so touching and heartbreaking. I could also feel her pain. She changed. She became a total different person. She vow to be more like her sister and use it against her. I tried to talk things out with her but nothing I said changed her mind. She had already made up her mind.” She let out a de-ep breath, sniffling.

“The nice one… what’s her name?” Ace asked.

#PAST.

????NARRATOR????

“I’m Stephen, by the way.” He introduced, smiling. “And you must be…Nelly?” He wasn’t so sure.

She was a bit taken aback. “You…you know my name?”

“You must be Nelly then. Hey, why wouldn’t I? I’ve always been watching you.”

“Why? Because you want to be friends with my twin sister?” She asked, walking away in annoyance.

“What? No.” He said, following her from behind. “I don’t even know your twin sister’s name.”

“Then how did you know my name?” She asked, stopping to look at him.

“Um…I asked around?”

“Are you kidding me right now?”

“Stupid, right?”

She smiled. “I second the motion.” She paused. “but why did you asked for my name around?”

“Because…I want to be your friend?”

“Wait, is the almighty Stephen Reyes asking a nobody like me to be his friend?”

“Friends for now. Yeah. And hey, I’m not almighty… I’m just too popular.”

“Good for you. But, how were you able to differentiate me?”

He smiled. “Your gla-sses.”

“I rarely wear it.”

“But you still do. And your second, I’ve never seen her wear gla-sses.”

“Oh, you still know about her.” She reasoned out, hugging her books against her chest.

“What can I do? I mean, I see someone that looks so much like the girl I’m attracted to.”

“The girl you are attracted to?”

“You.”

#Present.

????PAULO????

“I can’t believe the nice one was Nelly while your mother was the bit-ch . Sorry to say, man.”

“But reverse was the case when they became adult. Nelly became more like Naomi while Naomi became more like Nelly.”

“And Nelly is the killer. The fu-cking murderer who killed my father but I don’t know what to think now, Paulo…Naomi did wrong to her. She stole her man. She made her feel stupid. I…i can’t believe that woman can be such a person.”

“Hmm. Wait…we were wrong.”

“What?” Paulo asked, confused.

“You knew about her…you didn’t forget her…”

“Who?”

“Nelly. You didn’t forget about her. She was still your head but you only mistook the face and maybe that’s why Ballerina remembered something when she saw Naomi.”

“Speaking of Ballerina…have you spoken to her since today?” Ace asked.

“Shouldn’t I be the one to ask you that?” He asked.

Ace phone started ringing, filling the car. He drew out the phone from his pocket and answered the call. “Hello?”

“Sir…”

“Hannah?”

Her husky voice filled the other line. “Can we meet, sir?”

“Are you crazy? You disappeared from the office and suddenly you called just to ask me that? Are you serious right now?”

“I’m sorry for leaving like that, sir. But I didn’t leave because I wanted to. Something happened.”

“What?”

“I can’t tell you from the phone, sir. We need to see. And it’s something relating to Mr Reyes death.”
