???? Chapter Forty-Four ????

~The witness~

????UNKNOWN????

“I asked you not to send that note to him, didn’t I?”

“But you said_”

“Forget about what I said!” She snapped. “This will ruin my plans and effort.” She start to panic. “If they get to read the note, they will see the similarities with that of the princess’s!”

“But will that be a problem?”

“Did you just ask me that?”

“I…”

“Of course there will be a problem! What do you expect them to think if they see two similar notes with the same handwriting, huh?”

“I… what…”

“THEY WILL KNOW IT’S THE SAME PERSON THAT’S INVOLVED IN THE TWO CASES!” she yelled at the top of her voice. “They are going to find out the truth. They will find the missing girl! The only witness. We can’t let that happen.”

“What should we do now?”

“Where is your second?”

“She went to the hospital to collect the princess’s medical report.”

“She is doing a great job but you? You only just know how to ruin everything!”

“I’m sorry.”

“Sorry won’t amend anything! It will only just leave things the way they are.”

“What do you want me to do, ma’am? I promise to do anything.”

“Now that’s the spirit.” She smirked. “Your second will take care of the note but as for you… I have a very important mission for you, do not mess it up.”

“I promise.”

She smirked, folding her arms over her chest. “It’s time we go to her. I’m talking about the girl.”

????ACE????

“What the hell is this?” Ace asked no one in particular. After all he was the only one in the office.

He dropped the note on the table and picked up his phone. His dialled Paulo’s number and brou-ght the phone to his ear.

The line rung for sometime but was finally answered.

“Hey man.”

“Where are you, Paulo?”

“On my way home, what’s up?”

“I need to show you something. It’s very urgent.” He said.

“What is it?” Paulo asked, worriedly.

“I got a note.”

????BALLERINA????

“My princess.” Eva rushed to her, bowing her head in respect. “You are back.”

*Eva is the owner of the necklace not Heather….*

Ballerina doesn’t even know what to say or do.

She was confuse.

Very confuse.

One minute, it was Heather that owns the necklace and the next minute, it’s Eva.

How is that even possible?

In fact, what’s really going on?

Why are things just getting so complicated?

If only her aunt had told her one or two things, maybe this case wouldn’t have been this difficult and confusing.

Because de-ep down, she feel like her aunt knows something about the murder.

But what she don’t seem to understand is why she kept it away from her.

She wants the truth.

But how can she find the truth, when she doesn’t know who to trust anymore?

Can she trust Heather, the girl who have been working for her for a very long time or Eva, the maid she never took notice of?

The situation was pretty driving her nut!

Even Paulo, the best detective she has ever met, is left in total confusion!

It seems like whenever they take a step forward, the murderer takes two step ahead.

They are always going back instead of going forward!

It’s very annoying and frustrating.

“Yeah. Um,” She clears her throat. She doesn’t want to act so obvious or scared in front of Eva. Who knows, she could be the murderer! “Where is Heather?”

She could see the disgust look on Eva’s face but the maid quickly covered it up with a smile. “I don’t know, my princess. I haven’t seen her around since you left the palace. I thought she was with you.”

“Well, no. She wasn’t.” Ballerina said. “What are you doing out here? You should be with the others?”

“Yeah. I was with the others but came down here to feed Jersey.” She said, smiling.

“What!? You fed Jersey?” Ballerina asked angrily.

Eva was a bit taken aback with her reaction. “Yes? Is there a problem, my princess?”

“What did you feed her? And who asked you to feed her?” She asked, walking towards Jersey personal room. She opened the door to find Jersey eating. She quickly rushed to it and snatched the food away from the dog. Jersey started barking but she paid deaf ears to it.

“My princess, what’s going on?” Eva asked her, following her from behind.

“How dare you feed Jersey? Huh? Did i ask you feed her?”

“No, my princess. But Jersey was very hungry. Heather left the palace without feeding her.” She explained.

“That doesn’t justify anything, Eva. It’s Jersey, my only family, we are talking about here. I can’t afford to lose her also!”

Eva narrowed her eyes at Ballerina, she looked confused but Ballerina was determined to fall for her tricks.

“I don’t understand, my princess. What’s so wrong to feed Jersey?”

“Everything is so wrong with it! Everything! Who knows if you didn’t poison the food!” Before she could stop herself, she has already let out the word.

“What?”

“I… I shouldn’t have said that.” Ballerina cleared her throat, grabbing Jersey leash. “Don’t ever feed Jersey again. No one should aside from Heather and me.” She turned to leave but Eva stopped her by grabbing her wrist.

“Wait!”

Ballerina stared down at the hand Eva was holding her with then slowly looked back up to the maiden. “What’s going on?”

“My princess,” She sighed. “Do you trust Heather that much?”

“Excuse me?”

“I would have understand if you said no one should feed Jersey aside from you. Just you. But adding Heather’s name to the list doesn’t feel right.”

“Excuse me?”

“If you don’t want to trust any of the maids then you should start with Heather.”

“She’s fine, Miss Ballerina.” The vet nurse said, handing Jersey’s leash back to Ballerina.

“Are you sure? I mean, did you check well? There could be food poisoning hiding somewhere in her bod_”

“She’s perfectly fine. Very fine. You don’t have to get so worked up. Besides, her body doesn’t show any sign of illness.”

Ballerina stared down at Jersey, letting out a breath of relief.

Was she overreacting?

Was she taking all this overboard?

What of Eva is not the murderer?

But she’s the owner of the necklace which means she was the one in that room when her aunt died and she was the same person who hit her on the head.

But then again, why was Heather wearing a silver necklace in that photo?

Ballerina tightened her grip around the leash and walked out of the vet hospital after paying up for the treatment.

She let out a de-ep sigh, coming close to a roadside bench, she sat down on it and stared up at the blue sky.

“What do I do? I’m so confuse and scared. I don’t even know who the trust anymore.” She sniffed. “It feels like the enemy I’m running away from is standing right behind me.”

Silence!

Silence!

Silence!

“You are right, princess.”

Ballerina jerked up to her feet, facing the person who just spoke. She came face to face with a girl in a black hoodie.

“Who are you?”

????HANNAH????

“You can’t go in like that!” The intruder was already in before she could even stop her.

Her boss, Ace Reyes had left office for a very important meeting _well, according to him_ so she was actually the only one in the office. Other staffs were at the lower floor busy with one thing or the other.

But what she don’t seem to understand was how this intruder got in here.

“What are you doing?” She gasped, staring at the intruder, who was scattering her boss’s office looking for something she definitely didn’t keep.

“Shut up.” The hoodie girl said throu-ghgritted teeth.

“Stop this madness! How can you come into someone else’s office and start looking throu-ghtheir things? You need to stop or I will call the security.”

The hoodie girl stopped searching and turned to the girl who just threatened her.

She smirked, walking closer to Hannah. “What did you just say?”

“I…I…” Hannah started shaking, she took some steps away from the menacing girl.

“Are you scared?” The girl tilted her head sideways.

“You… who are you?”

“Someone you should never have gotten involve with.” She said, taking off her hoodie.

Hannah raised a questioning brow at the girl, quietly walking towards the door. “Please don’t kill me.” She pleaded.

“What make you think I will kill you?” The girl asked, smirking.

“I…I… please don’t kill me.” She continued begging.

“You should have begged when my hoodie was still on because now… no amount of begging will save you from me.”

Hannah hand came in contact with the door knob. “Think again, bit-ch !” She spat in the lady’s face and took off, running out of the office.

“fu-ck!” The hoodie girl cursed loudly, wiping off the saliva from her face before running after Hannah.

Hannah ran as fast as her legs could take her, but the hoodie was pretty fast-er, she was few miles away from Hannah.

Hannah was already getting to the elevator but before she walked in…. a gunshot was heard.

????PAULO????

“It’s official, I’m confuse.” Kat said, throwing her hands on the air as if in surrender.

“So am I.” Liam concurred. “I mean, where are they knocking?” It was a rhetorical question because clearly no one had an answer to it but Kat still took her time to give him a reply.

“His head?”

Liam rolled his eyes. “Does that even make any sense to you?”

Paulo placed his palm beneath his chin and stared down at the note lying on the table.

Ace had given it to him as soon as he returned home from work.

The note was pretty confusing but yet sounded so familiar.

It seemed like he had read something like that before but can’t just remember where or when.

He called on Liam and Kat for a-ssistant and sadly to say, they still haven’t gotten anywhere in the case at hand.

If anything, they are even more confuse and tired about the whole thing. That includes him as well.

He was tired.

Tired of being two steps behind this notorious murderer.

Tired of searching and not finding.

He was tired of everything.

“But guys,” Kat called for their attentions. “Doesn’t this case look familiar?”

“What do you mean?” Liam asked.

“Knock knock… doesn’t that ring a bell?”

“What are you…” Liam gasped. “The princess’s case!”

“Exactly!” Kat agreed.

Paulo quickly brou-ght out the note Ballerina had given to him and dropped it on the table beside Ace’s note. “The handwriting…” His voice trailed off.

“They are alike.” Both Kat and Liam said in unison, gasping.

“How… how is this possible? Why are the handwriting the same?” Paulo asked himself aloud, staring at the two notes.

“Could it be the same people that wrote it?” Kat questioned.

“That means it is the same murderer? Nah, that’s impossible.” Liam stated.

“This doesn’t make any sense. I mean…” Paulo voice trailed off.

*If nothing is done, the next target will be the princess.*

*The person to be worried about is the girl not the boy.*

*They sent me this note.*

*Wait, you think they are going to send another note?*

*They definitely will. Knock knock can’t be the only message they want to send across. Who knows, the notes could be the clue we need.*

“How are they connected…? What is the connection between Ace and Ballerina?” The ringtone of his phone filled the tensed room. He picked it up and stared at the caller ID, it was an unknown number. He answered the call and bring the phone to his ear. “Hello?”

“This is doctor Charles. Can we meet?”

“Doctor Charles?”

“Yes. I’m… I’m ready to talk.”
