?Chapter Four ?

~In every ugliness, there’s always a beauty de-ep inside…..~

?ACE?

“Get the car ready for the meeting.” He said coldly not even sparing a glance at his secretary. She nods and walked out of the office, slamming the door shut behind her, gently.

Ace put out the docu-ment he was reading, he got up to his feet grabbed his phone and suit jacket before walking out of the office. Honestly he wasn’t really looking out for this meeting. Damn, he was quite exhausted and needs rest at that moment but the thought of leaving work early and going home to his mother kind of irritates him. He never wanted to live und-er the same roof with his mother. After the death of his father, Ace tried moving out of the house but Paulo had talked him out of it telling him that the only better way to finding his father’s killer was by sticking to his mother. She was the only hope they currently have in figuring out what actually happened that night.

Ace wasn’t stupid and he kind of agree with what Paulo said even if it means staying und-er the same roof with that woman he was so unfortunate to have as a mother.

He walks out of the building and headed to the parking lot. His secretary, Hannah and his driver, Sam were already waiting for him when he arrived. Hannah got the back door open for him, he got in and she shut the door close, she opens the pa-ssenger’s seat and got in as well while Sam was already seated at his sp-ot. As soon as Ace and Hannah both settled in the car, Sam started the car and drove off.

They arrived at their destination just in time. Hannah got out if the car immediately and opened the back door for her boss, Ace pulled out of the car and stare walking towards the open door while Hannah followed him from behind holding unto her cli-pboard for recording every event that going to take place in the conference room.

Ace stuffed his hands into his pan-ts pocket, his face were ha-rd rock, his jaw were clenched, his eyes were sharpened and he had no smile on his face _he was always like that_ Everyone were so use to this side of him. And he cared less about what people think or say about him. Why should he even care? It’s not like they und-erstand what he’s going throu-ghor the tragedy they happened in his life. No one knows about his pain and agony. They don’t und-erstand. And they can never und-erstand because they weren’t him. Besides they are living a happy life but him? He was far from happiness.

Hannah quickly opened the door to the conference room, Ace walked in and she followed after him. A man was already seated with his secretary by his side. As soon as he saw Ace walking in, he got up to his feet alongside his secretary. He offered Ace a warm smile to which Ace returned with a glare.

“It’s a plea-sure to meet you, Mr Reyes.” He said, extending out his hand for a handshake to which Ace disregarded. He hates shaking people. In fact hates getting so close to people.

“Likewise Mr Derick.” He said.

Mr Derick smiled, dropping his hand to his side. They both took their seat alongside their secretary.

“Mr Derick, about the contract, do you agree with our company’s clauses? it was agreed in the previous meeting that each of our company will possess 50% of the shares in the project.” He said. Hannah started taking some important notes and so was Mr. Derick secretary taking a note.

“I heard, and I’m quite fine with it. Besides Reyes Enterprise is very reliable and trustworthy. Your father was a great _”

“I would prefer you don’t talk about him and focus on the present.” Ace cuts in, rudely. He hates it when people talk about his late father. No one has any damn right to talk about him. They weren’t worthy.

“Oh. I’m sorry.” Mr. Derick apologies. He has heard a lot of Ace Reyes and he wasn’t a tiny bit surprise of the rude remark and glare Ace was giving him right now. And he also wouldn’t let that make him turn his back on the Reyes Enterprise. He owe the late Reyes and he had promised to guide his son when he taka over the company. And he was doing just that so he won’t let Ace behavior make him turn his back on his promise to the late Mr Reyes.

“So what do you say about it? Are you in?” Ace questioned. He really wants to end his damn meeting and go home, no not because he was hungry or because he needed rest. But to go home to Paulo. They have a lot of things to do concerning the investigation.

“Sure.” Mr. Derick smiled.

“Good. I think that’s all for now then. I will take my leave.” Ace rose up to his feet, Hannah did the same as well.

“Help me say hi to your mother.” Mr. Derick said before Ace could walk out of the room.

“You can say hi to her yourself.” With that, he walked out of the conference room alongside Hannah. “Any plan after this?”

“No sir.” Hannah replied.

“Good.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Ah. You are home.” His mother said just when Ace walked into the house looking so tired and stressed. “Go freshen up while i prepare dinner.” She said to him.

Ace said nothing. He walked towards the bar and grabbed a bottle of tequila and a glas-scup. He poured himself a drink and gulped down the liquid in one shot. He poured himself another drink and chug-ged the liquid again. He took another drink and another and another and another….

“Enough!” His mother was fed up with his wayward lifestyle. He hardly eats but drink and smoke more. Sometimes he would just drink without eating anything and then he goes to bed and sleep like everything was okay. Everything wasn’t okay! She wasn’t okay! She knows he hates her and blames her for every tragedy but hurting himself like this is enough to make her want to die. He had treated her very bad but nothing changes the fact that he was still her son and she still love him. Every day, every night, she try her possible best the remember that night but she can’t remember anything. And she know exactly why…but to tell her son will only make matter worse and that’s why she always kept mute and act natural. It’s better this way than the other way round.

Ace didn’t listen to her as he grabbed the almost finished bottle and poured himself a drink. He gulped down the liquid in one shot. He was about to pour himself another drink when his mother placed a hand over his. He flinched at that contact and pulled away from her like she was some kind of a disease. He glared at her.

“You can’t keep doing this to yourself.” She said in a whisper as tears streamed down her face.

“Why do you act to care?” He questioned coldly, he wasn’t the slightest bit affected by his mother’s tears and pain. If anything he enjoyed seeing her this way.

“You are hurting yourself. And seeing you this way is hurting me as well. You don’t deserve to be in this position. I’m the one who deserve to be hurt and not you.” She said in between sobs.

“Of course. You are the one who deserve to be in this mess! You are the one who need to be hurt! And if hurting myself makes you hurt then it’s fine to hurt myself. ” He said. “Just say the fu-cking thing that happened that night. That’s all I ask of you.” He clenched his fist tightly as he glared at her.

“I…I can’t remember anything, Ace.” She said in a low and husky voice.

Ace shook his head as he took further steps away from her. He grabbed his car key, a bottle of whiskey and walked out of the house not listening to his mother, who kept calling out to him.

He knows he have to be with Paulo right now for the investigation but he was too drunk to even think straight or do anything. All he needed was a little time alone. A time to drown in his misery. He entered his car, started the ignition and drove off. He accelerated the car to the highest speed _It was late already_ He took a gulp from the whiskey throu-ghthe bottle. Yes, he was drunk but he needed more alcohol in his damn system.

He doesn’t even have any destination in mind but that didn’t stop him from driving. As long as he got away from home and from that woman, it was fine to just drive Like a maniac.

He came to a beach, he put off the ignition and got out of the car. He stumbled his way towards the waters that were glowing due to the city light. The view was beautiful and it was nothing compared to his ugly life. He took another gulp of his drink and sunk unto the sandy ground, looking out to the beauty of the waters.

His ch-est felt heavy. His heart were beating in pain. Ace ran his hand throu-ghhis hair as tears streamed down his face. He quickly wiped it off, letting out a de-ep breath.

~FLASHBACK~

*Men don’t cry, son. Do you know why?* His father questioned as he led Ace to the balcony.

*why?* five years old Ace asked, getting very curious.

*Because we have a strong heart.* His father replied with a smile.

*But women do cry, don’t they have a strong heart?*

*They do but men are more like the one with the strongest heart. We are the ones bound to protect women.*

*Does that mean we are going to protect mummy?*

His father chuckles as he slung his arms around his son’s shoulder. *You are very smart.*

~FLASHBACK ENDS~

He couldn’t protect his mother. He was too broken. He couldn’t even protect his father! Ace was still de-ep in thought when he suddenly hears a music playing. He furrowed his brows at the music, yes, he was drunk but imagining things wasn’t something he does when drunk. And besides it was late for any normal person to be out by this time. He slowly turned his head to the direction of where the music was playing from.

He gasped at what he saw next. A girl in a white dress was dancing. Her hair flowed free due to the wind that kept blowing. Her hands were on the air as she pirouette three times and lifted her legs off the ground extending her legs out, she got down perfectly and turned around again. She pulled herself to the ground, still dancing. It was the most beautiful thing Ace have ever seen. Her moves were exceptional. And it looks like one that holds a story. A sad one. She looks broken. Just like him.

(A/N: Imagine this scene in slow motion and imagine a slow music playing or you could play a slow music to go with this scene).

Everything went in slow motion. The wind kept blowing, making her hair flow according to the rhythm of the wind. And it made it also difficult for Ace to take a peep of her face. Even the sky made it more difficult for him _It was late_

Ace thought the view of the waters were beautiful but he was so wrong. Nothing have ever captivated him like this before. She was just so good and watching her like this brou-ght ease to his stormy night. It brou-ght ease to his troubled heart. Was it a mistake coming here? Or was he fated to come here?

She pirouette again. She continued pirouette, even Ace got lost in counting. He dropped the bottle of whiskey in his hand and continued watching her. A dog appeared by her side, he wanted to go over and chase the dog away but the dog started dancing as well. It was so beautiful. Slowly a small smile formed at the side of his li-ps.
