I did try calling Sandra but her number wasn’t connecting so I had to call her house and the person that answered the call told me that she has left the country with her family early this week, I asked when they’ll be coming back and the person said she thinks they’ll never come back again.

I don’t know how to relay this message to Mom without messing things up. She’ll blame me for all that has happened and we might end up having a fuse again. I hate getting into a fight with Mom.

I and Sandra had been together for two years and not once have we had a proper date that doesn’t involve business. It’s as if I’m forcing her to myself cause anytime I ask for alone time with her she’ll come up with one excuse or the other.
The last time we had a normal date, a reporter showed up and ruined it and I later found out that she was the one who tipped the reporter where to find us and ever since then, I’ve stopped trying. My best friend George told me to stop wasting my time on her that she can be my perfect girlfriend on set while I enjoy my life with other women who are willing to give me whatever I want.

“Were you able to call Sandra?” Mom asks me. The three of us are sitting on the dinning about to eat dinner when she popped that question. Dad is already eating since the question has nothing to do with him.

“I could not,” I said not even looking at her face. Okay fine, I don’t like looking at her face whenever she’s angry cause she look like a dragon.

“Okay, we’ll stop at her house before heading to the office. You guys nee-d to get back on set.” Mom said and unwrap her food.

“I don’t think that will be necessary because Sandra has left the country.” I slowly raised my head to see her reaction but I was disappointed as there was none. She unwrap her dish and start eating.

“That girl finally proved how useless she is.” She said so calmly.

“You don’t have to worry Mom, I can model alone, I don’t nee-d a partner.”
Well, that’s true. I don’t nee-d a partner. I can always sell our outfits and un-derwear alone without having to share the stage with one girl that’ll eventually end up in my bed. Maybe it’s time to start thinking about business and not plea-sure.

“Are you just going to keep eating without contributing to this?” She asked Dad who drop his cutleries and look at us.

“The conversation has nothing to do with me so what contribution are you talking about?” He asked her and she sigh.

“We have new designs and we’re suppose to have publish them in the weekly magazines but Ryan’s stage partner decide to leave the country in the middle of a hu-ge call.” I can hear anger in her tone. Dad, you better give a satisfying answer or Mom will blow up thereby ruining my suppose peaceful night.

“It’s really not something you should sweat yourself about Vivain, just as your son has said, let him do solo.” Dad said and I nod my head in agreement but when I and Mom’s eye met, I see that she wasn’t satisfied, I stopped nodding.

“What are you talking about, solo? We are unise-x Br@nd Julius and doing solo is like cutting our cost. I won’t do that.” She said and Dad nod his head as if he un-derstood what she meant by cutting our cost. I too have zero idea on what she meant by that.
“We’re not doing solo.” She added.

“Then do whatever you want, it’s fine by me.” Dad said and she gave him a deadly stare. Oh no, she’s about to burst.

“I think I have a solution to that.” I said and she turn her face to me. I don’t even know if what am going to say will not cause another problem tonight cause all I want to do is avoid her outburst tonight.
“I’ll get a replacement before the week runs out.”

“So you’re saying we’ll be short of a model for a whole week? Are you serious? We’ve been postponing this shot for weeks because of your incompetence and now you want to add a week? You must be joking!” She fired.
“I’m giving you 48hours to get a replacement or you’ll also loose your job.” She added and I and Dad’s eyes met.

“Mom, 48hours is a short notice. Even if I make an urgent call I’ll still nee-d to evaluate the face. Can’t you just reconsider?”

“You should reconsider. Do you want to ruin my business?! You better get to work!” She yell and continue eating. I wanted saying something but Dad interrupted.

“Mom wants to relocate to Texas.” Dad dropped. Another sad story. Did I mention that Mom and Grandma don’t really get along? Like, they’re cat and rat?!
“I don’t have any business with that. It’s not my problem if she decides to leave the world.”
Now, that is how tense their relationship is.

“Do you have an idea that you’re talking about my mother?”

“Your step mother. Look Julius, I don’t want to talk about her.” She said while I’m just picking my rice one after the other.

“She’s coming to live with us.” He said and she drop the spoon on her hand.

“Live with who? Didn’t you tell her that she has no place here?” Mom asked him.

“This is my house and my mother is welcome at any time.”

“No one said she can’t come to visit but why will she want to live here? Isn’t she comfortable wherever she is?”

“I’ve made my decision and that is final.” He said and she hit the table and left the dinning room.

“When is she coming?” I ask Dad and before he could answer me she screamed my name.

The next day which happened to be a Sunday was when Grandma arrived and I and Dad went to pick her from the airport. When she saw us, she was so excited that she emBr@ce us so ti-ghtly.

Grandma Esther is in her early 80’s but trust me she doesn’t look like one cause she’s still slaying. She always talk about keeping her se-xy shape intact no matter what. She use to say that she can’t afford to be a sadist like my Mom. It’s funny anytime I think about it, Mom and Grandma hate each other but Mom is the one who has that angry face but Grandma, she look relaxed and anytime she and Mom are having a fuse, she doesn’t scream or rain curses at Mom.

“It’s nice to finally see you again Mom.” Dad said. We’re now in the car driving home. She’s sitting on the pas-senger seat while I am sitting at the back.

“Me too son. Texas is really good on you guys. I’m proud of what you’ve become.” She said car-essing his cheek. Dad is indeed getting fat.

“How have you been doing Ryan? The last time I saw you was when you were signing off from college.”
That was two years ago when I was graduating. She was the one who wore me the medal because that day Mom and Dad were too busy to attend my graduation so she flew from Spring Valley to Texas just to wear me a medal. She’s such a sweet grandma.

“I’m now working at Vivian Publishing House as a model.” The second I mentioned that she turned her face to me.

“A model? Why a model? You’re supposed to be the head of one department there? What is Vivian thinking to make her son a model in her own company?”

“Relax grandma, I’m the one that applied for that. Working with Mom is difficult and I don’t want to be having problems with her all the time.” I said and she faced Dad.

“Is there something going on that am not aware of?” She asks Dad who smiles.

“Nothing is going on Mom, Vivian is difficult and it’s advisable not to get on her way.” He said and I gave him a thumb. He knows his wife so well.

“How about I just put her in her place instead,” Grandma said and sit up.

“Please Mom, try not to turn my house into a war zone,” Dad said and sped off.

“I hate these newspapers, they’re not helping,” I said and close the sixth one Fateemah gave me. I was supposed to look for a job vacancy in those newspapers but they turned out to be useless.
“Am I going to be jobless forever?” I ask her but instead she ru-b my back as-suring me that something is definitely going to come. A job opportunity.

“Something just struck in. I heard that there’s always a job opportunity online so I’m thinking maybe we should check the internet. There might be a job.” She said and I gave her a stare.

“You have this idea and you still went ahead to bring useless papers to me?!”

“Don’t blame me, I thought we could find something here.” She said but I roll my eyes.

We went to a cafè and we were able to use their internet for a token, while searching for any job website, we stumbled acrose VPH website and been that it’s a fashion house I clic-ked on it because I’ve always dreamt of becoming a fashion designer and luckily for me, there is a job vacancy but they’re looking for a model.

“What are you waiting for? Go ahead and apply afterall you have the requirements.” Fateemah said and I gave her a funny stare.

“Requirements? Are you blind?”
I know I’m beautiful but I don’t think I can stand a chance with the other beauty that will apply for the same position and besides am not looking forward to becoming a model.

“Wait, are you having a low self-esteem? Are you decent now?” She asked me and I nod my head as a no.
“Then apply girl, who knows you might stand a chance.” She said. Did I say that I have a stupid friend that gives false hope?
“Just clic-k the apply bu-tton, will you! I heard that they pay models well especially if you have a line you’re working for.” She added but I just don’t know why I can’t seem to clic-k on the apply bu-tton and the next thing I saw was a form. Fateemah has clic-ked it.
“Now start filling the form.”

When they got into the house, Madam Esther was just looking around, awed at what her son has done with the place.

Vivian is about to climb down the stairs when her eyes and that of Madam Esther met. All the pain the old woman made her go throu-ghstarted rushing back and she felt as if she should just devour her and tear her into pieces.

“Stop looking at me like that and come and give your mother-in-law a hu-g.” Madam Esther said and spread her arms to welcome Vivian into it.

Vivian looks at her husband and son before turning to Madam Esther still standing on the stairs smiling.

“I will rather not. It’s better to be safe than sorry.” She said and Madam Esther giggled.

“Are you not going to welcome me into my son’s house?”

Vivian nod her head and took a step down.

“As long as you stay out of my way we won’t have any problem.” She said and walk pas-s her.

“She’s bitter,” Ryan said and Madam Esther only smile.
