Daniella episode 19

✨✨🌠 Daniella💞💞💞

#EPISODE_19. 🌠🌠🌠🌠

“Hey good morning Adam.” I greeted, dropping my bag on my seat.

“How are you Daniella?”

“I’m fine.”

“You don’t look fine though.” He said as we both had our seat.

“How?”

“Your eyes are so shrunken inside and the dark circles un-der your eyes are visible.”

“Oh about that, I didn’t really get enough sleep.”

“Why? Guardian problems?”

“No, I was re-ading.” I lied.

“So you do night re-ading?”

“Since I don’t have time for my books during the day because of one chore or the other, I just have only at night to re-ad.”
“So fill me in about yesterday. What did Mr Nnamdi do to you?”
“He only told me to sweep the ground floor corridors.”
Adam snorted in a chuckle. “And I thought he was going to give you a brutal punishment. Anyways, lucky you sha. ”
“I know, right!”
“So what time did you leave school?”
“Because of that yeye boy called Peter, I left school at around that five.”
“So wait, he was with you the whole time you were serving punishment?”
“Yeah, he was. He even helped me to sweep.”

“Aw! That’s so sweet!” He t©uçhed his che-st. “You guys were pla-ying lovey-dovey movie right?” He wiggled his brows.
“Which one is lovey-dovey movie again? Abeg Adam don’t start o.”

Adam chuckled, “Speaking of Peter, where’s he?”
Both of our eyes searched the clas-sroom. “I have no idea. He comes late to school these days.”

“Yeah, I noticed. Maybe you should ask him the reason.”

“Ehhe, do you know that Peter asked me out yesterday?” I asked, whispering in a gossip like manner.
Adam g@sped, wi-dening his eyes. “No way! Like he asked you to be his girlfriend?”

“Uh-huh.” I said, smiling.

“Aw! And what did you say?”

“I said a big yes.” Just when I said that, the mathematics teacher walked into the clas-s and everyone stood up to greet him.

▶🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠
It was break time and I had told Adam and Gbemi about Peter and me being official. Believe me, they had been gushing and squealing over it since, especially Gbemi. Though I found it weird on Adam’s side because he was a guy, I just overlooked it. I had noticed over time that Adam was effeminate and I found it unique and alluring. One doesn’t get to see that kind of boy everyday. Anyway, the both of them seemed so happy about Peter and me.
At the moment, I was walking to my clas-s from the school cafeteria, where Adam, Gbemi and I went to buy snacks for break, with Charles walking beside me. He had earlier on told Gbemi and Adam to excuse us and that he wanted to have some time alone with me. As usual, the both of them immediately gave us space.
“Hey Daniella, how are you doing?” Charles asked, fumbling with his shi-t collar.
“How am I doing? What a cliché!” I mumbled un-der my breath, rolling my eyes.
“Sorry?” His voice was higher than normal.

“I’m fine, thank you.” I replied.

He di-pped his hand in his trou-ser pocket and brou-ght out a box of chocolate. “I got you this.” He handed the chocolate to me.

“Thanks Charles, but I’d pas-s this time.” I said, shaking my head. Much as I wanted to gr-ab the chocolate box from him and devoured it, I just had to reject it.
“You’re not going to reject chocolate, are you?”
I sighed and rolled my eyes.

“St©p fronting and take this chocolate joor!” He extended the chocolate to me.

“Guy, I don’t want. It’s not by f0rç£.”

“Okay.” He shrugged. “I’d just have the chocolate then. So about our last conversation…” He trailed off, looking at me intensely.
“Okay, what about it?” I feigned ignorance.

“You don’t seem so much in a good mood. Maybe we’d just talk about it later.”

“No, no, let’s talk about it now. I have come up with an answer to your request alre-ady.”

“plea-se let it be positive.”

“I’m afraid, it’s not. I can’t be your girlfriend Charles, I’m sorry.”
His mood went dim and his face fell. For some reason, I pitied him. “Why? I mean, why can’t you be my girlfriend?” He asked with a sad tone.
“I have a b©yfri£nd.”

“$h!t!” He hit his right fist with his left palm. “Why didn’t you tell me this since?”

“Uh, we just started d@t!ng.” I gave him a duh look.
He narrowed his eyes at me in a glare. “Who’s this guy and when did you start d@t!nghim?”

“Charles it doesn’t matter. What matters now is that I can’t d@t£ you. I’m sorry.”

“Oh, I get it.” He said sombrely and walked off. I felt so sad that I turned him down. But then again, one could only ask me out, but it was my choice to say yes or no and there was no point saying yes to someone that I didn’t have any feeling for just because I wanted to plea-se him, without putting my own feelings into consideration. That’s downright absurd.

I got to my clas-s and walked up straight to Peter. “Hey hubby! How are you doing today?” I asked cheerily, sitting beside him. He was scribbling down note from another book.

“Not fine.” He said flatly, not sparing me a glance.
His response took me aback and I scrunched my eyebrows as I asked, “Why?”

“Because you spent half of the break talking to that Charles guy, leaving your b©yfri£ndall to himself to copy this annoying long note!”

“Aw! So that’s why you’re not fine?” I asked, smiling.

“It’s enough reason not to be fine! I hate it when I see you both together. It makes me… I don’t know…” He sighed, running his hand over his forehead.

“Jealous?”

“Yes Daniella, jealous! If that’s what you wanna hear!” He raised his voice.

“So why are you shouting at me?” I asked, feigning a babyish voice.

A wry sm-irk formed on hisl-ips. “I’m sorry if I shouted.”
“I’m sorry if I also got you jealous by talking to Charles.”
“Before I accept your apology, I want you to tell me the relationsh!pyou both have together.”

“Nothing really. He likes me and he asked me to be his girlfriend, but I turned him down because I alre-ady have the sweetest b©yfri£ndever.” I sn-ked my arm around his and rested my head on his shoulder.

“Mehn , I didn’t know you were these cheesy.”
I lifted my head from his shoulder. “Oh because I called you sweet, you are na calling me cheese,
abi ?”

“The word is cheesy.”

“I don’t care!” I said, almost immediately. I folded my arms around my che-st and then looked away.

“Are you angry with me?” Peter asked.
I ignored him.

He tickled my w@!st, ma-king me shake. “St©p that.” I said seriously.

“You like to vex o. Oya, come and help me write.” He said, putting his arm around my shoulder.
I hissed and was about to stand up, but he quic-kly held my wrist.

“Okay I’m sorry for calling you cheesy.” He apologised.
“Now was that so ha-rd to say?” I asked as I turned to look at him. “Better get over your pride as I’m your girlfriend, because you’d be f0rç£d to say sorry many times.”
“Sit down joor and help your b©yfri£ndto write.” He dragged me to the seat and handed his pen to me.
I eyed the pen and looked up at him. “Use the magic word.”

“I have no idea what that is.”

“Then you don’t want me to help you write.”
He sighed. “Okay plea-se. plea-se Daniella, help me write.”
I smiled smugly. “That’s more like it. I’m teaching you well boo.” I took the pen from him and started to help him copy the note, with him watching me.

Later, he unZi-pped his bag and brou-ght out a square shaped pack from it. “I bought you this.”

I dropped the pen on the book and collected the pack. “What’s this?” I asked, studying it and then realisation hit me that it was an Android phone.
“A phone.” Peter said.

“You bought me a phone? Aw!” I threw my arms around his n£¢k in a ti-ght hvg. I was too excited to care about the surrounding students.

I let go of him quic-kly and looked at the phone pack again.
“Thanks Peter.” I said, smiling.

“Anything for you babe.” He smiled. “Your sim card, memory card and everything you nee-d for the phone is inside.”

“But sadly, I don’t really know how to operate an Android phone.”

“Don’t worry, I’d teach you tomorrow. For now, just go and keep it in your bag before anyone sees it. They’re so many thieves in this clas-s.”

I chuckled and walked towards my bag to keep the phone, having in mind that I couldn’t ask for a better b©yfri£nd.

✨✨✨

It was Monday—the day of the first term exam. On the exam timetable, Government was the first subject the art students were having, before Literature. I was in the art clas-s and at the moment, we were instructed by the invigilator to do away with our school bags and every item that could implicate us during the exam.
I, for one, wasn’t one to indulge in examination malpractice, especially the act of bringing items for cheating into the exam hall, because fear would have the best of me throu-ghout that I wouldn’t end up using it. However today, because of my inadequate preparation for the exam, I planned on copying my seat p@rtner Adam, which in Nigeria was popularly tagged giraffeing.

As soon as all the students in the clas-s settled down, the invigilator, a dark and six feet tall woman, dished out the exam script round. After which, she told us to start.
About twenty minutes later, I was done with the objective section of the exam and I moved on to the theory. The first question which was compulsory seemed like Spanish to me. I didn’t know a thing.

I looked around the clas-s which was as silent as a tomb. Some students were frowning their faces at the exam script and gnawing the covers of their pens, while others had their pens dancing on their answer sheet. I looked in the direction of Peter and he was hitting the base of his pen on the desk quietly and staring into space. Perhaps he was trying to remember the answer to a question.
My eyes travelled to the invigilator, who was sitting on a bench in front of the clas-s. She was obviously relishing the pawpaw in her hand that she didn’t seem to pay any attention to us. All she did was stare outside the window and devour her pawpaw. I took that opportunity to furtively sneak a peek at Adam’s answer sheet and he seemed to have written a lot.

“Adam.” I called in a hushed whisper. He turned to look at me.

“Do you know the answers to question one?” I asked.

“I’ve not done that one yet.” He whispered, returning to his work immediately.

“But do you know it?”

“Yeah, kinda.”

“Which one are you doing now?” I asked.
He rolled his eyes before whispering, “Number three. That one is simple. See Daniella, just do the ones you know first.”
“Hey! That boy at the back!” The invigilator called and some students that couldn’t mind their business snapped their heads to the back to know who was called. The invigilator was looking straight at Adam.

“Me?” Adam questioned.

“No, your grandfather.” The woman replied sarcastically, shaking her head. “Get up from there with your exam script and come sit on the floor to continue with your exam.”

“On the floor?” Adam protested, his voice sounding high.
“No, on my head.” Sarcasm laced her reply. “Will you do what I told you and st©p disturbing everyone!”

“See what you caused.” Adam mumbled to me before moving to the front and doing as told. I didn’t only feel bad for being the reason the invigilator caught Adam, but also because I had lost my only means of getting the answers to the first question. Be that as it may, I did the ones I could do and waited until it was remaining only one student in the exam hall before submitting.
Gbemi immediately rushed to meet me as I got out of the clas-s and moved towards my bag. Many students were outside the clas-s talking incessantly about the exam. “Hey Daniella! How was the exam?” Gbemi asked.

“My sister.” I said, alre-ady giving off the impression that the exam wasn’t favourable. “It was tough o.”
Gbemi laughed. “Indeed. So which questions were you able to answer asides from question one which was compulsory?”

“That question one, I didn’t even attempt it. I answered only question four and five.”
“You didn’t do question one?” She wi-de-ned her eyes in surprise.
“Yeah, I didn’t know a thing.” I said, keeping my exam script in my bag.
“Wow, and the question carries the most mark.”
“Whatever! At least, I was able to answer question four and five well enough. With that, I don’t think I can fail the exam.”
“Oya ! Well as for me, the exam was quite easy.” Gbemi admitted.
“Really?”
“Yeah, everyone has been ma-king jest of the Government teacher for setting such easy questions. You’re the only one saying it was difficult.”
“Wow, it’s surprising to hear that. And I thought it was a general thing for everyone. Maybe why I found it so difficult was because I didn’t study so well for the exam.”
“Yeah, maybe.”
“So, where’s Adam?” I asked, my eyes searching the corridor where many of the students were. “I nee-d to apologise for what happened earlier.”
“What happened? Oh wait, because the invigilator told him to sit on the floor and do his exam?”
“Yeah, I was the cause.”
“How?”
“Just tell me where Adam is.”
“He’s over there.” Gbemi pointed at Adam who was standing alone, resting on a pillar and had his face buried in a book.
I walked up to him with Gbemi trailing behind me. “Hey Adam, how was the exam?” I asked, smiling.
“It was fine, except that someone here was the reason I had to sit on the floor to write my exam.” He rolled his eyes saying that.
I sighed, “Look Adam, I’m sorry for—”
“No nee-d to apologise.” Adam cut me off. “It’s okay. It’s all good. At least, sitting on the floor didn’t st©p me from finishing the exam. Did you eventually do that question one you were asking me of?”
“No, I did only question four and five.”
Adam mouth dropped open and he looked like he was finding words. “I feel at fault.”
“No, no, nob©dy’s at fault. I just happen not to have studied well, that’s why I couldn’t tackle the question.”
“But you answered the other two questions well
sha?”
I shrugged, “Mhm.”

“So you’re studying for Literature, right?” Gbemi asked Adam.

“Yeah, I have a feeling that one won’t be easy.”

“But who says we can’t go for break first then continue to study almighty literature later?” Gbemi shrugged.

“Right?” I said and Gbemi held my hand as we trio made our way to the school canteen.

On our way there, I noticed that I hadn’t seen Peter since I c@m£ out from the exam hall, so I decided to ask Adam and Gbemi if they had and their response was negative. I made a mental note to look for him after we must have left the canteen.
Getting to the canteen, I saw Peter who I was looking for standing very close to Prudence who had her back to the wall and her arms folded around her che-st. Peter caught a glance at me and immediately averted his eyes as he kept talking to Prudence. Did he just do that? I couldn’t believe that Peter kept talking to Prudence even after seeing me. Did it not cross his mind that I would get jealous seeing him with other girls, especially when both of them were alone and so close to each other. I wanted to walk up to them and interrupt whatever conversation they were having, but I thought against it.

“Is that not Peter I see with Prudence?” Gbemi mumbled in a gritted teeth.

“Yes o, it’s Peter.” Adam said.
I didn’t utter a word. I just kept a straight face and continued to walk towards the vendors.

“Daniella, you’re not saying anything or are you and Peter fighting?” Gbemi asked.

“No we’re not.” I replied. “Believe me, I’m as surprised as you guys are. I wonder what Peter is doing alone with Prudence of all people.”

“Instead of wondering, why don’t you make an appearance?” Gbemi suggested.

“There’s no nee-d for that. He has seen me alre-ady, but he’s still with her.”

“What! What kind of b©yfri£ndwould be with another girl and see his girlfriend and still be comfortable with that girl?”

“I guess Peter’s kind.” I said, sounding a bit sad. “Look, let’s just get some snacks and go back to the clas-s to study.”
Adam was narrowing his eyes as he watched Peter and Prudence talking. I raised my eyebrows at him and snapped my f!ngersin front of his face.

“Hey weirdo! St©p staring at them like that. Let’s just do what we c@m£ here for and return to our clas-ses.”

“It might not be what it seems though.” Adam said.

“Sorry?” I begged for him to repeat.

“Why do I feel like Peter has something up his sleeves as he’s talking to her? I mean Prudence.” Adam asked rhetorically.

“I don’t know about that, but he would have to explain to me why he had to keep talking to Prudence even after seeing me, his girlfriend.”

That said, Adam, Gbemi and I bought snacks from the vendors and walked back to our clas-s. When we got to the clas-s, we settled down in our respective seats and took out our Literature note to revise before the exam commenced.
Minutes pas-sed and Peter still hadn’t returned to the clas-s, neither had Prudence. I couldn’t help but wonder what must be up between the both of them. I didn’t want to believe Peter was cheating on me with Prudence. The mere thought of it made me scared alre-ady. Peter was my main source of happiness so it would really break me, if I found out that he was cheating on me.
It was finally time for Literature exam. The invigilator walked into the clas-s and many students that were hanging outside the corridor trailed behind her. Peter and Prudence were among them. Prudence had her seat in the front row, while Peter made his way to his seat at the back row close to mine. He turned back to look at me and then gave me a wi-nk. It took a lot of self control not to roll my eyes at him. I feigned a smile and looked away instead.
