“Leave her alone.” Abby’s mother screamed, dragging the arm of her daughter while the monster was tugging at the other arm of the little girl.

“Don’t make me angry, woman.” He snarled, shooting daggers at her through his eyes.

“Hit me if you want, Frederick!” She boldly stated. “Do whatever you please with me but don’t touch my daughter. Don’t.”

He snickered, dropping the child’s arm and dipping his hands inside his pocket.

“When did you start getting bold, sweetheart?” He crouched down to her level because she was seated on the ground with her face bruised from his assault.

“I have been quiet about your assaults on me but no, I won’t let you hurt my child. Never.” She said, tears trailing down her face which only provoked the monster whose name was Frederick.

“Ugh!” He groaned, momentarily squeezing his eyes shut. “How many times have I told you to stop crying in front of me?”

“I am human, Frederick.” She said, sniffling. “You don’t expect me not to cry. I am not a monster like you.”

He suddenly gripped her hair from the root, earning wails of pain from her.

“A monster like me?” He repeated, diverting his gaze to the little girl who hasn’t let a word out of her mouth or a single tear from her eyes. She just sat still beside her mother, looking into space like someone whose spirit and soul has left their body. “What about your daughter then?”

The woman likewise glanced at her child and quickly pulled her into a warm embrace, placing a soft kiss on the child’s head.

“What have you done to my daughter, Frederick? She is just a child.”

“A child?” He chuckled darkly, coming up to his feet while pulling the woman up to her feet using her hair. “You want her to be a weak child and then grow up into an adult to become a pathetic being like you?”

“I am not pathetic.”

“Are you not now?” He gestured at her face. “Because you look pathetic to me, my love.”

“I hate you.” She growled, fresh tears rolling down her face. “I hate you so much. You disgust me. Just go and leave my child and me alone.”

“We are married, darling. It’s for better or worse, remember? Until death do us part.” He wiggled his brows.

“Do you know my greatest mistake?” She asked and he shook his head as a no, awaiting her response. “Marrying a monster like you. That’s a mistake I will regret for the rest of my life.” She tightened her arms around her child. “My daughter is going through all of these pains because of my stupidity and wrong choices. I hate you but I hate myself even more.”

Frederick started laughing as if he has just heard the craziest joke of his life. He threw his head back, releasing his wife’s hair as he continued laughing, pulling out a pack of cigarettes.

“Do you know one of the things I love about you?” The woman said nothing. “You always make me laugh. Even your pathetic face is like a comedy show to me.” He took out one stick of cigarette and put it in between his lips. “If you hate me so much like you are claiming to do, why did you say yes to me when I proposed?”

“Because I thought you were a good man. When my first husband died, you were there for Abigail and me. You showed us love and care. You made us dependent on you. You made us see light in you but a few years after our marriage, I started seeing the beast in you. You are a liar, a deceiver. You are no different from the devil. You are a bad and heartless man!” Frederick kept on laughing as he listened to her words but he instantly stopped laughing when he heard her next words. “I can’t do this anymore, Frederick. I want a divorce.”

“What did you just say?”

“You heard me. I can’t keep endangering the life of my daughter with you around. Only God knows what you’ve done to her while I am in my place of work. Look at my child, she is like a shadow of herself. What did you do to Abigail? Huh? You know what, don’t answer that.” She wiped her face with the back of her hand. “I want a divorce.”

“Are you high on drugs?” He asked.

“You are the one smoking weed right now. Who do you think is high on drugs now?” She retorted.

“How f**king dare you?” He bellowed, taking a step closer to her while she moved back with her child. “How many times do I have to tell you that this marriage is forever and only death can separate us, hmm?”

“I don’t want to stay married to you, Frederick. Can’t you listen? I am tired of this assault. I thought you loved me. I thought you were a good person but no, you have always been a monster in the appearance of a human. I can condone your abuse on me but not on my daughter.”

“Abigail is also my daughter!” He pointed out.

The woman vigorously shook her head. “No. She is your friend’s daughter. My first husband’s daughter. A man who treated me right. God. He must be really mad at me for marrying his best friend with him dead and gone.” She let out.

“Still. Abby is my daughter. I might not be her biological father but I am still her step-father.” He said.

“And yet you treat her like this? Who are you trying to fool here, Frederick? Stay away from us.” She held Abby’s hand and started pulling her toward the front door.

“Where are you going?” He asked.

“My daughter and I are not spending the night here. I will tell my lawyer to send you the divorce papers by tomorrow morning. Please sign them and don’t create unnecessary drama.” She was almost getting to the door when Frederick yanked her hair from behind and dragged her back.

She lost her balance and fell to the ground and in the process, she released Abby’s hand.

“Mo…mom,” Abby called out in a quiet voice, reaching out to hold her mother’s hand but the monster caught hold of it and pulled her up to her feet, away from her poor mother who was wincing in pain from the impact of being pushed hard to the hard floor.

“Let go of her,” The woman whimpered, trying her possible best to get up to her feet. “Stay away from my child.”

“You can’t escape me, sweetheart. Only death can take you away from me.” He started kicking her on the stomach, beating her to stupor until she started bleeding from in between her legs but that didn’t make him stop with the assault.

Abby tried to stop him but he was f**king strong.

She sat on the ground, watching him beat her mother like usual. But there was something different about her this time around.

She couldn’t cry.

While she watch life leave the body of her mother as the monster kept hitting her mother continuously until she finally stopped breathing and left the land of the living. Abby couldn’t call for help neither could she fight for her mother or shed tears.

The monster was going to be a father because her mother was pregnant with his child but he used his hands to kill the baby and her mother.

That night, she lost everything. she lost the ability to cry, and two people; Her mother and unborn sibling.

She was left to live the rest of her life alone in the bosom of a monster.

#Present

He slammed his lips on hers, cutting her off from whatever she was going to say.

Abby’s eyes went wide but she didn’t pull away nor did she respond to the kiss.
____

Jersey slowly pulled away from her, looking deeply into her eyes as if wanting to see deep into her soul.

Abby didn’t look away. She was still in shock from the delicate kiss.

What did he just do?

Why did he do that?

Why does she crave more?

Her eyes moved down to his lips and she couldn’t stop herself from the next thing she did.

Abigail slammed her lips on his, closing her eyes as she devoured the moment.

Jersey quickly responded, kissing her back without hesitating.

Their lips moved in sync as they savor each other. Their heartbeat was loud enough for both of them to hear.

Abby wrapped her arms around his neck, dropping the cup of coffee on the floor while he encircled her waist, deepening the kiss.

He stuck out his tongue, asking for permission which she granted him immediately.

One of his hands was wrapped around her waist while the other explored her body until it settled on the back of her neck.

Their tongues tangled and went to war in their locked mouths, battling for dominance. They were breathless but it was difficult for them to pull away because they both wanted more from each other.

However, Jersey pulled back so they could catch a little of their breath before attacking her lips once again.

They both tasted of coffee and Abby who hated black coffee began to love them as she could taste them on his tongue.

It was a moment that both wanted to last forever. They wanted more but couldn’t get it for obvious reasons.

Eventually, they broke the passionate kiss but didn’t pull away as their forehead pressed against each other.

They inhaled deep breaths. Abby’s eyes were still closed while Jersey stared at her face, taking in every one of her facial features.

A few seconds later, her eyes fluttered open and they locked eyes.

“What…what was that for?” She asked in a whisper.

“I’m sorr_”

“No,” She cut him off. “don’t apologize. Just tell me why you did it.”

He cupped her face and pecked her pink lips which were swollen from the heated kiss they shared.

“Because… I wanted to.” He answered.

“Why?”

“I don’t know.” He answered.

Abby also didn’t know why she responded to the kiss like that but she won’t deny the fact that she enjoyed it.

But what does it mean between the both of them?

A kiss is usually shared with someone you love so much, right?

She can’t say she was in love with her director, can she?

Maybe she felt attraction for him but definitely not love, right?

Her heart was beating very fast and she was afraid that it would jump out of her body.

“I should leave.” She rose to her feet and scurried away from him and left the rooftop without taking another glance at him.

Jersey ruffled his hair as he watched her leave his sight.

What does he feel for her? He doesn’t know but one thing was certain, he wants her.

“F**k, I’m tired,” Emma grunted, massaging her legs. “I can’t believe I cleaned the toilets on my first day at work.”

“I can’t believe you are getting used to this janitor’s lifestyle.” Robert smirked.

“Haha. Very funny.”

“That wasn’t supposed to be a joke.” He rolled his eyes.

They heard the sound of the door opening and closing and then five people including Ethan, walked in.

“Are those the newbies?” One of them asked.

“Mm-hmm.” Ethan nodded his head, sitting down on the armchair. “Introduce yourselves,”

“Hi, I’m Luca.” A boy introduced himself first with a wave of his hand.

“Sammy,” Another guy introduced, saluting them.

“Lisa,” A girl muttered under her breath, not sparing them a single glance. She sat down and started scrolling through her phone.

“The bitchy one amongst us, ignore her. I am Minty, by the way.” The girl who spoke up first when they entered introduced herself last, sitting down in between Emma and Robert.

“Is she usually like this?” Emma questioned.

Minty nodded her head. “Yes.”

“How are you able to tolerate her nasty attitude?”

“Tolerate?” Minty laughed, shaking her head. “I don’t tolerate it, I just ignore her.”

“Hmm.”

“What are your names, though? Ethan only told us we have newbies but didn’t tell us their names.”

“Oh, I’m Em… I mean, Ginny.”

“Richard.”

“Nice to meet the both of you. I promise to guide you through the process of being Santos Hospital janitors so you don’t get lost.” She joked with a wink.

“Thank you, Minty.” Emma and Robert said in sync.

She waved them off. “It’s nothing. I know you must be wondering if we are the only janitors that work here.”

“It’s as if you read my mind.” Emma stated.

“Well, others are still busy while some haven’t resumed their shift. Things get shitty here, you know.” She stood up. “Anyway, come on, let me show you around.”

“Most people will think you are the supervisor and not Ethan.” Sammy said.

“Ethan doesn’t mind me showing the newbies around. Or does he?” She stared at him, waiting for his answer.

He waved them off.

“You see,” She giggled. “Let’s go.” She locked arms with Emma and pulled her along with her while Robert followed them from behind alongside Sammy and Luca.

Ginny drank the last drop of coffee and yawned tiredly, stretching her muscles.

She has been cross-checking the photos of all the victims but hasn’t found anything tangible. Yet.

“I need more caffeine.” She was about to stand up when she noticed something on one of the victim’s hair.

Ginny studied the picture closely and the others as well. Including that of Tara.

She noticed the hair loss of the victims. All of them lose a patch of hair. It can’t be a coincidence.

Ginny pinched her brows together, still staring at the pictures.

“What poison could cause hair loss?”

ROBERT: SHOULD WE BE HERE? WHAT IF SOMEONE SEES US AND RECOGNIZES US?

EMMA: KEEP YOUR HEAD LOW. WE ARE HERE TO GET ANSWERS FROM THE JANITORS, AREN’T WE? AND WE CAN ONLY DO THAT BY BONDING WELL WITH THEM.

ROBERT: I KNOW BUT…

EMMA: BUT WHAT?

EMMA: AND CAN YOU STOP FROWNING YOUR FACE LIKE THAT?????

ROBERT: ????

“Who are you chatting with?” Minty asked, interrupting Emma’s little banter with Robert through text.

“My friend.” Emma quickly answered, dropping her phone back into her pocket.

“Hope I didn’t distract you?”

“Nah.”

Sammy sipped orange juice from a cup straw, staring between Emma and Robert.

“Can you tell us more about yourselves?” He asked.

“What else do you want to know about us aside from our names?” Robert queried, shoving a piece of meat into his mouth and chewing it carefully.

“Why you decided to work as a janitor, for starters.” Sammy shrugged.

Emma was about to grab a bottle of water from the table but Robert collected it before she could, he uncapped the bottle and gave it to her.

“Thank you, Robby.” Emma said as she gulped water, letting out a refreshing breath.

“Robby?” Minty repeated, giving her a weird look. “Why did you call Richard that?”

“What?” Emma face-palmed herself for the terrible mistake. “Uh… Well, he reminds me of Robin Hood, you know, from that cartoon.”

‘F**k, good lie, Emma. Good lie. Don’t ruin this plan, stupid.’ She thought to herself.

“Oh. I see. Just like the way, Sammy reminds me of Gaston. You know, from the beauty and the beast.”

They both chuckled.

Sammy threw them a hard glare.

“I heard that.”

“Sure, you did.” Minty rolled her eyes.

“So,” Robert cleared his throat. “You asked a_”

“Did you hear?” Luca interrupted Robert as he approached the table with a tray of food and sat down beside Sammy.

“Heard what?” Sammy and Minty asked at the same time.

“The detectives were here not quite long ago.” He informed.

Emma pulled out her phone and quickly sent a text to her partner.

EMMA: THIS IS OUR MOMENT????

ROBERT: ????

“Really?” Sammy said and Luca nodded his head.

“Why?” Minty asked.

“To check the CCTV footage, of course.” He answered.

“Did they find anything?” She asked.

“Unfortunately, no.”

Minty bites her lower lip and started playing with her food, a frown on her face.

Emma observed her and noticed the girl’s strange behavior. She doesn’t know her well but something tells her that she was battling with an internal affair.

“What happened?” Robert asked, pretending to be clueless.

“Come closer,” Sammy instructed and everyone leaned close to the table. “There was a murder in the hospital a few weeks ago. The cops are investigating but with the recording of that night gone, it will be pretty difficult for them.”

“Oh, my.” Robert shook his head, sadly.

“Sometimes I fear of being the killer’s next victim.” Sammy said.

Luca laughed. “Don’t be afraid, buddy. You are nothing special for the killer to notice.”

Emma creased her brows as she process Luca’s words.

‘What is the connection between these victims?’ She thought. ‘The five victims were all Abby’s patients but Tara wasn’t. Although, there was a special bond between Tara and Abby… Could Abby be the reason why the murderer is killing innocent people?’ She said in her head but got distracted.

“I saw something that night,” Minty blurted out, grabbing everyone’s attention, including that of Emma’s.

“You what?” Sammy and Luca asked in sync.

She hesitated.

“I saw something that night the murder happened.” She repeated in a low voice.

“What did you see?” Emma asked.

It was silence for a while as Minty was taking her time to talk.

“Dr. Sandra dropped by the hospital that night dressed in all-black attire. She spoke to Thelma before leaving the hospital.”

“Okay? How does that matter?” Luca asked.

“That’s because she was stepping out of the dead patient’s ward when I saw her.”

“What?”

“Ward 302. I can’t forget it. Dr. Abby always asks me to check up on the patient whenever she can’t.” She sighed.

“Wait, does this mean Dr. Sandra is the killer?” Sammy asked.

“Should we be having this conversation here?” Luca added.

“Just keep your voice low.” Robert suggested.

“But there was something else that happened that night,” She began. “Someone else entered the patient’s ward before Dr. Sandra came along.”

“What?” Robert and Emma said in sync, looking confused.

“Listen,” She kept her voice even lower than before. “there is a possibility that Dr. Sandra killed the patient but there is also a possibility that she might have arrived at the scene when the patient was already dead.”
