Chapter 197&198 (FINALE)

•••••
( HAPPY HOME )

“I owe Evelyn for giving me the courage to accept my feelings. Tsk. I’ve been such a jerk.” He smirked. “You know, I lost a Diamond once… I don’t want to lose another one.”

She smiled.

“You are truly not going to regret the decision to be with me?”

“Do you trust me?”

She nodded quietly.

“Answer with words, Tesoro.” He said.

“Tesoro? Wait, you’ve called me that before. What does it mean?” She asked.

Mikhail’s li-ps stretched into a smile.

“Sweetheart.”

“Tesoro means sweetheart? Really? So that day at the hospital, you called me sweetheart.” She chuckled.

“Tsk. Now that is proof that I have always had a thing for you.”

“Yeah.” She held his gaze. “I trust you, Mikhail. With my life.”

He placed a kis-s on her knuckles and smiled again.

“Then believe my words that I will never regret this decision of wanting to be with you. I love you, Diamond.”

“Oh, my God. Say it again.”

“I love you.”

“Again,”

Mikhail laughed and repeated it again, “I love you.”

“Hearing you say the word ‘I love you’ is like music to my ear.” She admitted. “I love you too.”

“Aww.” A voice cooed from behind, interrupting the lovebirds.

Diamond and Mikhail snapped their head in the direction of the voice and found their friends standing over there with huge grins on their faces.

“How long have you guys been there?” Diamond asked in a low voice, a smile playing at the side of her li-ps.

They shrugged while Zara answered,

“Long enough to know that you both have always had something for each other. Ayden, $1000, where is it?” She stretched out her hand to him without even sparing him a glance.

Ayden gro-aned and brou-ght out some money from his pocket and then handed it over to her.

“Wait, what just happened?” Diamond asked, looking between her best friends.

“We made a bet. I told him you are going to fall in love with your boss he chose to oppose me. Like come on, we all know I am an expert when it comes to detecting love.” She winked.

“What the hell? You made a bet on my feelings?”

“Mm-hmm. Sorry. But I don’t regret trusting the old you. I knew she was still in there somewhere, waiting for the right person to come along. And on the brighter side of things, I gained $1000. fuc-k , I love my life. We got to celebrate. Bills on me.”

Sean slung his arm over his girlfriend’s shoulder and dropped a kis-s on the side of her head.

“This is why I love you.”

“Of course, you do.”

“You really fuc-k ed up, Diamond. I was rooting for the new you who doesn’t believe in love.” Ayden muttered, pouting.

“That’s a bit offensive, babe. How can you expect her not to believe in love? Don’t you believe in love?” Lake frowned.

“I love you, Lake.”

“I don’t think you do. Who knows, maybe you don’t believe in love and you are only deceiving me. I’m leaving.” Lake turned around and started walking away, smiling.

“Babe, I’m sorry. I love you so much. Wait for me!” Ayden ran after him.

The others laughed out, watching after them until they went out of sight.

Rhodes cleared up his throat, grabbing everyone’s attention.

“Diamond,” He began. “Can I have a word with you?”

She hesitated and then nodded her head.

••••

They were left alone in front of the funeral house. Both sitting down on the bench Diamond and Mikhail were once sitting on.

It was quiet between them for over five minutes.

“I’m sorry for everything that has happened,” Rhodes began, breaking the silence. “It is all my_”

“Stop right there.” She cut him off, giving him a warning look. “Nothing is your fault, okay? You are not to be blamed for the death of my mother or Julius Santiago. It is not your fault.”

“Don’t you hate me?”

“Hate you for what reason?” She queried.

He shrugged. “For what took place years ago before your birth. I should have stopped Julius from raping your mother.”

“Do you know that if you had stopped him, I wouldn’t be born?”

“Yeah, that’s true. But there is also a possibility that you would have still been born.”

“Nothing is certain. Anyway,” She smiled. “I don’t blame you for anything. Everything happened for a reason, I’m sure of that.”

“I’m glad to see you in such a good mood compare to how you’ve been this past week.” He stated.

Diamond let out a soft breath, fidgeting with her fingers. “I had blamed myself for my mother’s death. I thought I didn’t deserve happiness or freedom. I hated myself these past couple of days. But after having a conversation with Mikhail… I realized that it wasn’t my fault and I can’t keep blaming myself for every bad thing that happens.”

Rhodes smiled and nodded his head in agreement.

“I should thank Ca-ssano for bringing you out of that dark room you created in your head.”

“Yeah…”

They both stared at the funeral house.

“Do you think mother is happy?” Diamond asked after a moment of silence.

“I’m sure she is. The last she wants is for her daughter to blame herself for her death. Are you going to miss her?”

“My mother and I never shared the mother-daughter bond. We were never really fond of each other. However, the sacrifice she made was…” Diamond hesitated. “was rare. She earned my love and respect at her last breath. So yes, I’m going to miss her.”

“I’m going to miss her too. I loved her so much.” Rhode murmured.

“You can get married again if_”

He shook his head, cutting her off. “I don’t think I ever want to get married again. Your mother is the only woman suitable for me. She is my better half. And besides, what is the need to get married to some other woman? I have a daughter already.”

“I am your adopted daughter. You need a child of your own. A child that has your blood running in their veins.”

“Diamond,” He called out. “There is a secret I never get to tell your mother before she died and I regret keeping it away from her for this long…”

“What is it?”

“I can’t birth a child.” He confessed.

Diamond’s eyes went wide. “What?”

“I married your mother not just because I loved her but because she has a child. I know I can’t birth a child so I vowed to marry a woman who already has one. And then I met your mother and you.”

Tears rolled down Diamond’s face and she started crying, surprising Rhodes in the process.

“Hey, honey. Why are you crying? I’m sorry for keeping this away from your mother and you. I’m sorry for deceiving both of you for so long. I’m sorry_”

She cut him off by rushing into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his wa-istand placed the side of her face on his chest, tears falling from her eyes.

“I’m not crying because I am mad at you. I’m just glad.”

“Glad? About what?”

“My mother has always seen me as a curse. She blamed me for certain things especially the fact that she couldn’t get married or bear more children. I’m just so glad that the man she fell in love with married her not only because he loved her but because of me as well. I am not a cursed child after all. I am a blessing.”

“Is that why you are crying?” Rhodes asked, trying to hold back his tears.

She tightened her arms around him and nodded.

“Yes. They are tears of joy.”

He chuckled. “I love you, child. We might not be related by blood or DNA but the love I have for you will never dissipate. You are my daughter and only family. You are never alone, Diamond. Is that clear?”

She nodded. “I love you too, father.”

They stayed glued together for over ten minutes until they heard footsteps from behind.

Both turned around to find Mikhail.

Diamond immediately pulled away from her father and rushed to hug Mikhail, smiling.

Rhodes stood up, shoving his hands inside his pan-ts pocket.

“I didn’t know you really loved my daughter,” He muttered.

“Me too.” Mikhail admitted, staring down at Diamond who was staring at him also with so much love and care evident in her eyes.

“You have to promise me something, Ca-ssano…”

“It is Mikhail. That’s my name.” He corrected.

Rhodes smiled. “Alright, Mikhail. You have to promise me that you will always love and take care of my daughter. She is the only one I have. I can’t risk losing her. I know you are smarter and stronger than me but believe me, I am ready to fight you to the last drop of my blood if anything happens to her.”

“I won’t let anything happen to her, Octa… I mean, Rhodes. You have nothing to worry about.”

“Good. I give you both my blessings then.”

“Blessings? Dad, we are not getting married. We are_”

“Shh, I’m so unpredictable. I can suddenly get married to you tomorrow.”

“What?” Diamond laughed.

“She doesn’t know how unpredictable you can be. I’m a living witness.” Rhodes said.

“I see. I will keep it in mind that my boyfriend is unpredictable.” She winked at him.

Mikhail’s face reddened and he wrapped his arms around her waist.

“Did you just call me your boyfriend?”

“Did I? I can’t remember.” She joked and started walking away.

“Stop right there! You did.” Mikhail argued, following her from behind.

“I can’t remember. Let’s go home, I need to see Aurora. I miss her.”

He held her hands as they walk to the parking lot.

“Well, she misses you too. As for me, I miss your body.”

“You are such a pervert.”

Rhodes tailed them from behind, grinning widely.

•••••

“Nanny!” Aurora squealed as she jumped right into Diamond’s arms.

Paige and Evelyn rushed out of the kitchen, both smiling.

“I miss you so much. You are finally back. I miss you!” Aurora cried.

“I miss you too, kid. I’m sorry for leaving you all like that.” Diamond mumbled, hugging the little girl back.

“Miss Chase!” Paige whined, tears rolling down her face.

“Paige,” Diamond smiled and gave the young maid a side hug being the fact that Aurora has refused to let her go.

“I miss you.”

“I miss you too.” Diamond gazed at Evelyn. “And you too, Evelyn.”

“You just left us like this for a whole week. I was so worried.” The woman said.

“I’m sorry. I have no excuse to_”

“No. You have a reason.”

“Thank you for your understanding.”

Mikhail walked in alongside Marcello.

“Babe,” Marcello walked to Paige and pecked her on the li-ps.

“Hey, how was your day?”

“Amazing. You miss me, right?”

“Yes, I did. But not as much as I missed Diamond.”

They both chuckled and kis-sed again.

Diamond stared at them, looking very surprised and confused.

“They are dating?” She asked Evelyn.

“Yes, dear. It’s about time, you know.”

“I know, right? What about Boaz? I thought… I was rooting her with Boaz.”

“And I was rooting my boss with someone else.” Marcello retorted, sticking his tongue out like a child.

“No way. I was rooting daddy with my nanny. They will make a perfect match.”

“Princess,” Mikhail collected his daughter from Diamond’s arms. “you should consider being a matchmaker.”

“Matchmaker?”

“You are right. Your nanny and I make a perfect match.”

Evelyn giggled. “Oh, my God. Finally! Who said I love you first?”

“Why are you asking?” Mikhail questioned.

“I just want to know.”

Diamond blus-hed. “He did.”

Aurora’s eyes wide-ned and she quickly jumped down from her father’s arms.

“Wait a minute…what is going on?”

Mikhail crouched down to his daughter’s level. “What do you say about daddy and nanny dating and possibly getting married?”

It was completely silent for a while and then suddenly, screams of joy filled the house.

“I SAY YES!!!” She screamed. “I GIVE YOU BOTH MY BLESSINGS. I’M SO EXCITED. ARGH!!!!”

“Calm down, Aurora.” Diamond said in between chuckles.

Mikhail smiled and looked up at Diamond.

“Nothing is stopping us. Everyone is rooting for us…what do you say about us getting married now?”

“Slow down, boy.” Diamond giggled.

“Can you come down to my level?” Aurora asked her nanny.

“Of course.” Diamond crouched down beside Mikhail. Aurora embraced both her father and nanny at the same time.

“Thank you for loving each other. You just made me the happiest child in the world. I love the both of you.”

“I love you too.” They said in sync.

“This is so beautiful to watch,” Paige whispered as her boyfriend wrapped his arms around her waist.

“It is.” Marcello and Evelyn concurred.

★FIVE YEARS LATER★

“Tidy the kitchen, Daria. We don’t have all day.” Layla stated.

“Yes, ma.” Daria answered.

There was a knock on the door.

“I will get it.” Diego offered and went to open the door. “Oh, Felix.”

“Hello,” They did the men hug and Felix entered the house while Diego closed the door behind them. “How have things been?”

“Amazing. Layla misses you so much. How can you miss our baby’s naming and here you are coming over to see us five years later?”

“I’m so sorry. I was so busy with Harold at Las Vegas.” He apologized. “Where are Layla and my beautiful niece?”

As if on cue, Layla stepped out of the kitchen.

“Felix!” She squealed and rushed to embrace him. “You finally came, huh?”

“I’m sorry for missing your naming.”

She waved him off. “You are here now so that’s fine. How are Harold, Rosa, Lexi, and Jerry?”

“They are all fine. Oh, Rosalie and Jeremiah are getting married tomorrow.”

“What? Really? I’m so happy for them.”

“Yeah. Me too.”

“So,” Layla wiggled her brows. “How is Lexi?”

Felix blus-hed, smiling. “She is fine. She should have been here with me but she had something to take care of.”

“I understand. Do you want to see your niece?”

“Of course, yes.” He turned to look at Diego. “I won. I told you it was going to be a girl.”

Diego chuckled and they all went upstairs.

Felix and Lexi started dating two months ago. And their relationship has been the best thing that has ever happened to Felix. He loves her and the feeling is reciprocated.

He got his happy ending after all.

•••••

“Do you have to go?” Zara pouted.

“Yeah. I need to pick up my life and start up afresh. I’m sorry.” Aria mumbled.

“Nonsense. You don’t have to apologize. I wish you the best, darling.” Diamond said.

She would have left long before now but she stayed back because of her friends who had a lot of celebrations like birthdays, weddings, naming ceremonies, and so on going on. But she can’t keep procrastinating, she needs to leave Las Vegas so she can have her happy ever after.

Aria smiled, “Thank you.”

“Come here, give me a hug.” Zara wrapped her arms around Aria and they embraced.

“Me too.” Diamond whined and joined the warm hug, giggling.

“I’ve got to go, girls.” Aria said as they pulled apart.

“Okay.”

She grabbed her suitcase and started heading to the stairs but stopped and turned back to the girls.

“We shall meet again.”

“We shall!”

She smiled and then walked away.

“She will be fine, right?” Zara asked her best friend who stood beside her.

“Of course, she will. You worry too much. Come on, let’s go.”

They both left the airport.

••••

Sean and Zara got married three years ago after everything that had happened to their friend, Diamond. Ayden and Lake weren’t married but they are still together. Marcello and Paige left Ca-ssano’s home to start up a family. Boaz was still living life as a bachelor. Evelyn and Rocco started hanging out more lately -everyone is expecting something more from them. Rhodes didn’t get married again. He focused more on his business and only daughter.

As for Mikhail and Diamond, they were happily married after getting permission from ‘late Diamond Ca-ssano’ The family was blessed with a baby boy named Mateo who is four months ago old now.

Life’s journey has been steady for them. Yes, they quarrel sometimes but that was a part of life. It is a normal process of love and understanding.

Back to the present, the family was having a picnic at the back of the house. Mikhail cradled his son in his large arms while Diamond dishes out food for everyone alongside Aurora who is now eleven years old.

“So uhm,” Aurora cleared her throat. “I uhm, I invited my boyfriend to join us.”

Mikhail’s eyes wide-ned. “Boyfriend? Wait, you have a boyfriend?”

“Yes. Mom knows about him.”

He snapped his gaze to Diamond.

“You knew?”

“Uh, yeah.”

“And you didn’t tell me? Isn’t she too young to have a boyfriend?”

“Young? What are you saying? I started dating at the age of nine, duh.” Diamond rolled her eyes.

Mikhail’s face dropped. “What?”

“You are my role model, mom.” Aurora said and the two ladies high-fived each other.

“This is crazy. No boy is coming here and that’s final.” He said sternly.

“What? Mom, talk to your husband.” Aurora whined.

“Mikhail, we are going to have her boyfriend over and that’s final.” She said.

“No, we_” Mikhail’s voice trailed off when he noticed his wife’s ha-rd glare. He gulped nothing.

She smiled sweetly. “What were you saying, baby?”

“Your boyfriend can come over.” He mumbled.

“Good boy.” She faced her daughter. “You heard your father. Your boyfriend can come over. We are happy to host him.”

“I will be right back,” Aurora said and left the yard, going inside the house with a wide grin on her face.

“You are spoiling this girl,” Mikhail stated.

“You are always ha-rd on her. What’s so wrong with her having a boyfriend? I heard you started dating at the age of seven.”

“It’s a different story.” He claimed.

“How different is it, huh?”

They held each other’s gazes, as a comfortable silent fell between them until Mikhail spoke again.

“You are looking more beautiful…” He smirked.

Diamond blus-hed.

“I love you, Tesoro.”

“I love you more, my Italian king.”

This wasn’t the ending she had imagined. But it was what she got. And there is nothing else she was praying for other than a long life with her family and everlasting happiness.

THE END.
