MORNING

Ca-ssANO’S MANSION

“Amore?” Mikhail called softly. There was no reply as she was still sound asleep. “Bambina?” (Baby) There still was no reply. “Bellá?” (Beautiful). Her li-ps twitch but she quickly compose herself. That didn’t go unnoticed by Mikhail. He decided to play along. “torta al miele?” (Honey pie). She remained quiet. Mikhail cleared his throat, sitting upright. “Fine, you can sleep all you want…i don’t care anymore.”

“Papá?” (Daddy). She called out in a muffled voice, pretending to just be waking up from sleep.

Mikhail grinned at that. “Sí, princessa?”

“Can I just stay back home for today?” She peeled her eyes opened, giving him her best puppy look.

Mikhail almost fell for it. “No. That won’t work on me. Today is Monday, you can’t skip school and besides, this wasn’t the reaction I expected from you.”

“I love school, papá.”

“I know, which is why I’m surprised that you don’t want to go to school. Is anyone buying you or something?”

“Of course not…” She shook her head, sitting upright as well. “They wouldn’t dare. I just…” She shrugged lightly. “I don’t feel like going.”

“Is there an a-ssignment you forgot to do and you are afraid of getting scolded by your teacher?”

“Dad, I’m smart. a-ssignment are definitely not my problem.”

“Then you are going to school.” He said, coming up to his feet.

“Dad…” She whined, pouting.

“Go and have your bath, princessá.” He instructed, turning a deaf ear to her whining.

“Fine. But don’t regret this later on.” She huffed and left the bedroom.

Mikhail shook his head at his silliness.

She always want to get whatever she wants…not like he cares though. He was
willing and ready to do whatever she wants but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t let her go to school because that’s what she wants.

Mikhail took off the black singlet he was wearing and went into the bathroom.

******

“Are you ready for school?” Evelyn questioned, walking into this child’s bedroom.

“Almost…” Aurora stared at her reflection in the mirror and then smiled. “I’m done. How do I look?” She spun around.

“Stunning.”

They both went downstairs.

“Now that I don’t have a nanny, who’s going to take me to school?” The child asked Evelyn.

“I_”

“I will.” Mikhail said from behind, interrupting Evelyn.

Aurora turned around to look at him, grinning widely.

“You will?”

“I will do anything for my princess unless you don’t want me to…”

“Of course I do.”

Mikhail crouched down to her level and she hu-gged him.

“Thank you, daddy.”

“Eishh, don’t thank me. It’s my duty and responsibilities.” He stood up to his full height and faced Evelyn who had her head lowered. “Is breakfast ready?”

“Ye…yes sir.” She answered.

“And her lunchbox?”

“It is ready, boss.”

“Okay. Princess?”

“Yes daddy?”

“Let’s go and have breakfast, hmm?”

“Okay!”

DINNER ROOM**

Aurora took a large bite of toast bread and mo-aned at the wonderful taste.

Mikhail was just staring at her, happiness and love clouded his eyes.

“You aren’t eating.” She pointed out the obvious, frowning at him.

“I’m not hungry.”

The frown on her face de-epened. “I’ve never really seen you eat. Why is that?”

“I don’t know what you are talking about.” He feigned cluelessness. “Hurry up with your food.”

“Sure.” She took a sip of hot tea and dropped the still filled cup of tea on the table. “I’m full.”

“You didn’t really eat anything.” He stated.

“I’m not really hungry.” She answered.

“You bar-ely touched your food. You only ate one toast of bread, princess.”

She shrugged, jumping down from the chair and then said,

“I don’t know what you are talking about.” She left the dinning room, leaving her schoolbag and lunchbox for Mikhail to bring along.

Mikhail stared after his child in bewilderment.

•••••

“Be careful.” Mikhail said.

Aurora jumped into her father’s car and slammed the door shut.

Mikhail rounded the car and was about to enter when his phone started ringing.

He pulled out the phone and answered the phone call.

“Sí?” (Yes).

“So dov’è, Capo.” (I know where he is, boss). The hacker’s voice filled the other line.

“Fernandez?”

“Sí, Capo. Ma c’e qualcosa che deri vedere.” (Yes boss. But there is something you need to see.)

“Non puoi dire di cosa si tratta al telefono?” (You can’t say what it is over the phone?)

“No.”

“Bene. Saro mitra pochi minuti.” (Fine. I will be there in a few minute). He hung up the call.

Aurora looked at her father and saw the frown on his face.

“Daddy, are you okay?” She asked.

“Yeah. Of course. But uhm, honey.” He cleared his throat. “I’m sorry but I won’t be able to take you to school.”

“Really? Why?” She frowned.

“Daddy have something very important to take care of. But don’t worry, I will make it up to you, I promise.”

She opened the car and alighted.

“Who is going to take me to school then?” She queried.

“Evelyn and Ricco will.” He replied.

“Hmm. Okay.”

“Are you mad at daddy?”

“To be honest, I am. But you’ve promised to make it up to me so, I will try not to remain mad at you after you make it up to me.”

Mikhail laughed softly. “Okay then. I will keep that in mind.” He ki-ssed her on both cheeks. “See you after school?”

She nodded. “Yeah.”

RHODES’S MANSION★MEXICO**

“How did it go?” Elodie asked.

“It was fine. But you know you should have come with me, right?”

She rolled her eyes. “That child isn’t crippled.”

“She have a life over there, honey.”

“And me? I don’t have a life here? Is that what you are trying to say?”

Rhodes sighed. “That isn’t what I meant and you know it.”

“Whatever. Listen, I’m not concern about her or what her life is over there. I just want to know about the wedding. When is it taking place?”

“Really? She is your_”

“Can you just answer my question?” She cut him off rudely.

“Well, they plan on taking things slow.” He answered.

“What!? What does that even mean?”

“Exactly what you heard.” Rhodes simply stated.

“They must be kidding me. I’m sure it’s Diamond that put Felix up to this. That girl has no regard for anybody.” Elodie huffed.

“If that’s true then she takes after you.” Rhodes muttered under his breath, looking away.

Elodie frowned. “What did you say?”

Rhodes stared at her and smiled sheepishly. “Nothing.” He stood up to his feet and strolled towards his dearest wife and then wrapped his arms around her wai-st. “Whatever decision they make, honey. Let’s support them, okay?”

“But the wedding… I’ve told my friends and they are all anticipating on it. Diamond must not let me down.”

“Hey. Diamond loves Felix, I’m sure of it. All she needs is time and money…”

“Ugh, but you have money. All she simply needs to do is come down here and take over the family’s business. How ha-rd can that be?” She gro-aned. “But of course, the stupid child always want to have things her way.”

“My daughter is not stupid. And if the family business isn’t what she wants, I really don’t mind.”

“You should take a look at your age before you talk, Rhodes. You are getting old and apparently, your only heir is Diamond. What’s going to happen to our business when we both kick the bucket?”

Rhodes unwrapped his arms around her wai-st and took a step back.

“You worry unnecessarily.” He commented.

“Okay, that’s insulting.” Elodie remarked.

Rhodes let out a light breath before walking towards the stairs.

BFF’S APARTMENT

Zara ascended the stairs, scrolling throu-ghher phone.

“Leaving for work?” Diamond suddenly asked from the living room.

“Yup.” Zara answered, popping the letter ‘P’

“I see.”

Zara looked up from her phone to her friend’s face. “You are not yet dressed.”

“I know.”

“Why? I thought you want to go for a job hunt this morning?”

“Change of plans. I’m leaving by noon.”

“Wow. Why am I not surprised?”

“Because you know me too well.”

Zara looked around. “Where’s…Ayden?”

“He couldn’t get enough of Lake’s di-ck so he decided to stay back for the night. I’m sure he will be back home before noon today.”

“Alright then. I’m off to work.”

“Yeah. I already pointed that out.”

“See ya!” Zara waved and walked out of the house.

Diamond inhaled and exhaled, leaning back into the couch as she continued reading one of her favorite story ‘DARKLIGHT ACADEMY’

FELIX HOUSE**

“So wait, you lied to her dad that you are both engaged?” Harold, Felix closed friend asked.

“Don’t give me that look.” Felix muttered.

“That’s sick, man. Do I need to remind you that you both broke up because of your stupidity?”

“Stop it.”

“Stop what? Telling you the truth?” Harold ruffled his hair. “I can’t promise you that, bro.”

“Listen, I did what I know is best.”

“Lying isn’t what is best. You cheated on that poor girl and yet you do this again?”

“Stop making me feel like the bad guy here.”

“You should feel like the bad guy because truth be told, you are the bad guy here.”

“Are you judging me? You should be on my side, man. You should be happy that I’m engaged.”

“I should be happy?” Harold scoffed. “You are really funny and at the same time boring.” Harold stood up. “I really hope Diamond will tell her parents the truth about your lies.”

“Sorry to burst your bubble, she went on with the lie.”

“She did what?”

“It shock you, right?”

Harold ran the tip of his tongue over his dried li-ps, moisturizing it.

“I don’t know what to say to you, honestly. Sometimes I wonder why I’m still friends with you.” Harold turned to leave.

“Where are you going?” Felix asked.

“I’m out of here, man.”

“Really?” Harold ignored him as he walked out throu-ghthe front door, shutting it closed behind him. “Ugh.” Felix gro-aned inaudibly, ruffling his hair.

NOON**

Diamond got ready for the job hunt.

She stared at her reflection in the mirror, spinning back and forth until she was convinced that she was okay for a job interview.

She grabbed her CV and kept them in her bag then left the house afterwards.

HOURS LATER

Ca-ssANO’S MANSION

“You should rest, ma’am.” A maid whose name was Mary, said to Evelyn who have been coughing none stop for the past one hour.

“I will after returning home with Aurora.” Evelyn forced the words out.

“But you don’t look well.” Mary pointed out the obvious.

“That’s not enough excuse not to pick Aurora up from school.” She started coughing over again.

“You know what, I will pick her up.” Mary offered.

“You will?”

“Yes. You should rest.”

Evelyn shook her head. “No. Don’t worry, Mary. I will_” She coughed again.

“I will pick Miss Aurora up from school. She must be waiting.” Mary hurriedly left the room, leaving no room for argument.

Evelyn let out a de-ep breath as she laid on the bed and started coughing.

*****

Diamond stepped out of a restaurant, looking stressed and annoyed.

She glanced back at the place, giving it a ha-rd glare.

This was the sixth place she has gone to look for a job but every one of them turned her down for one reason or the other.

Diamond ran her fingers over her hair, sighing in defeat when she bumped into somebody.

“F*ck.” She cursed, staggering back a little.

“I’m sorry.” A young girl apologized.

Diamond stared at the child then rolled her eyes, looking up at the sky.

“You’ve tormented me enough in one day. I’m still f*cking jobless after going to sic different places! As if that is not enough, you have to send a child to my way. Really? Like seriously?”

The girl stared at her in silence.

Diamond looked down at the child. She was wearing a uniform which means she was just returning from school.

“Just get out of my way.” She pushed the girl aside and walked past her, taking out her ringing phone. “Hello?”

“Hey babe. Where are_”

Ayden’s voice was cut off by people screaming behind Diamond, yelling at a child to get out of the way.

Diamond slowly put her phone down, not hanging up the call. She turned around and saw the child she had just pushed aside, standing in the middle of the road, staring at a moving van, coming at her way.

Before Diamond could even stop herself or think otherwise, she jumped into the road and grabbed the child and then threw herself with the child to the walkway.

Diamond crashed on the ground, spraining her left ankle and also injured her right hand wrist in the process.

People who had gathered around, heaved out de-ep breaths of reliefs and they all continued going to their different directions.

Diamond gro-aned in pain as the child lifted herself from her body.

“Are you okay?” The child asked, worriedly.

“AURORA!” A voice yelled and ran towards them. “Oh my God, are you okay?” It was Mary alongside Ricco.

“I….she’s not okay.” Aurora said, exhausted.

Ricco looked down at Diamond.

“Do you need help?” He asked.

“No.” Diamond said sharply, forcing herself up to stand on one foot. Her ankle ache badly. “This is why I should never get involve with kids.” She stated, loud enough for Ricco, Aurora and Mary to hear.

She readjusted her bag and held her phone tightly but unfortunately, the screen was damaged.

“F*ck.” She cursed and turned around, limping away from them.

Aurora stared after Diamond’s retreating figure as a smile made a way to her face.

“I like her.” She murmured and then fell unconscious. Ricco was fast enough to catch her in his arms before she could reach the ha-rd ground.
