Linda has informed me about the convulsions before she went into Jayden’s hospital room.
The first one started yesterday morning at around four a.m. I can see Sarah eyeing my stomach with curiosity but she dares not ask about it.
And I really hope she doesn’t. She treated me poorly last time I was here.
“So, how long are you?” She asks looking ahead but I don’t answer. I look down at my phone and continue my texts with Shawn. I really am changing.
“Is that my grandchild Candice Martins?” She calls me by my birth names making me still and try to fight the urge to look up.
“I know so much about you. Don’t think that I’ll just sit and see my son destroy his life because of some woman.” Sarah says and I turn to her with a sm-irk.
“That’s the problem Mrs Williams.” I start and I can see her eyes locked to mine. She has these beautiful brown eyes but one can see the sadness and void in it.
She looks tired. “You don’t have to love me for me to be with your son. You can take it easy, Jayden and I are just lovers.”
I say and she narrows her eyes and opens her mouth to retort something but Linda gets out of Jayden’s room in a rush. Well, as fast as her pregnant self can move. I think she’s due any day now.
“Jada. Jay’s calling for you. He’s awake.” She says breathlessly and I stand as fast as I can.
When I’m on my feet I turn to Sarah with a sm-irk and wink at her before walking to Jayden’s door. When I’m in, I forget about the confrontation with Sarah as I see Jayden’s pale blue eyes looking around.
“Jayden.” I breath out and I start walking to him. I should call the doctor. I nee-d to be @$$ured that he’s fine. “Let me call doctor Han.” I say my voice low almost a whisper as I turn. But he stops me.
“Linda said she’ll do that.” He says in a raspy voice and a tear falls as I’m still looking away. I wipe it fast then turn to him with a smile.
“Ohh.” I say walking towards his bed. “You’re awake.” I say dumbly as the image of him convulsing strikes my head.
“And you’re so pregnant.” He tries to joke but he looks so tired. I let out a small chuckle as I nod. “Linda is too.
Funny how two of the most important people in my life are pregnant. What are the odds?” He tries making another joke but I don’t react.
I only look at him and study his tired face.
“Excuse me. I nee-d to check up on Mr Williams.” Doctor Han says and I move to the side giving him space.
“Don’t leave.” Jayden says and I move to a place he can see me and give a small smile.
‘I won’t.’ I mouth at him.
The doctor tells us that Jayden is showing signs of improvement and the tiredness is common since he just woke up. He then leaves us alone and I see Jayden trying to keep his eyes open.
“Sleep. I won’t leave.” I say and he nods then yawns. “Your head will be better when you wake up.” I say and he smiles.
“I think I nee-d to be shot quite often if I get to wake up to this treatment. It’s like I don’t know you anymore.” He says but shuts his eyes in pain then Gr0-ns.
“Sleep Jayden. Dr Han said you nee-d rest for your head to feel better.” I say sternly and only hums.
“Stop, mothering me.” He says in a whisper, his eyes shut I find myself smiling when I realize I’m doing just that. I sit on the chair that was next to the bed and watch Jayden.
He was shot because he wanted to save Ryan. He promised me that he’d do that and he did. How am I supposed to prepay that?
I couldn’t get to Ryan but somehow I knew Jayden would.
I nee-d to buy the flowers Ryan told me to. I rele-ase his hand but he stirs muttering something close to my name and I suddenly smile.
Oh, My God! What’s happening to me? Pregnancy hormones when I had Ryan weren’t this intense.
I stand and suddenly bend to his level but when I realize what I am going to do, I stand straight. God, this is getting too much.
I start walking to the door and open it then shut it slowly trying not to disrupt him and start taking in long breaths and releasing then slowly until Sarah’s voice snaps me out of my thoughts.
I look around to find Sarah, Linda and a man I’ve seen in pictures with Jayden. Must be his best friend, Dylan.
I know they saw everything throu-ghthe gl@$$ window but how I’m affected makes it somehow embarr@$$ing. ‘This is not me. It’s the hormones.’ I chant inside my head.
‘Jada is not an emotional teenager who goes around blus-hing near every guy she finds attra-ctive. I’m a strong independent woman.’ I continue chanting inside my head. I clear my throat looking at them.
“He’s asleep. I’m going to get something.” I say and p@$$ not waiting for any answer.
“I’ll come with you.”
A manly voice says and I look at him. “I’m Dylan. Used to play with Jayden.” He introduces himself and I nod.
“Jada.” Is all I say and start walking.
“You’re too fast for a pregnant woman.” He tries making a polite joke and I stop before I start walking at a slower pace.
“That good enough for you Mr Harris?” I ask and he raises eyebrows in surprise.
“You know my second name?” He comments more than asks. “Impressive.”
He sm-irks.
“You are a famous NBA player and also always around Jayden.”
I say it as a matter of fact and he playfully scofs. But I knew about him when I was on Leo’s case. Had to know everyone around the Williams.
“So where are we going?” He asks.
“Florist.” He scoffs.
“Jayden hates that shit. Says something about them being too girly.” He says and I laugh.
“More reason to buy. My son recommended them.” I say and he lets out a sm-irk.
“The little guy listened to me.” He says proudly making me eye him.
“Are we talking about the same kid?” I ask and he laughs.
“Yeah. We talked when he called Jay and he was in the bathroom.”
He says as we take the last turn to the florist. It slightly worries me that Ryan keeps things from me. I’m suddenly
insecure but I try to smile and laugh along making Dylan look at me questionably. Am I that easy to read these days? I’m losing my tough woman touch?
“That bunch of white roses.” I say when I immediately sp-ot them. I look for something more colorful. “And arrange another bunch of sunflowers please. Separately.”
The lady gives me a cheerful smile and goes to the back. I take out the cash and hand it over to her as Dylan takes the flowers and carries them.
We p@$$ throu-ghthe hotel cafeteria and buy some coffee for us and walk back as I carry them. Dylan tries making small talks and I try to answer most of them.
“Jada, Jayden’s awake. He’s asking for you.” Sarah says as ru-bs her forehead.
“I think you should both go home.
You can come back tomorrow morning. I won’t leave his side.” I @$$ure Sarah and Linda for some time until they give in.
Dylan gets in and talks to Jayden for a few minutes before leaving with Jayden’s family and I get in with the flowers and half cu-p of coffee.
“Surprise.” I say with a grin as I get in but Jayden only looks at me with wide eyes.

“Jayden. I nee-d to tell you something.” I start talking about an hour later of watching some crappy late night show that I didn’t even un-derstand what it is about.
He doesn’t respond making me look at him.
He’s asleep.
I sigh and turn down the volume then stand and cover him well before sitting on the chair that I had previously insisted on sitting on.
I decide to switch off the television after a while and look down at my phone. It’s a little past one a.m. I miss Ryan so much.
Jayden and I had talked to him hours ago but I still want him here.
I look at Jayden’s peaceful face sleeping and sigh. I want us to talk about the baby but he nee-ds to sleep and rest.
It’s like a heavy truth that I nee-d to spit it out so that I can feel free. But it seems that I’ll have to wait till in the morning.
I stand and walk to the couch at the corner of the hospital room and lie down and try getting some sleep.
I’ve never thought about starting a family after Ashton, my parents and siblings died.
I had always known since then that I’ll always be alone until I adopted Ryan who coincidentally, was my real son.
Now I have another baby on the way and a man that I truly care for.
A man that I shouted to everyone in this hospital room that I love. Do I even?
Or was I just panicked or been in a ‘caught in the moment’ sort of thing.
I suddenly let out a sigh and stand. I can’t put my mind to rest when I have all these thoughts. The room is dimly lit and so I can see clearly.
I see Jayden flinch even though he’s asleep making me cautious. Is it a nightmare? Pain maybe? I ask myself but I see him opening his eyes before flinching in pain.
“What’s wrong Jayden?” I ask suddenly panicked. I try to reach for the emergency bu-tton but I don’t see it.
I search for it and I find it on the opposite side and press on it without any thought.
“My head hurts.” He Gr0-ns then hisses in pain. He brings his palms to his head as I place the back of my hand checking his temperature to find him burning.
“Doctor. Someone.” I run to the door and call already impatient but I’m met with a female doctor, Dr Diaz.
“He’s in pain. Help him.” I say following her into the room and she takes out some medicine and injects into his bloodstream.
“I’ve given him a strong painkiller. It should help him tonight and administer another one in the morning.
The fever should go down too. I’ll be back in thirty minutes to check on him.” Dr Diaz says as I listen keenly.
‘He’ll be fine.’ I tell myself as the doctor leaves. I walk to Jayden’s side to find him with a pained expression covering his face.
“Better?” I ask softly.
“Sorta.” He answers in pain and I place my hand on his head. He’s sweating but I know that he will be fine. I just have to stay positive and help him.
“Do you want me to do anything?” I ask my face near his. “Damn, you really nee-d to shower. You reek of sweat.” I add trying to joke and he lets out a tired smile.
“I wouldn’t mind if it’s you doing the deed.” He says his voice low before slightly flinching and I bend further and kizz his sweaty forehead.
“Get better then I’ll do whatever you want.” I promise jokingly and he slightly sm-irks before yawning.
“Go back to sleep baby. I’ll be here.” I say and his almost closed eyes open suddenly fully awake.
“Do painkillers cause hallucinations too? Cause I thought I heard ‘baby’ from your mouth to my ears.” He says and I smile though I can oddly feel heat on my face.
“Getting shot was definitely worth it.” He says and I leave a lingering kizz on his forehead.
“Sleep now BABY.” I say intentionally and he smiles as he shuts his eyes.
“I fu-ck ing love you.” He says before drifting off to sleep as I am left standing beside him smiling wi-dely as if I’m a teenage girl who’s been confessed to by her crush.
And I don’t care about that. I too deserve to have a happy life. I’ve been throu-ghshit and maybe this is that time that my mother was talking about.

Jayden being here was definitely not pa-rt of the plan but he was meant to be here, next to me.

I wake up to find myself lying on a horizontal position. Something opposite to how I drifted off yesterday or today at two.
“You’re awake.” Jayden says next to me and my eyes suddenly land on his plump li-ps.
“My eyes are up here honey.” He says making me look up but my eyes go back to his li-ps and he l-icks them slowly.
“How did I get on here?” I ask now my eyes on his and he smiles. He looks better today. “How are you feeling?” I ask before he answers.
“Better actually. I have you and our child next to me.” He says making me still in his arms. “Unless…” He trails off and I shut my eyes then let out a breathe.
“We’re having a baby. I’ve wanted to tell you ever since I revealed to you about my pregnancy but I couldn’t get the right time to tell you about it.”
I say suddenly emotional but Jayden smiles.
“I think I just got better when I heard that.” He says with a smile before someone knocks on the door.
I try getting up but Jayden tugs on my hand making me stay. “Linda.” Jayden says with a small smile and I try getting up again. It’s getting awkward.
“Good to see you Jayjay and you too future siz.” Linda says cheerfully and I let out an awkward cough next to Jayden making him let out a laugh. I’m really not used to public affection.
It seems so weird to me. And ‘future siz’? What the hell?
“Stop enjoying this di-ck head.” I hiss but he doesn’t stop shaking with laughter. “I could hurt your head then and you’ll soon be shaking in pain letting out screams.”
He suddenly stops and I sm-irk. “Now let me go.” He Gr0-ns and releases my hand enabling me to sit up and get off the bed. “Now, was that so ha-rd?” I mock and Linda laughs.
“You guys are just the cutest.” Linda says with a smile and I roll my eyes as Jayden smiles. “Especially with the serial killer warning talks. Is that like a turn on for you…”
“I’ll leave you guys to talk.” I say suddenly not ready to hear anything else and both Linda and Jayden disagree simultaneously.
I walk to the couch in the room’s corner and sit on it then take my phone that I had left to charge. I scroll throu-ghmy contacts and call Shawn’s number. It’s Saturday, Ryan wakes up at around eight to nine.
“Hey, Shawn.” I ask but I’m greeted by a sleepy Shawn. Shawn forbade anyone from interrupting his sleep and that’s when I knew that I fu***ked up. Shit!
“Yeah, I know that Ryan has a phone…” I try explaining but he shouts making me cringe before ending the call to find Jayden and Linda looking at me amused.
Isn’t this such a great morning?
