EPISODE 35
THE GILBERT RESIDENT
King hu-gged Camila till she became calm, he held her by the shoulder and walked her back to the car…. he helped her to seat in the car, he locked the door and went to the driver seat to sit down.
KING
Are you okay?
CAMILA
I’m fine
(she said looking outside the window)
KING
look at me
CAMILA
are you still going to yell at me to achieve that? because I’m not looking
KING
common Camila, I said I’m sorry for yelling at you…. your phone rang and you refuse answering itz I knew it wasn’t your sister calling… but just wondered why you didn’t want to pick the call in front of me
CAMILA
take me out of here please.
King didn’t say anymore word, he started his car and drove away….. they got to Anna’s place and he parked his car.
KING
is this your sister’s house? this is where my Google map stopped.
CAMILA
this is my sister’s house… goodnight
she said and tried to come down from the car but king grabbed her arm, making her to turn to face him.
KING
Camila I don’t want you going in there, looking like this … I already apologize for what I did.
CAMILA
I’m not angry, goodnight
Camila came down from his car and went to her sister’s gate to knock… the gate man opened up for her, Anna already told him her sister was coming.
King waited for Camila to enter the gate before he drove away.
“why are you getting jealous that someone else is calling her”
“No I’m not, why should I be jealous? I’m only trying to protect her”
“protect her from what? from who? wait as who? who are you to her that you feel you nee-d to protect her”?
“whatever man, all I know is that you fuc-ked up big time by yelling at her”
he argued with himself as he drove back to his empty house
Weekend came to an end and he expected Camila to come back but Camila didn’t go back to work…. after all Alex was not around to send her away so she could stay as long as she wanted.
Monday came to an end, king came back from work and Camila wasn’t back yet, he missed her but he wasn’t going to call her….she only asked for the weekend and she’s extending it without calling him go ask for his permission… it means she doesn’t care about them anymore so he wouldn’t border her.
Anna came downstairs to meet her sister watching a movie alone, she wondered if Jordan was still in his room.
ANNA
what movie are you watching?
(she said from behind her)
CAMILA
oh my God you startled me
ANNA
(she giggled)
I’m sorry, you don’t even look like someone who’s mind is on the movie she’s seeing… what’s wrong darling??
CAMILA
I’m fine, I just have a lot of things on my mind
ANNA
alot of things like what? I have watched you since on Friday that you came, you look different, yo don’t seem happy… you know you can always talk to me?
CAMILA
I said I’m fine…. what else do you want me to say?
(she snapped)
ANNA
oh wow, I’m sorry for bothering you, I just thought I should ask what’s wrong because we are sisters and we never hide anything from each other.
She said and got up to go leave since her presence wasn’t appreciated.
CAMILA
I think I’m in love with him
(she said suddenly)
ANNA
(She stopped to look at her sister)
in love with who?
CAMILA
king… my boss.
ANNA
oh my poor little sister, is that why you have been so sad? falling in love is a good thing… so why beat yourself over it?
CAMILA
you don’t get it, this love is one sided, I have feelings for king but he doesn’t love me… at first he treated me like a queen, he treated me like no one else has ever done and in that moment I fell for him.
ANNA
how are you sure he doesn’t feel the same way for you?
CAMILA
He has been acting weird since last week, he had completely changed towards me….I don’t know what I did wrong, I tried to ask him what I did but his never giving me a listening ear….it hurt so much Anna, I feel like my heart is going to explode.
(she said crying)
Anna felt pity for her sister, she wish there was something she could do to help her sister but this was beyond her.. love isn’t something you for-ce on people…. look at her, she’s in a marriage where she’s the only one doing the loving while her husband is busy sleeping with another woman…. she doesn’t want the same thing for her sister.
ANNA
so what are you going to do now?
CAMILA
I’m not going back to that house, seeing him everyday and not being able to laugh with him, joke with him, cud-dle him makes it very difficult for me to breathe…. I’m going to stay here for a few days, clear my head before going back to the village.. or you can ask anuty Rose to help me secure another job.
ANNA
that won’t be a problem, but you know you haven’t told him you are quiting… it would be so bad if you just leave like that…. I think the best thing which is also the right thing to do, you go back to his house and pack your stuffs… tell him that you dont want to work again…. leave there on a clean ground.
CAMILA
I don’t want to face him, at least not now.
ANNA
its okay, whenever you are ready… it’s just so sad that we are never lucky with anything…. right from birth, things hadn’t gone well for us, now that we are grown ups we are still unlucky.
CAMILA
but you have someone that loves you
ANNA
(she giggles)
you are trying to be funny, ain’t you? who loves me? is it Alex that has gone for more than a week now and that has not called me to know if I’m dead or alive or who?
CAMILA
Jordan loves you… I didn’t nee-d to use my powers on him before I realized it… but to be more sure, I went into his head…. his not like his brother.
ANNA
(She blus-hed)
what’s bad is bad, even though his not like Alex, it still doesn’t change the fact that his Alex’s brother…. which makes it very wrong.
CAMILA
I equally know you feel something for him too, but you are scared of what people will say, you are scared of how disappointed mum and dad would be…. but Anna, you should know whatever we do, our happiness matters too…this life has taken everything away from us, the only thing we have to ourselves is our happiness, that we can’t let anyone steal from us…. forget about what people will say and make yourself happy, for once do something you really want and not what the world require of you, do something that makes you happy, not what makes your family happy … mum and dad are of age, and as much as we hate to admit it, they will die some day and it would be the two of us in this word, suffering the consequences of the bad choice we had to make.
Camila said her mind and left the living room, leaving her sister all alone to reflect on what she has just told him

On Thursday king could no longer take the silent, he was tired of waiting but he was proving stubborn…. Jasmine was just a kid but she could tell her father wasn’t himself.
JASMINE
I told you it’s fine by me if you like Camila, some promises are meant to be broken…. you should go to her dad.
KING
I’m not going…. she asked for just weekend, today is Thursday and she isn’t back… what does that tell you? that she doesn’t want us.
JASMINE
that’s not true dad, you totally turn that lady off, I’m a kid, but I’m not blind… Camila did everything to make you talk to her, but you shut her out daddy.
KING
I’m not having this conversation with you Jasmine, go to your room….i will like to be left alone.
Jasmine didn’t say anything, she just got up and started to walk to the stairs, as she was on her way going, she heard a knock on the door, so she went back to check who was knocking….. she was surprised when she saw Camila at the door, she hu-gged her.
CAMILA
How are you?
JASMINE
I’m fine, we miss you.
CAMILA
I miss you too, you went to school today?
JASMINE
yes, I went…. come inside…. dad is inside.
CAMILA
thanks
She said and entered the house, Jasmine immediately went into her room.
CAMILA
good evening sir
KING
good evening, how are you?
CAMILA
I’m fine….. how are you?
KING
I’m fine.
CAMILA
alright
She turn and started to head to her room, she was going to pack her things before she would tell him she didn’t want to work again… her taxi was waiting for her outside.
she went to her room and started to pack her stuffs, king came into her room without knocking.
KING
what are you doing?
he asked but Camila ignored him, she continued to arrange her clothes inside her bag…. king asked her again yet no answer so he pulled her by the hand, dragging her to face him.
CAMILA
I’m leaving, I don’t want to work here anymore.
KING
what? you don’t want to work here anymore? what is your reason?
CAMILA
Nothing, you said I nee-d to tell you a month before I resign but I can’t wait…. if you want to arrest me, you can go ahead….but I quit.
KING
I just don’t get it Camila, you left this house since on Friday, you were supposed to come back on Sunday but you are here today, today being Thursday and you want to just quit? common I deserve to know why.
CAMILA
what difference would my why make? if I tell you the reason why I’m leaving what are you going to do?
KING
goddamn it, just tell me what the hell I have done wrong
(he yelled)
CAMILA
don’t yell at me okay, what do you want me to say? huh? what I’m I doing in a place where I’m not longer welcomed? “henceforth I’m going to treat you in a way you have never been treated before”? was that not what you said? well you were right, you have treated me like no one had ever treated me….you know why? because I have never let my guard down, because I have never allow my heart to trust any man,
(her tears dropped)
I have never given my heart to anyone to get hurt…. you said promise to treat me better thank I have experience, but you ended up lying to me…. you made me believe everything you said, you made me fall….
(she paused and inhale)
As she spoke her tears dropped uncontrollably, king was heart broken too, he didn’t mean to hurt her, not like this, not after all she has done for him and his daughter… his just scared, his scared that someone else might separate him from his daughter.
CAMILA
you made me to fall in love with you, only for you to start giving me cold….
king pulled her closer and gave her a ki-ss, he ki-ssed her for about two minutes before Camila pulled away from king
CAMILA
what did you do that for? I don’t want you to pity me….
king grabbed her hand and place on his che-st
KING
go into my head and confirm if that ki-ss was from a man who pity you, or from a man who is equally in love with you.
CAMILA
What are you saying?
KING
I love you Camila, I know I acted like a je-rk but that was because I was scared, I was scared that you didn’t love me too, I was scared of another woman coming into our lives to hurt us just like my first wife did… Jasmine and I have been throu-ghalot, we don’t want to be there anymore, we don’t want to experience such pain ever again… that’s why I tried to swallow my feelings.
He held her both cheeks and stare de-eply into her eyes.
KING
I love you Camila, you have no idea how much I love you.
Camila started to cry loudly, she tried to seat on the floor but king grabbed her quickly before she could reach the ground.
CAMILA
I was scared, I thought it was one sided, I thought I was the only one loving you.
(she cried more)
king pulled her into a ti-ght and warm hu-g, reas-suring her that he loves her too.
The gate man came knocking at the door, jasmine who had been behind the door listening to everything that has been going on ran downstairs to check who want to come and out as-sun-der.
JASMINE
yes, what do you want
GATE MAN
Where is Camila?
JASMINE
she’s in her room, why are you looking for her?
GATE MAN
the taxi man she brou-ght is outside rendering curses on her… his angry that Camila has wasted too much of his time.
JASMINE
How much is his money? Camila is not going anymore
GATE MAN
(Confuse)
going where?
JASMINE
how much is his money?
(she repeated herself)
GATE MAN
I don’t know….
JASMINE
it doesn’t matter, wait here, I will get his money for you.
Jasmine went into her room, opened her bag and brou-ght out her purse, she counted twenty thousand and ran downstairs to give to the gate man
JAMMINE
this is his money, go and give to him…. and apologize unhalf of Camila.
She said and ran back inside.
Camila suddenly remembered that she left a taxi man outside, so she pulled from king’s hu-g and told him.
CAMILA
a taxi is waiting for me outside
JASMINE
I already settled him.
(she answered from outside)
King and Camila looked at each other surprised, they went outside to meet her…. immediately she hu-gged the both of them.
JASMINE
thanks for forgiving my father, daddy thank you for giving me another mummy.
King didn’t know what to say again, he knelt down and hu-gged his daughter ti-ghtly…. Camila knelt down and joined in the hu-g too.
soon Jasmine pulled from the hu-g, bid them goodnight and went into her room to sleep.
While king carried Camila bridal style and took her to his own room….. she was no longer going to stay in her room.
