Danica
I walked out of the room, my hand over my shoulder and found grandma sitting on the bench, her head bent downwards.
She was quiet and probably didn’t notice my pres£nce until I went to sit next to her. Then, she lifted her head to look at me.
“Is it done?” She asked calmly and I nodded.
“The doctor’s done with me” I added.
Mum, Bitna and her parents were still there.
“Danica…” She sighed and held my hand.
“I know you must be so mad at me, at everyone. But the truth is, I never wanted to hurt your feelings. I never wanted to make you go throu-gh any of these…”
“Granny plea-se, it’s okay” I cut in calmly.
“I don’t blame you for anything. I mean…you didn’t do anything wrong”.
I withdrew my hands from hers and stared down at the floor, then whispered:
“If there’s anyone to be blamed here, it’s mum”.
There was a short silence.
“I don’t know what I ever did to that woman to make her hate me this much. If all these is true, then it means she’d actually taken me away from my biological parents just to make me suffer. She had taken me away from my parents and treated me like an animal. I un-derstand if she’s having issues with ma’am Maya, but did she really have to involve me? I was just a kid.
“Frankly speaking, I don’t think I can ever forgive her for this”.
Grandma’s head was bent in her contrition and I could tell she was probably ashamed having someone like Kim for a daughter.
“I’m really sorry, Danica, for everything you had to pas-s throu-gh in the hands of Kim. I wish there was something I could do to….”
Her words got interrupted when mum walked out of ward, her face looking so swollen like one who wanted to eat a frog.
She paused and stared at grandma and I, then walked away without saying a word.
A wind of silence went after her.
“Granny” I turned to grandma and called.
“I don’t want you to feel bad towards any of these, because I dont regret it either. If this hadn’t happened, I probably wouldn’t had known you; grown up with you. You’re the best thing that’s happened to me, granny and I dont regret it at all.
Tearsfilled her eyes immediately.
“Oh Danica! I can’t believe this!” She exhaled and pu-ll-ed me into a ti-ght hvg.
“I love you so much, dear. And I never wanted to lose you. That was the reason I wanted to take you out of the city when you get discharged. I didn’t want to lose you, Danica” she wept on my shoulders, squee-zing me ti-ght.

“I love you too, granny” i whispered.
Shortly, more footsteps were heard and when I had a look, it was Bitna and her parents.
Grandmand I dis£ngaged from the hvg immediately.
Bitna’s eyes were swollen, enough evidence she’d been crying for a long time. She glared at me before walking away.
But her parents stayed back.
“Danica…” Mrs Maya called softly.
“The….The doctor said the results would be out in two days time. So, we’re to wait till then”
I just bent my head and nodded, not saying a word.
“Don’t you think you should come stay with us for the meantime? You know, you shouldn’t be…”
“I’m sorry ma’am, but I can’t” I replied sharply. “I’m…. I’m okay staying with the prince for now – at least z untill the results are out”.
“Are you sure about that?” She asked and I nodded.
“Okay then. I really can’t wait for the results either. And….to be frank, I hope all these is true and you’re truly my daughter, because Kim doesn’t deserve someone like you”.
I looked at her and feigned a smile.
Just then, her phone started ringing and she brou-ght it out from her bag.
“Susan?
Yes, I remember.
It has to wait, Susan, plea-se. I can’t come over right now.
Goodness! Okay, fine. I’ll try” she ended the call with a sad expression and di-pped the phone bdck into her bag.
“I really have to go now. There’s an emergency. I’ll come see you, okay?” She spoke hurriedly.
“Okay ma’am. Thanks”. I replied with a smile.
She t©uçhed my shoulders and scurried off.
“Goodbye, Dan” Mr Williams also said and left.
“Danica” grandma called immediately.
“I really don’t like the idea of you staying with the prince. plea-se dear, come over to the house with me, at least for the meantime”.
“I…I can’t even think of it, granny. I can’t think of facing mum, or looking at her – not after what’s happened”. I shook my head.
“Oh!Danica…”
“Don’t worry about me, granny. I’ll be fine, plea-se. The prince is a nice person. And besides, it’s only going to be for a couple of days. You nee-d to un-derstand me”.
She sighed and leaned backwards.
“Of course, I do. Of course, I do” she mumbled.
“It’s just….” She paused and sighed again.
“Just be careful around him, Danica”.
“Of course, I will”.
She smiled and stood up.
“Come on. I’ll see you off so you can get a cab” she stretched out her hand to me and I placed mine on it.
“Thank you, granny” I smiled and we started walking together.
Thinking about it…
I’ll be alone with the prince for two more days.

Later in the day……..
Bitna walked into the hospital, having some big glas-ses over her eyes.
She went straight to the doctor’s office and luckily, found him there.
“Good day, doctor” she greeted as she kept her bag on the table and took a seat
“Good day..miss” The doctor was staring keenly at her.
He couldn’t recognize her, but not until she took off her glas-ses.
“Bitna!” He called surprised.
“Wow! I wasn’t expecting you. What’re you doing here?”
“I’m here to see you, doctor – on something very important”.
She looked really angry and sober.
“Okay…. I’m listening” the doctor leaned forward, wondering what she could possibly have to say.
She let a few seconds of silence pas-s before speaking out.
“Ask for anything, doctor – anything at all. I want you to change the results of the DNA test”.

Bitna
I watched the doctor’s face anxiously, wishing I could re-ad throu-gh his kind n know what he was thinking. Well, either ways, I nee-ded an answer from him and he shouldn’t think of rejecting me.
“Miss Bitna…” He called and brou-ght his stethoscope down from his n£¢k.
“I don’t un-derstand… what you’re doing talking about, dear. Why…Why would you want me to change the results?”
“Because it isn’t right, doctor!” I hit my hands lightly on the table.
“All this isn’t right. It shouldn’t be happening. So, in here , doctor, to put a st©p it to it. And I nee-d your help. plea-se…”
He scoffed and t©uçhed his nape.
“plea-se doctor” I continued.
“You can ask for anything at all. Money? Jewellries? I’m…I’m re-ady to do any of it. But plea-se…help me. I nee-d those results changed.

Danica
I returned home – Prince Nathan’s home – but couldn’t find him at home. The house was almost quiet.
Where did he go?
I went to the room first and showered, then changed into something simple and after which, I la-id on the be-d to rest.
Even in my light sleep, I still felt disturbe-d and could ba-rely enjoy it.
*************
I had woken up hours later feeling weak. G©sh! What’s wrong with me?
I t©uçhed my head and it was feeling really h0t. Oh! plea-se, don’t tell me I’m falling sick. plea-se, plea-se.
I left the be-d and walked round the house, seems the prince was still not back.
Maybe…. I should make him some food before he returns.
I went into the kitchen and took a look at what they had. Wow! It was stuck with as-sorted stuff. I wonder why he keeps all these when he rarely stays here.
Deciding on a stew, I took out the ingredients I wanted and started working on it.
Minutes later..
One of the securities at the gate found his way to me in the kitchen.
“Sorry to interrupt you, ma’am. But there’s someone looking for you at the gate. A guy” he reported and I arched my brows.
A guy? Who could probably be looking for me over here?
“Who’s he?” I asked, concerned.
“He said his name is Scott”.

Princess Mabel
I returned home from school and searched for mum all over.
“Where’s my mother?” I asked a maid I had seen.
“She’s in the other room, princess” the maid bowed and I quic-kly left, going to the room.
The other room.
There were guards on the door post when I arrived and they opened the door for me and gave me pas-sage – of course.
I went in and found mother, sitting on father’s be-d where he sle-pt.
“Mum” I called with relief and she turned to spare me a stare.
Her eyes looked worried, her hand resting on father’s forehead.
“Mabel…you’re home” she said fraily.
She was looking really worried.
“Y…Yes mother. I’ve been looking for you”.
I stared at father who was slee-ping. His face was becoming white and pale. His condition had indeed, gone beyond worst.
“Is there a problem?” Mother asked and I took my eyes away from father.
“Um…not really. How’s father doing?” I asked.
“Take a look for yourself, Mabel. He’s growing worst. We’re losing him” she said whisperingly.
“The um…the boys working un-derground for you, hasn’t there been any feedback from them?”
“Not yet. They’re still ma-king research. But we’re running out of time, Mabel”
G©sh.
I sighed and went to sit on the little space left on the be-d.
“I’m sorry, mother. I…. I hope everything would be fine soon” I said forlornly and she muttered something I couldn’t hear.
Just then, the door opened and Princess Odeya and her mother walked in.
Yeah, cra-p.
“What’re you doing here?” The queen growled, actually ma-king me surprised.
“Are you here to kill him the same way you almost killed my son??”
What the…
“What’re you talking about, Na…”
“Don even call my name!” She rasped, cutting mum off.
“My name shouldn’t be called on the ton-gues of traitors”.
“And who’s the traitor?” I scoffed and stood up. “You don’t just come in here and point f!ngersat my mum. I won’t take that”.
“Watch your ton-gue, Mabel. I wouldn’t want to cut it out for you” Deya cut in.
“Enough!” Mum suddenly said and stood up.
“Come on, Mabel. Your father nee-ds some rest and we shouldn’t stress him out with the pres£nce of these two”
She held my hand and led me out of the room and as we did, I glared ha-rd at Deya. I’m definitely going to put her in her place.

Danica
Scott?
Hold on…Scott? Scott’s looking for me???
I don’t un-derstand. Why the hell would he come here???
I was bewildered. Has his insanity taken him to this extent?
I dropped the knife I was holding and followed the guard out of the room. Goodness! I couldn’t wait to l@ymy hands on him – I swear.
We got downstairs, out to the gate and I really found him there – in the company of the other guards.
So, it’s true then? He’s really here?
My hands ti-ghtned beside me as I walked closer to him, and his eyes beamed.
I couldn’t talk with him in the pres£nce of the guards. So, I moved away, and he followed.
“Danica….” He called as soon as we were far from the guards and immediately, I turned and sl@pped him.
“How dare you, Scott?” I rasped. “how dare you come over here? Have you finally lost it??”
His hand went over his cheek. Then he sighed and brou-ght it down.
“I’ve been looking for you” his voice was a low growl.
“I nee-d….to discuss something important with you”.
“Whatever it is, Scott, if it doesn’t have to do with you leaving me alone, then forget it!” I snapped and turned to walk away, but he pu-ll-ed me back by the wrist.
“The mark on your w@!st” he said. “How did you get it?”
I looked at him in surprise. Huh?
“What mark are you talking about?” I asked.
“You know what I’m talking about, Danica. The mark on your w@!st. How did you get it?” His face was so ha-rd and his tone serious.
Hold on…
Is he talking about the number 12 on my w@!st?
But how did he…..
Oh my! But why’s it important to him? It’s just a mark.
“Talk to me, Danica” he shook my hand and I flin-ched.
Just then, I saw the gates opening and taking a look, I saw Nathan’s car driving in.
