EPISODE 51

Jake made all the necessary preparations at the hospital. He was hell bent on carrying out his plan to the fullest. He had called the medical director of the hospital and as the hospital’s biggest benefactor everything was made ready in a short period of time, everything except a trusted medical doctor. He had tried reaching their family doctor but he was informed that the man was in surgery and would only be done in two hours. That was too long, Jake couldn’t wait that long, he had to look for another alternative and fortunately, he remembered Lair.

He had seen him work there and as Jade’s friend he believed he could trust him. Jake told all about what had happened and also about the possible attack on his grandfather and his plan to capture whoever it was, because that was very crucial in his plan to exp-ose Hillary. Jake also told him about the drug he had been given and Lair was surprised. He couldn’t believe someone would be that cruel to do that to an old man. He had seen cases of people with bulimia (A serious eating disorder marked by bingeing, followed by methods to avoid weight gain) using the drug to induce vomiting but he wondered why someone would give that to an old man. That person was cruel, he thought to himself.

“How long has he been sick?” Lair asked over the phone.

“Over two years” Jake replied.

“And for this period of time it wasn’t noticed that has been consuming these drug?” Lair asked again.

“No”

“That was strange” Lair thought out loud. He looked at the grumpy old man who was lying on a bed by his side after retching his guts out, with how frail and thin from the way he was retching he could tell something was wrong with him. So was it possible for two whole years nobody suspected anything like him consuming a drug like ipecac.

Jake who had heard his comments asked, “How do you mean it’s strange?”

Lair looked at the man’s vitals displaying on the monitors and also at the man.

“I have to confirm a few things, I’ll call you back.” Lair said before hanging up making Jake to furrow his brows. What was wrong? He asked himself.

Lair turned to grandfather and smilingly said, “Grandfather I know things are a bit ha-rd for you right now but can you answer a few of my questions?”

Grandfather pouted his li-ps and gave a full look, “I’ll answer you just because you look nice and only if you promised me no nee-dles.” Grandfather Beau tried to negotiate. He hated the idea of coming to the hospital, but that wicked grandson of his bullied and threatened him into going there. How he hated nee-dles. Even at his old age he was petrified by them.

Lair was amused by his attitude, “I can only promise you no multiple nee-dles. I’ll set up a line and that should serve all the purpose of administering drugs to you.” Lair politely replied, but grandfather Beau wasn’t satisfied. He didn’t even want half a nee-dle or one but he knew he had to compromise lest Jake’s comes here and make his life a living hell.

“Fine.” He gruffed making Lair smile.

“Have you been taking any anti-emetic drug?” Lair asked while the old man nodded.

“Doctor Thomas prescribed it to me, and I’ve been taking them regularly.”

“But does it help?” Lair asked again.

“Sometimes it does, but other times it doesn’t but he’d ask me to increase the dose or he’d change it to something better.” Lair nodded his head in un-derstanding when he heard what the old man said.

Lair asked him a few questions before the old man started puking again. Lair took a sample of it as well as his urine for some laboratory an-alysis.

Lair was certain something was amidst and he could smell foul play. Conditions caused by intake of certain drugs are not resolved until those drugs are discontinued. Those secondary conditions can be treated while the patient are placed on a less harmful regimen to treat the un-derlying disease. So Lair knew that there was no way the old man’s health would have improved or remained stationary without the cause of the problem being detected.

A persistent and unimproving case like this would have raised brows and whoever his physician was, he/she must have carried out series of test on him and if they did his urine should have a persistent level ipecac alkaloids and certain levels of ipecac metabolites (emetine/cephaeline) should have been detected in his vomit.

Soon the result of the test came out and Lair was shocked to see the results. He had two questions on his mind.

One, how the hell was the old man still alive and two, how does this kind of result go unnoticed?

Lair called Jake and informed about his findings.

“So what are you trying to say?” Jake asked. He was sure he un-derstood what Lair was trying to say but he didn’t want to accept it.

“You Know what I’m trying to say. Whoever is trying to kill your grandfather has someone working for him here. That’s the only way such a thing could have played out for this long.” Lair said.

Jake was horrified to hear what Lair had just said and it made a lot of sense to him. So Hillary had someone working for her at the hospital? How was that even possible? She planted someone in their home and also in the hospital?
That woman was a demon!
But the problem is who was this person?

Jake now un-derstood what she meant by he was going to die at the hospital. She had someone there.

Jake couldn’t help but burst out a round of cynical laughter. “That evil bitc-h. She’s really a demoness.” He couldn’t believe she’d go as far as planting people around him.

“What do we do now?” Lair asked, he was now very much interested in this case.

“We wait.” Jake replied. He was sure Hillary was going to use whoever she has planted at the hospital. Whoever that person was he/she wasn’t going to get away from him, not on this life.

Hillary and all her cohorts were all going to perish.

Pondering about who the suspect might be was all Jake could do in the last hour. He had a suspect in mind but he didn’t want to believe it was true. He’d was going to kill him if it was true.

While Jake was waiting for Lair’s call he also made preparations for Hillary’s end. He knew she was going to come and all he had to do was wait, and Hillary didn’t disappoint as she soon arrived at the compound.

She was dressed in black skin-ti-ght pa-nt, and a black shirt, she had detective gloves on.

‘How Clever’ Jake who was watching from the tabloid in his hand praised in his head as she strolled into the mansion like she owned it. She wasn’t been discreet at all. Just how much confidence does she have?

And why was she wearing all black

Jake waited for her to make her grand entrance. This was going to be fun? He said to himself.

Hillary gallantly walked into the sitting room, she didn’t have much fear maybe it was because it was the butler who had given her the information. She took a quick look around the living room when she was sure there was really no one in the house like the butler had mentioned, she made her way to grandfather Beau’s bedroom.

She made her way to the bed and pulled out the drawer at the foot of the bed. When she saw a file in it, her eyes lit up and she smiled. She brou-ght it and quickly opened it, but her smile froze when she saw it was empty apart from a small note that was stuck it.

It had a smiling emoji drawn on it.

“Looking for this?” Hillary stiffened when she heard that voice. She was so stunned that the empty file in her hand fell to the floor.

Hillary didn’t nee-d anyone to tell her what was going on. She stood fixated to the ground, as she ground her teeth.

How was he there? And why did that fool tell her the house was empty?.

Jake had a grin etched on his face as he waited for her to turn around and face him, and slowly she did.

She gulped when she saw what was in his hand, and Jake couldn’t help but chuckle when he saw her horrified expression. He looked at his hand and waved the gun at her, “Don’t worry, I won’t kill you with it, because I’m not going to kill you at all.” He smiled at her.

Hillary was speechless as she stood before him. Her eyes fell on the other thing that looked like what she was looking for and Jake noticed it too. She narrowed her eyes when she noticed it was a bit moist and he was holding it with the tip of his finger.

“Yeah, I know. You want this right?” Jake raised a brow at her but she didn’t reply but her eyes gave her away.

When Jake met with her silent response he shrugged, “Well if you want, you can come have it. Since this is the reason why you’re bent on killing us, then just take it.” He said with a serious and empathetic tone while Hillary looked at him sceptically. She knew he didn’t mean that, he was probably trying to lure her but she wasn’t going to fall for his silly prank. But she second-guessed that thought when Jake threw the file on the floor just a few inches away from her feet. “You can have it and get out of our lives.” He said.

Hillary intently gazed at him as she tried to ascertain his motive but his face was stoic, giving nothing.

“Take it.” He urged her as he casually shrugged his shoulder like he accepted defeat.

Hillary stayed her gave on him for some seconds before looking at the file on the floor. But why does it seem w£t? Did this bastard soak it in water?

Hillary took a step towards the file she crouched down to pick it up, but just at that moment a lighter fell on the file and it caught up in flames. She was shocked by what had happened, she staggered backwards almost falling on her bu-tt but she was quick enough to stabilize herself, her eyes grew when she saw the docu-ment in flame.

“Oops, I’m sorry.” Jake chuckled amusedly.

“You bastard!” She roared as she tried to rush over to the file and rescue it from being completely burnt but the flame was too much. It must have been soaked in gasoline for a while.

Hillary stood to her feet and stared at Jake with murderous eyes, “I’m going to kill you.”

Jake’s eyes turned red when he heard her, anger flashing throu-ghhis eyes, “And I’m going to do more than that before I send you to jail or a mental asylum where you truly belonged. For all the pain you caused my family, for every doing, for my dad’s death, for my grandfather, for all the stress you put me throu-gh, I’m going to make you pay,” Jake growled but Hillary was unfazed about his threats.

“And how do you think you’re going to do that boy?” Hillary taunted but Jake revealed a smile which made her slightly nervous but she comports herself. She didn’t think it would be that easy to exp-ose her. She had covered all loose ends and she hoped Black get to the butler at the hospital before Jake does. That bastard was going to meet his end. What an incompetent fool!

“Well, we can start with this.” He said before whipping a phone out of his pocket and he played the recorded call for her. Hillary was bewildered when she heard that familiar voice. It was hers. That was her conversation with that stupid man. Jake was there? He was the one behind this? This was all his plot?

Her wide-ned eyes and stunned expression made Jake chuckle. “You don’t have to be that surprised. I still have one more gift for you.” He told her and immediately Marcus men dragged a horrifically tortured body to the door.

“B…bo..ss” The man called out faintly. Jake’s smile broadened when he saw the look on Hillary’s face. He shook his head and tsked, “I’m sorry Hillary, but this is game over.” He declared.

Hillary raised her eyes and looked at him blazingly, “Not until I say so. Before I die or go to jail, I’ll send your brother and grandfather to hell!” She snarled.

Hillary wasn’t expecting any of her plans to go south today, she was sure she’d succeed in killing the old Beau as well as Blake. With the old man gone she’d be able to get her hands on that lawyer and get the will because Jake would be too distraught to look after him or the company.

When the butler told her about the will, all her muscles started twitching excitedly so much she couldn’t think about anything else other than laying her hands on it. She couldn’t believe that the will would be lying around while she had looked for it for such a long time. She had searched for it in that very house. Several times she had invaded the house with the help of the butler to search for it but all to no avail.

On several occasions, she had wanted to kill the old man in sheer frustration but she has always been able to refrain from doing such because she knew she had to be careful, constructive and meticulous in all her plans. Abruptly murdering the old man might raise some dust and brows, and she might be investigated. She didn’t think it would make sense to go to jail after finally acquiring what she had been yearning for, for years.

Ah, the things she had done for power and wealth. Over a decade she had been patient, she had been calculative but now all her efforts were about to go to waste?

No! she won’t allow it.

She wasn’t going to go down just like that, and most importantly it can’t be Jake who takes her down. If she must be exp-osed she’ll take everyone in his household to their doom before a hand is laid on her.

What riled her up was the carelessness which she had exhibited today. She was infuriated with herself. How did she not think that this could all be a trap? How could she have fallen de-eply for this shit? She looked at the badly wounded man on the floor and all that went throu-ghher mind was plunging a knife into his heart so his miserable life would end for good.

When she heard Jake speak those words, “Its game over Hillary.” She felt a surge of anger shoot throu-ghher veins. She wanted to kill him on the sp-ot as well.

She raised her eyes and looked at him blazingly, “Not until I say so. Before I die or go to jail, I’ll send your brother and grandfather to hell!” She snarled.

Jake scoffed when he heard her, but then his looks changed when he saw the look in her eyes. He knew this woman well. He looked at her challengingly, his Br@in was sending him warning alarms in his head. He had a feeling Blake was in danger. He narrowed his eyes at Hillary and asked, “What did you do to my brother?” Jake asked with a murderous tone but Hillary casually scoffed not minding how fierce he looked. Her attitude made Jake more livid. His heart was pounding so ha-rd against his che-st, anger and hatred were coursing throu-ghhis veins.

“You’ll just have to wait and see.” Hillary cackled crazily. Jake had just burnt her dreams in front of her, the only thing she had worked for all her life, so it was only natural that she pays him back in his coin.

“Hillary!” Jake growled he was slowly losing his sanity. Jake was about to close in on her when his phone started to ring. His heart skid when he saw it was Blake’s shadow guard who was calling.

He hastily picked up the call, “Where is my brother?” Jake hurriedly demanded.

“Boss”

“What is it?” Jake roared into the phone his eyes staring at Hillary who had a sm-irk on her face. She was confident it was bad news for Jake.

“Boss there’s been an explosion.” The man reported from the other side of the phone.

“What explosion?” Jake hesitantly asked.

“A car explosion sir. Your brother’s car has just exploded on the highway.”
